Why does apple make their iPhone chargers so weak? The wiring always tends to come out within a month of use. I have already changed five chargers within half a year

The charger gives me many problems. It also is very poor at earthing. Hence the body of the iPhone shocks up when I touch it

I still have the original charger that came with my 3GS when I purchased it over 3 yrs ago.  It is in perfect condition.
The only reason someone would go through so many charges in such a short period of time is due to user abuse.  Grasp the connector when plugging/unplugging the device instead of the cable.

  • How does Apple make their videos so good on the website?

They have good quality, they load quickly, But what I am most curious about is the fact that I never have problems watching them full screen.
Technical specifications and tricks would help a lot. What kind of file format is used? Dimensions, encoding, etc.
I'm hoping for a simple answer.

The dimensions are what you see when you download the material. The format is h.264.
They have VERY FAST server farms to stream the stuff.
Apple is a proponent of HTML5 - we'll see where all that goes.
What do you mean by "embeding"?
I'm hoping for a simple answer.
They have a lot of technology at their fingertips and very skilled people to work it - just like the people and firms that turn Hollywood films into DVDs. That's the simple answer and there is nothing really simple about it.

  • HT204053 Why does Apple kick their old subscribers under the bus? I have an iMac G5 2.1 Computer using Leopard 10.5.8 system, and I am no longer able to renew my MobileMe account, Why? Maybe I should look into PC Computers in the future!

Why does Apple kick their old subscribers under the bus? I have an iMac G5 1.9 and 2.1 computer using Leopard 10.5.8 system, and I cannot renew my MobileMe account, why? Is Apple incapable of keeping their old subscriber accounts active and still update their system? Maybe I should look into buying a PC in the future? I eagerly await your reply. Thanks

MobileMe is being terminated in two weeks. If you have files on your iDisk which are not also on your computer you need to be downloading them as soon as possible or you will lose them.
You can migrate to iCloud and set Mail up manually to receive your @me.com mail:
Entering iCloud email settings manually in Snow Leopard or Leopard
You will not be able to sync calendars or contacts. If you want to have general online file storage you will need to find a third-party alternative - this page examines some options:

  • In Address Book, why does Apple let you create custom fields in the Template cards but not have them available for importing?

I open Address Book, go into Preferences, select Template and under the Names field (friend, assistant, father, etc) I add a custom field called "Principal".
I also add two more custom fields in the Email area.
Quit Address Book then relaunch. Add a new contact and the new custom fields, Principal, etc. are there. All good so far.
I have a Now Contact file with about 200 contacts in it. I export all fields as a Text file, Tab delimited. No problems there. With Address Book launched, select Import, pick the text file, leave Text Encoding on Automatic and click Open.
The window that shows the fields for Address Book and fields for the text file side by side opens. This is where you match up the correct fields for importing. If I go to one of the fields from the text file that I created a custom field for, click under the Address Book heading on the Do not import, scroll thru the Apple choices of fields, none of the custom fields show up. Only the original Apple ones are there. Why does Apple let you create them in the Template area but not have them available for importing? Does anyone have suggestions on getting around this?

While most likely not of interest to you, Spotlight can also tell you where the files it finds are located
Hover the mouse pointer over the name, and press Command-Option and the path to the file will be displayed.
As for opening a terminal session in the directory where a file is located, there is Applescripts that do just that as well as specific features in Lion/Mountain Lion terminal:

  • Does Apple make a wireless pci card for the G5?

I have a new Airport Extreme base station, but my PowerMac G5 still has the old airport pci card. Does Apple make an "n" pci card that I can use to swap out my old wireless card?

No. Apple does not have an 802.11n solution for your PowerMac G5.

