Why does Final Cut Pro change my title's baseline after the first two titles when exporting a master file?

Hey Guys,
I want to use a Zoom title (Titles -> Build In/Out -> Zoom).  I only want the title, not a subtitle.  So I insert Zoom's everywhere, type in my stuff for Line 1, delete the contents of Line 2, format it (font, tracking, etc.).  Everything looks great in the Viewer.  I let it render, then export a Master – same as source.  I open the MOV, the first two titles are great.  Then every title thereafter looks like someone changed the position by 100 pixels south of its original location.
Here's what I've done to troubleshoot it:
Removed all Zoom's, inserted new ones, removed the contents of Line 2 and left Line 1 alone (i.e. it still reads "Title").  When I export, everything's fine.  The moment I change formatting or put in new copy in Line 1, same thing happens – every title changes position by 100 pixels down.
Downloaded Digital Rebellion's Preference Manager, trashed pref's/
I'm using a TTF with a bold type body only.  Figured I'd leave it at Gill Sans Bold.  Same thing happens as soon as I type something custom into Line 1.
I had a text style saved and removed it.  (Which wasn't easy.  Solution here.)
Has this ever happened to you?
Thanks!

Hey Jim,
Thanks for the follow-up.  Here are some more details:
OS - 10.8.2
FCP X - 10.0.7
I can't update either of these because of my Avid installation.
Something else I didn't mention – this happens in a 4K project.  Notice how a default Zoom title looks:
Lines 1 and 2 are almost stacked on top of each other.
Here's my title style:
Here's what the title looks after I apply the title style, modify Line 1, and remove the contents of Line 2:
And here's how it looks in the exported master file MOV:
Notice how it's pushed down?
Then I decided to make a 720p project.  No more title problems.
So if you have some 4K footage, Jim, give it a go.  Or if there's another 4K-er out there, try this and let me know.
Thanks!

  • HT5177 Why does Final Cut Pro X tell me mpg is supported, but wont recognize it when I try to import it from my files??!!

I am trying to import an mpg file and Final Cut Pro X wont recognize the file.. please help.
Final Cut Pro says it is a supported file, still wont recognize it!

Yeah depends on the source but generally MPG hasn't ever been supported in Final Cut Pro- as Tom says you want to convert it to ProRes elsewhere before bringing into FCP X.

I use Final Cut Pro X to make YouTube videos.  The sound is great when I watch the videos on certain computers, but muffled on others.  How do I fix this?

You don't. You can't control how other computers or browsers play back the footage.  The best you can do is export a master file that plays great on your computer.  What youTube does with it, or how other computers play it back is out of your hands.
Just like me with broadcast TV shows.  I deliver the most pristine version I can to the network. But then they convert it to a digital file that they then beam out to cable and satellite providers, who then compress it again to play on their systems. And then it arrives at grandma's house and plays on her TV. I have no control how my grandma receives the signal, nor how her TV is set up.  Unless I am nice and tweak things when I go visit. But I can't do this at every house that might want to watch my show.

Try searching for invisible files that are called ProKit, NSWindow, and combinations of those two. They should be in your Library or System folders, Maybe.
But the larger questions we must have answered:
Has FCP ever worked for you or ios this a new instalation, first time launch?
Did you add any new software to your system since the last successful launch of FCP?

  • Why does Final Cut Pro X cost $350 in Australia

when it costs US$299 in the USA and the Australian dollar is worth $1.06US dollars ?  Shouldn't Final Cut Pro X cost us $280 ??  A price discrepency such as this in a global economy MAY work (at least be partially explicable) with hardware, but I'm stuggling to understand how software delivered via the App Store has a $70 "Shipping Fee" attached !!!

Weirdly, part of the price shows that Apple has confidence of the relative strength of the Australian economy. They need to set a price that makes sense for the next few years. They obviously think that the exchange rate will change significantly within the next decade. They want to keep the price consistent over the next few versions, which might take us to 2016.
Sadly for your market, saying 'that's unfair' won't help. The markup in the UK vs. US (which requires as little customisation) was 25-40% for many years up until very recently. Apple will only reduce prices if they feel that a competitor will use a foreign market as a beachhead into their domestic market. That hasn't happened for the last 30 years, so I wouldn't hold my breath...

Looks as though nobody has any ideas and as you have not given any details of your Mac or FCP X workflow it's not surprising.
For a start, without knowing any details, you could try trashing the preferences with

  • Why does Final Cut Pro X speed up my video that I imported?

I have been having this problem off and on during my time using Final Cut since the summer of 2011 and it bugs me sometimes not know why the video always is retimed at a different speed once I import it to an event. I even tried to drag the file in and it still does the same thing. You might be asking "How do you know the video is faster?" Well, I record videos for my band and we do somewhat like music videos and we take shots of us playing our instruments while singing to the song. Anyways, what I do is try to sync up the song that we recorded to the video. But, this time once I tried it, the audio/video of the imported video was sped up compared to the song. I am very confused as to what to do. We reall need help because the deadline for the video is today and we need to have it ready. Thank you to anyone who replies and we hope that you can help us! Have a great day.

The sync function allows you to sync a piece of separate audio to a video file with a scratch audio track. It uses the waveforms of the sound to sync this up. It will not do any speed changes necessary though.
Multicam allows you to sync multiple takes or camera shots or angle together with a single auudio track. You can sync based on a number of different criteria.

P.S. What's the original audio sample rate of your master recording? The Nikon should be shooting in 48k and that's what your playback track should be as well.

  • Why is Final Cut Express adding 5 minutes of black to the end of my .dv export?  I've marked it out, there are no additional clips at the end, it's doing this consistantly.

