Why Does Encore 2.0 Transcode Twice?

Hi!
I prefer to transcode my assets (DV-avi's) prior to burning and have noticed several times that even if the status of all assets says Transcoded, Encore 2.0 sometimes transcode one or more items once again when i burn the DVD eventhoug they already have been transcoded. I dont remember this behaviour when i was using Encore 1.5.
A couple a minutes ago i had five motion menues transcoded prior to burning the disc, and when i pressed Build to build the DVD Encore 2.0 did transcode one of them once again.
- Anybody know why?
- Does this happen to you?

I'm building an SD DVD from a 90 minute HD quicktime output from FCP in DVCPro HD at 23.976 fps. I have a new Intel 8 core Mac with 8 Gb of RAM and 2 TB of internal drive space running CS3 production premium. The quality setting I used was a 2 Pass vbr 1.5 lowest, 4.9 average and 7.8 max data rate at 23.976 fps. The audio was stereo PCM at 48khz. The transcode step of the build ran for 5 hours and then the lower progress bar reset to the beginning and started over again! I let it run for another half hour to see if it was going faster than the first time but it wasn't so I stopped it and used a lower quality file from Compressor instead. What happened? Was it going to take 11 hours to encode a 90 minute film?

  • Why does Encore copy the file into Cache?

It seems that Encore will copy the m2v file into ProjectDir/Cache\Media Cache Files\mlf.cache.MACC
The file is rather large, nearly 4 GB (2gb for each ac3 file).
I used to run the previous version and I don't think it makes copy in Cache.
    Why does Encore do that?
Any way to make Encore just use the m2v file directly without copying it into Cache?
    Thanks!

Same prob for me. Very annoying becuz the program itself is very useful, probably the best dvd menu making system ever but I was tryin to set up an audio dvd wit my own design, prepared sound files like converted them all to ac3 format but every time it is the same, despite deleting cache, the program recreates and doubles these unknown file types of large size taking up irrationally large space. A normal dvd size of 4.7 gbytes to set up would in this case require 50 gbytes or more as I have calculated. More than ten times larger than one dvd. Ridiculous.
If there's no need for transcode by file format ac3, then why should they time after time be stored in cache mostly taking up double space ? It should be working as cd or dvd write where you're offered two options, either creating an image file on hard disk or on the fly which doesn't take any space of the disk and is more direct.
So what should I do now ? Look for another program or surrender this one and let it eat up more than 50 gigas ?
Awful situation is I don't have time to look after programs.
But I ain't got this amount of disk space either.
My project must be ready in a few days but no hope for that like this.
Help me, it's urgent. Thank you.

  • Why does pressing the L key twice (to cycle through dimming modes) remove a selected photo from a collection?

That's my question, Why does pressing the L key twice (to cycle through dimming modes) remove a selected photo from a collection? Is my system the only computer that does this when I follow Adobe's directions to cycle through dimming modes by repeatedly hitting L? If not, how dumb is this?

  • Why does Encore try to re-transcode compliant M2V files?

Encore will only try to re-transcode an MPEG-2 file in 2 circumstances.
1 - The asset is not properly DVD-Compliant.
This could be for several reasons, the most likely offenders being either too high a bitrate or an incorrect GOP size. DVD-Video limits us to a total
    i combined Audio & Video
bitrate of 9800 kbps, or 9.8 Mb/s. This is also a peak value, not an average one. The easiest way to check the bitrate is with the excellent "Bitrate Viewer" available from http://www.tecoltd.com/bitratev.htm
2 - The total combined bitrate of the Audio & Video files
    i on the timeline
exceeds the maximum bitrate set in the Project Settings (Advanced).
If, for example, this is set to 7Mb/sec, and the peak rates when combined
    i exceed
    this number, Encore will re-transcode.
The only solution in both cases is to re-transcode the original source file to MPEG-2 or else to use the uncompressed asset & allow Encore to transcode automatically.

The authoring itself is possible. It can be done (and is also being promoted as such) in Encore.
Also there is a possibility to burn simple Bluray discs (or even normal DVD discs with Bluray content that play on Bluray players) in Toast 10.
    Thanks...

  • Why does Encore keep crashing and where are the media files?

I am having big problems with Encore right now.  I have developed a rather complex DVD with something like 20 movies on it.  The video files associated with these movies are all in .wmv format; about 4gb total in size and are stored on an external drive as is the Encore file with which I am authoring this DVD.  This drive has a USB connection to my computer which I know is not the best but I have managed to author an earlier draft of this DVD no problem.
The problem now is that Encore keeps crashing.   Also, in the process, a lot of disc space is eaten up on my "C" drive.  I don't know why this is and where to go to delete these files.  I have defragged my computer and my anti-virus scans are up to date.  I am running a windows XP Home Edition O/S with an Intel pentium 4 CPU, 2.79 ghz with 2.5 gb of RAM.  I went to edit>preferences>media>location in Encore and got that my media files are on my C drive in Adobe>library but, when I looked, they didn't seem to be there.  Super frustrating!   Also my computer is super-slow too.   I deleted all temp files and there is no spyware to speak of, according to my virus scan software (Panda).
Does anyone have any ideas as to how to address this problem?  Many thanks!
    Lewis

  • Why does Encore keep loosing links?????

