Why does Aperture make D7000 RAW files Dark????????

Okay, i've been through a million different ways - files look GREAT, then you load them into Aperture and they look like sh*t.
And i finally figured out a way to PROVE that Aperture is screwing up my files! Here's what I did:
Transfered original RAW files from my Nikon D7000 to a folder on a hard drive.
1. Photo Mechanic: Loaded a RAW file into photo mechanic, it looked nice - exactly like it looked on my camera screen, did absolute nothing to it, exported it as a JPG. It came out looking NICE! Nice soft colors, lots of subtleties, beautiful. Could be a little sharper, but I wanted to make absolutely NO adjustments - since the test was for overall color and image quality.
2. Aperture: Loaded the exact same original RAW file into Aperture and it looked like crap! DARK, muddy, all the subtletiy is lost. I did Nothing to adjust it, exported it as a high quality JPG - it came out DARK and muddy. Ugly!
***????? So annoying!!! This happens over and over and over again.
It's YOU Aperture! Not me!! Not my files! Not my camera - which i've brought back to get checked countless times to see if something was wrong with the camera.
It's really annoying. You have to fix it! There are countless comments online about this same problem. FIX IT!!!!!!!
If you email me i'll attach the two sample files. I did NOTHING to adjust either of them in either program. This is just the crappy dark garbage that Aperture generates from perfectly beautiful RAW files from Nikon D7000 cameras.
- please respond.

What happens if, as an experiment, you use Adobe DNG Converter to convert one of the D7000's NEFs into a DNG? Same result?

Why does aperture convert my raw files to jpegs when I import them from iPhoto?

    It doesn't.
When you import  Raw to iPhoto the app makes a jpeg preview of the Raw automatically. When you import from iPhoto then Aperture brings over both versions.

  • Why does Aperture duplicate my raw files?

I downloaded the Aperture demo a week and a half ago and started working on some photos which were on my hard drive. There was an enclosing folder with the name NAfricaSahara, and then within that folder 22 folders organized by date. There were about 3200 photos altogether.
Now after working with about half of the raw files in Aperture, I have found that most of the raw files have been duplicated so that they are now loose in the NAfricaSahara folder as well as within the 22 date folders. This includes files I have worked on as well as files I have not worked on. Is this normal behavior for Aperture? I put one of the duplicate files in the trash (the original still was within its original date folder) and it disappeared from the Aperture window.
How do I prevent this from happening? The duplicates are really eating up a lot of my disk space.

No, I haven't copied versions. What I did was import the NAfricaSahara folder into Aperture. It contained subfolders by date of download to my Epson 4000 digital wallet. The subfolders also came into Aperture as Albums.
I then moved some of the photos by selecting them and creating new albums (in cases where I had downloaded to the Epson less than daily) so that there was a album for each day.
What I see in the Finder now are all the original folders I set up along with their contents. But all the individual files are now ALSO in the NAfrica Sahara folder (not in any subfolder), as well as in their original sub-folders.
I don't want all these duplicates, but when I try to trash one, it disappears from Aperture.

  • Does Aperture support NEF RAW files for the Nikon D810?

I am unable to open NEF RAW files for my new Nikon D810.  Are there any updates of suggestions.

Apple has not yet reverse-engineered a RAW update for the d810. I would suggest that you shoot RAW +JPEG with all your NEF images on the CF card and put your JPEG optimal fine images on the SD card in slot 2. Save your NEF images and CF cards until the Aperture 3.5.1 RAW update for the d810 finally is available. In the meantime, you will have JPEG optimal images on your SD cards that you can import and process in Aperture. Good Luck.

  • Why won't Aperture 2 support RAW files imported from Canon 60D when it does from my Olympus DSLR?

Why won't Aperture 2 support RAW files imported from Canon 60D when it does from my Olympus DSLR?

I'm afriad the fact that your Olympus dSLR is supported is no relevance.
The Raw from every model of camera is different. Note: that's every model not every brand. So, the NEF produced by a Nikon D40 is not the same as the NEF produced by a D60, the CR2 produced by a Canon 350 is not the same as the CR2 produced by a Canon 400.
Support for individual camera models has to be added one by one, and Apple will update the OS to work with the most recent version of the software. That's an incentive for you to keep up-to-date. So, for support for your 60D you'll need 10.6.5 plus Aperture 3 and/or iPhoto 11.

Does anyone know when Aperture will support RAW files from the Canon Eos 7D mkii?

