Why does Back to My Mac slow to a crawl under heavy GPU usage?

I run Back to My Mac so that I can access my Mac Mini sitting at home from wherever I am on the road using my Macbook Pro.
I noticed that even with next to nil CPU usage, Back to My Mac runs normally when I have nothing else running, but slows to a crawl when I have GPU-intensive applications such as BOINC or Asteroid running.
What's even more weird is that screen updates seem to be timely and I can see what's happening on the computer in real-time right away. What becomes completely unresponsive are mouse clicks and keyboard presses, which I would think use a very miniscule amount of bandwidth and CPU. Most of the heavy lifting for a remote screen sharing session is actually transferring what's showing on the screen over the Internet, right?
Does anyone know if this is a reported bug and if there's an upcoming fix for this?
The Mac Mini I'm using is a Late 2009 with 8GB RAM and an SSD inside.
The MacBook Pro I'm using is a Late 2011 with 16GB RAM and an upgraded hybrid hard drive.
Both are running the latest version of Mavericks with all system updates installed.

Here is how I fixed it, sort of. I configured the Time Capsule (TC) in Bridge Mode behind the AT&T Gateway. Connected the TC to Gateway with ethernet cable. Port 3 of Gateway to WAN port on TC (the one with the circle above it). My desktop iMac is wired to a port on the TC. If the iMac is asleep, it will not be visible to a laptop (in the laptop sidebar) on the WAN side of the Gateway or one using the Gateway wireless network.
I set the iMac, using Energy Saver, so that the CPU never goes to sleep. Unless I force the iMac into sleep mode, it is now visible to a laptop on the WAN side of the Gateway and using the Gateway wireless network. "Wake for network access" has always been checked. Everything seems to work now with Back to my Mac as advertised.

I've recently installed Arch on my Dell E6400 which has a Intel AGN 5300 N Wireless card in it:

It works completely fine, even on WPA2/AES with N turned on. The problem occurs whenever I attempt to do anything where the speed approaches ~200kbps (copy file from a network share for instance), then it seems to really be struggling. This copy operation works fine on another laptop I have running Arch which reaches much higher speeds..

I've tried setting "option iwlagn swcrypto=1 11n_disable=1" in /etc/modprobe.d/wireless.conf", and that gets rid of the aggregation messages and allows me to reach speeds up to ~300kbps, but the speed still varies wildly although I am sitting three meters from the AP, and does not even allow streaming AVI video from a box sitting on the same network (wired)...
Also, I am getting strange results when pinging any given host..

Notice how the latency keeps rising, then suddenly drops, and then rises again.. The same happens when pinging external IPs..
One last thing: I've noticed that a couple of times when the network speed starts to slow down, the "Invalid misc" counter in "iwconfig wlan0" rises quickly.. Don't know if this is relevant?
I'm wondering if this can be related to this bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/linux/+bug/200509

I have the same card (intel 5300 on dell studio 1555)
I'm also having issues, but not as bad as you. From time to time I suffer a quite huge packet loss, and then enabling/disabling wifi solves it again.
I have 11n still enabled, but my speed is not what it should be. (wpa2, 11n)
File copy in linux: 2mbyte/s
File copy in windows: 8mbyte/s
My problems seems like what is described here, and intel seems to have an experimental firmware, but I haven't tried that yet:

When I check the Document Properties on Acrobat I can see that the fonts used in the document (Cambria, Times and Windings) are listed as "Embedded Subset" in the Fonts panel. The machine it was created on did use an earlier version of OS X and an old version of Word, but it seems to have the proper fonts...

Reading your comments I do not see that rolling back to an insecure Firefox 22 will actually help you much. You are probably best using IE, unless you have also damaged that.

Most others will not be having such problems. We are now able to say that with confidence because after developers missed a regression in Firefox 4 telemetry was introduced so that data was obtained. It may be an idea to turn on your telemetry, if you have not already done so, and decide to stick with Firefox.

Same problems here, too. It started a few days ago. A lot of users seem to have this/these problem(s). Is there still no solution to this from Apple, apart from a complete reset of the iPad? Quite embarrassing issue for Apple - the "settings" are a quite important part of a computer, and one that shouldn't freeze....
Other forums suggest it is an iCloud problem (which might explain that contacts does not work - and the calendar without sync is meaningless anyway). After MobileMe, with which many users had similar problems, had to be replaced by iCloud, maybe iCloud has to be replaced, too. MobileMe, iCloud, next is YouLoose, maybe. Hopefully Apple looks at its own wbsite and works on solutions.

Why does setOpaque(false) on Mac interfere with functionality of JSlider?

Hello, here is an SSCCE with a slider that works normally on my PC:

So then you haven't actually ran that SSCCE on a MAC then? No, no, she ran it on her Mac, my sis. I asked her to run it several times, and she definitely cannot move the thumb. Now, if I comment out the setOpaque(false), then she can move it all right.
But, I found a workaround. I did not realize that before, that Apple actually does include the "cross-platform" look and feel, not only their own Aqua. On the Sun website, it sort of implies that Apple only has Aqua, but on Apple website, I found they also support the cross-platform look.
And voila, I changed to the cross-platform, and now, everything works. Not only the sliders in non-opaque panels, but I had also a HUGE number of other problems getting my app to work on the Mac, and now, with the cross-platform look, they all disappeared!!

When my computer boots up I have all Microsoft programs running (word, power point, excel).
Please help me, it's starting to drive me crazy.
I have also tried to see if I can disable it in microsoft itself, but no luck.

Why does YouTube video load so slow in Safari

When I go to YouTube to look at any video with Safari ( 5.1.7 ) on my iMac the video never loads up correctly. I try to pause the video to let it load up but the video won't pause right away. Then I get the spinning beach ball. The video will not play until the entire page is loaded and the video has to be loaded before it will play correctly. This has been going on for at least four or five months. Now if I use Firefox ( 4.0 ) there is no problem at all. I don't want to use Safari for everything and then use Firefox just to look at YouTube. Anybody have any clues or answers?

This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. For instructions, launch the System Preferences application, select Help from the menu bar, and enter “Set up a guest account” (without the quotes) in the search box. Don't use the Safari-only Guest login created by Find My Mac.
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem(s)?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault in Mac OS X 10.7 or later, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The Guest login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
*Note: If FileVault is enabled under Mac OS X 10.7 or later, or if a firmware password is set, you can’t boot in safe mode.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem(s)?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2.

Just upgraded to version 11 but WHY does every new version get slower and slower!!

Its way to slow to browse the store! I really hate Itunes, can you download from the store using an alternative software?
If not is there a better alternative to this rubbish? I cant be doing with spending ages with the software hanging and hanging while I try to browse the store.

Too bad really, that you can not see it as an opportunity to make improvements and be a Hero in the process. Why does my recording voice sound slow?

Hello! I've recently been using Audition 5.5 and I have a Blue Yeti Microphone. I've been doing covers for a while on Audacity, but the overall sound wasn't good enough. So when I tried Audition, the sound was better but my voice wouldn't sync with the background music. I tried to record it in real time and then add the music later but it doesn't work. Can anybody tell me what I'm doing wrong???

Possibly you haven't got all the parts of the recording chain set to the correct sample rate. The Blue Yeti, Windows Sound and Audition must all be set to the same sample rate. With Audacity Windows is probably having to do a sample rate conversion to match the mic to the audio software. Doing that will cause quite a loss in sound quality. Audition is trying to do the correct thing when recording but saves the file with the incorrect sample rate info causing it to play back slowed down.
