Why does all my iPhones music have red dots next to them and won't go away?? HELP!!!!!

When h downloaded music on my iphone 5 four weeks ago, it had red dots next to every song and when I click on them they turn light red then back to red. They have a red circle with a red square in middle, and they won't load! :( They won't even let me delete the song    HELP PLEASE!!!!!!!!

I had this issue on my iphone 4, and two songs listed on the iPhone in iTunes had the dotted circle.  I researched it, and I found a hundred different answers.  Some were complicated like uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes.  All I did was this...  In iTunes under Music, I simply unchecked Sync Music, and I deleted all music from my iPhone.  I then checked Sync Music, chose all the songs I wanted.  No songs in iTunes had dotted circles, and all songs on my iPhone played.

And now that my contract has expired, I have some options.  Last weekend, I called Verizon again threatening to leave.  The representative offered the same $75 rebate that was offered to me 6 months earlier.  I even offered up one of my device upgrades in place of a network extender, but that deal was knocked down.  And so now I’m left with the option to make a public spectacle out of this scenario and hope Verizon takes notice.  Failing that, I’ll be forced to leave Verizon behind.
I don't understand. If having service in your home IS important to you and you already know Verizon's policy, why have you not instead started to search for carriers which cover your home? It seems a pretty easy decision to me, at least.

  • HT1751 I successfully captured a recent itunes library, but then all the songs have "!" marks next to them and won't play. I have thousands of songs in multi folders of my external hard drive, surely there is a way to auto locate all songs on my hard driv

My desktop PC recently crashed and I'm trying to recapture all of my iTunes library playlist and songs. I was able to successfully capture the library, however when I tried to play a song, all have the exclamation mark "!" on them and ask that I locate the song. I successfully located some, but there has to be an automatic way to do this, rather than finding each one. I have thousands of songs located in multiple folders of my exteernal hard drive and need a way to find all songs automatically. Can someone help? Thanks!

This "original file cannot be found" thing happens if the file is no longer where iTunes expects to find it. Possible causes are that you or some third party tool has moved, renamed or deleted the file, or that the drive it lives on has had a change of drive letter. It is also possible that iTunes has changed from expecting the files to be in the pre-iTunes 9 layout to post-iTunes 9 layout,or vice-versa, and so is looking in slightly the wrong place.
Select a track with an exclamation mark, use Ctrl-I to get info, then cancel when asked to try to locate the track. Look on the summary tab for the location that iTunes thinks the file should be. Now take a look around your hard drive(s). Hopefully you can locate the track in question. If a section of your library has simply been moved, or a drive letter has changed, it should be possible to reverse the actions.
Alternatively, as long as you can find a location holding the missing files, then you should be able to use my FindTracks script to reconnect them to iTunes .

I have a temp working for me and she scanned all our batches upside down is there a way to flip them and save them without her having to rescan every batch.  We have tried flipping them and doing a save as, we have also tried to flip them and create a new pdf document but nothing seems to be working

If the file type is PDF then open them in Acrobat and rotate them via Tools - Pages - Rotate (not via the View menu, which is only temporary).
You can also do this in an Action, if you have Acrobat Pro, and process multiple files in a single process.

Drag the folders to the external drive, and if prompted, click Authenticate. You'll probably be asked for an administrator password.

  • Library Lost - Please HeIp I tried updating my old ipod & now all 10,000 songs in my library have an ! next to them and I get the error message "song " " could not be used because the original file could not be found" on every song I try to play

Please help - this morning I tried updating one of my old ipods for my wife (this ipod hasn't been updated in 2-3 years).  I plugged it into my pc, it was recognized and the software updated.  I created a new playlist and tied to sync the ipod.  This ipod had never been used on this pc/itunes since the pc is only 2 years old.  When I tried to sync the ipod it stated that it would have to erase all the old songs on the ipod prior to syncing.  I clicked ok and it proceeded to wipe out the old ipod and sync the new playlist (~1000 songs).  When the sync was complete there were only 6 songs from the new playlist (all purchased this morning from itunes) on the ipod and to my horror all ~10,000 song on my pc in itunes now have a ! next to them.  Only my recent purchases from itunes do not.  When I click on a song with the ! I get the error message "the song " " could not be used because the original file could not be found."  How do I correct this issue - I am scared to hook my ipads or other ipods to my pc for fear of losing everything?!?!?  I spent 100s of hours burning the 10,000 songs from my cd collection and do not want to have to do it again.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

  • Why do songs that I just had on my iPhone have a dotted circle next to them and won't sync to my phone?

I recently downloaded about 20 new songs and put them into iTunes. I synced my iPhone with iTunes, but suddenly unchecked songs started syncing to my iPhone and the songs i had downloaded would not. I looked into it and under "on my phone," the songs had dotted circles to the left of them. I restarted the phone, i restarted the computer, and finally i cleared the phone and restored it to the back-up. After restoring it didn't work, I unsynced all of my music from the phone and tried to resync all of the checked songs onto it but ALL of the songs i previously had on the phone have the dotted circle next to them. I am so incredibly frustrated and have no idea why this is happening. Why it 1) downloads unchecked songs, 2) has dotted circles next to all of my songs, and 3) won't sync any music I have checked as they are all now marked with the dotted circles. Please help! How do i fix this?

