Why Does FCE capture DV audio as dual mono instead of stereo?
FCE captures DV audio as dual mono audio files instead of a single stereo audio file. You can see this if you "Show Movie Properties" in Quicktime. Files I captured in Premiere 6 years ago have a single stereo file. The problem is that the new dual mono format for DV won't play on the Final Cut Pro 3.04 installed on my wife's G4 (OS 10.4.11, Quicktime 7.6.2). FCP 3.04 doesn't see any audio for these dual mono files though it will play the video. It won't even create an audio waveform. But FCP 3.04 plays the older stereo audio clips captured in Premiere just fine. And if I export the dual mono files out of QT as a stereo file, then FCP 3.04 will play them just fine.
This lack of backward compatibility is quite frustrating. I can't seem to find a setting in FCE that will capture audio as a single stereo file. Why isn't NTSC DV always stereo? I guess maybe they had to go dual mono to facilitate surround sound panning in 5:1 or something. If nobody knows how to do this in FCE, I guess I'll just capture in FCP 3.04. I spent the better part of a day figuring out this hidden little tidbit. The lesson is don't try to go back!! We must always accelerate forward into newer versions and formats.
The problem is in your wife's machine. She is using a version of the OS and QuickTime that are much too new for the version of the software she's using. She really not not be using an OS newer than 10.4.10 and QT should 7.2 or earlier.
Yes. I was beginning to suspect that this was at the root cause of my issue. Thanks for the info. Frankly, my wife needs to buy a new Intel iMac so we'll both be able to work on the video I'm dumping. I had FCP 3 lying around from years ago and it's the only thing that might have worked on her old G4 AGP, so I thought I'd give it a try.

Might be corrupted preferences (.plist)
Open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following:
~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.image_Capture.plist
Click Go then move the com.apple.image_Capture.plist file to the Trash.
Restart your Mac and your scanner and try scanning an image. -

MOV files are audio and/or video content wrapped in an MOV file container. The first step in solving your problem would be to determine what codec components were used to create the source files and then determine if they are still supported by you current system configutation and/or conversion work flow. -

The share to DVD settings in Final Cut Pro X use the Dolby Digital settings which are stereo for DVDs. So this can’t be done directly in Final Cut Pro X.
The link below will explain the Dolby Digital parameters and options in Compressor 4. You may need to research a different DVD authoring software to achieve your desired result.

Sorry, but your intentions here aren't clear.
Do you have two mono signals on one stereo track, or are you talking about two separate mono tracks that should be stereo, and you want them as a single stereo track?
With the latter, open one file and copy it to the clipboard. Open the other file, and use Edit>Convert Sample Type to convert it to 'stereo' (really dual mono). Select just the side you want to replace, highlight it and hit Delete - this should leave your original file on one channel, and nothing on the other. Place the cursor at the start of the empty section and paste the clipboard contents here. Save the result. You now have a stereo file.
If you have a dual mono file and you want some stereo ambience on it, then have a look at SHEPPi. This does a remarkably good job of that on mono files!
There are several other ways of doing file combining - you could do it quite easily in Multitrack mode, and there are also some utilities around that will do it directly for you - although you could easily be forgiven for being completely unaware of them, because generally they are used for reorganising multi-channel Broadcast Wav files, and don't show up using a simple search term. -
Why does embedded video cause audio sync issues?

I have a question that is perhaps best answered by an Adobe developer or someone who knows the SWF file format and various audio/video standards fairly well. When one drags an FLV file into the library in flash authoring tool, a window appears. If you click "Embed FLV in SWF and play on timeline", an awful message appears, "WARNING: Embedded video is likely to cause audio synchronization issues...". My question is: why would there be any audio synchronization issue? Is this really just a bug/unimplemented feature? Or is there some fundamental shortcoming of current versions of the SWF file format that does not allow for the FLV audio/video signals to be properly encoded in the SWF file? Or is it that the flash player plays SWF and FLV data in fundamentally different ways and that even if the audio/video is perfected sync'd in the SWF file, the fact that it's a SWF file causes flash player to lose sync?
I'm guessing only a Flash developer could answer this (and probably not just any Flash developer!), so if there are any out there, please spare some wisdom for a poor lost SWF surfer.

From what I am reading, you are trying to use the audio that was in the original video-right? By that, I mean, you haven't added a voice over or music-just using the speaker's voice on the tape.
If so, you might want to try using something like a Fade Out or Fade In instead of one of the transitions that add or subtract to the length of the video

Or you could try extracting the audio from the movie so that you could edit it and sync it that way.

Why does my wife loose audio from me after 20 min.
I have no problems connecting to my wife with her new iPad3 when I call her with my iPod4 but I just installed FaceTime on my MacBook Pro and once I connect with her she looses audio from me after 20 minutes into the call. If I call her back she does not get any audio. When I call her 2 days later with my MacBook again it works for about the first 20 minutes and she looses audio again. I love my wife and want to talk to her for more then 20 minutes every 2 days and do it on a larger screen then my iPod any help please?
Seems this is the place for answers as the only responce from Apple is try the forum we don't support our work just sell it and leave the suport up to the users.

