Why does Firefox give me warnings on certain websited that the connection is untrusted, because the certificate has expired?

This happens on mozilla.com too, so it's a tad strange. Other major sites ask me to confirm an exception. Sites like softpedia, microsoft etc.

If that happens again, and you are using a desktop PC, the little "coin" battery on the motherboard is probably on its' last legs and needs to be replaced.

  • Why does firefox give an update an then not allow it to install

A new update or add-on called screen shot so i installed then it said "firefox has blocked this" and had the "allow" button; my question is why do they give you an up date or add on and then don't allow it?
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
    == I clicked install updates

Not cool. I actually liked Firefox until this kind of thing started. Seems like they're going the way of Microsoft and trying to ram updates down your throat whether you like it or not. I thought Mozilla was all about giving the user a lot of control over Firefox???... Not everyone has unlimited bandwidth to waste, and not everyone wants the updates.
    Not cool Mozilla, not cool.
Is there any official suggestion/comment box where I can express my discontent of this function?

  • Why does Firefox 9.01 use such excessive memory that my a/v program issues a warning? This problem is going to run Firefox users to another browser.

It makes no sense for so much memory to be used. This has been my favorite browser, but this gives me second thoughts. I see that I'm not the only one. 600+MB just to view my home page? I must close browser to regain memory, but it is sucked right back out in minutes. This is a serious problem when you consider that it will cause people to shy away from Firefox. I would rather see you succeed rather than fall to IE or Chrome.

600+ MB does sound like a lot, but that depends on what you are using as your homepage, and how much of that 600 is being used by the plugin container - Flash and other plugins. Also, using that amount might have to do with how much RAM you have installed - the more RAM installed and the more Firefox allows itself to use. • WHY does Firefox repeatedly open multiple copies of tabs that are already open??? Yesterday I cleared the history, removed the program & reinstalled. Didn't help. Some tabs are ones I had months ago but don't need now. They keep appearing. HELP, please!

The problem started several months ago, after I downloaded a new version of the program. Two updates ago, I think. The repeat tabs open multiple times during the day. Sometimes they appear hours after I've closed them--sometimes just minutes later.

It is possible that there is a problem with the files sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.
Delete the files sessionstore.js [2] and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.
    * Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Open Containing Folder
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox
If you see files sessionstore-##.js with a number in the left part of the name like sessionstore-1.js then delete those as well.<br />
Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and open and closed (undo) tabs to get lost, so you will have to create them again (make a note or bookmark them).

  • Why does Firefox 32.0 keep prompting me to update, then failing to get past the "connecting to update server" when I click the "update now" button?

Happens with annoying frequency. The fresh install of 32.0 is barely a month old but this has been happening since a few days afterwards. I have let the update window run for up to 20 minutes. Nothing happened, ever. Apparently it never actually connects. Nor will it update automagically when I click on the "About" line on the Firefox menu bar dropdown.

If there are problems with updating or with the permissions then best is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.
Download a new copy of the Firefox application and save the disk image file to the desktop
    *Firefox 32.0.3: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html
*Trash the current Firefox application (open the Applications folder in the Finder and drag the Firefox application to the Trash) to do a clean (re)install
*Install the new version that you have downloaded
    *https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Installing+Firefox+on+Mac
Your personal data is stored elsewhere in the Firefox profile folder, so you won't lose your bookmarks and other personal data when you uninstall and (re)install Firefox.

  • Why does firefox give out the wrong address for me, it usually says I'm around LA, I live in Hemet

I've noticed some web sites show my address around LA or up in northern Ca.. I live in Hemet, Ca. I cannot find anywhere where it is not my real address. This is getting very frustrating, when I want to look in my area for deals and it asks if I want to show my location, I say yes and it shows a map of usually around LA somewhere. Today I called a place I ordered something from and they said I ordered it in Pleasanton (where ever that is) How does that work. I've had this problem on another site. When it asks do I want to show my location it shows cities around LA. I'm in the same place for the last 4 years. Please help me. Where is it that it;s getting this info? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Sam Scarcello

This is not a Firefox settings, but rather one of these two things:
*Your DNS settings on your computer are configured to show you in LA
*Your router is setup with the incorrect area
In either case, please contact a local IT technician.

