Why does BEA Skimp on Linux Support ?

I was just curious why the only supported Linux platform is RedHat. One of
the things that immediately jumps to mind is that RedHat is not the world
market leader for Linux distributions. In fact, that would be SuSE. Although
RedHat has the advantage in the USA, Europe and Asia clearly prefer SuSE to
RedHat. Further, in Europe, you find more businesses using Linux in an
operating business. I think it would be beneficial if SuSE 8.0 was offered
as an official platform for WLS 7.0. The technical differences between the
operating systems are minimal and getting a testing environment for both
should be a fast process.
A few years ago, RedHat was the thing to watch in Linux. Pop open a copy of
SuSE 8.0 and you will see that this isn't the case anymore. SuSE is easier
to use, more stable, more friendly and its winning. I think BEA would do
well to officially support a winner. I know that we would appreciate it. We
certainly find SuSE to be better and get tired of various companies not
wanting to give us support for using their products on it. SuSE 8.0 is dream
Linux.

the mainframe Suse is listed below that.

Hi.
This means that when we certify Suse Linux for WLS 7 as indicated on
our
platform support page (http://edocs.bea.com/wls/platforms/index.html)
then
we
will support this configuration. Obviously this is not the case rightnow.
Management is estimating Suse certification for WLS 7 in the fall.
If you want to get this moving faster you might want to state yourbusiness case
through our sales organization.

Robert,
From BEA Product Management:
BEA recognizes that SuSE is growing very quickly outside of the
United
States.
Red Hat is still the most popular Linux variant in the U.S. by
far,
and
many of
our partners have requested that we prioritize Red Hat over other
Linux
variants. That being said, before this year we were not planning
on
ever
certifying SuSE, and now we've changed that policy due to requestsfrom
customers. We plan on continuing to certify this platform with
each
release.

  • Why does my Apple Mobile Device Support not uninstall?

Why does my Apple Mobile Device Support not uninstall from the Control Panel?  It appears that my unsuccessful iTunes install requires that I clean up ALL Apple software, before trying again.

Let's try a standalone Apple Mobile Device Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of why it's not installing under normal conditions.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:
    http://www.rarlab.com/
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi (or AppleMobileDeviceSupport64.msi) to do a standalone AMDS install.
(If it offers you the choice to remove or repair, choose "Remove", and if the uninstall goes through successfully, see if you can reinstall by doubleclicking the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi again.)
Does it install (or uninstall and then reinstall) properly for you?
If instead you get an error message during the install (or uninstall), let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.)

  • HT1595 Why does the apple tv not support WPA-Enterprise?

We want to roll out apple tv's to our screens throughout our stores for showing slide shows, ads etc, as well as in our board rooms on our projectors for easy airplay output options for our mobile devices.  It makes it very difficult and less secure if the apple tvs don't support the entprise level security.  With the internal chipworks virtually the same as other iOS devices, why doesn't the apple tv support it and other iOS devices do?
Apple : Please add this funcationality asap!

This is a user forum.  There is no one here from Apple to answer or support design dessions.  Apple calls AppleTV a "hobby" rather than a product.  They have never made it a major focus so if they are cutting courners it is not suprising.  ATV is deffinetly not an enterprise grade product.  It is ment for home use so I am not supprised it does not support it.

  • Why does MSI P4N have no support for Intel Preslor and Asus Nforce 4 does??

Well as you've probably guessed it im new to the forums (howdy all  ). I currently own a MSI P4N diamond motherboard and quite frankly i most dissapointed with what has been called (by too many reviewers) a great board.
First off i see very little changes taking place with each bios update, of which does not seem to happen regularly at all. (lets face it no board is perfect especially the Nforce 4 range from MSI for Intel CPU's).
Secondly overclocking a Pentium D 830, which i may add should be capable of overclocking very well on an Intel Nforce board, can barley reach 3.4 Ghz (i know its mobo issue as the CPU is water cooled and overclocks to way beyond 3.7 on an 955X board).
Thirdly the North bridge fan was poorly stuck on my motherboard in that on installing my motherboard into my case it popped off like the lid of a pringles tub by a slight movement of my hand  .
And last but least... why does the MSI P4N diamond motherboard not support Intels latest 65nm CPU's when ASUS's and Gigabyte's Nforce 4 motherboards work well with the Pentium D and the 65nm range of Intel CPU's. Upon also reading about the next gen of Intel CPU's the Conroe, the 975X motherboards will support the future CPU via a bios update and it has been said that the same is likely to happen for the Nforce 4 range... however once again due to the lack of support for the MSI P4N diamond by MSI i believe all of us owners of this pathetic (an over statement really but its going to be that way if MSI keeps this up) over hyped motherboard will get a simple NO in the CPU support table for the next gen range of CPU's.

