Why does Firefox keep freezing/locking up system (Windows 8)?

I just recently decided to switch to Firefox from chrome because I was sick of chrome's adblocker never working. Unfortunately, whenever I use Firefox, it will randomly freeze my entire system so I have to do a forced shutdown by holding the power button. When it freezes I can't even move my mouse let alone open task manager to end Firefox. Any help is greatly appreciated because I really like Firefox but it is annoying having to keep restarting my computer every 20 minutes or so. I notice that usually freezes when watching videos on YouTube, although not always. I am using Firefox 30.0 with Windows 8
System specs:
Dell Inspiron 15r Special Edition
Intel Core i7 processor
Windows 8 x64
8GB RAM
750GB Hard drive
2GB AMD 7730M

Something similar happened to me at one point, and I found out that one of my RAM chips had gone bad. The way I found out was from scanning with Memtest86. Its an ISO file that you print onto a CD, then the computer will boot from it. After replacing the chip it has been running smoothly ever since.

  • Why does Firefox keep freezing/locking up?

    This has been going on for at least a year. Every time I update Firefox I hope the issue will be resolved, but if anything it's worse.
    I have tried uninstalling/reinstalling. I reset. I turned off Hardware acceleration. I updated all of my plugins and Firefox. I tried Safe Mode. I turned off protected mode in Flash.
    It has something to do with flash, I'm sure. I used flash blocker and it seemed to help, but not totally. I'll open a tab and it will freeze. Says (Not Responding). Little green processing circle will freeze as well. This happens with flash intensive sites, which these days is most sites. I tried using IE and the sites worked. It's gotten to the point that I actually have to stop using Firefox. What's the deal? Why is it STILL like this? The only resolution is to open task manager and close Firefox.

    Here is mine, games freezing

  • I can't open my e-mail messages (Hotmail.ca) - again. Why does Firefox keep freezing up my Hotmail account?

    Yesterday morning, I opened and read my Hotmail e-mail messages. Last night, Firefox would not let me open any mail. This has happened before, but I don't remember how the problem was solved. Again this morning I tried to read my mail, but had to go to Windows Live to be able to do so. I want to use Firefox as my home page, as that is the best for when I want to access FaceBook, but it isn't any good if I can't open e-mail.

    They are the same use your email address as your userid so it will know for instance whether it is MSN or HOTMAIL. I think that change was made a few years ago, yes when I went to Verizon DSL and then Verizon FiOs (Fiber).

  • Why does Firefox keep hanging, crashing, sulking, dying when internet connection behaves?

    Why does Firefox keep hanging, crashing, sulking, dying when internet connection behaves? Once it renders the page it should forget about the page. Why does it behave when some link is clicked when there is no internet? It should just say internet not available or some crap. Why die, sulk, crash?? I don't get it! 3 series was much much much better!

    I should add, I've re-downloaded Firefox, but that doesn't look like it has helped any. Still get seemingly inexplicable crashes.

  • Why does firefox keep blocking websites that I have gone to in the past

    Why does firefox keep blocking websites I have gone to in the past?

    From http://watchseries.lt/tips#htw
    <pre><blockquote>Why videos do not work for me?
    You need Flash Player or DivX Player. Both of these programs are used everywhere online; their size is small and will not harm your computer. You should download them from here:
    DivX: http://www.divx.com/en/software/download/start
    Flash: http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/</blockquote></pre>

  • Why does Firefox keep opening 3 random tabs while browsing different websites?

    Just to clarify: They are never spam websites. They may be 3 of the same website, but it is always random. I only browse safe websites. This usually happens while Stumbling (StumbleUpon).
    For example:
    StumbleUpon brought me to this website:
    [[http://www.thecreatorsproject.com/blog/5000-fiber-optic-flowers-invade-museum-grounds-in-ifield-of-lighti]]
    Then it also opened three of this webpage:
    [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/First_Earth_Battalion]]
    They have nothing to do with each other. Why does this keep happening? I searched with Anti-Malwarebytes, SuperAntiSpyware and Microsoft Security Essentials. No viruses.
    I have Windows Vista Home Basics 32-bit. And is running Firefox 8.0. (This problem existed in 7.0 and previous as well.

    I've already done this, and it says nothing is wrong with my system.

  • WHY DOES PHOTOSHOP KEEP FREEZING?

    i have photoshop cs5.1 and everytime i try to close a project it freezes and i have to force quit. i have  a 2010 macpro, but most importantly when i open a new project it doesnt allow me to type anything, i hit the text tool and a small dot comes on the screen and i cant write anything, help me please. oh and why does it keep saying rendering type everytime i hit a button in the tool side?