  • Why does apple not allow iphone to open .rtf word documents

Before you get lost in my post, please remember this.  I simply want to know how to view .rtf word document files from my mac products.  It's vital.  So there you go, please don't get upset at me because of my love/hate relationship with mac products.....
I like my apple products in general, but sometimes it seems as if the apple programmers are so stubborn and are not sympathetic to the actual end user.  There seems to be an unnecessary PC vs Mac mindset.  There needs to be a customer mindset.
People like me have problems seeing certain .rtf word documents that are created at work with a PC, emailed out to the emplyees, and then only those that use non-apple smartphones and computers are able to actually see the original / very important word document.  I (a mac user) am one of those people who gets ostracized because I use an iPhone and Macbook Pro.  Case in point:
My work prints out the next days schedule in a .rtf word document format.  It's usually an attachment.
When I try to view it with the iPhone (the worlds most popular "smart" phone), it can't see this common and very popular file type used by businesses and government employees.  It says "An error occured while reading the document".  Wonderful...I guess I have to call my buddy with a blackberry.
When I try to view the common file with my $1,200 MacBook Pro, it doesn't know how to open up this .rtf file by default.  I have to select "Open it with: Preview, or Text Edit".  Then, a useless downloads box remains up after the computer has finished downloading...and then it sends the file to an inconvinient destination...somewhere that I have to then go on a hunt for by using the "today" option in finder.  I use the word "useless" because these download windows are always empty and instead of being useful (by actually containing the file that I just clicked to open), it then requires you to go for a time wasting/frustrating hunt.  How hard would that be?  Actually making the experience user friendly?  You tell the computer to download a file, it downloads it, and then shows the file to you in that window? Preposterous!  (sorry, I'm not trying to sound pompous...I'm just frustrated)
Anyway, sometimes the computer will attempt to translate it (a schedule with peoples names, times, and it's contained within boxes that resemble an excel spreadsheet), but everything winds up all messed up and jumbled.  Instead of reading the .rtf word file...macs resort to a lackluster attempt to translate it for you.
Maybe I am not seeing things correctly.  I don't know.  I'm just a common man.  I do know this though.  The programmers need to listen to the people and not be different just for the sake of being different.
How do I get my iphone and macbook to open up a .rtf file as soon as I select it??? I want it to behave like a PC does with respect to being user friendly and logical.  (I don't want to have to save it on a thumbdrive, go to a second computer while jumping on one leg, upload the file, brew a cup of coffee while I wait, translate it, and then send it back to my iphone so that I can view it....I'm only partly joking here)
Thanks for the help in advance.

My iPhone won't view them at all...yet.  I'm hoping that I can figure it out.
Well when I use pages to open the file on my macbook, it opens up an incorrect interpretation.  Things are mis-aligned.  Think of columns and rows.  If the original document had A1 defined as John Doe and A2 defined as a time of 10:30, then Pages in my Macbook may translate it as A1 - John Doe, A2 - blank, B1 - blank, B2 - 10:30.  The lines that are used to outline boxes wind up different lengths and thicknesses as well.
    For example:
PC word doc (original)                                                  Mac (translation)
    John Doe  |  10:30                                              John Doe     |
                                                                                                        _______ 10:30
Above is a simple interpretation, but I hope that it sort of gives you a visual representation of what I'm seeing (if I see anything at all).  Things appear in the wrong places and a one page document turns into 3-4 pages of incorrect "fluff" if you know what I mean.

  • Why does apple make it so difficult to understand what is going on with my one to one?

Does anyone have any answers for this? I don't even know where to list it here as a question.
Just spent over 2 hours, off and on, trying to get someone at apple to help figure out what's going on with my one to one. They give a number for help but there's no one there - only more gibberish about go here go there go all over the place on their site.... So called 'customer service' doesn't understand my question? Another place it says call the store, well that was another waste of time....
If I get a message saying my one to one is expired and then I pay for it via paypal, wait for the activation email. I sure don't want to pay for something I already have - that was my grocery money for 2 weeks.
When I click on that link it says:
    Activation error
This membership cannot be activated because this Apple ID is already associated with a One to One membership.

  • TS2972 I have tried all of these suggestions and still nothing happens after I turn on Home Sharing on both computers. PLEASE HELP!!!! And why does Apple make you pay for customer service? Does anyone else find that totally irrational?

Can anyone explain why I can't get Home Sharing to work? I've tried every suggestion I can find and nothing works.

Scan the Support Community sites. Apple TV losing connection is prevalent. The many postings point out the problem occurs with Apple TV1,2and 3; with different brands of router including Airport Extreme; from current and past versions of iTunes; after varying periods of working well.....minutes, hours, days; losing connection with Home Sharing and loosing Airplay; whether the router and Apple TV are in same room or separated by distance; after trying innumerable posted 'fixes'; after exchanging for a new Apple TV.
Readers, please don't post a fix until you check it works for atleast a week.

