Why does firefox close randomly? (restore session)

I'll just be browsing the internet or just have firefox open & it will just close everything, no matter what im doing the entire browser will close. No error message comes up, No "firefox isnt responding" message, No script error message, nothing. It just closes.
When I go to re-open it, it says: "Well this is embarrassing. Firefox is having trouble recovering your windows and tabs. This is usually caused by a recently opened web page.". This happens randomly through my time using the internet. I have the latest version of firefox and adobe flash. Whats going on?

There is only one Adobe Flash Player, but there are two Shockwave for Director plugins showing (do not confuse the two).
# Adobe Shockwave for Director Netscape plug-in, version 12.0.6.147
# Adobe Shockwave for Director Netscape plug-in, version 12.0.4.144
*https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Using+the+Shockwave+plugin+with+Firefox
The Shockwave for Director plugin is hardly used these days (possibly only with some games on specific online game sites), so there is no need to have this plugin installed and enabled.

  • Does firefox create multiple restore sessions and save them?

Sometimes my computer crashes twice in a row, or things happen similar to this. When this happens, the "Restore Session" is not available on the history dropdown menu. Why is that? Is there a way to make this happen? No way can I go through the total history - thousands of websites and some don't say what they are when looking at the URL or title. I don't want to save all the time - this is a basic function that could easily be done automatically.
Is there a solution to this?

Firefox should not be crashing, if t is maybe that is something to investigate.
Firefox does try to save Restore Sessions, but if you close down incorrectly or crash frequently they are going to get messed up.
Always try to close correctly, which on an XP will be by using the File option (Newer Windows sytems have the quit option under the new Firefox Button)

  • Why does firefox only occasionally restore tabs?

I love firefox, but may have to return to chrome. Chrome restored my tabs everytime without fail, where as firefox does so occaisonally when shut down properly and never does if the computer restarts itself or some type of improper closing occurs. Why is this? Is there an addon to make firefox remember tabs?

The feature to restore your previous session is fragile. For example, if the Flash player updates as it did this week, a page will launch in Firefox. If you close Firefox without using Restore Previous Session, you just replaced your last session with the Adobe page. Oh NO!!!
There is an add-on to save more sessions and have better control over them. I haven't tried it myself.

  • Why does firefox "close" when I close the window but the process doesn't shutdown even with the upgrades since problem was reported.since i had updated to FF25

Frequently after I have been viewing numerous sites on firefox, when I close down the last window and try to reopen firefox, I am told that the program is already running and needs to be shut down. Using Task Manager is not useful, since task manager doesn't show the program as up and running. The only way to get the program to close so it can be used for a different subject is to reboot the computer. This is happening 10 - 12 times a week now, and gradually getting worse. This closes out everything I have open, making it necessary to save all opened files BEFORE I reboot, and then going back to reopen all of them. None of the other questions I've seem point to this particular quirk in the problem.

This is not a cure but will make it easier if Firefox locks up.

  • My question is why does firefox close when I click another window off? I have a new window come up so I have two, but when I click one off it closes all of them.

I usually have more than one tabs up and ready when I'm searching the web. But when I look at my mail or when a new window is opened if I click the "X" all of my windows are closed. What could be the problem?

  • Why does firefox close every time I try to send email with Hot mail and I have no other problems?

It looks like other people are having the same problem with Hotmail from the posts in the Hot mail forum. They suggested I contact support for my browser. I thought Firefox was the problem, I uninstalled it and installed the newest version. CC cleaner is used every time my computer reboots and Firefox is set to remove history each time it restarts. I defrag and shred free space weekly. My computer has no other issues whether on line or off. The problem of Hot mail crashing my browser/s started over a week ago. I am able to access my account/read/ click on links/delete/clear spam folder . . . . but the instant I click on reply, new, compose, (?) any browser will crash within 20 seconds. There have been no recent changes to my computer BEFORE Hotmail began crashing my browser/s. I have had {removed email address} for many years and this is the first time I have seen this happen. I do not receive error messages, it simply closes my browser. Firefox is my primary default browser. As I said Firefox was re-installed AFTER this started happening. I have 3 gmail accounts , they all work fine. I have too many contacts in my Hotmail account to open a new account with another provider. This is my personal email not business. It look as if a lot of people are having this same issue with Firefox?!?

  • Why does Firefox keep randomly crashing?

For the past couple of days, Firefox will just randomly crash on me when I'm browsing the Internet. There doesn't seem to be any pattern to the crashes. It may happen if I'm on Facebook or watching a YouTube clip. It can happen if I've been on Firefox for 2 hours or 20 minutes, though lately they seem to be happening sooner. Sometimes I'll get the "Firefox has stopped working" dialogue box, but most of the times it just shows loads the Mozilla Crash Report. I was able to get problem details the last time I got the "stopped working" dialogue box:
    Problem signature:
    Problem Event Name: APPCRASH
    Application Name: firefox.exe
    Application Version: 24.0.0.5001
    Application Timestamp: 522fd29f
    Fault Module Name: RPCRT4.dll

    Exception Offset: 0005cf69
    OS Version: 6.1.7601.2.1.0.768.3

    Additional Information 3: f69e
    Additional Information 4: f69e60c920b901ae1c3125ca811aee8f
Unfortunately, I don't really know how to read that information and I don't actually know if it is useful. It's all very frustrating because there doesn't seem to be any reason for these crashes. They just happen. Any help in fixing this problem would be greatly appreciated.

