Why does display take longer to sleep in Yosemite?

Just wondering if anyone else has run into this problem. In Mac OS X Mavericks, whenever I slept the display, it turned off instantly. Now it dims slowly.
Is this normal. That's a shame if it is. I preferred how the screen went black instantly in Mavericks to how it fades to black now.
Why was that changed?
Also, sometimes when I try to reawaken the screen, I get nothing but a black screen and the pointer on it. I sometimes have to restart the computer.
Running Yosemite on an iMac 3.4 GHz Intel Core i7 with 32 GB of RAM with 200GB of hard drive space still available.

Thank you for replying Deyadissa. But is it normal for the display to slowly dim when you select "sleep" monitor?
Before Yosemite it turned off instantly when I put it to sleep? Now it feels slow in that respect.
I mean why a slow dim when before it shut off instantly?

  • Why does it take longer to Save with Layers v. no Layers?

I've noticed that file save times go way up even with just 1 layer (plus Background) compared to saving with no layers. "Flat" PSDs save very fast, whether to my SSD boot drive, or to my spinny work drive. Is this normal? And can anyone tell me why?
My scratch disc is on my SSD boot drive. Windows 7 Ultimate fully updated. I have 30GB of RAM and my average file size (open) is around 400MB. I do have the compatibility turned on (otherwise Lightroom doesn't like it), and compression. I understand those will add more time. But why so much more than a "flat" PSD?

Thanks. I need to rephrase my subject line I guess...
Obviously, additional layers will take longer to save, because, like you said, each layers is like another image (sorta). HOWEVER, the save time seems to increase EXPONENTIALLY just by adding 1 layer.
    Here's a specific example...
I'm working on a 7360 x 4912 image which Photoshop says is 206.9M. It takes less than 2 seconds to save the PSD.
I clicked Ctrl+J to copy the Background layer to a new layer. Now there's the Background layer, plus Layer 1, and now Photoshop tells me it's 206.9M/413.7M. Now it takes 34 seconds to save the PSD!
So it's not just double, it takes 17x longer!!! Why so much longer?

  • With track locking why does it take longer to --

1.) With track locking, why does it say so much longer to "Save As" and to create bakcup copies of songs?
2.) If after I lock tracks to improve performance can I unlock them for the purpose of faster "Save As" and copies?

I found from my experience that if one deletes the freeze files to save space but does not unlock the tracks GB will not search for the files upon opening but rather will recreate the locked tracks after you click "Play".
I just wanted to clarify that. I didn't want anyone to think GB will open a tune and then begin a search right away. It won't happen until you click play.
Heres my reasoning for leaving the tracks locked and deleting the freeze tracks and not unlocking them before hand.
If I leave the tracks locked and then delete the files I don't have to remember later which tracks I wanted locked and which ones I did not want locked. All I need to do is open the file and click play. Its actually more convenient. If you unlock the tracks first then delete the files you have to go back later and relock the ones you wanted. TO me thats a much easier way to remember things.
I agree with you whole heartily when it comes to "Save As Archive". Its the only way to save.
"Save" And "Save As" only creates a pointer to your files in and from the "Project Data" file. They do not add AIFF files taken from GB browser to the "Media" folder. Only a recorded instrument (vocal or instrument) or a file dropped into time line are saved in the media folder using "Save" or "Save As". Or in other words anything from "Outside" the GB browser.
MIDI instruments recorded into GB are not kept in the Media folder after a "Save" or Save As" or unfortunately "Save As Archive".
"Save as Archive" saves all the files you currently have in the GB timeline (except MIDI data) in the Media Folder. A nice, safe, sure way to know all your intended files will be there when you open your tune or burn it to a disc and return it in the future. This is why I always use it. It does of course make you .band file much larger.
Recently I have tested the .band files for operator usefulness and error to try to alleviate the somewhat unfounded fears placed upon opening the file with the "Show Package Contents" function.
Sure thing can go wrong if your careless when you open the .band file but its not as is clicking any of the audio file will hurt anything.
You can play many of these files saved under "Save as Archive" with the finder.
I have found that if you ACCIDENTLY toss out any AIFF files that were taken from the GB browser and placed into the timeline that this will not hinder your .band file from opening. GB will still open and play your file as it normally would and when you "Save As Archive " again those browser files will be replaced in the media folder. Even if you have looped them, cut them, shortened them.
If you ACCIDENTLY toss out a file added to the timeline or a recorded instrument or vocal then your in trouble because it is gone but the GB file will still open. GB will tell you it can't find the file and ask if you want to search for it.
Now if you Toss out your "Project FIle" then your screwed. The .band file will not open and the game is over.
Why do I even mention all this? Not to annoy anyone or go to battle over the subject but simply to mention that I have tested every scenario and that opening the .band file and clicking around will not harm a thing. Clicking around will not harm anything or damage your file. Just leave the "Project Data" file alone.

