Why does firefox 4 move at least twice as slow as chrome and IE9

Seriously. Stopped using firefox last fall because of speed issues.(previously my favorite browser). Now I've placed all 3 browsers on the screen and loaded several different bookmarks. Chome hit the site in seconds, fully loaded. IE9 just behind(milliseconds) But FIREFOX(oh my dear firefox.....) at least 2-5 TIMES as long.

When saving an image, why does Firefox download it again, although it is already downloaded and displayed?

If you right click an image on a website and choose "save image", it will be downloaded again. It is already in the browser cache though. There are addons which let you pick it from the cache.
Why doesn't Firefox just save the cached image and instead downloads it again? There seems to be no obvious rationale to do it like that (and lots to use the cached version).

I'm not looking for workarounds. I would like to know (preferably from someone at Mozilla) why the browser works this way and if they are going to change it.

Why does Firefox require a Plug In for Windows Media 11 and it doesn't exist for Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit

I wanted to listen to an Internet Radio Station and every time I clicked the listen now button on that site, Firefox tells me a Plug In is required for Window Media Player 11 so I follow the link to be told it is a manual download. When I get to the download site, I cannot find a Plug In download that is suitable to Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit so, I cannot listen to the radio station I want too and would like to know if there are any other options.

You can use the new WMP plugin for XP/Vista as well on Windows 7 with WMP 11.

Why does firefox put hotmail on the edge of the page and keep losing installed addons?

I have recently been trying out various addons and then deleting those I found unsatisfactory. I finally just kept Adblock Plus. I have also adjusted the settings for Mozilla. As a consequence Mozilla keeps putting my hotmail on the lefthand edge of the page making it impossible to view.
Also the Addon disappears as if I have reset Mozilla. This morning it opened as I had set it . Then later it once again did as I have mentioned. I look forward to your suggestions, yours PPPE

I know Adblock is not active and despite so called successful installation it remains inactive.
Hotmail and any other site uses one third of the page with the remaining space used by the Mozilla home page.
Settings are default settings as set by resetting Mozilla.
I didn't realize I was impacting on the display options.
I've tried reset several times and still have the same result.

Why does firefox have to beg for money, like winos on the street ? If I had the money to donate, I gladly would, but I'm disabled on a fixed income and cannot afford to give money to anyone. I ran my own websites a few times, and never once begged for money to pay for my websites. Do you think everyone just sits back on their stack of cash, watching for any vultures that come around ? I've used firefox for 10 years, but if I'm no longer wanted, I will leave. Should I skip a few meals so I can send you 10 dollars, or cancel my doctor's visit for next week ? Maybe I could rake some yards in the neighborhood and make some extra money ? Wait, I can't walk but about 5 minutes, darn ! I had already dropped firefox for this very reason, and I thought the begging would be over, but it's still here ! Even microsoft and google recommend firefox ! First off they are not even pop ups....your crap blocks everything and don't save user names &/or passwords when you have it checked. Also in your tutorials about solving this issue says it has the word "OPTION" .......no, it never says option to allow you to bypass it and etc. Only thing is says is "ALLOW" . That would be nice , but the problem is it will not allow it from then on. It only allows it right then and then you have to refresh...after that to open again it blocks it again.....HOW STUPID?!!!!!

Are you using "Clear history when Firefox closes"?
In case you are using "Clear history when Firefox closes":

It's right at an hour (consistently), but the computer goes to sleep prior to that. It's as if iTunes goes to sleep. Also, it wasn't always this way. Originally, the movies played through without interruption. At some point, I guess a setting was changed, and now I only get an hour. Also. My energy settings are set to go to sleep at 10 minutes.

Suddenly all my tabs closed. Then Windows told me I had a gazillion infections. The main problem with malware is that it uses the installation to proliferate by contacting hostile servers to download more of the same rogue code.
Firefox doesn't have the option to "Run" a file. You can only "Save File" or "Cancel". If you downloaded it with IE8, then yes, you can run it, but that's not what I wanted you to do.
What you should do now is to disable System Restore. You can open System Properties by hitting the Windows logo key and Pause/Break key together. Then click the "System Restore" tab. Then checkmark the box which says "''Turn off System Restore on all drives''". Reboot to clear its contents. System Restore unfortunately makes a backup of all executables which includes viruses so that when you reboot without deleting them first, System Restore reinstates them again.
After you complete that step, run Avast and Malwarebytes again to make sure the system is clean.
Then go to the Windows Update site (link on your start menu) and install the missing patches which enabled your machine to become infected in the first place.
Once the system is clean, repeat step one to download Firefox again, but please do not run the file. If you don't see the option to "Save File", cancel the download, but it should be there. Run the file after you download it to the desktop.

Why does firefox show up as a plugin on volume mixer? After updating a flash plugin into firefox (when it had requested me to update it), it no longer shows up as firefox in volume mixer. It now shows up as some plugin icon. I really don't understand this, and wish it to be the firefox icon again. What is going on and what happened? It names itself "Plugin Container For Firefox" What does that mean? It has been this way ever since, and nothing I have done has fixed this. Restarting, refreshing, reinstalling, clearing cache, etc. Can anyone think of something please? :(

Just upgraded to Firefox 18 (windows 7 desktop). Why does Firefox change layouts/settings without asking the user if he wants it or not???
I am getting sick of those changes. I want to have at the google main page the options (as before) to search in all languages, or pages from a certain language or pages in a certain language (of course depening of the google address; f.i. at google.de for german languages, google.fr for french languages etc).
In the latest Firefox 17 it was working as I wanted and described before: when I visited www.google.de/firefox of www.google.fr/firefox. Now those 3 options (under the search bar) are gone and I do not want to operate by clicking on the advanced search button. Those things should be visible under the search bar again.
Also my STARTPAGE was GONE/DELETED after the update !!! Grrrrr.... Updating is OK but mozilla should not change user configured items !!!!!!!
The above described problem has nothing to do with the google website.

By the way, do Firefox and IE use the same proxy settings? You can view Firefox's here:

Open the system menu via Alt+Space and see if you can resize that window.<br />
If that works then close Firefox (File > Exit/Quit) to save that setting.

I am also having this problem. When trying to reboot, I get an endless cycle of the BIOS screen, then "MACHINE ERROR", then back. Running the same dmesg command as snoxu results in a similar error message. I am forced to shutdown by holding the power button. Upon rebooting, I get an error message that all extensions have been turned off (using Gnome Shell). Then I have to logout and login.
Shutting down and then restarting works fine.
