Why does canvas size increase after shadow applied to image?

PE5 - Why does the canvas size of my project increase every time I apply drop-down shadow to a photo layer? I can re-size the canvas with no problem, but it keeps "growing" with each time I apply the effect. Photos are not near the margin of the canvas.

Not sure what you mean... it is a transparent 11x4 canvas and the layer above it contains an image that is 1 inch high ...other layers with the same size images are also present, but none are locked or "merged" (forgot the term used with PE) with the canvas...

Why does my ping increase after a few minutes of resetting AirPort?

I connect various phones and my Macbook Air to WIFI using my AirPort Express. I have been plagued with WIFI and ISP problems and recently upgraded my modem to try and fix this issue that persists to this day. I feel like I have narrowed down the problem to my AirPort Express.
After resetting my Airport everything appears to be running smoothly. My download/upload speeds are adequate, I have a very strong WIFI signal, all is well. When I go to play online games I notice an increase in my ping within 10 minutes of resetting my Airport. It happens fairly abruptly - it is not an incremental change. For example I am usually jumping from ~100ms to ~450ms. This happens on multiple servers and can't be tied to one host.
After resetting my AirPort my ping goes back down to normal but jumps up after a few moments. I have my Arris modem set to bridge, and I've tried connecting to the 5GHz channel through the router and there doesn't seem to be any difference.
This problem started a month or so ago. The AirPort has worked absolutely perfectly for a couple of years now. It is really only the ping in online games that seem to be effected – my download/upload speeds are running well which has me stumped.

Wireless is extraordinarily complicated. It is more a wonder that it works that doesn't.
Two follow up questions. First, I have taken both the phones in the household off wifi as well as my Roku and that didn't make any noticeable differences.
It is worth a try.. it is wireless after all.. voodoo in another medium.
your answer doesn't really help with two issues. My computer used to connect with no ping increase before this sudden change and why does this change start happening after a few moments of clarity and then skyrocketing pings?
How old is your Express? Anything more than 3 years can suffer due to build quality.. apple is no different to other brands now. A sudden change can indicate poor internals.
7.6.4 is lousy firmware.. test with 7.6.1 if that is possible. (newest ones may not downgrade)
I personally have heaps of Extreme and TC but avoid the express.. it is expensive for what it is.. a very low end wireless AP that can double up as a router at a pinch.
If you have an old Express that you upgraded the firmware.. you may not have noticed the upgrade coincided with the poor pings.. but it can happen.
Also Mavericks.. if you upgrade installed mavericks it can have dire effects on the wireless.. even the latest update to Mavericks has been causing wireless issues. Mavericks and networking is somewhat akin to tin cans and wet string. With the string fraying.
So reset to factory.
Downgrade the firmware.. then reset to factory a second time..
Test it with short names, no spaces and pure alphanumeric.. NOT apple names.. since mavericks changed to SMB networking from AFP in previous versions.
Downgrade firmware by holding down the option key whilst you select version number. Pick from the list that will appear.
Test close to the Express..
Test with no wireless security.. remember it is a test.
Run the wireless diagnostics on the computer to see if it shows anything.

The reason for increase in ping times, can be link speeds dropping, WMM failing.. as it seems to .. or just plain old bad drivers.
I have made huge improvements in things like latency in routers that allow actual settings on the wireless to be changed.. packet size in particular.. one serious issue here is Apple have not given us access to any settings.. in airport particularly but even in the Mac.. this stuff is hidden from end users.

Why does memory usage increase after RAM upgrade

I upgraded my MBP RAM from 4GB to 8GB. I'm not running any additional applications, so I expected machine's RAM usage to remain the same as it was before upgrade.
However, my RAM usage has increased to 4.6 GB. Why does my machine need more RAM now for the same lot of programs?

Why are frame sizes increasing after editing with Nik plug-ins?

I’m using the Nik Collection of plug-ins with Aperture, and have discovered that the frame size of the resulting edits always end up larger than the original - sometimes much larger.
The original image starts as 4592 x 3448 but after editing, the longest side of the resulting image is typically over 5000, 6000 or even 7000 pixels.
I recently worked on a cropped image that started at 4138 x 2759 and ended up at 7361 x 4908, after editing with a combination of Dfine, Viveza, Color Efex + Silver Efex. If I export a version during the editing process, and then carry out futher editing, the frame size increases again.
I’m exporting from Aperture using the TIFF - Original Size (16 bit) setting.
Can anyone tell me what’s going on here? I’m concerned that the quality of the images is being compromised by the enlargement.
I'm using the latest set of Nik plug-ins, with Aperture 3.2.4 on a MBP running 10.6.8

In order to open Aperture in 32-bit mode by default you can right-click on the application icon, select "Get Info" and check the box marked "Open In 32-bit Mode" (or you can continue to run it by default in 64-bit mode and just get forced to re-open the app anytime you need to use plug-ins that can only run in 32-bit mode).

Why does photo size increase on iPod?

This has been asked before, but the questions end up archived before anyone can give any answers...
I have a folder of pictures on my computer that totals 1GB. When I sync this folder to my iPod, it takes up 3.5GB according to the "photo" section of the bar.
Seriously, this makes no sense whatsover. Is it converting my JPEGs into high-res PNGs or something? If so, why on Earth would it do that for an iPod when it doesn't need to be so huge? It should be converting them DOWN not UP.
What's the deal?

Actually I found the reason. They do convert the photos into 640x480 Hi-Quality BMPs so that when you are navigating with you finger (swish, swish, swish) there is very little to no load time.
I sent feeback asking them, especially with faster CPUs now in more recent iPods, to please make this conversion OPTIONAL so that those of us who don't mind a bit of load time don't have this upconversion.

Why does RAW become unresponsive after 1 or 2 images?

All seems fine but controls have no effect until the program is shut and re-opened.

I've experienced something similar, but not sure it's exactly that.
With many images open and proceeding one-by-one, if I want to target another thumbnail, it gets stuck on the thumbnail I'm on and won't release it to go on to another. If I wait a little while, it will release it and I can go on to other images. It just gets stuck for a few seconds. It doesn't happen every time, but it's happened several times. The only thing I noticed is that applying stars ratings to thumbnails seems to be a sticking point--but I'm not sure--maybe that's just the last thing I do before going on.
I haven't tried to fool with the actual controls in the interface during this temporary lock up--it's possible that they, too, are frozen when the thumbnail navigation locks up. I'll check if this happens again.

Ok, one more quick question if you don't mind..
How come even though I set my canvas size at 15" x 13"...
when I zoom to 100% it's waaay too big to even fit on my screen,
appearing maybe 3' x 4' ...?
I'm confused about what canvas sizes I should be using
in designing a standard webpage background or an image for a Youtube video..
...and on that note, is there a way to shrink the canvas while having all your layers
proportionately adjust their contents to the new canvas size?

Index size increased after import

hi i mentioned already the index creation problem when i am trying to create index using script after import of table.So droped the table and created table using script and index also without data,then i started to import at tablelevel with indexes=n then ia m importing data from the production database.
The size of the 2 indexes in production is 750 and 1200 mb each in test db both index size increased around double 1200 and 1700 mb each.I used same script in both db.Why this is increased here i took the export with compress=y full database export.Why the index size increased? when i created the index with initial extent and next extent size respective 800 and 100 mb.Whether is it the reason?

i gave initial 1000 and next 100 for the index size around 1.1 gb in production but here in test why this became around 1.7 gb,eventhough the pct increase is 50 it should come around 1.3 maximum.Whether it will give any performance problem

If so, contact your wireless carrier. That's a cellular connection issue.
