Why does Firefox need to see what websites i have been to and turn on the camera without my knowing? It seems the permissions are getting too intrusive.

I have always liked Firefox the best of all browsers, but will not be installing it on any mobile devices if it really can do whatever it wants to do like it seems from the permissions screen.

hello, these permissions are used to allow the import of the history from other browsers & for the [https://hacks.mozilla.org/2012/04/taking-pictures-with-the-camera-api-part-of-webapi/ camera api] - please also refer to the following article which explains all the permissions: [[How does Firefox for Android use the permissions it requests?]]

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
    See:
    * [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]]
Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.<br />
    See [[Basic Troubleshooting#Make_a_new_profile|Basic Troubleshooting&#58; Make a new profile]]<br />
There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins"<br />
If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile (be careful not to copy corrupted files)

  • Why does Firefox need a refresh when high contrast theme is selected?

Shouldn't it change content immediately when it detects a theme change? IE 11 does this and it would be a really nice-to-have feature, especially when it comes to accessbility constraints...

cor-el thanks for the reply, NoSquint seems quite useful but unfortunately it does not cover my use case. I have a use case where an external application is able to dynamically set the selected theme at the OS level, that is, set it to High Contrast Black or switch it back to the default Windows 7 Aero theme, so you should assume that i do not have any control over what is happening at the OS level regarding the selected theme, hence cannot "disable a high contrast theme in the Operating System".
I see that some basic UI elements such as the select box arrow handle and radio buttons change immediately, but the overall outlook of the page (e.g. background colors, text colors) do not. Could this be solved with me implementing a Firefox extension which would interface with the system "theme-changed" event and perform a re-rendering of the page at that point? I am currently trying to find some info on this...

  • Why does Firefox log me out of websites every few minutes?

I'm having a problem where I'm getting logged out of websites automatically every few minutes. It doesn't matter what the website is (Facebook, email, forums etc.) once I've logged in, after a few minutes of browsing I'll be logged out again. I've tried re-installing Firefox and have cleared my cookies/cache multiple times but it's still happening. I've been using Firefox for years and this is the first time anything like this has happened so I guess that it might be related to the latest update. Does anyone have any ideas?

    What are the connection settings?
    *Tools > Options > Advanced > Network : Connection > Settings
    *https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Options+window+-+Advanced+panel
If you do not need to use a proxy to connect to internet then try to select "No Proxy" if "Use the system proxy settings" or one of the others do not work properly.
    See "Firefox connection settings":

Check the date and time and time zone in the clock on your computer: (double) click the clock icon on the Windows Taskbar.

Boot the computer in Windows Safe mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test to see if that helps.

  • Cineform - what is it ? why does one need it ? what am I missing ?

    Hello,
I am very puzzled with what Cineform is. I have been to their website, but they don't do a very good job at describing what Cineform is, or what it does, and why somebody would need it.
Could somebody who has a few moments, explain what Cineform is, and what it does, and how it make Premiere better ?
I just don't understand it at all, and I'm afraid I may be missing out on something important.
    Thank you,
    Dave.

Temporal compression is a way of making files smaller. Rather than storing all the data for every frame, you store only the data for the first frame, and then you store only the changes from frame 1 to frame 2, and then the changes between frame 2 and frame 3, etc. For any given second of video, 30 frames worth, only two are stored in full. All the rest only store the changes.
For news type programs, also called talking head shots, very little changes between frames, so this is a very good way to save space.
During a high action scene, a lot will change between frames, and it becomes more difficult to store the data using this method. This is why artifacts are created, errors during the encoding that do not allow a correct display of the video. This is also why a lot of professionals often prefer formats that do not create such artifacts in the source footage. Temporal compression is a good way of shrinking video for final display, but often causes issues when you use it to shoot the original scene.
It takes much processing power to restore those change related frames for display. Cineform takes the load off the processor by doing the work ahead of time. It converts the files before you import them, thus restoring the "change frames" to "full frames", making it very easy for Premiere to display them, and edit them.

  • Why does Firefox need to control my mic and my camera?

To install Firefox on my phone I must first accept these permissions.
    Hardware Control:
Record audio:- Allow application to access the audio record path.
Take pictures and video. Allow application to take pictures and video with the camera. This allows the application AT ANY TIME TO COLLECT IMAGES THE CAMERA IS SEEING.
I have stopped using Facebook Apps and many Google products because they what this sort of contol and basically I don't trust them.
Why do so many apps need such spying power? and where can I download an old version of Firefox.android that pre dates this control freaky version? After all it used to work just fine without.
    Thanks
    Jonpon

making permissions optional and controllable for the users is something that would have to be implemented on the OS level. if you have a device with android 4.3 or above it might already work through this hack: www.androidpolice.com/2013/07/25/app-ops-android-4-3s-hidden-app-permission-manager-control-permissions-for-individual-apps/

  • Why does Firefox needs permission to make changes to my computer?

Yesterday, when I tried to start up Firefox, a window popped up and asked if I wanted to allow the program (Firefox) to make changes to my computer. It has never asked me that before and ever since yesterday, whenever I click to run it, the same window pops up. It doesn't specify what changes Firefox is making and I just keep clicking "allow." I have Windows 7 and yesterday, I also downloaded Sleep is Death by Jason Rohrer- a simple, small game, but I don't believe it asked me to change anything in Firefox. Can anyone tell me either what the changes are or how to stop Firefox from requesting to make them?
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
    == Yesterday

Check that you do not run Firefox as Administrator.
Right-click the Firefox desktop shortcut and choose "Properties".
In the Compatibility tab, make sure that Privilege Level: "Run this program as Administrator" is not selected.
You also need to check the Properties of the firefox.exe program in the Firefox program directory.
If you can't make the changes then you need to start Windows Explorer as Administrator.

