Why does daylight white balance add +10 to tint?

Everytime I take a picture outside, import it into lightroom, and select daylight white balance, +10 is added to the tint and all my pictures have a reddish tint to them? I know I can just change the tint back to 0, but I was just wondering why they would do this? What benefit does it have? And can this setting be adjusted?

Daylight is a fabulous earthy warm colour in California, in Cape Town and much of the Western Cape of South Africa, Australia is a little more reddy and the UK is very blue, great that a preset reckons that all these are the same!
I'm talking from a RAW perspective here, I find JPEG just cant cope with selecting auto and then hoping to rescue colour balance (IMHO)
I find for much of my landscape and arctitectural photography that I click daylight, look at it, click auto, look at that and then pick and choose, usually winding down the magenta close to zero as any shot with green life and foliage often look better with a tiny bit more green in them. However, any people shots need to be looked at as green people look like zombies, and the magenta can be a little more kind - certainly on white faces.
So, use it carefully and sometimes the auto is reasonable, or a good place to tweak the magenta and warmth.

Thanks Rob. I used two Mark III bodies on a job. One had just been sent back from being repaired by Canon and apparently they reset everything. I didn't even check the file type because I only ever shoot RAW.

Lightroom: Why does auto white balance no longer work after changing the camera calibration profile?

I'm using NEF raw files from Nikon.
Lets say for example I import a NEF file into Lightroom (v4) and click on 'auto' for white balance. The white balance in the image is adjusted correctly (somewhat). However, if I then change the camera profile (in the camera calibration section) from 'adobe standard' to 'camera standard' then the white balance in the image becomes very wrong. I then have to set the white balance back to 'as shot' and correct it manually instead.
Why would 'auto white balance' no longer work just because I change the profile from 'adobe standard' to 'camera standard'?
Any ideas?

Hello. I am having a little problem with the white balance color picker. I shoot with a Canon 5D and I always start by shooting a WhiBal card. Prior to using the white balance tool I have values of R:196 G:196 B:187 on the WhiBal card itself. Since the Auto WB setting is on in the camera it looks pretty good but a little too yellow. You'd think that the white balance tool would normalize things. Instead it goes to R:196 G:196 B:207! Everything immediately looks too blue. Aperture 1.0 did a great job 1.1 not so good. I read elsewhere about a bug, am I getting bit by it?

Yes Joshua, there is a Santa Claus and you are getting bit by the color temperature bug. Evidently, according to Apple, code that had been totally fixed in the 1.1 release was broken again just before deployment. Unfortunately, no one noticed until it was in users' hands.
According to Joe Schorr, Aperture Product Manager, "they are all over it". Expect it to be rectified in 1.1.1, which is promised as soon as possible.

Why does the new update add a jquery-2.0.3.min.js file?

So I updated adobe edge and instead of getting improvements I got problems. Whenever I publish my file it ads a jquery-2.0.3.min.js file that is so heavy that now my file is more 60kb.
My file used to be 17kb.
How can I change the publish settings so that I only have 3 javascript files= edge.js, edgeActions.js, and an edgePreload.js

The old runtime used to depend on jQuery, however the new one does not. That's why on upgrade, jQuery is added as a dependency in the upgraded project as it might be used in the scripts. There are two options available:
1. If you are not really using jQuery, then you can delete jQuery from the scripts section, preview and test the movie and publish. It will not have any jQuery dependency in this case. Please note that the new runtime has the support for basic selectors and some basic jQuery APIs (Adobe Edge Animate CC JavaScript API), if your use of jQuery is limited to these, then also you can get rid of jQuery dependency from the upgraded project.
2. If you are using jQuery, then you have the option of using jQuery from the CDN. You can remove the local jQuery dependency and add a dependency by specifying a CDN URL for jQuery. We are looking for options to make this flow easier.

Why does my current balance no longer show up on my prepaid phone?

I just switched from a Samsung flip phone to the LG Cosmos. Now the balance will not update on the home screen. When I called into Verizon they tell me that they do not offer that feature anymore. I find this hard to believe as it was working fine until just 2 weeks ago. So, does anyone have any idea of what is going on? Is my phone screwed up, or did Verzion really kill the balance feature on the prepaid phones?

Why does my white macbook keep on producing new cracks?

I have had my white macbook for just over a year now, I have never once dropped it. When I take it to school I put it in a sleeve thing. I'm really careful but I have been noticing that cracks are appearing. There is one at the top right where a little bit of plastic came off... same problem with where you rest your hands.
There are also lots around the fan and the bottom.
Does apple cover these charges?? What should i do, it looks ugly

Why does black/white print with magenta hue?

When I print black/white greyscale in Adobe Reader or Acrobat, some documents print with ghost text that appears in a light magenta. This ghost text is staggered to the bottom right of the black text.
I'm printing from Mac OS X 10.8.4, Adobe Reader 11.0.03 using an HP LaserJet 1525nw.
The left side of the image is a screen capture from the PDF and printed. The right side printed directly from the PDF.
Any ideas why this happens?

Sorry - I was able to find out how to do color calibrate. It is supposed to print a page but never did. I tried it twice. Not sure if it actually did anything. But results are the same with printing.
The printer is very low on the three color cartridges, which I don't use. It is at normal capacity on black. Even though I'm selecting to print only black/white in Reader, could the low status on the color cartridges be causes this pink hue?
I did try a pure PDF document (one that isn't a scanned print page). It printed without issue. As I mentioned above, there is something about a scanned in printed page, which causes this pink hue issue.

