Why does apple say to leave the side door shut while computer is on?

I dont understand why you have to have the side door closed when the computer is on. What does the case do for the computer nothing because the plastic is covering the proccessors so its locked shut. Ive had mine off for a couple of days in it runs the same and i went to the store and they had the case off to while the computer was running. Does anyone have theres off while using it?

FWIW...I've left mine off for 20+ months and had over 14,000 TROUBLE-FREE HOURS on it. My drive bay ran 6F cooler with it off.

Apple saw it as their responsibility since the redirection took me to the App Store. They assisted me in stopping the redirection which is occurring on many peoples iPhones. It's a have java script problem that adking is using to get you to buy their games. The websites work normal and then all of the sudden the website is taken over by adking.com. You can no longer use the website as it immediately takes you to the App Store without ever showing a popup to cancel the redirection. They were very helpful fixing the problem should others experiencing this specifically with adking.com.
No need to get defensive. I'm not the only one experiencing the problem Apple said.

Be sure it is really a 3rd gen. Some people with 2nd gens were told they were 3rd gens. Identifying iPod models or Look up specs by Serial Number. If it is a 2nd gen, then you can't upgrade.
IF IT REALLY IS A THIRD GEN iPod Touch, then you first need to upgrade to iTunes 10.5 in order to download iOS 5 because older versions of iTunes don't support and can't sync with iOS 5.

Why does my ipad suddenly leave the app I am using and go back to the main screen

When I am using apps on my ipad it suddenly leaves the app and reverts to the main screen, does anyone know why this happens?? Is it a problem with the ipad?? Doesn't happen with any particular app, seems to affect all apps. And it doesn't happen all the time, just sometimes, very annoying. Any ideas as to what could be going on

This is typically a memory issue - meaning, you have too many apps running. You don't mention your device and iOS version so it's difficult to say. Try this...
Double click the Home button and close all open apps.
Reset your iPad by simultaneously pressing and holding the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons until you see the Apple Logo. This can take up to 15 seconds so be patient and don't release the buttons until the logo appears.
Try again to see if the problem persists.

Hello! I`ve got a problem with iTunes. I usually use iTunes on my MacBook Pro. Today I installed it on my PC and entered my Apple ID. After that I got a message from Apple saying that I am using 5! computer - and I sure am not as I only have two ( My XP laptop has given up a long time ago - it doesn`t exist anymore. Got no iPhone, no iPad either). Can anyone tell me what`s going wrong here?

Some of your computers may have been (or still may be) using multiple authorisations.
Perhaps try doing a "Deauthorise all" and then reauthorise the computers you still have access to? (That should get you back down to 2 authorisations.) See the following document for instructions:

Why does Apple say that Numbers can open and save Excel files, when in actuality, it can only open .XLSX files and only Export to Excel (not save-as excel)?

When attempting to open .XLS files in Numbers, the format is not recognized. When the format is .XLSX, the format is recognized. Why is it this way? It's still much more common for folks to have the .XLS file format on their excel files. Why would Numbers not be backwards-compatible?
Additionally, to state in the benefits of this program that one can save to 'Excel' is a little misleading. You can't save to anything except .numbers. Sure, you can export to Excel (with file extension .XLS, I might add), but you can't save or save-as.
Does anyone else see the irony in being able to export to .XLS but not be able to open an .XLS?
There is something to be said for clarity.
You can't expect folks to have Numbers and Excel on their systems, so how else are they supposed to open .XLS files in Numbers?
And I don't need to see another advertisement for NeoOffice or OpenOffice here, thanks. I'd actually like Numbers to be a little more sensible.

When the advertisements were written, there was no Lion so we were able to Save As Excel.
At thiqs time there is no longer Save As command under Lion but the feature is always available.
When your editing task is ended, you are free to use this scheme:
File > Duplicate
File > Save and in the dialog you will have the option save as Excel.
Numbers isn't and I hope that it will not become an Excel editor.
Its resources contain a flag defining it this way.

Why does apple let you install the update if it's just going to fail?

I got the 3GS maybe a month ago. I had issues running updates on my old iphone (the original) and used to have to go into apple's genius bar in order to do updates. I was sort of hoping that the updates would run fine on the 3GS, but 3.1.2 failed for me.
Anyways, it gave me some error code and I followed the link to kb article TS1275: http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1275
From there I discovered that port 443 wasn't open on my computer and that was probably the problem. So I opened it up and I'm trying to run the update again (although so far nothing is happening).
My question is this: why would itunes let me try to run the update at all if I didn't meet the prerequisites? Since the update is obviously going to fail if port 443 is closed, why doesn't it verify that I have the port open before it tries to update?
I'm just a little peeved that I have to drive an hour to go see the geniuses (yet again).

Why does Apple refuses to use the activation procedure in iTunes to block a stolen iPhone 4S

My iPhone was stolen in Buenos Aires by two, male and female, professional culprits roaming the tourist areas.
Blocked the iPhone (SIM card), filed a police report and activated "Find my iPhone".
Called Apple support with proof of ownership and asked them to put this iPhone on the blacklist in order to avoid activation on iTunes.
Thieves and people trying to buy cheap iPhone's will end up having just a heavy iPod touch. That will learn the fat bastards.
Hope Apple will soon introduce a new App; Explode my iPhone in the face of a thief.

Why does it say 'Mshome' in the Network finder?

I'm running a MacBook and a 12" PowerBook. The MacBook is working fine with regard to networking, but the PowerBook comes up with folders 'Mshome' and 'My Network'. What are they for and how do I get rid of them?
Also, I can easily see the Powerbook over a wireless network on the MacBook (as in, it come up under the 'servers' folder in the Network folder). However, you can't see the MacBook from the PowerBook. Any clues?

First.
One or both of the macs are configured for a Windows "workgroup". Windows XP workgroups are typically MSHOME.
Is there anything in that folder when you looked?
Configuring for this is done in the Utilities>DirectoryAccess, SMB/CIFS>Configure...look in the Workgroup box.
There's likely nothing in "Network"
Either way? don't delete 'em...ignore 'em.
I don't know the answer to your other question...Got File sharing turned on? firewall set to allow that traffic?

I am EXTREMELY UNHAPPY that I upgraded. SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO slow and hard to navigate! Ridiculous!

Scary, huh? Fortunately, unlike several other screwups in 11, all you need to do is just uncheck "Search Entire Library" in the Search pull down menu and it will back to normal.
