Why Does Apple Store Software Updates in the Windows 7 'Roam' folder?
I noticed that the Software Updates are being stored in the 'Roam' folder for the Windows 7 user profile. Any comments on why that may be? And is there any way to change it so that these updates live in the 'local' folder, to prevent long login/logoff times?

I am having the exact same problem with trying to sync my iPad with my computer. To make a long story short, I had to reinstall Windows for my computer and therefore had to reinstall itunes.
I have done back ups in the past for my ipod touch and other ipods with no problems, but unfortunately I have never been able to back up my iPad. During a sync, the iPad would always disconnect from my computer and it would never finish. it would say the connection was lost, but nothing is wrong with the connection.
So now I have over 100 apps and thousands of pictures that I am afraid will be deleted if I run the sync in itunes. I have tried to transfer purchases and it goes through the list of apps, but nothing is ever transferred.
Any help would be appreciated. I am not interested in jailbreaking my iPad to solve this problem. There should be a fix for this and I want to upgrade to ios 4.3 as the original poster. Please help -

The option to update without the computer (Over the air) was made available with iOS 5. If your iDevice is using a version of iOS lower than 5, you will need to use iTunes on your syncing computer to perform the upgrade. Use the Apple link below as a guide for the upgrade.

If in some extremely unlikely event the screen cracked on it's own, and you could prove that it happened that way, it would be covered under the warranty. However, you would have to have a very compelling case and great evidence that the screen cracked due to a manufacturers defect.

Why does iDVD store stuff "all over the place"? Project now broken
Hi all,
did an hour long family movie project, and in the meantime cleaned up my documents folder and deleted some stuff that I thought was internet downloads etc, or extra working files.
Turns out it was the important audio stuff for iDVD!
I've broken my project... the stuff was obviously important, and now when I open this project it has a big broken chain on it.
Why does iDVD store important stuff "all over the place" like that? I mean, it's confusing enough (for newbies) to learn where the events and where the projects are stored, but why does it strip off the sound and store them in documents where ANYTHING could get deleted?Just to add, an iDVD project should be thought of as a shell, an empty container. It has references to the media files used in it, but does not actually contain these files. The files remain in their normal locations. When you burn to disk, or create a disk image file, iDVD pulls these files just for encoding onto a DVD disk or into a disk image file. It does not really move these files into its project files. Your iMovies, photos and audio files remain where they are. If you move, change, rename or delete any of these files, iDVD will not be able to locate them, and you will see the broken link images.
For this and several other reasons, it is a good idea to leave everything alone and not go deleting any files until you have finished your iDVD project.
Then, when you are ready to burn it to DVD disk, be sure to do a 'Save as disk image' to create a disk image file of the project. This process looks like the burn process, and the encoding will take just as long, but the end result is a self-contained disk image file, not a burned DVD disk.
The advantage of the disk image file is that you will have an exact copy of your iDVD project with all the media files encoded into it. You now can safely delete all the media used in this iDVD project without losing the project. Now you can clean up your documents folder! Deleting all the files used in the project will also save you drive space.
You can save disk image files as backups and can move them to external drives or other computers. You can burn DVD disks from disk image files using Disk Utility or Toast. You don't have to worry about your burned DVD disk breaking/melting or having something spilled on it (kids in the house!). You can always get the disk image file and burn another copy. (Great for the relatives who somehow 'lose' the great DVD you made for them!).
You cannot edit the disk image files however, so you should be creating one only when your project is completely finished.
If you wish to save all your iDVD files while you are working on a project, you can archive your iDVD project. I have not found the need to do this, but the link J Keller gave you for the tutorial explains how to save as archive and as disk image. Obviously, the archive project will be larger since it is saving all the media. Archived projects can also be moved to other drives or computers.

Why does Apple store insist I have one update available after I've installed it?
I've updated iPhoto on my Air to Version 9.4.1, which I assume is the most current version. Yet App store insists I have 1 update available (the "#1" continues to show both on the App Store dock icon as well as the update icon in the upper menu when I open the App Store icon. Yet the only program I see that's eligible for updating in App store is iPhoto 9.4.1, with the dim "Installed" indication at the far right of the screen.
Is this merely a temporary quirk that will eventually go away--or is it an indication that my install was defective or incomplete?
(My previous attempts to update were rejected because of insufficient space. So I proceeded to delete duplicates and unnecessary items. It's possible I fell short. How can I know for sure whether the update was successfully completed?)

everytime i go to a new complaint, another angry fellow ff user there is matt n with his infuriating smiling little picture...telling me about the awesome safety and security of the new ff...ignoring that a supposed safe but ugly and unusable browser is worse than a customized, beautiful, well functioning browser...with supposed safety issues. i am so angry i cannot express how this has wasted my time. i have been online for 2 hours now figuring out how to fix, apparently i cannot. my old theme is not compatible now...so i am screwed.

I use a Lexmark Pro901 & Pro915. One printer I use at work and the other at home. I've connected the printer cable to my MacBook Pro and both printers during the update and nothing changes.

