Why does FF use the IE Temporary Internet Files directory?

I have used Firefox exclusively as my browser for the past 6 months. Recently, I checked my "Temporary Internet Files" folder, where IE stores visited pages, and found it full and up to date, even though I had deleted everything in it when I started using FF. Why is Firefox storing data in here? Please note: On my computer, I have set up the "Temporary Internet Files" as the IE cach folder...IT IS NOT THE FF CACHE FOLDER. Thanks for any help.

Putting 'about:cache' into the navigation bar will show you some basic information about the cache.

  • Why does ADOBE use the Download manager when you download from thier website??

it always seems to cause problems. Are they not aware of that?
I know people will say to download elsewhere, but I think the average user is going to try to get it directly off the website
    Then if you go to
    http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/fp_distribution3.html
How the heck do you know which one to use? Like I have Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit with Vista SP2 and use only IE7 browser
so is it the msi??? or the exe???  I mean why can't they just make it easier??

Do these links to he flash player that bypass the Download manager, give the correct, secure, and most importantly full version of the Flash player?
and how does it appear when it downloads? Just that flash pop up that asks if you agree to terms, then the install button?
I may be going more this way, rather than the "normal" way. I always delete the download manager after I install the flash player anyway

  • TS3581 why does siri use the INTERNAL speaker of my iphone 5 and ipad 3 while connected to my car stereo, instead of my car's speakers like all other audio functions? Isn't that the whole point of Siri? I can't hear her at all. useless.

this is so frustrating.  I can't hear the responses over the road noise so instead, I must look at the screen and read her responses (Safety first, right).   Why just siri? all the other functions output audio through my car's speakers, but someone decided to make siri even MORE difficult to use??? Please apple, if this is a glitch, can you add it to the list and get siri working and fix this safety issue before someone dies?

I think apple doesn't support using siri while driving.
Cause it can distract you from driving.

  • Why does Photoshop inflate the size of PNG files?

    Hello,
I have a font bitmap which is greyscale, 8-bit, 512 x 512 pixels.  It takes up 18K bytes.
When I open it up in CS3 and save it back out under a different name, the file suddenly swells to 114K!
What is it doing there, and why?  Maybe some kind of compression in the original that is not being used by PS?
    Thanks
    Bob

Wow, that not only worked, but it made the file only 13K!  Of course it could have compressed it or something -- that Save for Web interface (in CS3 at least) is pretty confusing.  At least, it is hard to tell how to save an exact copy -- seems to want to do compression).
    Thanks

  • Why does Arch use .tar.gz as package files?

As opposed to a tar.gz file with a .pac extension much like a .deb from Debian.  I'm just curious...
Arch is a great Distro.  It has taken over my desktop... something that hasn't happened since 1999!

Nevermind... I found the official reason here:

  • Windows Disk Cleanup Temporary Internet Files for FireFox?

Hi guys. When I run Windows Disk Cleanup there is an option to delete 234MB of Temporary Internet Files. I don't use IE so are these FireFox temp files?

Plugins from MS like Windows Media Player and Silverlight use the IE Temporary Internet Files and Cookies folder, so you may be seeing files from those plugins. You can check those folder to see which files are in there to verify this.

  • I want to delete temporary internet files. Notice I did not say clear the cache. That does not work! How can I delete the temp files? Why did you take that feature away? VERY frustrating that you would do that!

I search for how to delete temp int files and keep coming up with the "clear cache" crap. That is not what I searched for. Clear cache does NOT delete the temp files. Why would you take that feature away??

The Windows temporary internet files folder isn't used directly by Firefox. Firefox uses its own cache folder and you can see its current usage on the about:cache page via the location bar.
If anything does show up in the temporary internet files folder then it is likely caused by using MS plugins like the Windows Media Player or Silverlight. You need to clear that folder via IE or the control panel (internet settings).

  • Empty Temporary Internet Files not working with IE9

Hey everyone.  I have an issue in my domain environment where the "Empty Temporary Internet files folder when browser is closed" is enabled but not actually working for pc's that have IE9.
I have configured this policy in both Computer Config and User Config on separate occasions to see if it would work but it just doesn't for users IE9.  My domain is still a Server 2003 domain and I manage group policy through the RSAT Tool Group Policy
Management on my machine.  All machines in my environment are Windows 7 x64 with IE9 except for a few with IE11.  The funny thing is the computers with IE11 (like myself) the GPO works great.  The temporary files get
flushed whenever I close my browser.  Unfortunately everyone with IE9 the settings say they are applied but they do not work.  I was wondering if it had something to do with the inetres.admx files on my pc since I use IE11.  Anyone have any
ideas why the policy would only work for IE11 browsers instead of all browsers?
The temporary IE folders are in the default locations and I noticed that the IE9 users can't navigate to the content.ie5 directory as well.  When entering content.ie5 in path they can get to it and when clicking on the random directory's it prompts you
    with a windows security warning.
Any help or guidance would be great. Thanks!

