Why does Airbook sometimes restart itself after shutting down?

My MacBook Air sometimes restarts itself after I shut it down. At first I thought I was carelessly choosing the wrong command, but now I'm clear -- it's the Airbook.  Also -- I had thought this was unrelated, but now I'm not so sure -- it's been forgetting to start up automatically some mornings.  And yesterday at 3:19 pm it informed me that it was getting ready to shut down, "as instructed" (the actual instruction in the Energy Saver is for midnight).

Sounds like a Broken Drive...
Most of the times this will be solved with a HardDrive Replacement
although,
you could try this
Restart your Mac and hold down the Command key and the R key (Command-R).
Keep holding these keys until the Apple icon appears.
This indicates that your Mac is starting up.
After the Recovery System is finished starting up,
you should see a desktop with an OS X menu bar and a "Mac OS X Utilities" window.
After you do this, select Disk Utility and run it.
On the next screen,
Select the hard drive in the left hand column,
the First Aid tab on the top, and click on Reparid Disk. (bottom left)
When that is done, click on Repair Permissions.
When that is done, quit Disk Utility and restart.

why does my Iomega and WD keep shutting down?

Was gonna reply "cause they are unremitting pieces of crap" (got two Iomega NAS boxes out for repairs as we speak), but I'll bite anyway....
Care to provide more information as to what troubles you? The description you have provided isn't exactly rich in details, don't you think? And my telepathic thinking cap is also out of order at the time....

  • Why does my 2009 27" imac keep shutting down?

why does my 2009 27" imac keep shutting down?

Could, also, be failing hard drive , power supply or logic board.
You may have to make an appointment and take your iMac in to Apple or Apple authorized repair center for diagnostics and a repair estimate.
If your iMac has a 1 TB internal hard drive, it maybe a Seagate drive and maybe eligible for free replacement under the Apple Seagate 1 TB internal hard drive replacement program.
If you can get your iMac running, you need to backup all of your data ASAP!. Either backup to optical disc, flash drive/s or purchase an external hard drive for backup. You can use a data cloning program such as CarbonCopyCloner or SuperDuper to make an exact copy of your iMac's internal hard drive.
You can check for eligibility for free hard drive replacement by inputting your iMac's serial number here.

  • Why does my MBP 13" 2012 screen shuts down by itself?

The screen of my MBP 13" shuts down by itself, more and more often. It does not happen in a specific situation, and the laptop continues running and receiving inputs. In order to reactivate the screen I have to open and close it several times, or press the power button.
The screen turns completely back and the led outside start blinking like when I close the laptop.
The MBP is new, bought in summer 2012 and does not have any other program installed than the standard ones. I have no idea why this happens but it is occurring more and more.
    Do you have any idea?

You are still under warranty.  Call Apple Care. Make sure you get a case number as all repairs have an additional 90 days of warranty.
#1 - You have 14 days from the date of purchase to return your computer with no questions asked.
#2 - You have 90 days of FREE phone tech support.
#3 - You have the standard one year Apple warranty.
#4 - If you've purchased an AppleCare Protection Plan, your warranty last for 3 years.   You can obtain AppleCare anytime up to the first year of the purchase of your computer.
Take FULL advantage of your warranty.  Posting on a message board should be done as a last resort and if you are out of warranty or Apple Care has expired.

  • Why Does My Computer Restart Itself Randomly?

Everytime i surf the web, my macbook just restarts itself randomly for some reason. What is happening to my macbook?

If you have more than one user account, you must be logged in as an administrator to carry out these instructions.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Select the most recent panic log under the heading System Diagnostic Reports on the left. If you don't see that heading, select
View ▹ Show Log List   from the menu bar. Post the entire contents of the panic report — the text, please, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header and body of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don't post shutdownStall, spin, or hang reports.

  • Why does my iPad email app keep shutting down?

I just purchased my iPad 2 3G last week, so I am a new iPad/Apple user.  I really like the product and now wonder why I have stayed loyal to the Windows PC for so long.  I'm still looking for some of those useful PC keys and keystroke shortcuts that I am so accustomed to, but I am adapting.
My iPad mail app keeps shutting down on me, whether I am typing a message or just reviewing/managing my mail.  I use a bluetooth keyboard, so it is not a matter of me bumping the touch screen that is causing the app to close.
I have lost a lot of important business emails while composing them and eventually stopped using my iPad to compose email.
Is there a setting controlling this or is it a program glitch?
    Thanks.