Why does Logic Pro 9 add 0.3s silence at start of all my tracks when I "export all tracks as audio files"?

OK - when I "export all tracks as audio files" it works fine - I get a load of exported tracks (annoyingly with the stupid "_bip" prefix at the end).
But I find that they all have about 0.3s silence inserted at the start. WHY??!!!
I checked, and on the timeline all the tracks start with their first note at the beginning of the track so there is no silence in the arrangement. But still this silence on export.
This Logic feature is so badly designed - why can't it do the simplest things as expected.

You don't fully understand how Logic's audio engine and buffering scheme works... not that anyone fully does except the programmers. Basically your above statement is incorrect, as some plugins have built-in-latency and others don't, but that's not the complete picture. The problem is a combination of a plugin's built-in-latency and how Logic buffers data. Logic deactivates the audio engine when stopped, all plugins and software instruments become deactivated including the ability to load or purge data buffers with the exception of a software instrument or audio track that is selected for "live" input.
(Look up Plug-in-Latency Compensation in the manual for a full explation of the choices available)
I won't disagree with you about the software design, however, rather than flawed I tend to think of it as antiquated. The positive side of this is extremely low processor use and the ability to design templates with all plugins and software instruments loaded and ready to start a new project. The downside most Logic users are familiar with... unexpected overloads in the middle of a project when a approaching a region that makes use of processor intensive plugins, Loops that don't match up perfectly when starting a project from bar 1 and/or missing notes at the beginning of MIDI loop if starting at bar 1.... plus a half dozen other anomalies related to Logic's "efficient" audio engine. The efficiency concept made sense back when computers didn't have enough power to handle active or semi-active plugins, seems it causes more problems than not these days.

Why does the white menu bar stay when in full screen?

Shortly after up grading to 3.4.1 this stated to happen:
1. I open App, not in full screen
2. press the "f" key, it's takes me to full screen mode but the white Aperture menu bar remains at the top, hideing adjustments.
3. I press the "f" key to get out of full screen & I loose both full screen & the "regular" viewer.
Not sure what's going on....by the way, it sometimes functions without this problem.
Any thoughts out there?

Chrome may somehow be set to run in full-screen mode. I don't use Chrome so can't check its settings options, but try hitting ESC when Chrome is doing this and see if you get the menubar and Dock to reappear.

Reinstalls every time. As well as this irritation why is there no filter in the Add-ons site to differentiate between what's compatible with CC2014 and other add-ons built for earlier iterations of Creative Cloud. Surely there should be?

Why does the white welcome screen come up after I restore a backup.

I am currently managing 60 iPads at a K-12 school through apple Configurator, since iOS 7.0.2, whenever I create a backup and then try to restore all the iPads to that backup at least 90% of them end up showing the white welcome screen and I have manually go through each one and go through the welcome screen. Any suggestions on why this is happening and how to eliminate this issue?

I have been having this issue. It only happened when the new IOS was deployed. I manage 10 iPads at a public library and I learned a lot, though I am not really certain of any of this. I will share a little of what worked for me.
1. My iPads have updated to the new IOS.
2. When that happened, the backup of my bookmarks, etc. will not restore.
3. I tried to set the IOS to never update, and Configurator would not restore.
4. All those white screened iPads probably need to be re-set-up as their own user. like [email protected], [email protected], etc. They need their own password, etc. I say "probably" because I keep trying to share the same username even though I know I'll never be able to install VPP apps for them like that and plan to re-assign apple IDs to each.
5. Today I get Error code 4 on my Configurator and the backup will not work, so my bookmarks are "flushed" and I don't know how I'll restore them. I may submit and create apple IDs for each one today.
6. It was possible at one point to go through the setup screens on one, decline to set up "Find my iPhone" and then make a backup of it. Restore the new backup to all iPads, then re-set them up as their own machines, save a backup for each individual one, then setup Find my iPhone. THEN, re-save a new backup of each individual one. That worked for me really great until yesterday when I get this Error Code 4.
7. I really liked having them all share an apple ID because when I log into iCloud.com, I can see all iPads on one map.
I may check in with my result since it seems there is no reall official support for Error Code 4 yet.

Why does i-tunes 8 add info???

i recently updated my i-tunes to v.8. i never had this problem prior to the update and since then i keep having the same problem.
when i play a song, itunes adds information which i have deleted (such as comments, track numbers, year, etc).
ordinarily, this wouldn't be a problem, but my virtual dj program runs off the music i have in my itunes. so everytime the info is "added" it knocks my cue points & info from virtual dj. resulting in the song being recognised as a new file.
i've gone into the preferences section of itunes & unchecked the "keep itunes folder organised". i also delete the info from the properties in the song file.
please, someone tell me where it's gone wrong.

Make sure you have full Read/Write permissions the songs and the folders they are in and they are not marked Read Only.

Why does my encoded DVD adds a zoom-in and a delay wherever the imported asset has a cross-dissolve?

Still a rank amateur, and a frustrated one because the Encoder when it burns a DVD for me (with no bells or whistles) adds a zoom-in to the cross dissolves that perform very happily in my cs5 sequence and in my H264.
When I burn a DVD from an imported sequence (or from an imported H264), the resulting DVD upon playback actually expands the viewing rectangle briefly which looks like a zoom out and then starts my zoom-in late.
