Why does FF recommend disabling Hotspot shield?
Hi....I see the warnings from FF about Hotspot Shield. In the latest FF and the latest HSS, I don't see any stability problems (18 months ago, I wouldn't have said that). But then there is still this warning.
The page explaining warnings seems generic and covers a LOT of stuff.
Is there any particular problem these days with enabling the HSS extension/plugin?
Hotspot extension is added by the Hotspot Shield windows application as it is not from Mozilla.
For reading only on why they are blocked. Bugzilla is not a discussion forum like here. They change the default search engine and add Conduit junk. They also cause startup crashes in past which does not help.

Why does my iMessage disable randomly?
My iMessage continually disables itself causing me to attempt to reset the iMessage. The reset rarely works yet it eventually fixes the issue itself. Why does it so this? Does iOS 6.1 fix this issue?
No. I will reply to a message, and it will send as a SMS message. The person receiving it has iMessage on, but it still sends differently. Sometimes, they do not receive the message when it sends like that.

Single stack vs. Dual Stack - Why does SAP recommend single stack?
Hello SAP,
I am a business partner who specializes in infrastructure consulting for SAP solutions. The SAP Consultants I am working with recently have been recommending that customers install single stack systems. I would like to know why? Are there problems with dual stack systems? Is SAP changing things in a later release and they want customers to be prepared for the change?
From an infrastucture point of view this recommendation combined with SAP NetWeaver architecture will result in an explosion of SID names which leads to an explosion of application server instances and DBMS instances and an explosion of installed servers. I know it is possible to combine SIDs into a single DBMS using MCOD and to have multiple application servers in a single physical server, but there are issues with mulitple application server instances and MCOD use which make normal maintenance operations difficult.
I think it would be much better for customers to install dual stack systems and simply adjust the SAP profile parameters to disable one stack or the other. This way, you could still have 1 stack per application server instance and you would not be have to be creative with SAP SID names!!! Creating a DBMS instance or installing an additional server is not a simple nor economical proposition.
Regards,
ZazI am a business partner who specializes in infrastructure consulting for SAP solutions. The SAP Consultants I am working with recently have been recommending that customers install single stack systems. I would like to know why? Are there problems with dual stack systems?
The problems are:
- difficult to size and maintain - Java + ABAP will fight for resources (memory,CPU) and there´s not much one can do to tune if either ABAP or Java as dual stack instance on a single box is running nuts (for whatever reason).
- System copies via R3load - if you want to copy a huge system (let´s say ERP 6.0 + Java stack) you need to use sapinst + R3load to do the copy. Imagine if the system is 1 TB or bigger, this is very time consuming
- Upgrades are complicated - if you upgrade a dual stack system you need to run two PREPARES and two upgrades at the same time - there are sync points each upgrade wait for the other to finish --> difficult to plan in sense of runtimes and even more notes/preparation to do (a dual stack SolMan upgrade from 3.2 to 4.0 had almost 100 notes (technical!) and two upgrade preparation guides...)
- interdependencies - example: you run ERP + EP + BI-Java on one system. You upgrade your BI (which is on a different box) to a new support package. Since the BI-Java need to be in sync with the BI ABAP support package you need to upgrade the EP too - and since there´s a direct dependency (doublestack system) you will need to install support packages on your ERP. So you finally end up in having dependency chains that a total different system (BI) will force you to upgrade/patch your ERP. And if you have e. g. a CRM connected to the same EP you will need to patch that too...
Is SAP changing things in a later release and they want customers to be prepared for the change?
No - the possibility of having a dual stack installation will be still there.
I agree - MCOD is not a good solution for this problem.
There are 36 * 36 * 36 (minus a few reserved) names for SIDs- this should be enough - also for the biggest customers
Of course one could install both and disable the one you don´t need - but this won´t help in dependency thing. If you e. g. install a dual stack instance for CRM and disable the Java part, you can nicely run it. In case of an upgrade, you will need to upgrade the Java part too (see above) although you don´t use it. The upgrade will detect the doublestack and wait for the java instance to be upgraded too. Same is true vice versa. And believe me: you don´t want that
In fact it is better to separate - that´s at least our experience. The main no-go for such a configuration on our side was the dependency thing. Since they are there and you can´t do much about them we decided to have a 1:1 relationship for ABAP backend and Java "frontend". You will get more instances (and names and databases) but you can patch applications independently from each other. So an implementation of a BI patch won´t imply that you finally also patch your ERP production and other systems that connect to that portal.
There are virtualization techniques available to not need more boxes, you can consolidate them on one machine as if you were installing a dual stack so that is not really an issue. This depends, of course, on the platform and database you use (e. g. Oracle does not support production installations in VMWare). We use for our Java instances Solaris on Opteron (or Intel 64bit) and zones/containers and for the ABAP part we use Linux + Xen. Both virtualization methods come with the OS (so no additional $$$) and both are supported by SAP.
The propagated advantage of having a dual stack installation (shared memory access etc.) is so small that it doesn´t outban the additional complexity - which is definitely there.
I hope those arguments will help to understand SAPs (and the consultants) position - get back if you want more

