Why does export with "current settings" compress 1440 x 1080 to 720 x 480?

I am trying to export some clips from fcp x to motion (wish you didn't have to do this, to begin with). Anyway, my clips are being exported in a lower quality )720 x 480)-- all of the choices in the "export" drop-down menu are 720 x 480, even though the clip is 1440 x 1080, imported to dfcp from hdv format.
Thanks for the help; this is driving me nuts.

Ah, well it says 1440 x 1080 in the project that I am editing, but since I wanted to only fix a short clip, I created a "to fix" project and put the files I want to fix in there to export. That project had defaulted to 720 x 480--there's the problem. Thanks, yet another.

  • Editing H.264, exporting with current settings results in transcode?

Hello,  I just edited a H.264 (.mov) home video and exported it using "Current Settings". The original file size was 400 MB but the export resulted in a 4.5 GB file. FCP X obviously transcodes the original material. I've also tried exporting the same file using the "H.264" setting, the result then was a 300 Mb file. This corresponds to the cutting I've done but the export process still took a lot of time and CPU to finish which proves transcode taking place again.  In the past I used Quicktime 7 Pro to cut and edit H.264, it never transcoded the files and the saving was quick an painless.  Am I missing some settings here or is FCP X currently unable to edit H.264 and export it without transcoding the original material?  Thank you

    Hi Badunit,
thanks a lot for this clarification. It perfectly makes sense in the way you describe it.
Maybe you can give me an additional recommendation ?
At the end I need my film in h.264 format and of course I'd like the film to be in terms of quality as close to the original material as possible. Original files are AVCHD HA (so h.264 codec with 17Mbit/s) in 1080i resolution.
So far I have exported my material directly from FCP X (using either the "export to h.264" from FCP itself but also trying several h.264 export formats from Compressor). All these attempts ended up with a quality that is visibly worse compared to the original AVCHD file, even when I use a bitrate for the output that is much higher than the 17 MBit of the original material. Resolution is fine but scenes with fast moves are really bad in some cases. From a "naive" point of view this seems strange to me: An output file in h.264 25MBit/s should be as good as the input material that was h.264 17MBit/s, shouldn't it ?
From what you stated above, I now wondered if I should better export to ProRes first (thus building what you called the "master" in best available quality) and than build the h.264 file from the master with Compressor in a second step ? means: go the way "Highly compressed" -> Master -> "Highly compressed" instead of directly doing "Highly compressed" -> "Highly compressed" ? Would there be any difference ? Or is the material anyway transcoded to ProRes in the background when exporting to h.264.
Happy to receive any recommendations / experiences on this.

  • Why does FireFox change layout/settings during upgrades without asking ?

Just upgraded to Firefox 18 (windows 7 desktop). Why does Firefox change layouts/settings without asking the user if he wants it or not???
I am getting sick of those changes. I want to have at the google main page the options (as before) to search in all languages, or pages from a certain language or pages in a certain language (of course depening of the google address; f.i. at google.de for german languages, google.fr for french languages etc).
In the latest Firefox 17 it was working as I wanted and described before: when I visited www.google.de/firefox of www.google.fr/firefox. Now those 3 options (under the search bar) are gone and I do not want to operate by clicking on the advanced search button. Those things should be visible under the search bar again.
Also my STARTPAGE was GONE/DELETED after the update !!! Grrrrr.... Updating is OK but mozilla should not change user configured items !!!!!!!
The above described problem has nothing to do with the google website.

By the way, do Firefox and IE use the same proxy settings? You can view Firefox's here:
orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced > "Network" mini-tab > "Settings" button
The default is "Use system proxy settings".

  • Premiere not exporting with correct settings.

So I make videos for youtube and up untill yesturday I used the youtube 720p preset changed to 30fps to match my footage and everything else left standard. Normally videos around 17minutes come out at 700-800mb
However for some reason when i export with these same settings, estimated video still in the 700-800 range. What adobe is actually exporting is a 57mb file, I did this multiple times and recieved the same result and even upped the bit rate from 5mbs to 17.5mbs  which changed the estimated size to 2.3gb and once exported i received yet another 57mb file.
the final video is extremely low quality similar to that of the original camera phones, my original footage is hd.
The only way around it i found was to use the check box export with sequence settings.

Hopefully this works below are 2 screen shots to get the full video settings shown.

  • I exported my 1080i project as QT movie with current settings but...

when I burned it onto a dvd using iDVD and displayed it on my LCD HDTV using my PS3 (more acronyms please?) it still look compressed/pixelated and had artifacts. I exported to QT movie using "current settings" so I was assuming that the quality would be as good as it was while viewing it in FCP. Any idea what happened?
    (using fcp 5.1.4)

Might try using Compressor and DVD SP for the DVD creation... the encodes to MPEG are better there I believe.