    Have you tried resetting preferences?
    Have you tried disabling all third party plugins?
    Can you use Sampler or the Activity Monitor to get sample of what Photoshop is doing when it appears frozen?
    (my guess is that you have a corrupt font, and it's hitting a bug in the OS font engine, which causes other problems)

  • I have firefox 6.02. Why does it keep freezing on me lately for the last week or so?

    Every few seconds, the firefox just freezes & I need to wait a few minutes & I can't do anything else with firefox until it cleares! WHY?

    It is possible that there is a problem with the files sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.
    Delete the files sessionstore.js [2] and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.
    * Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Open Containing Folder
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox
    If you see files sessionstore-##.js with a number in the left part of the name like sessionstore-1.js then delete those as well.
    Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and open and closed (undo) tabs to get lost, so you will have to create them again (make a note or bookmark them).

  • Why does Firefox keep crashing when I use it on my Dell Precision computer w/XP operating system?

    Well, this is embarrassing.
    Firefox is having trouble recovering your windows and tabs. This is usually caused by a recently opened web page.
    You can try:
    Removing one or more tabs that you think may be causing the problem
    Starting an entirely new browsing session

    If Firefox crashes frequently but stops crashing when you are in Safe Mode that is a pretty sure sign that there is something wrong with your individual setup of Firefox on your Windows 7 machine.
    (The 99 others claiming to have the same problem this week probably have their own distinct and separate problems - if you are one of those 99 it may make sense to start your own questions about your problems, if you do not see suitable answers).
    Many malware problems would continue even in Firefox's [[safe mode]], so the good news is that malware may not be your problem.
    Note that safe mode does not disable plugins, you may wish to consider testing with your plugins disabled, just in case they are interacting with something. To temporarily disable plugins use
    * '''Firefox button -> Add-ons -> |Plugins|'''
    You do not list the Firefox extensions that are in use, maybe one of them is a problem. I suggest you try Firefox with half of them disabled, if that solves the problem, the troublesome add-on may be in the other half, disable them all and then try with half of the other half enabled. (If you have more than a handful of add-ons it is faster testing like that than enabling or disabling one at a time)
    One very important question is how do you know Firefox is crashing ? <br/>will you please explain exactly what happens, and what if any error messages you are seeing. (If firefox freezes/hangs that may be different from Firefox or the OS crashing, and require different solutions).
    On a general note the following articles may help with troubleshooting:

  • Why does firefox keep crashing? I ran a scan and there was no spyware or malware. I uninstalled and reinstalled firefox. It doesn't happen in safe mode.

    For some unknown reason firefox keeps crashing on my laptop computer. I mostly just use the internet for surfing and for emailing. It is very frustrating when I am trying to write an email and firefox crashes. I have unistalled and reinstalled firefox. I ran a McAfee scan on the computer and it has no problems with spyware or malware. It doesn't crash in safemode either. I am in safe mode now otherwise it would have crashed multiple times while getting to this page and typing this message.

  • Why does itunes keep freezing?

    While importing CD's to itunes with windows 8, it keeps freezing up and I have to end itunes through the task manager and restart.  Any suggestions?

    There is an Apple article on troubleshooting freezes here:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302856
    However it could be a bit of a pain to do if your problem is intermittent.
    If the problem is system wide (see article) trying MSConfig to look for conflicting processes might help. I used to get a lot of several second hangs with norton 2005 which went away when I installed norton 2007 for example.

  • Why does Firefox keep grabbing more memory and never releasing it until you have to restart it?

    Firefox starts out taking up a relatively small amount of memory, but with use it takes more memory (1,000K) which is never released even when tabs are closed. I run Firefox on a Pentium HT system, 4GB RAM, Win XP Prof and on a Core i3 system, 4GB RAM, Win 7 Home Premium (64 bit) and see the same behavior on both systems. Is anyone working on a fix for this? I did not include the troubleshooting info because it made the question too long to post.

    The problem is not in restarting, the problem is that Firefox (8.0.1 in my case) starts out grabbing about 300,000 K according to the task manager and keeps on gobbling up memory until it gets up over 1,000,000 K at which point it usually crashes. The point at which it crashes is usually between 1,000,000 K and 1,500,000 K. It also grabs an enormous number of processor cycles from time to time; enough processor cycles and memory that Norton 360 posts an alert.