Only Apple knows. The never announce upcoming RAW support in advance, sorry. And if anybody knew, it would not be allowed to post this information here.

  • Aperture 2 and Nikon D7000 RAW files. Do I need to upgrade to Aperture 3?

I currently have a Nikon D70 with a Nikon D7000 on its way. I want to know if Aperture 2 will process Nikon D7000 RAW files. I searched Apple support and these discussions. I only could find confirmation that Aperture 3 now handles it. But I have not found anything that confirms that Aperture 2 indeed did NOT get an update to handle the D7000 RAW files.
    Can someone confirm this?
    Thanks.

For future reference, all the cameras listed on the Aperture RAW Support web page that have the double asterisk "**" require Aperture 3.

This is probably a hardware problem as Lr does not write to RAW files.  See this thread.

  • Opening Nikon D7000 raw files in Elements 8

I am unable to open Nikon D7000 NEF files in Elements 8. I have been unsuccessfull in downloading the version 5.7 update from the web site. After downloading several times the files are still not recognized in Elements 8.

I am using Windows 7. I tried selecting the folder that contained the folder holding the pictures to be converted. I then single-clicked the folder holding the pictures and hit select. A message came up stating that the source folder did not contain any supported camera raw files.I have spoken with my Elements software supplier and this is his response:
"I've done some digging and it turns out the Nikon D7000 wasn't supported in elements until the release of version 6.4 Adobe Camera Reader. So to make sure you have the latest ACR update installed. You can check which one you have by going into elements and clicking Help>About Plug-In>Camera Raw. And if it's not 6.7 then Help>Updates will find it and let you install the latest version. You could also try saving your camera files as .RAW instead of .NEF, and then opening them in elements. Adobe lightroom 4 should already have these plugins available right outside the box, but if you can save the money and run updates instead that would work just fine." I have checked for Elements updates for the Camera Raw plug-in and the message appears stating no updates are available. The camer raw plug-in version is currently 6.1.0.250.

What operating system are you using?
The most common cause is pointing the dng converter to the actual files and not just to the folder that the camera raw files are in.
There is an example of how on a windows system in this thread:

  • Elements 11 - why does it not recognize RAW photos from Canon 70D?

Elements 11 - why does it not recognize RAW photos from Canon 70D?

    Hi,
The 70D requires Camera Raw 8.2 which is not compatible with Photoshop Elements 11.
    Your choices are
    1) Upgrade to Photoshop Elements 12
    2) Use the Canon DPP application to convert the CR2 files to TIF files and then import the TIF files into the organizer
    3) Use the free download of the Adobe DNG converter to convert the CR2 file to DNG files and then import the DNG files to the organizer.
Note: if you are running on XP or Vista, you need version 8.3 of the converter - the latest (8.4) will not work.

  • Adobe Lightroom, Photoshop and Bridge does not recognize the raw files from my Canon Mark III 5D Camera.

Adobe Lightroom, Photoshop and Bridge does not recognize the raw files from my new Canon Mark III 5D Camera.  How can I get my files open to view and edit?  I am using LR3, Photoshop CS3 and Bridge CS3.  Do I need to upgrade these programs or is there another way to get these programs to recognize my files?
When I try opening the raw images in Lightroom, the thumbnails say "Preview unavailable for this file"  ... when I click "import" an error message pops up that says "The files are from a camera which is not recognized by the raw format support in Lightroom."
When I try opening the raw images in Photoshop, an error message pops up saying "could not complete your request because photoshop does not recognize this type of file."
When I try opening the raw images in Bridge, it just shows an icon with the file name and CR2.
    Please help!!!

Unless I missed an announcement, today, LR6 isn't available, yet, right?  Only Adobe employees and beta testers would know what LR6 does differently at this point and they're all sworn to secrecy.
LR5 is available as a standalone version.
    PS-CS6 is available as a serial-number-licensed version.
PS-CC + LR5 are also available as a Photography Plan subscription for $10/month with a minimum OS versions of OSX 10.7 (and probably 10.8, soon) and Windows 7.
Bridge is part of PS, not a separate program.
LR5 standalone and LR+PS-CC plan are both available on this page:  http://www.adobe.com/products/catalog/software.html
PS-CS6 can be found on this page:  Creative Suite 6 which can be found by searching www.adobe.com for Photoshop CS6 and clicking the Buy link in the on-the-fly search results.
As with any new Adobe software, it might be wise to run it in trial mode for a few days/weeks to see if it works well with your computer, before purchasing and finding out you might need a new computer, first.