  • Location/directory used by JRE, for saving the temporary Internet files

    Hello sir,
I am working on a project( in JavaFX ) which takes the URL of a streaming FLV video( eg: http://sun.edgeboss.net/download/sun/media/1460825906/1460825906_11810873001_09c01923-00.flv ) as input and plays it in Media Player component.
I have successfully played the streaming video, by taking the aid of sample project, Media Box( http://javafx.com/samples/MediaBox/ ).
Now I am interested in knowing the location/directory, where these temporary Internet files will be downloaded to. Please let me know, the location/directory used by JRE( on both Windows and Linux ) for saving the temporary Internet files. Also let me know, if there is any possibility of changing that location/directory.
Thanks for any help, in advance.

You should avoid posting the same message multiple times...
By definition, streaming is supposed to play the received movie data on the fly, without intermediary file. Now, it depends on implementation, if that's real streaming, etc., so in practice there might be a temp file, or not.
But this temp location will be, obviously, highly dependent on the current system (even between WinXP and Win7, for example). You can find the answer experimentally, eg. on Windows by using Sysinternals' Process Monitor application (did that to find out where Storage files go), but it is brittle.
I doubt there is (an official) way to know that from within the JavaFX application...

  • Does Firefox save the temporary internet files as form of JPG or AVI?

    Hi
I really feel satisfaction about Firefox.
And I have a question that whether it remain or not temporary internet files as form of JPG, AVI etc.
I know that Firefox remains 'cache' when I surfing the internet with it.
You know, internet explorer remains temporary internet files as JPG file or AVI, MP4...
I'm just wondering that does Firefox remain 'caches' only.

One way or another Firefox tries to save quite a bit of information in order to run smoothly and help you. What problem do you have that you are trying to solve ?

I am trying to create a GPO that will allow me to specify 1024 (MB) for Disk space to use to go to IE, the General Tab, Settings,
In the box below there is a box fo Disk space to use.  There is a GPO for this under...
User configuration, windows settings, Internet Explorer Maintenance, (use preferred mode) Corporate Settings, Temporary Internet Files, (I select for the settings) Every visit to the page
Set amount of disk space to use (in MB)
It maxes out at 256 MB  - I tried to manually adjust this but it does not work....
I tried to adjust some equivalent registry entries for under content, cachelimit (decimal) 102400 but it did not work.
Any ideas how to adjust it so that it will allow to use 1024 MB?  I tried just about everything....

    Hi,
    Sorry for the late response.
Before going further, what’s the operating systems of our server and client?
As far as I know, we have to use customized .adm or .admx file to reset the maximum size of IE cache size.
If our server is Window Server 2003 and client is Windows XP, we can refer to the following thread for the customized .adm file.

    From the WhatsApp FAQ:
At this time, WhatsApp Web is available only for Android, Windows Phone 8.0 and 8.1, Nokia S60, Nokia S40 Single SIM EVO, BlackBerry and BB10 smartphones.
Unless and until WhatsApp decides to make the option available to iPhone users, it will not be.

Why can't I delete temporary internet files in Bootcamp/AppData folders. Message occurs that file cannot be deleted.

Are you trying to delete files from your Time Machine backup?  Don't do that!! If you have files/photos you wish to delete then delete them from iPhoto or whatever photo application you are using. They will be removed from the backup by the TimeMachine backup system. Your backup is not a simple file it is a time/event dependent organizational picture of your system sort of like a multilayered transparent collage, but if you start pulling random pieces out it will collapse the file system. • When I change size of icons or icon vs list display, why does it affect the whole computer?

When I change size of icons, or icon vs list display, why does it affect the whole computer? In some folders I want to see a list and others I want to see an icon and I don't need a large icon in all folders. I used to be able to set each folder separately in the old OS. How do I fix this?

I can hilight an item, go to the finder/file/getinfo but there is no box next to icon view.
I can go to view/options and adjust the icon size etc, but this applies to every folder in the whole computer. I need varied options in different folders, i.e., I want to view images as icons and text as text. I have to change it every time I open a folder. I used to be able to set it per folder in the old OS.
