Why does audio not work when video chatting?

For some reason the audio doesn't work when I video chat (skype and oovoo) The person can hear me but I can't hear them. How do I fix?

Check to see that your little one did not by accident get something (anything) in the headphone jack. If there is debris in there (and it doesn't take much) it will make your device think a set of headphones is jacked in and you won't be able to hear through speakerphone or handset.
While holding it with the jack down, blow across the jack and tap gently. It often will dislodge whatever is in there.

IChat audio not working during video chats

For the last month or so I have been unable to get normal audio connections during iChat video chats.
The person on the other end can hear me, but the audio I hear from them pops in and out and frequently seems muted. I thought it was their computer at first, but now the problem seems to be happening to me chatting with different people that are on different computers. It's also not an internet problem at my home, because the problem occurs consistently when I am at different locations, in different cities.
It's not my mute button, and I've checked my sound preferences in system preferences and everything looks okay. This seems to be associated with a system software upgrade and I'd love to know how to fix it. Running OS 10.6.4 on a MacBook Pro 17".
I read some of the other discussions on this topic and couldn't find a solution, or anything I could easily understand how to fix.

iChat 5 uses your whole Internet speed.
This is different to iChat 4 and Earlier that was capped by what was set in System Preferences > Quicktime > Streaming (Also not there in Snow Leopard).
If you and your Buddy are on vastly different Internet speed iChat will try to match the lowest Upload speed at both end.
After that Buffering tries to smooth out the natural variances in Connection speed you have.
This is where the issue mostly lies.
iChat has always tended to drop Audio before any picture issue show up.
As the Max setting in Quicktime was 1.5Mbps a 5% or even 10% variance was handled by iChat.
However in iChat 5 you may be on a 20Mbs+ service both Up and down and 5% of this is more than can be handled by the iChat Buffering.
What you can do is Limit iChat in the iChat Menu > Preferences > Video/Audio section > Bandwidth Limit.
Set it to 500kbps as a start.
Get your Buddy to do the same no matter what version they have.
If this is successful then try the 1Mb setting.
You can change during a chat.
If you have the Connection Doctor Open (Video Menu) you can watch the Bit rates change as the Buffering smooths this out.
Get you Buddy to Increase his Bandwidth Limit once the Bit rate has smoothed out.
Essentially repeat for each increase until you find what speed you can manage predictably and works with the most amount of Buddies.
NOTES:
Don't try below 200kbps. The real world lower Limit is 100kbps and you need some for any variances if someone only has 128kbps upload.
384Kbps is the lower limit for a 4 way Video chat with you as Host, so 500kbps is more than enough. You will only see figures in the Connection Doctor above this if both ends are on a very fast service. (Higher speeds as Host does stop 3rd and 4th Buddies causing a quality drop off).
Things that can impinge on your Connection Speed are other computers such as one doing a Download of something. You are left with a smaller Portion (Bandwidth).
Other apps also use some Bandwidth which is why iChat refers to the control as Bandwidth Limit - allowing enough for other apps.

Why does hotmail not work when I open it with firefox?

When I open firefox in safe mode hotmail is functional but when I open firefox normally hotmail does not work. I can't seem to find out what add ons I have.

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
*Do not click the Reset button on the Safe mode start window or otherwise make changes.

If it does work in Firefox Safe-mode then disable all extensions (Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one extension at a time until the problem reappears.

Why does PDF not work, when TOC is enabled?

Hello,
when I enable the TOC function in skin editor and publish my project in PDF, the file does not work and only contains strange strokes and quads.
What is the reason for this?
I used Captivate 4 before and verything worked well. Now , with Captivate 6 I got this problem or bug.

Audio not working on video chat

My friend and I can both see each other, but can't hear. We used the audio chat seperatly (by selecting the "phone" icon) and that worked, we could totally hear. But then we went back to video, and no audio. We've checked all the pointers that "help" suggests, mics are all on and selected, we have new mac books with internal microphones. Does anyone have any suggestions??

I can receive video and audio from a friend but she can only receive video from me. We tested with just audio and she can hear me fine. I first thought the problem was from my end as I had a very slow upload speed (satellite). I upgraded my modem to allow for around 250kb/s (can be slower or faster due to atmospheric conditions) but the problem persists. I applied Ralph Johns' suggestions, ran a speed test and tested with a dummy auto-respond user. I get video and audio. Do you think the problem is with me or my friend?

Why does audio not work at all?

Couple days ago I forgot to unlock my handheld that my 2 year-old son find it and play with it. I don't know what he did with my handheld, but 2 days after I just realised it when I try to make a phone call using my speakerphone, there were no sounds at all. I cannot hear any incoming messages or calling from my handheld. I've tried to play my media to check for the sound, and I can't hear anything. I share this story with some of my friends who are using Blackberry, they suggested me to update my phone. I did it. I have update my Blackberry with the version 5.0.0.732, but it seems no progress. Is there anyone ever had the same problem? Please give me some solution....

You may also use a noBreak space after the period at the end of the abbreviation.
If I remember well, in such case the capitalization will not apply.

I have used Firefox for years, as the fastest and most reliable browser for me, esp in China... not anymore! Last month (unknown to me) a hijacker called Vosteran took over my Firefox browser. I finally realized it and got it cleaned up using Malwarebytes anti-malware, and downloaded a new Firefox... now SAME problem exists, even with Vosteran removed!
Firefox will not allow me into ANY normal sites, saying they don't have the proper security code. This includes my Yahoo front page, email account, ESPN and other common sites that are certainly NOT dangerous. So, WHY does Firefox not work anymore? It is useless to me here in China the way it works now.

if this doesn't solve the issue (or it is already set properly), a possible solution depends on different factors:
* what is the '''error code''' shown under ''technical details'' on the error page?
in case the error code equals ''sec_error_unknown_issuer'', please attempt to add an exception on the bottom of the error page (but don't do it for real) and inspect the certificate (see the screenshot attached for instructions):
