Why does Calendar take up so much space and why can't I add events or sync?

Since I updated to ios7, my calendar hasn't worked at all. It used to sync with my Google calendar. Now I can't see any events in my calendar. The + sign to add an event is always greyed out so I can't add events. And something I've just noticed is that Calendar takes up 473 MB of space on my phone, making it one of the biggest users of space. (This might be related. If I search for an event in my calendar, it shows a long long long list of events that all say "New Event" that are scheduled to last all day. I can't delete these. It says they are assigned to "Untitled Calendar."
I've tried all sorts of combinations of turning on and off syncing calendars with Google and with iCloud. I can't detect any change. (My Mavericks calendar works just fine and syncs with Google.)

See how much storage you've used on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch
If your device is near its capacity or you get an alert that your storage is full, you can remove some of your less used content to make room for more.
View storage usage on your iOS device
Tap Settings > General > Usage > Manage Storage to see the amount of space each app and its content takes on your device.
Tap an app for more detailed information about its usage.
Depending on the app, you might be able to delete some of the app's content, or delete the app and all of its content.

When you connect your device and select it in iTunes, you'll see your usage by content type:

iTunes displays how much space the selected songs, videos, audiobooks, and apps use in the status bar on the bottom of the screen. You can also see this information by selecting an item and then choosing File > Get Info. The size is available in the Summary tab.
You can transfer or sync content to your computer from your device. If you want to remove certain types of content from your device, learn how to manually manage content using iTunes.

I got an iPhone 5s 16 GB at the end of June 2014. I keep running out of memory and when I recently plugged my phone into iTunes, I noticed that "other" is taking up around 3 GB of space. I know the usual delete pictures and browsing history spiel, and I've done it all. People also say that Settings>General>Usage>Manage Storage is a good way to tell what is taking up space, but I went there and manually added all of the numbers and they only add up to 8.6 GB vs the 11.6 that my phone says is occupied, leaving an extra 3 GB unaccounted for and confirming my suspicions that "other" is not included in this. People keep telling me it's the operating system but isn't that already taken out of the original 16 GB and why you really only have 12 GB of storage to begin with? As I was looking through different forums and discussions, people kept saying to restore the iPhone from the iTunes backup and I am wondering if that would actually work...does anyone have experience with this? (Also would this delete my apps and music as well? I'm not very familiar with the restore from backup and could not really find any good information on it.) Do I just have to live with "other" eating up this much space on my phone? I've had iPods and I have an iPad, and I've never had this problem. Any help at all would be very appreciated, as this is very frustrating. Thanks.

That is normal size for others.. mine is around 2 GB.

I have a 16GB iPhone 4s and currently I have around 100MB left. It says my photos take up 6.34 GB I really am unsure how because I only have 252 pictures on my phone (not including the 5 photos I've on my Photo Stream).Why does it take up so much space?

I have less than a GB of apps and just over a GB with Other... To be fair I have around 22 videos which people have previously said in the past is my problem but I still can't see how because in total they all add up to 35.59... I've had a go deleting absolutely everything (including apps, photos, texts, history on the phone, websites etc) and still my phone is out of memory. my sister has about 200 photos and on her phone it only takes up around 3GB ?
If anyone has any suggestions or ideas it would be appreciated...
(I am very reluctant to putting all my photos on my computer and deleting them off of my phone at the moment because I don't trust they're safe incase one day my laptop is wiped or something).

Make a backup of your laptops hard drive to an external hard drive or a thumb drive.
Videos take up a lot of memory. One second of videos is like dozens of pictures. How much time, in total minutes & seconds, do all 22 of these videos add up to?

Actually "other" is app data, Safari Bookmarks, calendar entries, text messages, notes, Safari History, email messages and things like that - stuff associated with apps - but not the apps themselves or any other media.
Your "other" should be nowhere near 6.7 GB. You had a corrupt sync. You can try restarting, the iPad, rebooting it by holding down on the home and sleep buttons at the same time until the Apple logo appears or unsync all photos and music and then resync all photos and music.
However, many times you need to restore the device to factory settings and then restore from a backup in order to reduce that bloated size. That should probably be no more than 1 GB and more likely between 200 and 750 MB in total size.

I have an iPhone 5, 16 gigs. I have 174 photos and 22 videos and it says that the photos take up 3.6g of my memory... My friend has over 2k photos and hers is at 4gigs. Import the photos to your computer, then sync them back with iTunes. The photos will be reduced in size and quality to fit on the iPhone without taking as much space as the original pictures.
Also make sure not to use HDR mode if you do not need that feature.
After you import your photos from Camera Roll or Saved Photos, you can use iTunes to sync them back to your device.

That crash appears to be casued by the Facebook plug-in.
Create a new account (systempreferences -> accounts or Users & Groups on 10.7 and 10.8), make a new Library in that account, import some shots and see if the problem is repeated there. If it is, then a re-install of the app might be indicated. If it's not, then it's likely the app is okay and the problem is something in the main account.