  • SCM 3.0 - Why does Exporting to GPO Backup and Importing back the same LocalGPO alter the settings so drastically ?

    What I did:
Specialize a Win 7 computer Baseline (Baseline A)
Export the duplicated baseline to the GPO Backup Folder.
Use this the exported GPO Backup within a MDT task Sequence
Create a new computer with this task Sequence. It completes successfully.
Export with LOCALGPO Tool the Baseline (BaseLine B
Compare to the Windows 7 SP1 Baseline copy - (Baseline B).
    Result (see pictures):
        Total unique settings compared: 317
        Total settings in common: 205
Total settings not in common: 112
Settings that differ (15): Just one exemple:
I ask for "Audit System events" Success and Failure (Baseline A) and the result is NoAuditing. Strange isn't it?
    Settings that match (190): Cool.
Settings only in  Baseline A (57) Just a comment:
There are a lot of settings with the value: No one. Are these values correctly exported and correctly positioned on the new computer?
Settings only in baseline B (55) Just a comment:
There are a lot of characters badly recognized. I think there is a problem with French Language.
How can I trust SCM with so many errors? What can I do to correct these errors?
I use Security Compliance Manager 3.0.60.0 with settingLibrary Version 2.0.82001

After reading  social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/720f6515-47fc-4805-8ccb-dc144cb72078/action?threadDisplayName=gpo-backups-import-merge-export-problems I think I've identified that some of the differences come from the Not Defined/Not Configured
settings not being backed up in the GPO Backup.  I can live with that.
The other issues are attributed to flaws within SCM 3 regarding GPO Imports...hopefully they'll be sorted out by the team soon.

  • Export as current settings question

    Hello,
I have HDV video on my timeline, Setting is HDV 60i 1440x1080. I export it as Quick Time movie, leaving Current settings. But my resulting video is HDV 1080i 60, but with dimensions 1920x1080.
It looks way too stretch when playing with QT or when imported to Compressor for further compression. How come this is happening?

    Michael,
You are probably correct and the OP is getting the sequence size from QT which is giving him the square pixel equivalent and he has anamorphic checked (or not) when he imports it. But who knows? Without any clarification we can spin theories forever ...
    Happy Holidays by the way.

  • Exporting using "Current Settings"

What exactly does "Current Settings" mean? Are these the sequence settings I have or the RT settings or something else?
Simple, I know, but I just want to be sure.
    Thanks!
    Cameron

It means the timeline settings. If your project is DV, then it will export a DV quality file. If your settings are Offline RT, it will export an offline RT formatted Quicktime...if they are 8-bit uncompressed, an 8-bit uncompressed QT...etc. And the same frame rate as well, 23.98, 29.97 and so on.
It basically means that no further compression is occurring.

  • Export Quicktime - Current Settings?

I have finished in FCP. 1:45 minutes long. Video yearbook.
I usually just export as quicktime using the default settings. When I click on the Current Settings option (in FCP - export to Quicktime) there are way too many choices. For the entry level guy, which one should I choose? I am thinking
    DV NTSC 48 Khz?
Or should I leave it alone?

I know what you mean, but the trouble is that DVDSP will work with a lot of the QT formats...
However, if you are looking to get the best workflow and quality, then export as MPEG2 and bring that into DVDSP. If MPEG2 isn't an option in your settings then you'll need to use Compressor to do this bit. You can export your footage from FCP directly into Compressor, or you can export as a QT format and use Compressor later.
If you choose to go with the QT format for now, look for full sized, full quality DV (if you started with a DV camera) - i.e. NTSC 48Khz DV (or PAL if it is PAL you are using).
If you started with DVCPRO then export as that - the fewer times you change the footage the better.
If you then enter the world of Compressor, you need to think about the length of time the footage plays for, the available space on your disc and the other components that will eat into that space (audio, menu graphics, subtitles, ROM content, etc). Only once you have an idea about all of that can you really get the best compression to MPEG2.
If you go with the 'DV' route into DVDSP then you need to look carefully at the preference settings for encoding. If you are going to encode this to MPEG2 within DVDSP (which is possible, but not necessarily the best way to do it) then you need to adjust the settings to allow the material to fit on the disc. Higher settings create larger file sizes, lower settings create smaller file sizes... BUT you need to allow for the other elements as well (Audio can be especially important to encode correctly).
As you can probably tell, there really is no simple 'one size fits all' formula and there are a lot of different variables. For what it's worth, my general workflow is this:
Capture and edit footage in FCP
Export as DV PAL 48khz, self-contained file
Use MPEG2 encoder (BitVice, MegaPEG.X, Canopus Procoder, etc)
Encode audio to AC3 (need to use Compressor for this bit)
Bring encoded video and audio into DVDSP
Add other elements (menus, subtitles, etc)
Author and build the disc - or write to DLT for replication.
Each stage of the process demands different skills and understandings about DVD in general... no two discs ever seem to be the same and as you can see I use a wide range of different software to accomplish the task.
You certainly don't need anything more than DVDSP to build a disc, but the quality you can achieve may not be as high as if you use different tools for the different parts of the process. Exporting from FCP via Compressor is a Very Good Option™ if you want to have more control over how the compressed file will look - but you need to think about learning how Compressor works...
    Lots to think about... sorry!

