Why does Firefox insist on popups to upgrade everytime I use it ?

I tried using Firefox version 24 and it was not to my liking so I reinstalled Firefox 21 and now I get a pop up prompt asking me if I want to upgrade everytime I use Firefox. If I answer NO, it continues on and on and on whereas ONCE should be enough to put an end to this nonsense.
I think Mozilla should stop offering up new versions every month as its becoming much like Windows which is an operating system stuck in beta format with updates, fixes, patches and well, it sucks as well.
I don't want to be a test pilot and Windows 7 has had more than 150 updates, fixes, patches and platforms which leaves just as many issues as it always had. Small wonder Mac and Linux is sending Windows 8 back to the trash can.

It's my understanding that Firefox typically won't prompt you to update more than once a day, or perhaps once per session. Are you closing all Firefox windows in between warnings? You might try keeping a window open at all times to avoid starting a new session and see whether that helps.
If you get warnings more often than once per session, it may be a website or add-on trying to drive you to a malware download with insistent dialogs. Try disabling ALL nonessential or unrecognized add-ons on these two tabs:
orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons > Plugins category 
orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons > Extensions category
Usually a link will appear above a disabled extension to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the add-ons page and click the link as the last step.
But... Firefox 21 is not secure; Mozilla discloses [https://www.mozilla.org/security/known-vulnerabilities/firefox.html security flaws] after each new release. What parts of Firefox 24 didn't you like? Since the discussion may benefit you and other users, please let us know so we can suggest solutions or workarounds.

Why does FireFox change layout/settings during upgrades without asking ?

Just upgraded to Firefox 18 (windows 7 desktop). Why does Firefox change layouts/settings without asking the user if he wants it or not???
I am getting sick of those changes. I want to have at the google main page the options (as before) to search in all languages, or pages from a certain language or pages in a certain language (of course depening of the google address; f.i. at google.de for german languages, google.fr for french languages etc).
In the latest Firefox 17 it was working as I wanted and described before: when I visited www.google.de/firefox of www.google.fr/firefox. Now those 3 options (under the search bar) are gone and I do not want to operate by clicking on the advanced search button. Those things should be visible under the search bar again.
Also my STARTPAGE was GONE/DELETED after the update !!! Grrrrr.... Updating is OK but mozilla should not change user configured items !!!!!!!
The above described problem has nothing to do with the google website.

Why does firefox hang or not respond when I am using disable third party cookies setting

I have, by process of elimination, realized that when using the setting "allow third party cookies - 'never' ", causing my firefox to hang so much that I cannot use it. I have used that setting "allow third party cookies - 'never' ", for as long as it has been available. Over that last few months, I have been having problems with firefox hanging and getting the message "firefox not responding". It became very annoying, causing me to look for a solution. I read through the kb and tried many solutions. I can now say that when I change the cookie settting to "always" the problem goes away. It is helped only slightly by using the "from visited" setting. How can I fix this? I don't want all the cookies but I cannot surf with this problem constantly.

The problem is that "third party" includes both related servers and advertising networks; the setting is too crude to accomplish the objective of blocking tracking cookies that you don't want.
My compromise is to accept all third party cookies, but set cookie lifetime to "Keep until: I close Firefox." As a result, tracking is limited in time, even if during any given session I can be seen on different sites. (I also use the NoScript extension, so many ads driven by scripts never load.)

Why does firefox insist that i turn on caret browsing?

i keep getting a pop-up advising that pressing f7 turns on caret browsing to choose text in web-page using keyboard. this has no relevance to playing farmville or reading emails, the activities i am engaged in when the pop-up appears. deleting the pop-up only succeeds in multiple copies of it appearing so that i can not delete it, then the web-page freezes so that i can not shut-down firefox.

Why does Firefox open another Start Page tab everytime I hit the home key (which take me to my homepage on the current tab)?

When I hit the home key Firefox takes me back to my homepage (AOL) but also opens up a new Mozilla Firefox Start Page tab. I end up with a whole bunch of unwanted tabs.

Why does logic pro x and 9 quit everytime I use it!?