If you used Boot Camp Assistant to create a partition to install Windows to you need a REAL Windows 7 or 8 install media and license key and you have to actually install Windows on your Mac. Boot camp is only for creating a partition to install Windows and starting the Windows install from REAL Windows install media.
That Windows install media has to be a DVD disc, if your Mac has a built in DVD drive (Apple does not allow Windows to be install any other way on Mac computers that originally come with a built in DVD drive), or from a USB stick with the actual Windows install files on it (Not an ISO of the Windows install files).
So the question is did you install Windows on your Mac? It doesn't look like it from the Option key boot and the list of available Boot Devices you posted. -
Why does Apple lock my phone to the first SIM I activate with? How to clear the IMEI?
I paid a premium to purchase a unlocked iPhone direct from Apple Canada so that I could use this phone around the world with various SIM cards. As it turns out however, Apple locks this phone upon the initial activation with the SIM I had installed for the activation. The result is that I can receive calls, send/receive SMS but cannot send calls.
Apple tells me that its Rogers I need to talk to. Rogers wants $60 to unlock my phone and tell Apple's IMEI database that this phone is legit. So why can't Apple register my IMEI directly in their own database? I bought the phone from them, unlocked.
This is unacceptable frankly!
Apple advised to do a restore from iTunes with the new SIM and it should unlock. I attempted this after a backup, restoring from the backup, but am still unable to make calls.
Can anyone please advise how I can register my IMEI directly with Apple or how I can get this working again? I'm 5 months with a $800 piece of hardware that can't make phone calls.
@Apple...can you please provide me with an official story of how this works, why its done this way and how it is to be solved?
Appreciate the time of anyone who can help on this matter.iPhones which are sold subsidized or bought directly from a carrier are all carrier locked iPhones.
The only way to buy an unlocked iPhone is direct from Apple at full price. This is just the way it is.
As far as unlocking the iPhone goes it is up to the carrier. Rogers started to unlock iPhones back in December for $50 + applicable provincial taxes, which puts it somewhere close to $60. This is a service that Rogers offers and has nothing to do with Apple. Yes the IMEI number is added to town Apple server somewhere but the service is to do with Rogers. If you are having issues with the unlocking process then you need to contact Rogers.
Once the IMEI number has been sent in you should be able to connect your iPhone to iTunes and do one of two things. You can restore the iPhone with the original SIM. You should get a message saying the iPhone is unlocked with the restore is completed. Second option is to install a sim card from a differnt carrier and then connect to iTunes. No restore should be required if you have a sim card from a differnt carrier.
If you are not getting service with the new carrier and the sim card I would say double check that the sim card is working properly and is activated with the new carrier. You should be able to call them to see. -
Upon starting Firefox, often after starting or restarting my computer but sometimes after closing the Firefox browser(s) for a significant time, the program asks to update. Firefox asks this every time, and I have no idea how many times I have updated to the most recent browser version and I suspect the update is not saving correctly so the program is continually reverting to the last recent browser version.
There are no useragent prefs listed in the System Details List and extensions.lastAppVersion: 15.0.1 suggests also that you run Firefox 15.0.1.
Do a clean reinstall and delete the Firefox program folder before (re)installing a fresh copy of the current Firefox release.
Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.

if possible uninstall your current Firefox version to cleanup the Windows registry and settings in security software.

Your bookmarks and other personal data are stored in the Firefox profile folder and won't be affected by an uninstall and (re)install, but make sure that "remove personal data" is NOT selected when you uninstall Firefox.

I was requested by Mozilla Firefox to do an update, and per the request I clicked on the update. A window came up (it is now gone@#$^&!!!!) and it just kept repeating that it was connecting to the update server. It appeared to be actively trying to connect, but I never got a message saying that it did and that the update had indeed been done. Can you please assist me with this issue?

You may need to delete active-update.xml and updates.xml as well if present.

Does 1.01 software update fix the freezing Apple logo porblem?
Been on holiday since before this was released and therefore not hasd a chance to check. I have my iPod classic 160GB with me and it seems to be working sweetly with 4,000 tracks (30% of my library). This is the most I could ever sucessfully upload despite trying with 2 different models. I love the interface, even if it is slowish and the sound quality is good too. I don´t want to have to return another one, this time for a refund as will miss the good things about it.
I return from holiday on Sunday and would like to think that the freezing issue has been reslove via the firmware update (or iTunes 7.4.2) but cannot find any confirmation of this. A lot of the posters with this problem appear to have gone away. Does this mean it´s fixed?Hello !
I have a ipod classic 160gb, and i updated it to 1.0.1, but my itunes was 7.4.1 while synching. I have the apple-logo-freeze problem when i try to synch my whole library. The Update to 1.0.1 didn't change anything!
So far i found out my ipod is working with "almost" all playlist synchronized, it's just one playlist-folder i can't synch or it will freeze. But i already tried to synch that folder first without the other music, then it works flawless, but when filling it up with the rest, it freezes again, it's really annoying, i can't localize the problem at all. It seems like the ipod won't work with all the playlists on it. Well, trying now to update itunes and do the whole thing again... for about the 9th time -
HT202157 Why does apple TV not come with the micro cable?
I spent 100 bucks on this thing. It would be nice to know if i need the cable to watch my TV. This thing just stopped working. I'm going to return this and go get the chrome cast (35 dollars and it works). This is a major pain to have to go out and buy one.

Apple doesn't supply the cable because only a handful of people ever need one and of those that do the vast majority will already have one.
For the overwhelming number of users who don't need or already have a cable this represents a saving when they purchase their Apple TV which of course then doesn't include the price of a cable.
For the very few users who do need to purchase a cable, they have lost nothing because they are only paying for something they would have had to pay for when they bought the Apple TV, if a cable was included in the box. -
Why does my Panel not update with the new picture?

Frequently after I have been viewing numerous sites on firefox, when I close down the last window and try to reopen firefox, I am told that the program is already running and needs to be shut down. Using Task Manager is not useful, since task manager doesn't show the program as up and running. The only way to get the program to close so it can be used for a different subject is to reboot the computer. This is happening 10 - 12 times a week now, and gradually getting worse. This closes out everything I have open, making it necessary to save all opened files BEFORE I reboot, and then going back to reopen all of them. None of the other questions I've seem point to this particular quirk in the problem.
This is not a cure but will make it easier if Firefox locks up.