  • Why does it take longer to connect to my wifi network on Lion?

Since upgrading to Lion on my older MacBook Pro I've noticed that waking from sleep, it takes airport sometimes up to 10 or 15 seconds to find my wifi network.  This never was the case with Leopord or Snow Leopard.  Is this a known issue in Lion upgrades or is something wrong in my Network settings?

Hard to say definitively - nowhere near enough information, I'm afraid. One thing that I'm wondering is exactly what sort of drives you've put in the new machine. For instance, if you've put hybrid drives in it, then yes the stuff that gets used frequently (OS) may well load fast - but everything else will take significantly longer. Especially this would apply to large audio files. The other thing is .pk files. If you've turned those off, then large sessions will inevitably take longer to load (with Audition 3, at any rate) than they would have done otherwise. This situation appears to be a lot better with CS6 and CC, FWIW. But they have been completely rewritten, and designed to run on newer OS's, which Audition 3 simply isn't. Yes it will work fine - just won't be as effective in operation as the later software.

  • Why does addressbooksync takes long and using really a lot of ram!?

When I sync the iPhone with iTunes and look at my activity monitor, it shows that it takes more and more ram to do this. After 5 minutes while sysncing the addressbook only, the amount of ram used is already 6.70 gb! Here a screenshot:
Why is this? It completely slows down my system.

It's not a memory leak, see the references to learn more about how RAM is utilized to speed up the Mac.

  • Why does it take longer to download app on my MBA core i7 than it does my iPhone 3gs?

The app is over 700 Mbs but still.  It takes about 20 to download a Cd from itunes too. Not happy!!!

This solution worked wonders for me.  Maybe it wil work for you as well.  Good luck!
Go to the network (System Preferences -> Network) and add a new network.  Give it a name, then leave everything else standard.  Click the APPLY button, quit the application and reboot your MBA.
    That's it.
I have no idea why this works.  It may be that the default network location is broken, but building a new one fixes it.  Let me know if it works.

  • Why does wifi takes longer with Lion than Snow Leopard?

My Macbook pro doesn't find my Airport nearly as quick with Lion as it did with Snow Leopard. Many times it will even jump over to another persons unlocked network even though my Airport is at the top of the preferred list of networks. It also shows a box saying that I am not connected even after I am connected, so then I have to click the box just to remove it. This is annoying as ****. Why is this happening? There weren't any similar problems when upgrading fron Leopard to Snow Leopard.

  • Why does iMessage take longer to send messages for certain conversations?

iMessage can take around 15-20 minutes to send messages to certain conversations, but is extremely fast for others (I've noticed that it's generally faster for relatively newer conversations) off of my phone (iPhone 4S running iOS 8). iMessages for the same conversations send infinitely faster off of my macbook pro.
It shouldn't be a wifi/data/network issue because messages sent for different conversations off of the same network take different times to send.

I would delete the contact and then have the other person(s) send you a Mesage and then readd them as a contact.