  • Basic Question: why does exporting Movie take so long?

I import an hour long H264 640x480 movie into imovie. It takes about eight minutes.
I then add a few chapter markers. That's all I need to do.
Then I export as a large movie, also H264. It takes four hours.
So why does it take so long, as it is the same format? Is it just because the size is a a little different? Is there any way to export the movie at the same size as it was originally? Then would it export more quickly?
    Thanks.

    TimK wrote:
    … What is a res?
I assumed that imovie did support h264, as up to now it has been exporting all my movies as h264 by default.
    ooops, sorry: res=resolution
iM is meant for Camcorder imports - those trigger the import routines: .dv gets 'cloned' into Events, HDef gets converted into the AppleIntermediateCodec ... which offers the two (three) standards 1920x1080, (1440x1080/anamorph for HDV/'HDef on tape' sources) and 1280x720 ...
The EXPORT codec h.264 isn't meant for editing, but optimized for playback and file-size.
    technically, a AVCHD/mts IS h.264
but to avoid technical probs, Apple prefers to transode into intermediates, aic.mov for consumer editor, proRes for FCPX ....
there's playback-codecs and edit-codecs ... for instance, playback-codecs (mp2, h264, Sorenson, VP6 etc) do not store every frame ( ! ) to reduce file-size; now, you like to edit with frame precision ... what shall happen?
    an edit-codec contains any solid frame ... = file-size mucho bigger ...

  • Why does exporting to jpeg or png come out blurry in Illustrator CC?

    Hello,
I am dying to export a poster ( size 27 x 41 in) from Illustrator CC into a jpeg. The image comes out blurry and text is fuzzy and not legible.
300 dpi, anti-aliasing optimized. Why does this happen?
The pngs won't even save, it takes hours and shuts down?
How can I export this crisp and clear in a format that client can use to print it form Staples or other center?
    Kind,

I am experiencing the same issue. The jpg / png files which are exported from Illustrator CC turns out bad... and I did not want huge files (example 72dpi for web images) Can @Adobe @AdobeCare please provide assistance? I am using the Retina Mac Book Pro laptop.

  • Why LiveType chnage my settings to 1440 x 1080 instead of 1920 x 1080 ?

    Hi there,
I import in some effects into Final Cut Express 4 from the .ipr fiIes created in LiveType.
In LiveType under the Preference, I clearly select Apple 1080i50 ... but when I goto FCE4 & import in the LiveType .ipr file, the properties showed it as 1440 x 1080. Isn't Apple 1080i50 is 1920 x 1080 ?
Does that mean the rest of my sequence & clips in Timeline (which was recorded in 1920 x 1080) will be downgraded to 1440 x 1080 when I render the whole sequence ?
Another thing, that is puzzling me, when I open up the same LiveType project file & see the project properties, it has changed to HDV 1440 x 1080 despite me changing & saving earlier to Apple 1080i50
    Any ideas ?
    Thanks

How does it appear in FCE?
    Is it OK?
It's probably something to do with HDV being 1440x1080 but playing as 1920x1080.
As long as it looks and works OK I wouldn't worry about it.

  • Quicktime Export Settings Inquiry - HD Movie to DV 720 X 480

    Hello All;
I am trying to export a HD 1920 X 1080 movie in FCP to Quicktime at 720 X 480 resolution. My first choices would be DV NTSC 48 KHZ or DV NTSC 48 KHZ Anamorphic. I want to be sure that I don't change the 16:9 aspect ratio, though. Could someone help me with what basic settings I would use to export to 720 X 480 and to assure the original 16 X 9 aspect ratio is maintained ? Thanks.
    Tim

720x480 is anamorphic if it's used for widescreen. The problem isn't in the export, but in the device that views and displays it. It has to be able to correctly detect the anamorphic flag.