    Pam-
It could be that the battery charge indicator is showing 100 percent when you actually have almost no charge left.  In case that is the problem, leave your iPad connected to its wall charger overnight, and see if that helps.
One other thing to try, is to reset (reboot) your iPad.  Hold both the Home and Sleep buttons for several seconds until the Apple logo appears.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" arrow.  The iPad will restart after a couple of minutes.  Resetting this way will not hurt anything, and sometimes solves mysterious problems.

  • My PowerMac G3 300MHz 512MB restarted automatically after shut down

The only way to turn off my G3 now is to switch off the mains. The problem still persists after clean install of the OS to 10.2.8. Also the shut-down key on top right hand corner of the keyboard no longer works. Is there a bug hidden somewhere in my desktop?

I'm thinking some hardware is causing this, do you have any PCI cards or USB/Firewire devices connected?

I have an LACIE 500G external hard drive connected to my iMAC via USB which has recently (a couple of weeks) started to shut down by itself. This does not happen when I use it on a PC. What's the problem and how can I solve it?

  • Why does my WD2GO Pro app keep shutting down when I'm trying to access a file?

Ive invested in a WD My Book Live 2TB network hard drive and the associated WD2GO Pro app for the ipad.
This is great for tiny files (1-2mb) but anything over 20mb make the app shut down.
Why is the ipad shutting down?  Cant it show a PDF over a certain size?
I know I can open it in other programmes (PDF by corporate smalltalk) but WD2GO provides the facility to create a URL link to the hard drive, thus allowing me to email this link to clients / printers etc.
The silly thing is that if Im really quick I can send the link but if Im longer than about 4 seconds the app shuts down.
    Frustrating isnt the word!
Hope someone somewhere out there has an idea.  Just please dont say that the new Ipad solves this problem as Ill be (forced) into upgrading lol

Open a Finder window. Select your Home folder in the Sidebar on the left then open the Library folder then the Caches folder then the com.apple.safari folder. Move the Cache.db file (might say ApplicationCache.db) to the Trash.
Try Safari. If it crashes again, follow the instructions for uninstalling then reinstalling Flash >  Troubleshoot Flash Player | Mac OS
    Restart your Mac Try Safari.

  • Dell Studio 1737 sometimes turn on after shut down

    Hello,
for about a week now, my laptop (Dell Studio 1737) sometimes turns back on all on its own after I shut it down. I can spot no correlation with anything.
I issue "shutdown -hP now", like I always have, wait for it to shut down, plug it out and sometimes after about half a minute or maybe a minute, it turns back on, lid closed. If I wait for it to turn fully on and shut it down again, it is OK. If I don't realize it's on again, it runs till the battery dies and then suspends and resumes when I open the lid.
I don't even know where to look. Any help, please?

I searched those keywords and read through the results but I don't think it's the same problem. My computer doesn't reboot instead of shutting down. It shuts down alright, it goes through the whole procedure like it always has, all lights go out, the humming stops, it looks as dead as can be, so I close the lid and plug it out, and only after half a minute or minute it suddenly turns back on. In fact, what it looks like is as if it was just playing dead for a moment to make me go away so that it can go back to life and run. Funny, I've just finished reading a book about a necromancer

I hope I am placing this in the correct place, as I have had enough difficulty finding where to "Post a Topic" Bought a new MacBook Pro with Leopard on 1/4/08. It fails to shut down, all I get is the spinning wheel (for want of a better word) until I am forced to press the shut off button. To date, In-store tech support has archived and re-installed, re-set the PRAM, and I don't know what's left! It seems that every time I do "something" i.e., backup, download photos, etc., even when I carefully close out the applications, and wait, the machine fails to shut down.
Does anyone out there have a solution to this problem? Is Apple working on this or are they taking the "it's you" attitude? Please advise and many thanks.

The "Genius Bar" at the Apple Store turned off the "Sync" to the iDisk. This has seemed to resolve the issue, however, MacBook Pro is not problem-free. Let me know if we "share" any other issues. Recently attempted to use Adobe Photoelements, by the way, after being told it was compatible with Leopard, IT IS NOT. So now I am going to try Aperture. Just thought I'd throw that in as "one of the other" issues! Thanks for responding to me!

  • Why does my i pad 2 keep shutting down or freezing?

I recieived my i pad 2 3 days ago and it keeps either freezing or shutting down in the middle of something.  Why is this happening? Can I adjust something to stop this?

In addition to KP's advice there are a couple of other basic things to try.
    Quitting open/running/recent apps
Quit apps by double tapping the home button to bring up the multitasking/recents tray at the bottom, hold down on any of the app icons in the tray until all the icons wiggle, then tap the minus sign in the corner to quit/close the apps.
    Then restart the iPad
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button at the top of the iPad until the red slider appears, then slide to the right to power off. Turn the iPad on again by pressing the sleep button until the Apple logo appears. See if this helps.