If I transcode a file from withon Enocre 5.5 before I build a project, EVERY time I close the project, the next time open it it loses all the links to the transcoded files.   Does this happen to everyone.  I have created several new projects and it ALWAYS happens.  Does this happen to everyone?  Anyone found a fix for it?
    Thanks,
    Scott

Forgot to ask; what version of Encore?
The Mac equivalent may have been to create a new administrator account and try it from there.
This does not apply to your symptom directly, but does address the loggin in with adminstrator privilges, and creating a new adminstrator account has been a workaround/troubleshooting test.

  • Why does Encore not recognize jpegs made in Photoshop?

I use CS5 Master Suite on a Mac running the latest version of Snow Leopard.
I am trying to make a DVD slideshow. I made a bunch of jpegs of a recent holiday trip using Photoshop CS5. However, when I try to import the jpegs, I get this strange dialog error message "The software available to decode the menus is not available on this system." Encore then nearly crashes as I try to get rid of the error dialog.
This is strange given that I used Photoshop CS5 to make the jpegs, Encore and Photoshop are both creations of Adobe, the version of PS I am using is on my system -- the same system that Encore is on -- so any codecs needed ought to be here.
This also occurs with psd files as well.
With those same jpegs, I was able to make a rather lame slideshow DVD using iDVD, but I'd rather have more creative control.
What is going on? Any suggestions? I've downloaded all the latest and greatest updates for all Creative Suite apps.

You can't import still images with frame sizes more than 4096x4096 pixels.
You should not ever use anything that is not already at the correct resolution for DVD-Video.
That means 720x480 NTSC and 720x576 PAL. @ 72 DPI (some say 96 DPI).
Make sure your aspect ratio is correct, so to do that you either use the Photoshop template, or else design in square pixels & resize.
For 16:9, that is 860x480 NTSC and 1024x576 PAL
(960x540 also works, but you will see vertical reduction as well as horizontal reduction there which can - and does - play havoc with text).
For 4:3 that is 640x480 NTSC and 768x576 for PAL.
Resize accordingly afterwards for anamorphic squeezing to get the correct PAR.
Why would you want to even try using anything else at higher resolutions for DVD???
Makes no sense, as what you input will not look like what comes out of the other end.

  • Why does Encore CS6 quit during startup and how can I get it to stop?

I am using Encore CS6 on Mac OSX 10.9.1. After spending all afternoon purchasing, researching and downloading the newest Encore (because CS5 would no longer burn anything on the new operating system), every time I open Encore, it unexpectedly quits. There is no error message, it loads Encore to the point where you can see all the Encore windows, and before asking whether you are opening an existing project or starting a new project, the program quits. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Encore is not supported on that OS, and may not work http://www.adobe.com/products/encore/faq.html

  • Why does Encore not recognize my DVD burner?

I recently purchased Encore to complete a video editing project I've been working on, and for some reason the software will not recognize the external DVD burner I have connected to my computer. The burner is not that old, so I don't see why Encore would show that no device was attached, especially when the computer itself recognizes the external drive. Anyone else have this problem? Anyone have any solutions? Few things are as frustrating as having software/hardware issues for no apparent reason. Thanks!

  • Why does the Math Channel save twice as many datapoints than my actual data channels when I export it?

I have data on channels 1 and 2 and also have the math channel (A + B) selected.
When I export data, it saves twice as many data points for the math channel than the others. Why is this?
Note, I am using Sample, not Peak Detect.
If anybody could answer this I would be very grateful.

Which version of the application are you using -- 1.0, 1.1, or 1.2?
In versions 1.0 and 1.1, the math channel did linear interpolation between samples to help support cursors and measurements. In 1.2, we improved the cursors and were able to remove the linear interpolation.
Regardless of your application version, the timestamp associated with each sample will indicate when the sample was taken.

  • Why does Ovi Suite copy tracks twice???

Not all the time but on some albums (especially soundtracks but not always), OS2 sometimes loads tracks twice to my N97. I delete the whole album and re-sync, but then sometimes, it re-syncs the duplicate again when I connect the phone again. I haven't been able to find a pattern yet, but will start recording which albums it does this to. Anyone else seen this / have a solution?

  • Why does itunes download itunes extras twice for movies

    Hi All,
I lost some movies so am having to re download again from the purchased section in itunes.
When i download i have been downloading all three versions of the film, sd, 720p and 1080p.
The problem i have it is downloads itunes extras for every version. The file is smaller in size for the sd which in understandable however the file is the same size for the 720p and 1080p so im guessing i have exactly the same files twice in the library.
Also when i look at my movies collection in itunes in shows the film three times! On one icon i can open either the extras or the film and on the other two icons only the extras. When right clicking on the extras icons it shows a file size on both which make be belive they are both sd versions!
    Any help would be apreciated.
    Thanks

  • Why does Encore restrict  importation of certain video resolutions?

As a new Encore user, my jaw dropped when I discovered that Encore retricts importing (PAL) video assets to only 720x576 or 704x576 especially now that so many other DVD authoring applications offer other DVD compliant resolutions of 352x288 and 352x576. Are there any particular reasons for these restrictions? I'm surprised that a company of Adobe's stature would release this software with these limitations. For the present time, I think I'll stick to my trusty old Spruce DVDMaestro.
    Tom

    I'm guessing two reasons:
    1. The lower resolutions are in the DVD-Video spec mainly for compatibility with MPEG1 video. Encore doesn't do MPEG1.
    2. Encore supports widescreen (16:9) pixel aspect ratios. The lower resolutions don't allow for 16:9 PARs.
Other than that, you'd have to ask Adobe, because only they know for sure.