Why does BEA recommend not using JMS-backed webservices?
Hi,
I guess the title says it all. In WebLogic 8.1, I noticed a couple of times
in the docs they say things like:
" BEA recommends that you implement your Web Service operation with only a
stateless session EJB or a Java class, and not with a JMS consumer or
producer. ".
Yet no explanation is given. Can anybody tell me why BEA doesn't recommend
them?
Thanks
JonCouple of reasons:
1. JAX-RPC or JSR-109 (J2EE 1.4) do not cover
JMS queues as backend component.
2. It is pretty easy to write a java class or SLSB that
looks up the queue and post data to it.
3. Queue based web services typically expose one
method in wsdl: post(Object data). Once the queue
is wrapped, the service can have explicit contract:
like sendMeDoc( Foo foo)

Why does Notes periodically disable itself in Mac iCloud settings?
I believe this problem began with 10.8.2, as I never noticed it on 10.8 or 10.8.1. Periodically (probably once every day or two), I'll notice Notes on my Mac is not in sync with my phone, and going to System Prefs > iCloud settings shows that Notes is diabled, while all other iCloud services remain checked and enabled.
So far, all I've done is to turn off iCloud entirely, reboot the Mac, then turn iCloud back on. This hasn't solved the problem.
Any other ideas?I wouldn't exactly call this "solved," but it appears it may just be a GUI problem: the Notes seem to be syncing just fine between OS X, iPhone and iPad, despite clearly having the box unchecked most of the time in OS X.

Why does itunes have me logging in multiple times to buy a song? I can access everything else fine, but now my account is disabled for some reason although my password was entered correctly... help
I've seen a couple of other threads over the last 10 minutes posting similar problems, so it appears to have affected other people as well - the poster on the first thread has now posted again saying that it's now working for him, so you could give it another try.
Edit : your reply appeared as I was attempting to post this -
On my MacBook Pro with Retina Display 15", that I purchased a few weeks ago, started coming up with the following message on my desktop:
"USB Devices Disabled Unplug the device using too much power to re-enable USB devices".
I unplugged the device and the message still keeps coming up.
This is what I have done so far to troubleshoot:
I shut down the laptop. When booting up I pressed the command+option+p+r at the same time. It comes up with a menu to reinstall OSX, Get help online, Run Disk Utility, etc. I choose the disk utility and repair the disk and then restarted.
The message keeps popping up and I can't seem to get rid of it. Why does the message keep popping up even though I don't have any devices hooked up to the laptop at all? Any help to reenable my usb ports and get rid of the messaage would be helpful.I talked to Apple Support and we at least stopped the bleeding, a little bit. These are the troubleshooting steps I did before I contacted Apple Support:
1. Reinstalled OSX
2. Restore the last known good Time Machine Backup.
This did not fix my issue, so I called Apple Support and they told me this:
1. Turn Power off.
2. Wait 15 seconds.
3. Plug in Magsafe adapter.
4. Wait 15 seconds.
5. Hold down the Shift+Option+Power Button for 20-30 seconds.
6. Turn Power back on.
Ok, this stopped the bleeding a little, but as soon as I plugged in a Apple USB Superdrive
and a Apple Mini Displayport to VGA Adapter. This "USB Devices Disabled" pop-up pops up like every 30 minutes now. At least, it is not constantly popping up after I close it, so I guess it will do for the temporary. Going to contact Apple support, later, though to see what else can be done. -
Why is the sound of my new ipad cutting out intermittently and what does Apple recommend to solve the problem in lieu of any updates? All of a sudden without changing any settings, the audio on my NEW ipad cuts in and out on applications/ games, keypad noise and lock sounds. The rocker button only seems to work while the sound is intermittently being heard before, after a few seconds of noise not doing anything when sound goes off.
This is highly frustrating as I've noticed others posting about such issues as far back as April. Anybody had the same thing happen to them? Is this likely software (ios6) or hardware issue? What are the solutions Apple???Apple has no physical stores of their own in Dubai, so unless you mean that you purchased from the online Apple Store for the UAE, you purchased from a dealer, who may or may not have been authorized. You can check the expiration date of the warranty on your iPad yourself by entering in the serial number here:
https://selfsolve.apple.com/agreementWarrantyDynamic.do
If it does indeed show the warranty has expired, then what you need to do from here will depend on who you purchased the iPad from and when you really did purchase it. Perhaps you actually purchased it in August and are just misremembering? Check your receipt. If you confirm that you did purchase within the last calendar year, tell us exactly where you got it and we can probably offer advice.