It isn't likely that I can actually use either one of my logic programs to make music. It started happening to me with logic pro 9 so I researched multiple ways to fix it. After learning that maybe it could be my computer that actually had the problem. I spend $300 getting my computer updated to 8gb of ram and I even updated the operating system. After getting OSX 10.9.1 I got Logic pro X a very peculiar program that I haven't fully been able to explore becuase of the constant crash interruption. I would prefer to use my logic pro 9 for my plug-in library but as soon as I open a session or something it does the same thing. Please someone help me out, I'm about to pull my hair out from dealing with these issues with logic. I just wish that I could work on tracks.

Why does Firefox take so long to load beta images on some sites?

I upgraded to one of the latest versions of Firefox, and it's better in some ways. It loads much faster than previous versions, but when I try to look at certain websites - the Globe and Mail is one of them - I get messages like "waiting for beta images" and Firefox just sits there and I can't look at the site. Why does Firefox take so long to upload beta images? I don't have that problem with Internet Explorer.

Why does Firefox keep updating when it knows it will not be compatible with extensions and plugins?

firefox now will not let me run videos or my birthday e-cards. i tried all of their solutions as much as i could but am not even vaguely a techie at 61.
why do the insist on updates that render stuff i use daily useless? why do I have delete or downgrade stuff to get things to work? this is total nonsense.

This is getting complicated. Flash Player problems are not necessarily the only subject of this thread and it is a solved thread so it would be best to open a new question.
The situation changes as new versions of Firefox and FlashPlayer are released, and both have updated within the last few days.
Regarding FlashPlayer problms with Flash 11.3 there appear to be three problems
* Real Player - that is best dealt with as a separate problem - so a first question has to be are you using Real Player and if so does that include video recording/downloading features ?
* Protected mode Many problems on Windows Firefox relate to the use of protected mode by the Flash Payer 11.3 . Also note this is an issue only affecting recent Windows OS s .
*Protected mode setting it is possible to set this or unset it manually, it is also possible for installers to set or unset this so not only the version, but where you obtain it and what the installer is can make a difference.
The security level of these versions also needs considering, remember protected mode is itself a security enhancement.

Suddenly all my tabs closed. Then Windows told me I had a gazillion infections. The main problem with malware is that it uses the installation to proliferate by contacting hostile servers to download more of the same rogue code.
Firefox doesn't have the option to "Run" a file. You can only "Save File" or "Cancel". If you downloaded it with IE8, then yes, you can run it, but that's not what I wanted you to do.
What you should do now is to disable System Restore. You can open System Properties by hitting the Windows logo key and Pause/Break key together. Then click the "System Restore" tab. Then checkmark the box which says "''Turn off System Restore on all drives''". Reboot to clear its contents. System Restore unfortunately makes a backup of all executables which includes viruses so that when you reboot without deleting them first, System Restore reinstates them again.
After you complete that step, run Avast and Malwarebytes again to make sure the system is clean.
Then go to the Windows Update site (link on your start menu) and install the missing patches which enabled your machine to become infected in the first place.
Once the system is clean, repeat step one to download Firefox again, but please do not run the file. If you don't see the option to "Save File", cancel the download, but it should be there. Run the file after you download it to the desktop.

Why does firefox show up as a plugin on volume mixer? After updating a flash plugin into firefox (when it had requested me to update it), it no longer shows up as firefox in volume mixer. It now shows up as some plugin icon. I really don't understand this, and wish it to be the firefox icon again. What is going on and what happened? It names itself "Plugin Container For Firefox" What does that mean? It has been this way ever since, and nothing I have done has fixed this. Restarting, refreshing, reinstalling, clearing cache, etc. Can anyone think of something please? :(

Open the system menu via Alt+Space and see if you can resize that window. 
If that works then close Firefox (File > Exit/Quit) to save that setting.

I am also having this problem. When trying to reboot, I get an endless cycle of the BIOS screen, then "MACHINE ERROR", then back. Running the same dmesg command as snoxu results in a similar error message. I am forced to shutdown by holding the power button. Upon rebooting, I get an error message that all extensions have been turned off (using Gnome Shell). Then I have to logout and login.
Shutting down and then restarting works fine.
