Why does every version of Firefox seem less stable of the version before?

Firefox used to be the best and most stable browser around, but the last few years I've been noticing major memory leaks that get worse with every update. Simply submitting a crash report from one browser won't make any difference here because I'm not just talking about one computer. An old version of Firefox on my Windows XP desktop is completely stable, but on my windows 7 laptop Firefox will crash 3 or 4 times a day. On my samsung s4 phone and on my Xperia z2 tablet I have the same problem, only it's worse because on those devices is kept up-to-date. At my college they have Firefox installed on instanced sessions of Windows. Basically, the campus sets up the machine once and create an instance of it on all of the computers on campus. Firefox is up to date or just one version behind on any given day and it also crashes constantly.
There is no particular reason for it either. I could be completely idle and doing nothing and it will crash. Or I can open a new tab and it will crash. Or I could be doing absolutely nothing but reading without touching anything and I will see the screen blink black and then it will crash.
Whatever you guys did, Internet Explorer is now more stable than Firefox. Oh, that's slow, but at least it won't crash on me several times a day.
To that typically use multiple devices I am experiencing in excess of 10 crashes of Firefox a loan in any given day and nothing else crashes on any system. I definitely won't be updating Firefox on my desktop, nor on my laptop because at least it doesn't crash as much as on the updated devices, but I like Firefox to be stable again or to know about a stable fork that I can use on my updated devices.

Hi Elliander, when Firefox crashes, it usually records information about what was happening at that moment. You often will see the Mozilla Crash Reporter dialog come up. You can submit that data to Mozilla and share it with forum volunteers to see whether it points to the solution. Please check the last section of the support article "[[Firefox Crashes]]" for steps to get those crash IDs, and then post some of the recent ones here.
If you only get the Windows 7 crash dialog, then unfortunately that information might not be available.
In that case, have you tried Firefox's Safe Mode? That's a standard diagnostic tool to deactivate extensions and some advanced features of Firefox. More info: [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues using Safe Mode]].
''If Firefox is not running:'' Hold down the Shift key when starting Firefox.
''If Firefox is running:'' You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using either:
* "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
* Help menu > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
and OK the restart.
''Both scenarios:'' A small dialog should appear. Click "Start in Safe Mode" (''not'' Refresh).
Any less crashy?
Also, this is strange:
Application Name: firefox.exe
Application Version: 20.0.1.4847
What version do you actually have?

Okay, can you reply letting me know if the computer was purchased used?, this will help as it would identify the possibility that the prior owner did indeed create some sort of block.
Next, what you are speaking about blocks in regards to downloading 'PDF software'...is it PDF 'software' or PDF files that are blocked?, it appears that maybe it's the PDF files which are blocked at which case it indeed my be programmed into the system.
Please answer these and we can further assist you in reaching an answer. As for this list you have provided, I would need more than simple bullets....if you can provide the location of these 'bullets' and file extension...that would get the ball rolling.
Thanks

• Why does my Xperia P need to be connected to the PC before I see the Sync Zone app in PC Companion?

I have a W705 phone and an Xperia P smart phone. I need to sync both with Outlook and use PC Companion. If the previous sync was with the W705, I have to connect the Zperia to the PC with a USB cable before I can see the Sync Zone application in PC Companion. This seems silly when all it's going to do is sync with a Google account over the Internet. At the same time, PC Companion proudly displays the message:- "you don't even need to connect your phone to sync"!
Is there any way round this?
It would be ideal if I could sync the W705 with Outlook and then sync the Xperia directly with the W705 and thus avoid the unwanted Google account. Is this possible?

Guys, my browser is going crazy and every website that I am on changes in about 10 seconds to 2 minutes to another webpage. I even downloaded a newer 5.0 version of firefox and I am having the same problem.

Your System Details are showing Fun Web Products. Suggest you look in Add-ons - Extensions and Plug-ins, and Control Panel>Add/Remove programs or >(newer version) Programs and Features. You could also do a search of your computer.
Fun Web Products(associated with MyWebSearch) always seems to cause problems, Alexa does, too, but less often - there may be conflicts.
I'm not an expert on these two products. I'm afraid I can only alert you to the problems. Google will show you plenty of evidence of problems. You might also try the Search Firefox Help box above - a gold mine but it usually requires a lot of digging.
You can start Firefox in Safe Mode - Hold Shift Key down as you double click on the Firefox icon>ignore the page that opens>Continue. If that improves things you could do a little troubleshooting(Safe Mode, Problematic extensions etc), use default theme, -

• Why does every Apple update require a restart?