Where did you get the information regarding the MSI P4N diamond's release date?
Are you in the United Kingdom? As it was released at the same time as the other Nforce 4 boards here (i was on the edge of my seat waiting for the Nforce boards to be released on overclockers.co.uk for sale) In the end though i bought my mothreboard in October, which is a good few weeks after release.
Is there any kind of SLI 32 on MSI's plans? this is what worries me as they have made a move in the 975X department but have not made any further developmentes in the Nforce range for Intel, which to the average joe kind of indicates loss of intrest in this field from the company.
I am overall pleased with my motherboard, when using a single core CPU, as overclocking was a sheer joy, but as soon as the dual core CPU went in the mothreboard behaves like a drunk man coming from a pub. I am aware that the Nforce 4 chipsets struggle with the dual core CPU's but surely Nvidia were informed by Intel about the dual core CPU's being released in the future.

  • Why does iMac (Mid 2012) not support Jumbo Frames?

Why is it not possible to change MTU size to more than 1500? Buying such a high quality product, I would expect that it supports jumbo frames!
My NAS supports jumbo frames, the Air Port Extreme does but a brand new iMac doesn't???
Is there any patch or somethin to fix this?
    Thanks!!!

    Hi Marcus,
I find conflicting info on this...
The Ethernet port supports the configuration of Ethernet frames larger than 1,500 MTU (Maximum Transmission Unit).
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4619
Can anyone confirm if the new 2011 imacs already support jumbo frames? I heard it now uses a new broadcom ethernet chip that now supports jumbo frames on the 21 inch model. They removed jumbo frames support in the previous i5 and i7 models...
Hmm, I remember that the iFix tear down revealed that the 2011 iMacs had a Broadcom BCM57765B0KMLG Eithernet chip. (just go to the page and if you are using safari/firefox press command + F and type "Broadcom" to jump to that particular)
    http://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/iMac-...eardown/5485/2
so I did a little googling and found out that:
    http://www.broadcom.com/products/Eth...lient/BCM57765
    Integrated 10/100/1000BASE-T transceiver with:
    - 10/100/1000BASE-T triple-speed MAC
    - Compliant with IEEE standards
    - Compliant with IEEE 802.3az draft standard for Energy Efficient Ethernet™ (EEE)
    - State-of-the-art physical layer interface that exceeds IEEE requirements
    - Jumbo frame support with up to 9.6 KB frame size
    - EthernetAV protocols with IEEE 802.1AS, 1588-2008, IEEE P802.1Qat and IEEE P802.1Qav support
So it should support Jumbo Frames.

  • Why does AMDS (apple mobile device support) not install?

I run iTunes on a new (3 months old) Windows 7 PC using version 10.6 (64-bit) of iTunes.  I have been using iTunes for many years (or various machines) without any problems.  Recently iTunes stopped working correctly.... I got numerous error messages when loading the software, and could not sync any of my devices.  I went through every tutorial/help/troubleshooting I could find and nothing worked.  I had to restort to the "last resort" option of completely removing iTunes (which I did by carefully following all of the steps in the Apple Support) and reinstall iTunes.  After reinstalling and pluggin my iPhone or iPod Touch I get a message saying, "This iPhone/iPod cannot be used because the required software is not installed.  Run the iTunes installer to remove iTunes, then install the 64-bit version of iTunes."
Again, I went through every tutorial/help/support/troubleshooting option and discovered that AMDS (apple mobile device support) is missing.  None of the support articles addresses this issue (only how to turn it on, locate files on your computer, etc.) but I tried them all anyway.  Nothing worked.  I removed an reinstalled iTunes 3 more times.  No change.  AMDS is still not there.  It does not even exist on my system anywhere.  It doesn't seem to be downloading at all.  I contacted customer support and was just given links to all of the troubleshooting articles I had already tried.
I have spent many hours on this and I'm getting no where.  Please help!

  • HT204057 Why does Time Machine no longer support external hard drives connected to an Airport Extreme base station?

