Why does my iPad1 (iOS 5.0.1) insist I update and also allow me to update to an application that now only works on iOS 6.1 and above?
I though you could stay on the last compatable version?
Whilst the update has downloaded and installed, the application wont work - because now only works on 6.1 and above?
How do I downgrade to an older version of the App that is 5.1.1 compatable?

Yes this was my understanding - sorry I am already on 5.1.1 - finger must have slipped. The application is 4OD a TV catch up service in the UK. It appears that the developer has written the code to only work on 6.1 and above, but has somehow tricked the app store into beliving its compatable with all version of iOS. Therefore It will download and install (thus overwriting previous versions) on anything - and then declares that it will only opperate on 6.1 and above.
As I purchased my iPad specificaly for watching the Catch Up services of the UK public service TV broadcasters, and the sales man in the Apple Store assured me it did this. I am considering launching a legal chalange, as the product no longer performs the task for which it was purchased (In the UK a product has to perform the task for which it was purchased for 5 to 7 years). Unfortunatly my case will have to be against Apple, even though they have put in place the protection to ensure older iOS devices shoul never go past the 'Last Compatable Version' as its become obvious this publisher has cercumnavigated these protections.

Everything in the Adobe site leads me to believe that the CC versions of the aplications are the current versions, however, when I open application manager, I only see the CS6 versions. Do I have to uninstall something and then reinstal? What do I do to install the CC versions?

Why does mail insist to "organize by conversation"? I uncheck it and a few days later it is checked.

I don't want my mail sorted by conversation yet I have to uncheck the choice every few days.... why does apple insist that you organize by conversation? I hate it.

Unfortunately, something is just not right even though I pretty much always keep my Macs in good health. When I move that folder (~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail) and let it create a new one, Mail stops remembering ANY preferences. I can move and resize my windows and change my Prefs, but when I quit and relaunch Mail it goes back to some default state with none of my changes honored. Furthermore, when I search for the string "DisplayInThreadedMode" with BBEdit within that folder and all its subfolders, nothing is found.
Maybe it has to do with how many things I disable on the recent OS X versions. I routinely disable Spotlight, Notification Center, Dashboard, Auto-Save & Versions, Gatekeeper, Automatic App Termination.... you know, all that stuff that I never asked for and don't need/want ;-)
Maybe I could try re-enabling Auto-Save or something. Still, no other apps ever seem to behave strangely when I set all these "hidden preferences" to disable these unwanted OS features. Who knows, maybe the Mail team (programmers) just started assuming something was available which they didn't used to assume in 10.8.

There lies the possible root of the problem. Make sure you keep enough available space for the ipad to update and function properly.

Apple haven't stopped giving updates to the iPhone 4. The fact that an update has just been released only for the iPhone 5 does not imply this.

I am having the exact same problem with trying to sync my iPad with my computer. To make a long story short, I had to reinstall Windows for my computer and therefore had to reinstall itunes.
I have done back ups in the past for my ipod touch and other ipods with no problems, but unfortunately I have never been able to back up my iPad. During a sync, the iPad would always disconnect from my computer and it would never finish. it would say the connection was lost, but nothing is wrong with the connection.
So now I have over 100 apps and thousands of pictures that I am afraid will be deleted if I run the sync in itunes. I have tried to transfer purchases and it goes through the list of apps, but nothing is ever transferred.
Any help would be appreciated. I am not interested in jailbreaking my iPad to solve this problem. There should be a fix for this and I want to upgrade to ios 4.3 as the original poster. Please help

Why does Adobe refuse to provide the latest version of Camera Raw (like my Canon 6d) that could be supported in Photoshop CS5 or earlier? Its like Adobe saying you want a Camera Raw for you Camera then buy CS6 which is insulting to your customers.

Adobe's policy to to provide free updates (not upgrades) for currently shipping software, which means the current Photoshop CS6 and Camera Raw 7.x. Development on Photoshop CS5.x and Camera Raw 6.x stopped when Photoshop CS6 started shipping. Camera Raw is a plug-in for Photoshop and as such, it is dependent on the Photoshop SDK in which it loads...it's also dependent upon the system level APIs being used by the applications. Could Adobe keep upgrading old software? Yes, but it would be a technical nightmare.
Your alternative is simply use the free DNG Converter if you want to use new cameras that weren't in existence when your old software was developed. Pretty simple really and it's not designed as insult to Adobe customers...it's actually an affirmative program to make sure current users are provided support.
The problem of new camera support for old software is really a problem caused primarily by the camera companies spawning off new cameras whose file formats are undocumented and proprietary. If the camera makers adopted a standard file format that could be opened in standard applications (kinda like DNG) then tis problem would be mitigated. You really should place the lion's share of the problem at the feet of the camera companies...