  • Why does it take so long to upload pictures from iphote to AppleTV

Why does it take so long to upload pictures from iphoto to AppleTV?   It takes hours to see a folder created in iPhoto to finally display on AppleTV.

Do you mean that you are importing music from an audio CD into iTunes?  If so, the most likely causes of slow speeds are limitations of the CD drive you are using and/or the CD being dirty or damaged. If you turn on error correction within iTunes this can slow down the import process if it is repeatedly re-reading the same data before it gets a repeatable result (though it is a good idea to always have error connection enabled as the alternative is audible errors in the results).  Depending on which system I'm using typical CD reading speeds vary between 5x and 12x (so a nominal 74 min CD imports in 6-15 min).
Importing a CD has nothing to do with your internet connection (which is only used to look up the song titles, etc. before you start importing).
However, if you are downloading music from the iTunes store or another internet retailer such as Amazon, I'd expect an album's worth of m4a/mp3 files to download in 1-2 minutes on a typical broadband connection.  If this is what you're doing, and its taking an hour to complete, then there's a problem with the broadband connection itself or with how your PC is set up to use it.

  • Why does it take so long to download on my iPad 2?

Why does it take so long to download on my iPad? My wifi is strong and working perfectly with other computers.  Also, it's slow on my original iPad.

I did what was suggested above (closing all apps and then resetting the iPad). Then I tried to download the movie the Smurfs (for my kid ofcourse!). It's 3.4 GB. In the first hour I have downloaded 1 GB. So it looks like it's going to take at least 3.5 hours to download a movie.  Does this seem correct? My speed is 10 mbps.
Sems a little high but not unreasonable.  Figure that a true 10Mbps would take almost exactly an hour for 3.4GB.  Your 10Mbps rate is the rate to the ISP, which is the absolute best that you can hope for.  Maneuvering data through the many switches in the Internet probably cuts that in half, which would mean two hours.  However, that means absolutely nothing because the weak link in the chain is the rate that the server can send the data.  Consider that we just had a major holiday with many children expecting many movies.  It wouldn't surprise me if the server can send only 2 or 3Mbps per subscriber.
By the way, I do not agree that closing apps and resetting the iPad makes the slightest bit of difference.
My theoretical rate is a tad shy of 5Mbps.  As best I can recall, movies take several hours to download.  My routine is to start the download as I'm going to sleep.  The movie is then available the next day.  No fuss, no bother.

  • Why does it take so long to access older messages on this site?

Just curious, but why does it take so long to access the older messages
(and related responses) on this site?
When I do a search, the list of results comes up immediately, but when
I click on an entry to see the full message I run into problems. If
the entry is relatively new (say less than six months old), the full
message and related responses displays within seconds, but if it is
old than that, it can take up to 15 minutes or more to display
    everything.
I have tried different browser, different operating systems, with and
without proxies and firewalls, on T1, on DSL, on dial-up, and the same
    thing always happens.
Anyone know what is causing this, and a way I can fix it?
    Thanks

Hey that happens to me too....I think they are archived a different way then the new post, so it takes longer to retrieve them.

What's wrong with this Forum? Why does Adobe take so long to reply to posts?!
This is actually "specific" to this Photoshop Forum.
I typically get responses back from other Adobe forum promptly.
    Chime in.

The Adobe engineering folks DO duck in here from time to time - and that's a BLESSING!  Please name any other big company where you get to interact with the engineers AT ALL.  I can't.  But I suspect the engineers actually have a lot oof real work to do, and their time here is necessarily limited.
Your comments are more along the line of "I pay a huge amount, for that I expect better support".  These are very valid comments.  But reality is different from what we may expect, and this forum is not the place to expect Adobe support participation AT ALL.  In fact, the technical support people at Adobe often direct users to come here (something I've always found amusing).
At the higher level, Adobe may simply not be spending enough on support for literally millions of users.  Is is greed or smart business to try to minimize support cost?  That's up for individuals to decide.
I suggest you write a snail-mail letter to the Adobe president if you're not getting the support you need.