I should add, I've re-downloaded Firefox, but that doesn't look like it has helped any. Still get seemingly inexplicable crashes.

  • Why does Firefox always block any link I try to open going to a web page when I don't have pop up blocker on?

Why does Firefox always block any link I try to open going to a web page when I don't have pop up blocker on? First off they are not even pop ups....your crap blocks everything and don't save user names &/or passwords when you have it checked. Also in your tutorials about solving this issue says it has the word "OPTION" .......no, it never says option to allow you to bypass it and etc. Only thing is says is "ALLOW" . That would be nice , but the problem is it will not allow it from then on. It only allows it right then and then you have to refresh...after that to open again it blocks it again.....HOW STUPID?!!!!!
It always say that this is preventing this page from automatically redirecting to another page. THIS IS WHAT I AM TRYING TO DO...GO TO ANOTHER PAGE........I DON'T NEED YOUr BROWSERS PERMISSION TO DO THAT. THAT IS WHAT A *%#$&*(&*%$$%% BROWSER IS FOR TO GO TO OTHER PAGES......THEY ARE NOT POP UPS!!!!!
YOU STUPID BROWSER ACTUALLY BLOCKS EVERYTHING AND THAT SUX!!!
    HELP!!

Are you using "Clear history when Firefox closes"?
In case you are using "Clear history when Firefox closes":
    *do not clear the Cookies
*do not clear the Site Preferences
*Tools > Options > Privacy > Firefox will: "Use custom settings for history": [X] "Clear history when Firefox closes" > Settings
    *https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Clear+Recent+History
Note that clearing "Site Preferences" clears all exceptions for cookies, images, pop-up windows, software installation, and passwords.
Clearing cookies will remove all specified (selected) cookies including cookies with an allow exception that you want to keep.
Let all cookies expire when you close Firefox.
    *Firefox/Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: Keep until: I close Firefox
You can choose to keep third-party cookies from visited sites if necessary.
Create a cookie 'allow' exception for cookies that you want to keep.
    *Firefox/Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: Exceptions

  • Why does Firefox have to make it so difficult to get answers--I am not going to be able to check the website to see what anyone might reply to my question on crashing?

I have no way of checking to see if anyone answers this. Why does Firefox have to make it so difficult?
What does this means: DLL C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\MOZCRT19.dll is not a valid Windows image. Please check this against your installation diskette.
Suddenly all my tabs closed. Then Windows told me I had a gazillion infections. Then a tiny strip appeared saying it was Firefox and these little blocks started to fill up the little strip as if it were downloading something--there was no way to cancel this so I cut the power. Now when I try to use the Firefox icon, I get the message above.
Am I supposed to remove the old Firefox stuff and start from scratch? I am stuck using Internet Explorer.
I went to the Firefox website and tried to download it again, but McAffee jumped in and said there is something wrong with Firefox and I should register with them that I am downloading Firefox (I do not have McAffee). Then I got a security warning saying Firefox is not safe.
I am completely at a loss as to what to do next, since I don't understand any of this mumbojumbo.

Here's the story on one of your infections, namely JS:Redirector-EH[Trj]: http://www.microsoft.com/security/portal/Threat/Encyclopedia/Entry.aspx?Name=Trojan%3aJS%2fRedirector.H
The main problem with malware is that it uses the installation to proliferate by contacting hostile servers to download more of the same rogue code.
Firefox doesn't have the option to "Run" a file. You can only "Save File" or "Cancel". If you downloaded it with IE8, then yes, you can run it, but that's not what I wanted you to do.
What you should do now is to disable System Restore. You can open System Properties by hitting the Windows logo key and Pause/Break key together. Then click the "System Restore" tab. Then checkmark the box which says "''Turn off System Restore on all drives''". Reboot to clear its contents. System Restore unfortunately makes a backup of all executables which includes viruses so that when you reboot without deleting them first, System Restore reinstates them again.
After you complete that step, run Avast and Malwarebytes again to make sure the system is clean.
Then go to the Windows Update site (link on your start menu) and install the missing patches which enabled your machine to become infected in the first place.
Once the system is clean, repeat step one to download Firefox again, but please do not run the file. If you don't see the option to "Save File", cancel the download, but it should be there. You can use this direct download link to download FF4.0.1 [http://www.mozilla.com/products/download.html?product=firefox-4.0.1&os=win&lang=en-US Download Firefox 4.0.1]
Run the file after you download it to the desktop.

Why does FireFox open as a very small box in the top l/h corner and i have to resize it every time this only occurs on the initial opening up of F/Fx after boot-up

Open the system menu via Alt+Space and see if you can resize that window.<br />
If that works then close Firefox (File > Exit/Quit) to save that setting.