I vaguely remember a time when OS updates didn't require a complete restart every time you installed one. Why is it the case now? I have had 3 updates in the last 3 days and 3 restarts. The last one was updates to Quicktime, iLife Media browser and iDVD. None of which I would consider a critical components. OK Quicktime might have something in it but I doubt it.
UNIX is a great because of it modularity and the ability to update components without shutting everything else down. That's what makes it a great server platform. Yes I know occasionally the kernel and other core components need patching and in those cases a restart is required but why oh why does every Apple update of late require a restart?
Whomever answers (preferably from Apple) please be as technical as you like. I would much rather a real answer than bull.

Well, you dont have to believe it but that's what's happening. Many updates don't modify critical system files, but those that do will require a restart. Not all updates to QuickTime, for instance, have modified critical system files, so they've not required a restart. However, the latest version does do this, so the restart is required.
Likewise with iLife, the media browser is a core utility that is shared by the system and many applications and it's installation will require a restart. There are other similar shared resources as well which can get updated from time to time.

Make sure that you not run Firefox in (permanent) [[Private Browsing]] mode.
* You enter Private Browsing mode if you select: Tools > Options > Privacy > History: Firefox will: "Never Remember History"
* To see all History and Cookie settings, choose: Tools > Options > Privacy, choose the setting Firefox will: Use custom settings for history
* Uncheck: [ ] "Permanent Private Browsing mode"
You can use one of these extensions to adjust the default font size and page zoom on web pages:

Are these suggestions speficic to the Windows version of Firefox? Because on my Mac version (31.0) there is no "options" in the Tool menu.
I'm trying to figure out why Firefox has no spellcheck. I suspect it needs dictionaries installed, but it's a bit of a mystery. I had to reste FF as it kept crashing after I updated to V31.0

Yes Options is for Windows.
On Mac you use "Firefox > Preferences" or the Preferences button in the "3-bar" Firefox menu button drop-down list.
You can see which dictionary is selected if you right-click in a text area and open the Languages submenu.
At least one dictionary should be installed and have a check mark to indicate that it is selected.
*Open the "Add Dictionaries" link to install a dictionary if you do not have one.
*Make sure that [X] "Check Spelling" in the right-click context menu is check-marked.
You can enable or disable spell checking globally:
*Firefox > Preferences > Advanced : General: Browsing: "Check my spelling as I type"
You can look here for dictionaries:
Were you able to stop the crashes?

Question
When are you going to make GOOGLE TOOLBAR compatible with the latest version of firefox, i will not update to version 8 until its compatible

It's not going to happen. Google announced withdrawal of their Google Toolbar.
Using Google Toolbar features without toolbars - MozillaZine Knowledge Base
:http://kb.mozillazine.org/Using_Google_Toolbar_features_without_toolbars
The Google Toolbar will not be updated for Firefox 5 or later Firefox versions. ([http://googletoolbarhelp.blogspot.com/2011/07/update-on-google-toolbar-for-firefox.html reference]) Google finally decided that their [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Problematic_extensions problematic extension] is beyond repair for the little benefit added for Firefox users. Google as with other browsers is eliminating or making toolbars less accessible.
Consider the features that you are using and see if you can match up features from the list created by Google and by Firefox users.

• The newest version of firefox is NOT STABLE. I have gone back to Firefox 3.0.5, and that works fine. FIX IT

I have a Macbook- I'm running OSX version 10.5.8. Previous versions of firefox have always worked fine. I downloaded the newest version of firefox, and have had all sorts of problems with it. After about 6 weeks of struggling with it, I have gone back to version 3.0.5. I know it's an earlier version, but the performance is way better. Windows and tabs open quickly, there are no loading problems on any sites, and other browsers work fine now, too. I run safari and google chrome also. I was almost at the point where I was going to pass on firefox altogether. In my opinion, the newest version is NOT STABLE and unless you fix the problems, I will not use it. This was a terrible experience and I will not try a new version right now. I'm just happy that I have a stable version of firefox again. And by the way, the older version is way faster loading pages, too.

Going all the way back to Firefox 3.0.5 is shear foolishness, it is 14 security versions behind the last 3.0.19 release. And that version is missing at least a dozen security updates that were applied to the 3.5 and 3.6 versions after support for 3.0.x ended.
If you are not happy with Firefox 4, you should have installed Firefox 3.6.17. That is very similar to the 3.0 and has all the security fixes that have been released since support for Firefox 3.0.x ended last year.