You can name your iPad anything you want to in Settings>General>About>Name. Maybe you named the first iPad but never named the second one. Maybe the first one was named when you set it up with iTunes and if you didn't set up the second iPad with iTunes or set it up as new - not from a backup, it would not have a name in the settings.
    I think that it's magic.

  • I have just subscibed to itunes match, but seems to have only moved songs that I have purchased from itunes. Those songs have a cloud next to them and some have a cloud with an exclamation mark inserted, when u click on it to play it it now says can't fin

I have just subscribed to icoud match but am having difficulties. It says it has moved all my songs to the cloud but the cloud symbol has seemed to only appear by the songs purchased from the itunes store only, (this is on the desktop where I originally setup my itunes account) and some of the cloud symbols have an exclamation mark in them, so if I attempt to play them now, it says it can't find it!!!. Also, the main purpose of this exercise was to create space on my iphone and ipad............so once I have succesfully uploaded all my songs to the cloud, do I then delete all my songs off my devices to ceate that space or does that happen automatically?

Once you successfully add you iTunes library to iTunes Match, you go to Settings>iTunes & App Store on your iOS device and turn on iTunes Match.  Your iTunes Match library will then appear on your iOS device.

  • All of my music has an ! next to it and dont know what to do

ok so i have 6600 songs in my itunes library. my dad purchased me an external hard drive. i wanted to move all of my itunes music and stuff onto the external hard drive to free up space on the computers hard drive... so i did.. all of it got onto it. and then i deleted everything that i had on the computers hard drive. now about 6400 songs of mine have the exclamation point next to it. i know i can do every song individually and go into the external harddrive and find it on there but that takes way too long for how many songs i have. is there any faster way that i can do this?? if so please tell me because i need help reallly really bad.
    thanks, Benji

Looks like you need to ‘Rebuild’ Your iTunes Library
If you changed your music locations by hand (not allowing iTunes to manage the move), want to remove duplicate song references, or just have confused iTunes too much, these steps will re-initialize your Library for you. Read it completely through and do the small trial run prior to implementing the whole thing. You will lose your Playlists, as well as reset your Ratings, Play Counts and Last Played attributes. If these are important, post back and instructions on saving these (as best as your Library has) can be provided::
First, make sure that iTunes is correctly looking in the right Folder for your song files.
    a) Make sure you know the current location of your music files (best to confirm this)
    i) --- In iTunes choose: Edit==>Preferences==>’Advanced’ tab
ii) --- Select 'Change' and browse to the music folder in your new ExHD drive (if it isn’t already)
iii) --- Click OK to save that setting
    b) In iTunes: Edit==>Preferences==>’Advanced’ tab.
    i) --- Make sure that the 'Keep iTunes Music folder organized’ box is checked (if you want iTunes to organize your folder structure)
ii) --- Also, that the ‘Copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to library’ box is unchecked
iii) --- Click ’OK’ to accept and close the Preferences dialogue box.
    c) Single click on the "Library" in the Source Pane
    d) Single click first track in the Library
    e) Select all songs (any one of several ways)
    f) Delete – or select ‘Clear’ (yes, delete them all)
There will be 2 dialog boxes that pop up (one at a time). The first one asks ‘Are you sure you want to remove the selected items from the list?’ The second asks if you want the files moved to Recycle Bin or to keep them in the iTunes folder. You DO NOT want to send the files to the Recycle Bin, so select ‘Keep Files’. This will only delete the song reference links (both valid and broken). It will not delete the actual music files on your hard drive.
Also note: 'Deleting and Restoring' the song references will reset the Play Count, Ratings, Date Added, Last Played, Ratings, and EQ attributes (there may be a few others). It will remove all song references from any Static Playlists you have. Also, any Smart Playlists that depend on any of the aforementioned attributes will be impacted. This may be a small price to pay to recover your Library -- or not.... You can ‘Export’ your Playlists to an XML file for ‘Importing’ after the refresh. This can restore your static playlists. The export only saves the song info, not the underlying music files. Of course, exporting your playlists is to be done before you delete any song references within iTunes.
Once your song references are removed from iTunes, this is how to get them back:
1 - In iTunes: File==>”Add Folder to Library”
2 - Browse to your main iTunes folder on the ExHD and select it
    3 - For multiple music file locations, repeat 1 & 2 (optional)
Depending on how small/large your music library is, the speed of your computer, and your amount of RAM, this could take a few minutes to a few hours.
Your library should now be back to ‘normal’, but without most metadata (platlists, playcounts, ratings, etc.).
    Best of Luck

  • Many of my songs have a "!" next to them and it says the song could not be used bc original file could not be found, what am I doing wrong?

    Help

Your iTunes may have lost track of your music file location, you may find many of the songs in Itunes music library to precede with an ! symbol.
Do you know where is the location of the original music file?
If so, double click a song with ! mark on side, you will be given an option to locate the file where the song is held. Select "locate" and direct it to your folder / file where the song is and open it.
iTunes then will give you the option to use this process to update all of your library. OK that as this will do it automatically instead of fixing them one by one.

To stop the pop-up, Go to System Preferences: Security. Check the box next to "Require password to unlock each secure system preference." Then lock Security.