I'm pretty sure that upto a few months ago I had a hard disk connected via USB to my Airport Extreme and I was able to backup all the computers on my home network. However, somehow over the last few months this had stopped happening. I am not able to select my network disks for time machine backup.
There is a very unhelpful sentence on Apple's website which simply says it does not allow backup to hard disks connected to Airport Extreme via USB. Does anyone know why this is? Is there a way around this? Can I connect a drive to my desktop computer and have other computers backup through the network to that?

  • Why does New Gen sbRIO not support Scan Engine?

The 'New Gen' sbRIO's use the LX25 and LX45 FPGA and it seems that none of them support the scan engine.  cRIO's that use the same FPGA do support the scan engine.  Is it just a RIO driver issue?  If so when will this be resolved?

    Hi sachsm,
I was told initially that it is a performance issue, but after doing some extra research I have found that it cannot be the case.  You are right that the cRIOs that have the LX25 and LX45 FPGAs support the scan engine, so the answer lies outside the bounds of performance requirements.  I spoke with some of our more senior engineers, who believe that R&D has phased out scan engine support for the newer sbRIOs based on the majority use cases for which they are deployed.  Notice on the product pages for these devices that only OEM quantities are available for purchase, meaning that most of our customers for these are companies producing many units, and who generally desire to use the FPGA interface (not the Scan Interface).  Each sbRIO that currently supports the Scan Interface (older models) has a custom scan engine bitfile that is written to the FPGA, and I guess someone on the development side of things decided that it wasn't worth the effort to write scan engine bitfiles for these new models.  There is no indication that these will be supported by the scan interface in the future.
cRIO, on the other hand, is intended to have custom and reconfigurable module setups, and thus will always require the scan engine for those who wish to use the real-time functionality without having to deal with the FPGA interface.
I hope that this clears up some of the confusion!

  • Why does BEA recommend not using JMS-backed webservices?

    Hi,
I guess the title says it all. In WebLogic 8.1, I noticed a couple of times
in the docs they say things like:
" BEA recommends that you implement your Web Service operation with only a
stateless session EJB or a Java class, and not with a JMS consumer or
    producer. ".
Yet no explanation is given. Can anybody tell me why BEA doesn't recommend
    them?
    Thanks
    Jon

    Couple of reasons:
    1. JAX-RPC or JSR-109 (J2EE 1.4) do not cover
    JMS queues as backend component.
    2. It is pretty easy to write a java class or SLSB that
looks up the queue and post data to it.
    3. Queue based web services typically expose one
method in wsdl: post(Object data). Once the queue
is wrapped, the service can have explicit contract:
    like sendMeDoc( Foo foo)

  • Why does my mac no longer support Windows 8?

So, about 2 years ago, I used BootCamp to partition my macbook (13-in mid-2010). I had Windows 8 installed on the partition, and it was working fine. I upgraded to Windows 8.1 and began experiencing problems, so I decided to start over with Windows 8. The only problem is that when I closed out that partition and started a new one, BootCamp informed me that my mac only supports Windows 7, despite having had Windows 8 installed on there just hours before. What happened to make my mac stop supporting 8, and how can I fix this?

You used an earlier version of Bootcamp Assistant to install Windows. What is the current version of BC Assistant on your machine?

  • Why does the DVD player say "supported disc not available?"

So, regular DVDs will play and are recognized on my Macbook Pro, but I'm trying to play a recordings DVD (for a music literature class) and the DVD player says "supported disc not available." The DVD is supposed to work on my operating system since it's the newest one, but I don't know how to fix the problem! Please help!
    Thanks!

I'm having the same problem lately.  I have a mid 2010 21.5" iMac with an internal SuperDrive running Yosemite.  I tried putting in "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes" and "The Giver" rented from RedBox.  Both spin sputter for a bit and then eject the disk back out.  So, it never mounts and no software (Finder, Disk Utility, DVD Player) ever gets a chance to see it.  Both play fine in a 15 year old DVD player, and my purchased copy of "The Dark Knight" mounts just fine in the iMac.  So, I have to assume that something is being done to the DVD's that rental companies are given to prevent them from mounting or something.
Not having any luck on Google trying to confirm that.
I guess I need to amend this.  Both DVD's play fine in a early 2011 13" Macbook Pro with the internal SuperDrive.  It's running Mavericks still and has a "MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-8A8".  The iMac has a "OPTIARC DVD RW AD-5680H".  Not sure if it's the drive, the OS, or what (although I will say I'm fairly certain I was having this problem on the iMac before Yosemite, so it's probably not the OS).