  • Why does Firefox keep me logged into websites after closing and reopening the browser?

As of today, Firefox has been behaving differently. Namely, when I close Firefox and reopen, I am still logged in to email and other sites. I have all of my privacy settings checked, such as clear history, offline data, form history, etc etc so that they all will be deleted upon closing but this has no effect. Can someone provide insight as to why this is happening and how I can correct it? Before today, after closing and reopening the browser I was required to log in to any sites requiring UN and PW.
I have rechecked all history deletion options to make sure all the appropriate ones were selected. Yesterday, I noticed inbox.com and a program called 24x7 Help were installed on the computer, without my knowledge. I promptly uninstalled them, but I'm not sure if they could somehow be responsible for the odd behavior.

Such a behavior indicates that you keep the cookie(s) that verify that you are logged on to a web server.
Are you using session restore to open those tabs automatically?
    * Tools > Options > General > Startup: "When Firefox Starts": "Show my windows and tabs from last time"
You can set the <b>browser.sessionstore.privacy_level</b> pref to 2 (never) or 1 (non-HTTPS, default in Firefox 3 versions) on the <b>about:config</b> page to disable saving cookies via session restore.
You can change the browser.sessionstore.privacy_level_deferred pref that is used when you do not reopen the previous session automatically via "Show my windows and tabs from last time".

  • Why does firefox repeatedly send message stating reset link has been sent to email when it never is sent

I'm trying to log in to my account. Firefox says my password is invalid. Firefox also says it has sent a reset link to my email. That reset link never arrives although I repeatedly ask to sent the link, and Firefox repeatedly indicates that link has been successfully sent.

This issue can be caused by corrupted cookies or cookies that are blocked.
*check the permissions on the about:permissions page and in "Tools > Page Info > Permissions"
Clear the cache and remove cookies only from websites that cause problems.
    "Clear the Cache":
*Firefox/Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"
"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:
*Firefox/Tools > Options > Privacy > "Use custom settings for history" > Cookies: "Show Cookies"
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Why does my Iphone 4s forget what mailbox I have selected for deleted mail?

I'm having an issue with my mailbox. I have a work email address, set up under "other" since it's domain based. When I initially set it up I have all the settings right and it works for a while. Then, it will randomly drop the settings. Most of the time it just forgets where to send my deleted mail when I delete it, so it alerts me that it can't delete mail. Also, it has a habit of forgetting incoming/outgoing information. I recently traveled to Europe and when I got there my phone stopped receiving mail. Even when i got back it was still the same. I had to delete the mailbox and start again.
My main issue is the deleted mailbox error. What could be causing the mail settings to forget that I have selected "On My IPhone"??
Also, a side question, is there a way to sort mail in the sent box by recipient and not by sender? Thanks!

Do you have a case on it that might be pressing your power on button or might press your power on button inadvertently when you touch it.

  • Why does firefox need to be closed to delete cookies & temp files

Only firefox seems to be this way -- under Windows, when I run a cleaner to delete temp files and cookies, firefox temp files and cookies can't be deleted unless firefox is closed. Can't this be fixed?

Other browsers don't seem to have his problem. i enjoy be being able to click on one item and having things cleared without fuss or bother. I'd prefer not to auto delete with each close nor do I want to have to manually hunt down with Ctrl+Shift+Del. I'm aware of those options. I was wondering why firefox still worked that way. Definitely a disadvantage for me using it. reminds me of the story:
A guy goes into a store to buy a suit and the clerk gives him one to try on:
Guy, "Hey one sleeve is longer than the other."
Clerk says, "Just shift your shoulders like this and it will look fine, see."
Guy, "But the pantlegs are uneven."
Clerk, "Well, just shift your weight onto one hip and, yes, see it looks fine."
Guy, "But the collar rides low on one side."
Clerk, "Here, hold that side in place with your chin against your chest like you're holding a violin. Voila!"
These accommodations go on for bit and the guy, somewhat exasperated but worn down, buys the suit. He wears it out of the store and down the street with his chin clamped to his chest, and one leg sort of dragging and his shoulder cocked, etc.
Two doctors walk past him and one says, "Oh that poor fellow," and the other says, "Yes, but he sure had a nice looking suit."

  • Why does Firefox sometimes still tell me that I have cache to clear in the Advanced tab of the Options menu after I completely clear it using Clear Recent History?

I always have the time range in the Clear Recent History window set to "Everything", too.

While I didn't know about the about:cache page, it doesn't help me understand why Firefox is doing this, and how to fix it. Also, as I said in my question, I already knew about the cache information in the Advanced tab of the Options menu. I was trying to imply that I sometimes have to clear it using both the Clear Recent History feature and in the Advanced tab of the Options menu, because using Clear Recent History doesn't delete it all.

  • Why does firefox 4 move at least twice as slow as chrome and IE9

Seriously. Stopped using firefox last fall because of speed issues.(previously my favorite browser). Now I've placed all 3 browsers on the screen and loaded several different bookmarks. Chome hit the site in seconds, fully loaded. IE9 just behind(milliseconds) But FIREFOX(oh my dear firefox.....) at least 2-5 TIMES as long.

  • Why does Firefox tell me that I don't have the latest version of Flash but Adobe tells me that I do?

Firefox keeps telling me that I have to upload a newer version of Adobe Flash. However, Adobe tells me that I have the latest version. Also, Google Chrome lets me see pages that Firefox will not load because it thinks I don't have the right version of Flash! Any ideas on how to resolve this? Thanks in advance.

Which version of the Flash player do you have?