  • Why does Firefox upgrade version 3.6.13 state that it works with all current addons, it will not work with Roboform!

Back on Dec 23 I ask if it was possible, after upgrading to version 3.6.13, could I go back to the version I had been using. A very helpful person, "Buddahfan", instructed me how to accomplish this. I have downloaded version 3.5.16, as this is what I think I had before. Anyway, my reason for not wanting 3.6.13 is it will not accept a VERY helpful add-on I have come to use daily, Roboform. Problem is the advertisement for the new version states it will work with all add-ons and it obviously does not. What benefits am I losing by sticking with 3.5.16 after I have downloaded all updates?

All you needed to do for 3.6.13 was to install the latest Roboform adapter for Firefox from here: <br />

  • Why does Firefox still tell me it's blocking Java Deployment Toolkit after I did the update?

On the "Mozilla - Check Your Plugins" webpage, I was told that the " Java Deployment Toolkit" was vulnerable. So I did the update. But afterwards I was still told the same problem. Why? And should I care?
    Please see the attached screenshot.
The funny thing is... I visited two sites that use Java, one being Java.com, but I did not see the black banner message of blocking.

The Java Deployment Toolkit may be the latest version, but Oracle still hasn't fixed the security faults with that plugin; so Mozilla still has it on the Blocklist and disables it so far as to require the user to use "Ask to Activate". ''A "soft-block" - usable if needed, but needs user-action per implementation''.
Specifically, do you have a program on your PC that actually needs that Deployment Toolkit?
Or is your concern merely that it is disabled after updating Java?
Very few consumer applications even use that Deployment Toolkit, which is intended for people who develop Java applications or who use applications such as various Oracle programs in the workplace.
Going back to before Oracle bought out Sun Systems Java in 2010, that Deployment Toolkit wasn't being installed with the Java Runtime Environment for users. Java developers had to install a separate Developers Toolkit to get that Plugin - the SDK program had it.

  • Why does Firefox not work here in China anymore, since January of 2015?

I have used Firefox for years, as the fastest and most reliable browser for me, esp in China... not anymore! Last month (unknown to me) a hijacker called Vosteran took over my Firefox browser. I finally realized it and got it cleaned up using Malwarebytes anti-malware, and downloaded a new Firefox... now SAME problem exists, even with Vosteran removed!
Firefox will not allow me into ANY normal sites, saying they don't have the proper security code. This includes my Yahoo front page, email account, ESPN and other common sites that are certainly NOT dangerous. So, WHY does Firefox not work anymore? It is useless to me here in China the way it works now.

hello rickinchina, first please make sure that the '''date, time & timezone''' are set correctly on your system and that firefox is set to directly connect to the internet (that's the "'''no proxy'''" setting in the firefox ''menu ≡ > options > advanced > network > connection - settings...'').
if this doesn't solve the issue (or it is already set properly), a possible solution depends on different factors:
    * what is the '''error code''' shown under ''technical details'' on the error page?
in case the error code equals ''sec_error_unknown_issuer'', please attempt to add an exception on the bottom of the error page (but don't do it for real) and inspect the certificate (see the screenshot attached for instructions):
    * which '''issuer information''' does the certificate contain?
please report back with those two pieces of information. thank you!

  • Why does FireFox change layout/settings during upgrades without asking ?

Just upgraded to Firefox 18 (windows 7 desktop). Why does Firefox change layouts/settings without asking the user if he wants it or not???
I am getting sick of those changes. I want to have at the google main page the options (as before) to search in all languages, or pages from a certain language or pages in a certain language (of course depening of the google address; f.i. at google.de for german languages, google.fr for french languages etc).
In the latest Firefox 17 it was working as I wanted and described before: when I visited www.google.de/firefox of www.google.fr/firefox. Now those 3 options (under the search bar) are gone and I do not want to operate by clicking on the advanced search button. Those things should be visible under the search bar again.
Also my STARTPAGE was GONE/DELETED after the update !!! Grrrrr.... Updating is OK but mozilla should not change user configured items !!!!!!!
The above described problem has nothing to do with the google website.

By the way, do Firefox and IE use the same proxy settings? You can view Firefox's here:
orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced > "Network" mini-tab > "Settings" button
The default is "Use system proxy settings".
