Why does Firefox put my downloads in the tempfolder, against my order to put them in the downloadfolder?

I set my downloadlocation under Extra--> General to D:\Downloads. But they keep coming in in the Tempfolder. How can this be?

Firefox immediately starts downloading the file in the background and saves the file to the temp folder and doesn't wait until you specify the name and the location (destination folder).
If the file stays in the temp folder then it is possible that your security software is blocking the file and prevents Firefox from moving the file to the specified destination folder.

Why does Firefox automatically install it's latest update, even after I've spent months clicking the 'no' button whenever I've been asked to update?

For months Firefox has been providing me with a little dialogue box asking whether I want to update to the latest version. This has been annoying, but each time I have politely clicked the button saying that 'no, I do not wish to update at this time', allowing me to get on with my day using my preferred version of Firefox. However, just moments ago when I most recently opened my Firefox browser, a simple look at the tabs told me that Firefox had updated itself without my permission (something which has happened in the past and really ticks me off). Whenever this problem has presented itself to me in the past, however, I have simply been able to go onto the Firefox website and download my old version. When I tried doing that this time around however, I somehow keep getting stuck with the latest version, which is extremely rankling and the sole reason for my complaint. If Firefox would just stop inviting it's new versions onto my computer whenever it felt like it, I wouldn't be seriously inconvenienced whenever I felt like browsing the internet. It also seems to be harder to find the old versions of Firefox than it used to be, as I am having a devil of a time trying to find my old version (though that may just be me). Frankly, if Firefox would just stop automatically updating itself, it would save me a lot of unnecessary stress and hassle.

Why does Firefox 5 open links in a new tab or new window rather than within the same tab? Previous versions opened links in the same tab allowing use of the "back" button on the mouse. Having to close so many tabs and windows is really irritating.

I ask about the page because Firefox 23 seems to have introduced a problem with Firefox's "fast back-forward cache" on the Google search results page. It is related to the "instant prediction results" feature interacting with Firefox is some different way. Why does IOS 7 cause all my apps to restart when I return to them from the background?

Every time I switch applications, the one that was in the background goes through its hoops as if I was just starting it up. I can't even look at a book without the APP restarting. This started when I upgraded to IOS 7.

Sounds like an update kink. Restart your phone. If that doesn't work then reset all settings.
Settings>general>reset>reset all settings.
When powering the phone on it will prompt you for your pass code it you have one. You will need to input your wifi network and password in again as well as your Apple ID information.

Why does Firefox keep hanging, crashing, sulking, dying when internet connection behaves? Once it renders the page it should forget about the page. Why does it behave when some link is clicked when there is no internet? It should just say internet not available or some crap. Why die, sulk, crash?? I don't get it! 3 series was much much much better!

I should add, I've re-downloaded Firefox, but that doesn't look like it has helped any. Still get seemingly inexplicable crashes.

Suddenly all my tabs closed. Then Windows told me I had a gazillion infections. Then a tiny strip appeared saying it was Firefox and these little blocks started to fill up the little strip as if it were downloading something--there was no way to cancel this so I cut the power. The main problem with malware is that it uses the installation to proliferate by contacting hostile servers to download more of the same rogue code.
Firefox doesn't have the option to "Run" a file. You can only "Save File" or "Cancel". If you downloaded it with IE8, then yes, you can run it, but that's not what I wanted you to do.
What you should do now is to disable System Restore. You can open System Properties by hitting the Windows logo key and Pause/Break key together. Then click the "System Restore" tab. Then checkmark the box which says "''Turn off System Restore on all drives''". Reboot to clear its contents. System Restore unfortunately makes a backup of all executables which includes viruses so that when you reboot without deleting them first, System Restore reinstates them again.
After you complete that step, run Avast and Malwarebytes again to make sure the system is clean.
Then go to the Windows Update site (link on your start menu) and install the missing patches which enabled your machine to become infected in the first place.
Once the system is clean, repeat step one to download Firefox again, but please do not run the file. If you don't see the option to "Save File", cancel the download, but it should be there. OK, so here’s my question. I have been using Firefox for years; it’s a wonderful piece of software and an excellent browser. Recently I’ve been having problems with plugin-container.exe. The general advice has been to make sure that Flash Player is up to date (10.3.183.7) and that Firefox is up to date (6.0.1). I still have problems, particularly on YouTube and the new 4Od site, so much so that I used about:config to disable “dom.ipc.plugins.enabled”, I set the value to false. Plugin-container.exe was, prior to this, hogging all the CPU it could get its grubby little mits on, this no longer happens but whilst watching 4Od Firefox eats my entire CPU and the rendered video stream is filled with stutter, almost like frame dropping. It’s fun to watch Firefox struggle, but its no fun trying to watch a program. In desperation I downloaded and installed Chrome. Watching 4Od my CPU usage dropped from 98-100% down to 82%. I don’t particularly want to use Chrome but I do increasingly use my browser to watch streaming video content. Incidentally, if I use Firefox to watch the BBC Iplayer I only burn 35% CPU using Firefox. Oh, and I’m XPSP3, up to date.
How do I solve this stuttering problem?
Is this a codec issue with-in Flash Player?
Does 4Od use some sort of unsupported codec?
I can’t be the only one out on this limb and I know the problem solvers like a good challenge. Any help or suggestions will be much appreciated.

It happens immediately after opening Firefox on a two screen system. You get a message saying the Graphics Driver stopped responding, but that it managed to recover, but after a while the system freezes completely. You can't even CTRL+ALT+DEL.

I get this too on with my nVidia GTX460 card. In my case the screen goes black. It happens once every few days, and for a while I could not figure out why. I was forcing a shutdown to get the screen back.
But I put the computer to sleep and woke it up, since that restarts the video, and this let me see what was wrong. The only error message is it reports that Firefox hung. There is nothing else in the Event logs.
I'm running Windows 7 with all the updates from Windows Update, and my video driver is 285.62, but his also happened with the 260.26 driver.
I imagine this is happening a lot, but people aren't able to isolate the cause.
I'm looking for a fix, not a bypass.

Open the system menu via Alt+Space and see if you can resize that window.<br />
If that works then close Firefox (File > Exit/Quit) to save that setting.

You can use the SearchReset extension to reset some preferences to the default values.