ThanksBatteries die, that is a fact of life if. Most batteries only last a year or two with heavy use. As you appear to use your battery a great deal, your battery will lose its life very quickly. Keep this in mind if you get a new battery (which I would recommend at this point) try not to use the battery bellow 15% charge as the battery loses the most life in the last 15% of the charge. Also, unless you really need to use the battery all the time, plug in. There is nothing wrong with using the battery for a few hours every day, but if you use it all the time, your cycle count will go up fast, and you'll go through batteries fast.

Capturing Audio is 2 Mono channels, not Stereo!!!
I am capturing HDV. in the clip settings of the log and capture I check the option to capture as audio, but the clip is still imported as 2 mono files!
How do I remedy this?

AdamI do not believe you can. There is no option in capture settings to store the audio as stereo interleaved. There is apparently no display option in FCP to show a stereo file on a single track either.
But then, why does it really matter? The channels are linked in the timeline anyway, so for all intents and purposes, they can be edited as one. Often it can be very useful to have them seperated. Is there something you're trying to achieve that you presently cannot?

Why does Preview save as PDF version 1.3 instead of version 1.7 sometimes?
I've noticed something very strange in Mountain Lion when saving a downloaded PDF in Preview. If I download a PDF to my downloads folder and open it in Preview and get info it says it's PDF version 1.7 and it's about 400 kb . If I then "save as" to my folder it saves it as PDF version 1.3 in a much smaller file save 82 kb.
Why is this happening when I use "save as" rather than just dragging and dropping it from my downloads folder to another folder where it keeps it as version 1.7 and 400 kb ?
Why would Preview save it as version 1.3 instead of the latest version of PDF - very odd?

I was sure, but I was wrong. Upon closer inspection, the "%PDF-1.3" you see in the PDF isn't the whole story. The actual version can be specified elsewhere. It seems Mavericks actually generates PDF version 1.4. Of course, that's not much difference, is it?
Generally, I think Apple is aiming for cross-platform support with the widest audience instead of all the advanced features that Adobe wants to throw in. Apple views PDF as legacy print technology. If you need more than what Apple provides, you can always buy Acrobat.
Here is an old marketing flyer from Adobe showing how much more you would get with Acrobat. It is from the Tiger era but you can see there is a whole lot that isn't implemented. But if you bought Acrobat, you would be in the position Apple doesn't want. You would create and send people PDF 1.7 files and they wouldn't be able to read them. What do you do? Tell them to buy Acrobat? It is a common theme here in Apple Support Communities whenever a new OS version arrives. People everywhere suddenly can't print, read PDFs, or do just about anything PDF related. That is because they had previously download Acrobat and it breaks with each OS update.

Why does my line-in audio port quit stop working while recording?
My set-up is a bit confusing, so I'll try and be very specific.
I record into Garageband via the following set-up:
Microphone(s) run into TASCAM 4-track -> RCA-to-Stereo Cable runs out of TASCAM into MacBook Pro via the single audio port.
This generally works fine for several hours, but the last 3 times I've had a recording session, the audio signal has dropped to virtually nil without any warning. At this point, even yelling into the microphone (with the TASCAM max-ing out) will only produce 1 volume bar in the "Line-In" system preference screen. At best, it sounds like a very quiet whisper.
My microphone is working (works while recording to tape) as does my cable (RCA - to - Stereo) when used in other situations. Any ideas as to why this is happening? Am I tripping some sort of internal line-in volume...protector? (Is that even a thing?) Or do I need a new audio port?funny how to one seems to have an answer for this, I just posted my own issue, audio in line port just stopped working after update.

Hi I am using a Korean IPS display PCBANK 27 Inch on my Macbook Pro Late 2011 with OSX Lion 10.3
I am currently using a Official Apple Displayport/Thunderbolt -> Dual Link DVI D Adapter.
When I use a windows 7 boot cd it powers up the monitor and it displays. When I use a Linux Live CD it boots the monitor up and displays at full resolution.
When I use Osx Lion 10.3 it does not even detect the display at all which quite odd.
Can anyone help me trouble shoot.
I went to options and screen settings and tried detect display it comes up with nothing :S I am thinking it has to do with APPLES ATI drivers? perhaps? I have a 6750 HD.
Anyone ?Above mentioned graphics card can only go as high as 2048 x 1536 where the 27" Cinema Display does 2560x1440 by native. Atlona's AT-DP400 will only pass the given resolution through the display and won't be able to reach to the maximum supported resolution and 1280x720 will become the next available/supported resolution by the monitor. Atlona makes another model of signal converter which also scales to the native resolution (2560x1440), Model#AT-HD620 which will work the best for your setup.

Camera light wont turn off on macbook