  • Why does firefox keep changing things up with new versions?

    It really bothers me that Firefox keeps changing things, namely the user interface with new versions. They move buttons around like the back / forward, and refresh button. If I don't have the latest version I get prompted to download it each time I open my web browser. Now with this latest update I got a good inch and a half at the top of my screen that should be gray but is transparent and shows my desktop background. Also, I like to right click and 'open link in new' tab a lot, I thought it used to be 'open link in new window' first than 'open link in new tab' second. They switched them around now I'm opening new windows instead of tabs from clicking the second option by habit. Its not that big of a deal but why keep changing it up when I'm comfortable with what I know.

    You can use Themes or Personas to change the display of Firefox browser.
    * https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/themes/
    * https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/personas/
    You can Middle-click a link using Mouse or use '''CTRL + Left-click''' shortkeys to open a link in a New Tab. See these articles:
    * [[Mouse shortcuts]]
    * [[Keyboard shortcuts]]
    Check and tell if its working.
    Not related to your problem but some of your Firefox Plugins are out-dated, so you need to Update them.
    -> Update All your Firefox Plugins by visiting the following link:

  • Why does Firefox keep crashing with Mavericks?

    I don't want any answers on this, but I would strongly suggest that people should not download Mavericks. I did so today, March 22, and since then Firefox keeps crashing or going into the spinning wheel mode. Once it actually shut down my domputer. Clearly Apple updates are becoming as worthless as windows updates.

    I haven't had any issues with Firefox and Mavericks. The only issues I've had have been minor.
    I suggest you test in a new User. This will quickly tell you if the problem is system wide or if it's your User's folder that contains the problem.
    CREATE A NEW USER
    Go to System Preferences --> Create a New User in Accounts. Switch to the New User by logging out/in or use Fast User Switching
    Do you still see the issue?
        If yes, then the problem is with your base files.
        If no, then the problem is in your User's folder.
    Download EtreCheck. It will display the important details of your system configuration and highlight old files you still might have around that will affect Mavericks. If you need help with the results, you can copy the results to the Clipboard. and paste on the fourm.

  • Why does Yosemite keep freezing?

    I have a MacBook Pro, 2012 I believe. For the most part, it's been one of the best computers I've owned so far, running smoothly with few glitches or errors. Then I updated to Yosemite.
    Now, I'm lucky if a job that took a few seconds on the previous system takes less than five minutes on the new one. The system lags and hangs pretty much every other action. It has to 'think' about everything, but especially typing. While writing this, the system paused for over fifteen seconds, unable to do anything, before continuing with typing out my sentence. Here's a little bit of what keeps going wrong:
    1.) While typing in Microsoft Word, the system will continually and consistently freeze, often in the middle of a word I was tying, sometimes for upwards of a minute. May or may not complete the word or phrase I was typing when freeze occurred (literally just happened while typing this sentence; so Firefox is buggy too) Saving and opening files also takes an inordinate amount of time.
    2.) Using iTunes or 3rd Party software for music and/or videos is pretty much impossible. Audio will repeatedly pause and glitch for upwards of thirty seconds before resuming, or just cut out entirely. Video doesn't fare much better, however video will sometimes freeze while audio continues on for a few seconds before freezing as well. Other times video and audio will pause at once and then resume. Problem is also present (but less pronounced) for YouTube videos.
    3.) Accessing files takes upwards of a minute (depending on size and location) and will necessitate no other activity on other programs in the meantime (system will lock up temporarily and then resume as file opens).
    4.) System will often stop and lock up even when I'm not doing anything; evidenced by the spinning 'busy' icon appearing and the system not responding when prompted.
    5.) System seems to have a problem with scrolling through menus or websites as well.
    6.) Possibly the cause of -or related to- these problems: Filevault will not stop its encryption process. I left the system running on cord power (modifying the appropriate energy-saving settings so the computer wouldn't go to sleep automatically) for upwards of 24 hours with no programs running, and the progress bar hasn't moved. (Occasionally it'll jump to full and then return to half-full)
    I love my computer, but this new OS has made me pull my hair out and want to bash my head into the wall, repeatedly. I have no idea how to fix this, or how I would implement a solution, if any. My only thought is that I should re-download and install the previous OS, but it'd be a tremendous hassle and I'm worried about compatibility issues with some of the newer files. Could someone please explain why this keeps happening and walk me through a solution? Bear in mind that I am the DEFINITION of 'Stupid end-user'. I know nothing about how computers or coding works, and I'm just trying to get mine fixed.