I do not have many messages but my iphone 5s says messages take up 4.6GB of space. When comparing with friends who have many more message, less than 1 GB is being used on their phones. Why are mine taking up so much space and how do I correct that?

I do not have that many messages on my new iPhone 5s (maybe about 15 conversations and only one or two going back a little ways) yet when I go to Settings, Usage it shows that my messages are taking up 4.6GB of space. I found a post with this solution that worked for me - .Do a backup, then download ibackupbot. It lets you look into the contents of that backup. Look in system files>mediadomain>library>sms>attachments. I found a ton of huge files related to long deleted texts. ibackupbot let me delete all that old crap. I then restored the phone with that now modifec backup and Bingo! freed up 9 GB. No problems.
But note, if you are not technically inclined you probaly don't want to be digging around and deleting back up files. You delete the wrong thing and you could jack up your phone badly. Be careful.

Why is my iMovie taking up so much space and how can I get my data back?

For some reason, unknown to me, my imovie app is taking up 6.5GB of my data. I have three, small (less than five minute) videos and I am wondering how to get rid of whatever is taking up so much space and what could possibly be filling up my ipad. It is strange because a four hour movie takes up only 3GB and fifteen minutes of video takes up over 6. Something is definitely not right. I just want to know how to get rid of whatever is taking up so much data while keeping my files in tact.

Had the same problem and read a few posts. Easiest fix is delete and reinstall imovie. Clears out all the data that imovie takes up by recreating temp files which you can't seem to delete when you upload videos to YouTube

How do I remove the Icons next to each bookmark on the bookmark toolbar? They take up too much space and all the bookmarks I need on the toolbar dont show up.

On my bookmarks toolbar, each bookmark has the associated webpage icon next to it. I would like to remove those icons, as they take up too much space.

The icons, if you are familiar with them or they are obvious, take up less space than the words. You can abbreviate the names down to next to nothing or even nothing.
To save space and help organization you can group bookmarks into folders on your Bookmarks toolbar.

Why does it take me so many tries before I can get the amber and/ or green light to come on, on my MagSafe power adapter?

I have been having a problem for a little while now, and I have decided to overlook it for the most part. However, it is really starting to get on my nerves. The issue I don't believe is with the MacBook Pro itself, however with the MagSafe power adapter. The adapter itself is in great condition, it is brand new, but when I attach it to the computer, the computer reads that it is there, as it shows it is charging or is charged as shown by the battery indicator in the top right of the OS X toolbar. However, the amber and/ or green light doesn't come on, right away - the first time - most of the time, on the adapter head itself. I usually have to unplug it and plug it back in multiple times before I get a light to come on. I have tried to clean the adapter itself, and the MagSafe port on the computer, but that seems to only help for a short amount of time, and it doesn't look real dirty, or like any pins are stuck on the adapter. I have also tried other outlets, but that doesn't seem to help, so I don't think I am getting dirty power.

Unfortunately, it *could* be the computer. And it could be the adapter. Aside from trying Resetting the System Management Controller there's not much you can do except taking it in for testing.

Why does it take so long to update and then tell me after it's done that it failed? 5 hours.

I processed the latest update and after 5 hours, it said "done." When I unplugged, though, I was informed that it failed to backup. I plugged it back in and the process started from scratch. Why wouldn't it inform me that it wasn't working early on? Frustrated per the usual.

You just happened to run into an bug produced by your Apple TV and your Internet connection. Even though they don't want you to switch off they device disconnect your Apple TV from your power chord. After our last storm (the electricity went out without shutting down), It now takes more than 10min for my Power Mac G4 OSX 10.5.7 to boot up on turn on. Reboot is the same. When i put her to sleep, she never wakes up. I have to shut down and WAIT. Is there a know fix for this?

Could be many things, we should start with this...
"Try Disk Utility
1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
3. Click the First Aid tab.
4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
5. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."

Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)

Why does Dreamweaver force an image sub-directory, and how can I stop that behaviour?

This is from a person (me) who has made lots of web pages, but doesn't use sub-directories, so you might decide I am unsophisticated. So be it. I do not use sub-directories, but every time I open one of my web pages, Dreamweaver decides that all of my images are supposed to be in sub-directories. Then I have to go through all the images on the page and delete the sub-directories. Luckily, I usually don't have a lot of images on my pages. Unpleasantly, it takes time and I have to do it EVERY TIME I MODIFY ANY PAGE. It doesn't remember my preference.
Is there any way to stop this behaviour?
So far, I have looked in every options and preferences screen that I can find. I have also searched on "directories" and "images" and combinations. I cannot find anything.
OBTW, I do not use CSS for these pages at all. They were made before CSS and they are mainly content and links to files, so I am not planning on changing this unless there are strong arguments to the contrary.

Are you saying that merely opening a file causes DW to move your images?