I'm using Final Cut Express 4.0 and when I export to .dv it adds 5 minutes of black to the end of my export.  Any ideas on why this is happening?  I have it marked out and there are no additional clips at the end that it's trying to capture.

According to previous posts in this forum, Apple does not support FCE with Lion, no less Mountain Lion. Nonetheless some people report no problems using FCE with Lion, depending upon upgrade protocols from Leopard etc. You list FEC 4.0, but FCE has an update to 4.01 free download from software update.

  • Why does Final Cut Pro hang on launch trying to read an event on a SAN?

I've been going back and forth on a couple machines editing some video from a shared SAN, so I think that may have screwed something up. Has anyone encountered this? Is there anyway to get FCPX to just open (without having to eject the SAN?)

That's what we have, too.  Right now, metaSAN doesn't block users from adding the same SAN definition, so corruption can occur.  For now, we add different SAN definitions for each client.
You Add/Remove the San Definitions in the File Menu.
If you see the same definition on each machine, you are have the same defintion at each machine.  It usually looks like the name of the volume - then the folder you have assinged.  With SAN Definitions, you can assign it to any folder, not just the root level.

  • I have Video camera movies that are HD format.. I am doing editing work on them using Final Cut Pro, but using DV PAL format for the projects I am editing. When I then tried to copy my work done in FCP Project that's originally DV PAL , into a new FCP Pro

I have Video camera movies that are HD format.. I am doing editing work on them using Final Cut Pro, but using DV PAL format for the projects I am editing. When I then tried to copy my work done in FCP Project that's originally DV PAL , into a new FCP Project that is HD, and tried reconnect media with original HD movies (video), the sequence project got distorted for all the text, shapes used and all.. everything changed its orientation and scale.. Is there a way by which I can preserve my work done on DV PAL and switch it preserving its proportions, scale and orientation, but on a HD project sequence?? Appreciate your help and advice..

Yes.  A couple of ways that might work.
    First Way
What you need to do is load one of your hd clips in the viewer and edit into a new HD sequence.  Does it display correctionly?
OK, select the clip in the hd timeline and copy (command-c).  Now go to the HD sequence with the material that's distorted.  Select all (command-a) and paste attributes (option-v) and choose basic motion and distort.  That should maek things work.  What won't work is anything that you've adjusted as far as basic motion or distort in your PAL sequence.  That I'm pretty sure you'll have to redo.
    Second Way.
Choose your original PAL sequence and do a Media Manage changing the sequence preset to the appropriate HD paramenters with the media offline.  You then should be able to reconnect these clips with your original HD media.

  • Why does final cut x not recognize the sharp PN- K321 monitor ( European version ) as output video monitor and premiere it? Working with two cinema display and PN- K321 and I can not preview the output video at 4K for DisplayPort, whereas with premie

Why does final cut x not recognize the sharp PN- K321 monitor ( European version ) as output video monitor, and premiere yes?
Working with two cinema display and PN- K321 and I can not preview the output video at 4K by DisplayPort, whereas with premiere and after effects I have no problems

Look, you can build an HD DVD with an SD movie, just as you can build an SD DVD with an HD movie. This is not a bug, it is most likely user error. Apple will not be addressing it.
Just start over, and ensure you are building an SD DVD by bringing up the inspector for the disc (click on the background in the Graphical tab).
Make sure SD DVD is selected:
(If you do the same thing on your ill fated project, you'll see that HD DVD is selected)
Build your DVD and you'll be fine.
    Patrick
P.S. You will need to google HD DVD and Blu-Ray if you want to understand the difference between the formats. The reason that DVDSP included HD DVD was that its format was similar to SD DVD's. Blu-Ray is something else entirely.

  • Why is Final Cut Pro X running so slow?

Hi! I have a Mid 2012 Macbook Pro (Version OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.3, Processor 2.5 GHz Intel Core i5, Memory 4GB 1600 MHz DDR3) and I use Final Cut Pro X on my computer, however after once I downloaded its software onto my harddrive, Final Cut Pro X runs incredibly slow. I can't even complete a 2 minute project without getting frusrated by its lack of speed. I was looking up on several discussions referring to Final Cut Pro X's lack of speed and I noticed the computer's memory usually has something to do with it. I have 4GB of memory in use, and if i purchased a 16GB memory slot, would that solve my problem with Final Cut? I was hoping it'd be a quick fix because I use Final Cut faithfully in my school's editing lab and would love for it to work on my Macbook Pro! c:

FCPX is pretty fast, although obviously your experience wouldn't support that statement.
Performance does depend a lot on hardware, and although your machine is not the beefiest (particularly with the integrated GPU), it should out-perform my 3 year old MBP.
Yes, more RAM would help. Going to 12 GB, you'll see a big difference. If you can go to 16 GB, all the better.
However, your current configuration shouldn't be unacceptably slow. Check your HD and make sure you have at least 25% free space. With only 4 GB of RAM, it's important not to have a lot of other processes active the same time. Use Activity Monitor to check on free memory and page-outs..
Also, you will have  better results if your events and projects are on a fast external drive (Thunderbolt would be best, but the selection is limited. Otherwise, there are Tb to Firewire adaptors you can try and of course, there is USB3.
    Good luck,
    Russ

  • How does final cut pro x export a file if it has not finished rendering?

How does final cut pro x export a file if it has not finished rendering?
So today I finished a project: Share >Export > as a pro res 422 and I'm now burning with iDVD as we speak. FCPX is still doing background rendering! I hope my DVD turns out ok....

You don't need to render before export.
    Rendering is for playback.
If your project plays OK from the storyline, you can safely turn off rendering in preferences.