  • Why Oh Why does Apple make it so hard to get an simple answer on something-

My main complaint is that Apple seems to go out of its way to put everything in categories for support help, and makes it very difficult to access a simple email access to support techs for questions that are not listed. Most recent example:
I purchased my first Mac in about 25 years this past September (now realize that I should have stayed with Apple after I bought the original Apple computer and later "upgraded" to an Apple IIC - HA!) - and yes, I should have bought the Apple care assistance but with all the travel I do it would have been very difficult to schedule time. Anyway...
All I want to know right now is that I bought my Mac Pro in early September only to find out that if I bought it in later October, I'd be eligible for an upgrade to Snow Leopard for only $7. But since I bought it in September, does that mean I have to pay the full $149 for upgrading to both Snow Leopard and iLife? Or since I'm such a recent customer that there would be other options?
Anyone have any ideas? Or at least could help me find a way to email someone at Apple to get an answer?
    Thanks!!

My main complaint is that Apple \[...] makes it very difficult to access a simple email access to support techs
Apple doesn't do support via e-mail. Personally, I think that's a reasonable choice, but discussing Apple policy here is strictly against the [terms of use of these forums|http://discussions.apple.com/help.jspa#terms], and thus may be enough to get your post removed.
I bought my Mac Pro in early September only to find out that if I bought it in later October, I'd be eligible for an upgrade to Snow Leopard for only $7.
If you bought your machine in September of +this year+, then it should have had SL on it already. If you bought in September of +last year+, then you would have been eligible to upgrade for $100 (don't know where you heard $7). The dates of purchase for eligible machines were June 8 to December 26, in 2009. Dunno where you got October from. Sounds like whatever source you got that information from was not a good one.
Of course, this is probably all moot now. I doubt that the Up-to-Date program is still going, since the release of SL was more than a year ago.

  • Why does apple stop making iphone 5?

Why apple discontinued iphone 5 ?
Will apple start making it again?

Why apple discontinued iphone 5 ?
Because they brought out the iPhone 5S and 5C.
Will apple start making it again?
Nobody here would know, but it seems extremely unlikely.

  • Does Apple make different iPhones for T-Mobile and ATT?

Here is the question, Will a T-Mobile phone have fewer dropped calls than an ATT phone under similar conditions, Both iPhones each having a T-Mobile simm card in each? The ATT iphone was a 4s and the proposed T-Mobile iPhone 6 plus.
Here is our story, In May 2014 , we moved to the metro Denver/Boulder area we arrived with iPhones 4.S purchased from ATT but had switched service to T-Mobile before our move. The cell phone service was unsatisfactory with a number of dropped calls. so we switched to iPhone 5s from Verizon .
Now we are interested in buying a iPhone 6 plus each for me and my wife so we are considering a T-Mobile iPhone 6 plus because of their deals however, I am suspicious of their service.
Today I went to the T-Mobile store and relayed our experience with the ATT phones/T-Mobile simm cards. They assured me that the problem was with the ATT phones and not with T-Mobiles service.
    1.Is this accurate?
    2.Would you stick with Verizon?

    swifty8 wrote:

    No, it's utter nonsense.
AT&T and Verizon tend to be more expensive than Sprint or TMobile. Sometimes, you get what you pay for.

  • Why does apple make it so difficult to contact them?  I just want a follow up on a case I opened and can't seem to get to the right place.  You can't follow up with the email because it's a no reply. Very frustrating.

Anyone have a link? I have been going round in circles for at least an hour.  Not much fun with a home button that dosnt work.

you get help with anything you need if you go to a Apple store, i've been using apple for many years and they have never let me down, also you can contact them by phone, here is the link to the page: http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57

  • Why does apple ipad and iphone have problems with comcast?

We attempt to send pictures through our comcast wifi account and gets to about 90%and freezes. Have reset modem, and router, have turned off phone and reset it. Have switched to 4G then pictures will send. Only has problem when connected to wifi. As my ipad is wifi, I cannot send pictures at all with it.
Did not have this problem until iOS 6 update.
    Any suggestions?

My iPad and other devices have no problems with Comcast, but I didn't get my WiFi router from them. If you did, your router may need a firmware update, or you may need to get a different model of router.