Sorry to hear that. I understand your frustration and I hope they send back a better working N78-3.
Myself, I count myself lucky. Everything works perfectly for me right now...email, bluetooth, maps, gps, 3rd party apps, battery life, 3G, wifi, etc. etc.
The only issue I've been having is the dreaded reboots but I believe that may have to do with 3rd party apps. I recently uninstalled Google Search app from my N78 and since then it hasn't rebooted or shown any issues. This seems odd at first but makes sense if you think about the fact that the Google Search app loads itself into memory and runs in the background at all times.
I did this this past Tuesday night and so far no reboots, crashes or any problems. I'm sure I just jinxed myself but I've been using it heavily over the last few days with no issues. Prior to this, it would usually reboot every 2 days. If it doesn't reboot for another few days I'll be happy.
I would normally not stand for this but I just love the phone and if I got something else it'd probably be the iPhone 3G which has perhaps more software bugs and issues than the N78-3!!

Be sure it is really a 3rd gen. Some people with 2nd gens were told they were 3rd gens. Identifying iPod models or Look up specs by Serial Number. If it is a 2nd gen, then you can't upgrade.
IF IT REALLY IS A THIRD GEN iPod Touch, then you first need to upgrade to iTunes 10.5 in order to download iOS 5 because older versions of iTunes don't support and can't sync with iOS 5.

Why does Aperture want to update my Library on Exit?

I recently completed constructing a new Library from several Libraries on different hard drives. The new Library (referenced) consolidates all my 2012 images. After finishing my last Library merge (merging a 95K image Library, 750 GB) and relocating the masters, I clicked the exit command.
The program immediately gave me the drop-down tab at the top informing me it was Updating Library, and started with 1 of some 2.1 million items. At about one second per item on my anemic MacPro, I did some quick mental math and force quit the application. (There are maybe 350K images in the Library anyway, not 2.1 million)
Any ideas why it is trying to "update" the new Library item by item? All of the source Libraries were fully updated to 3.2.4. prior to being consolidated.
I can avoid the updating by using the switch command to go to another library. Is there any reason to believe that repairing the Library would eliminate the updating behavior?

I still think your best path forward is:
- _Rebuild_ Library
- Close Aperture
- Let it run at least 24 hours.
Often the initial time estimates (by computer or observer ) are inaccurate due to extrapolating from a non-representative data set. iStatMenu (or similar, including the OS X Activity Monitor) may give some insight into what (if anything) Aperture is doing. Be sure to have a lot of free disk space (> 50 GB is my rule-of-thumb for huge Aperture Libraries) on your system drive.
Obviously, 20 days is too long to let it run. I have never had a Library run any task without finishing longer than 90 hours. (That was with a test Library that is: >6,000,000 files, >600,000 Images, > 1 TB.)
IME, the database handling and maintenence of Aperture is superb. The limitation in Library size seems to be the time it takes to do some administrative tasks.
Keep us posted.

You might also try turning off Faces. This was useful with earlier 3.x versions, but was, afaict, cured by 3.2. I suspect that Aperture does some work on the Faces database without reporting that in the Activity window.

When Flash asks me if I want to update, it takes me to an Adobe page to update it, but there is a checkbox already checked to install McAfee Security Scan Plus. I already have an anti-virus program installed. Why does the flash update page assume that I want to install this software?

Generally this occurs because there's a third-party plug-in that affects how the JavaScript on the page got executed. Ghostery, AdBlock Pro and NoScript are common candidates.
Under normal operating conditions, you should see an opt-out dialog like the one below. While cost-recovery measure are a reality for a product that is tremendously expensive to develop and distribute free of charge, the intent is absolutely to allow you to opt out.
If you want to avoid the download and installation experience for Flash altogether, switch to a browser that includes Flash Player as a built-in component, like Google Chrome or Internet Explorer on Windows 8 and higher.

I would repeat myself... "available updates for Adobe Flash Player are automatically included in Chrome system updates".
Chrome automatically updates when new versions of Flash Player are available. The integrated Google Chrome Flash plug-in cannot be uninstalled using the Flash Player uninstaller. You can only enable or disable the integrated plug-in.
Therefore, as it's showing you're at the latest version 10.3.183.23, it would appear it is an issue 'internal' to Chrome's system updates; reason why I had referred you to their support, or alternativelly, post to their forums.