why does my ipad say user name disabled but i can use my user name to log into itunes and icloud on other devices
At this time there is no "solution." You'll simply have to wait the 90 days to re-enable iTunes Match.
For now here is my suggestion. In your User Account, in OS X, sign out of whatever iTunes Store account you are signed in with. Then sign in with your store account and leave it at that. Now sign out of your OS X User Account, sign into your wife's OS X User Account and sign into the iTunes Store with her Apple ID (if necessary sign out of the account first).
Now, you can go back to your OS X User Account and attempt to enable iTunes Match. You will probably get the "wait 90 days" message. If so leave it, mark your calendar, and wait for the 90 days to expire. You can try contacting iTunes Store support at <https://expresslane.apple.com> if you wish, but I really do not know how useful that will be.
Incidentally, you get the message to pay for the service when trying to enable it on your wife's Apple ID because the service has not been purchased using that Apple ID. iTunes Match is designed to be a single-user service that is never signed out of and is associated with one, and only one, Apple ID and a regional store. -

Why does DISABLED disable a SCREEN RECTANGLE instead of just the control?
I have solved this problem, but wanted to post it here for discussion.
LabVIEW 7.0, Windows.
I have a cluster: Item 0 is a custom enum control, item 1 is a string control.
Under certain conditions in my program, the string field must be disabled (and grayed out), because it's not applicable.
When I did that, I found that the enum was disabled as well. Actually, it would sometimes work if I hit the up-arrow just right, but the menu would never pop up. It worked find if the string was enabled.
The string field (item 1) had a label above the left side of it. The enum (item 0) was positioned immediately above the right side of it.
So why was item 0 disabled if item 1 was? I verified that the DISABLED property was NOT getting set to disabled (it reported 0 when I read it). There were no other property nodes to item 0.
As it turns out, it seems that when the string was disabled, there was a RECTANGLE on screen which was disabled. In spite of the fact that neither the string field not its label overlapped the enum, the fact that the enum was within the string's RECTANGLE was disabling it. The fact that the enum's up-arrow extended above this rectangle is what made it work if I hit it just right (the top 1 or two pixels, i guess). I found this out by moving the enum off to the right (out from under this rectangle.
My eventual solution was to go to the typedef for this cluster and move the enum IN FRONT of the string. I did not change the cluster order, just the physical front-to-back ordering. Now it works, with the enum back where I wanted it in the first place.
I have attached a VI which demonstrates this. I tested it on LV 7.1 / OSX and it still fails. Not sure if it's a bug, or intended behavior.

BugTest.vi 34 KBI would say this is most probably optimation. While you can of course escalate a user event message all the way down to any of the lowest controls only to see in most cases that the control did not care about this message for whatever reasons, this adds significant delay to the event handling. So having the top level control (cluster) do a quick and dirty rectangular check to see which control should receive the message if any and only passing it to that control speeds things up significantly.
Doing anything but a rectangular area check is again a performance problem as well as a never ending story of special cases which need to be handled just this tiny bit different to the rest, and any modification for a particular situation has often several undesired consequences for other cases.
