Why does Firefox randomly disconnect my tabbed windows into their own window?

I use tabbed browsing in my Firefox, since up grading to Firefox 18 it will occasionally, at random, disconnect a tab from the group. There doesn't seem to be a pattern and I am not telling it to separate the tab from the group.

Hi DHarbour60, <br>
The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information. Note: This will cause you to lose any Extensions, Open websites, and some Preferences.
<br>
To Reset Firefox do the following:
<br>
* Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
* Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
* Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
* Bulleted list itemFirefox will open with all factory defaults applied.

Just delete that file in the temp folder and cleanup that folder.

  • How do I get playlists to pop out into their own windows in 11?

I Think I could live with 11, if I could get playlists to pop up in their own windows. That How I create playlists, I have it side by side with my library.. there has got to be a way where you can still do that, right? I'm terrified of going back a step, because I don't want to reinstall 80,000+ MP3's and if I lose my hundreds of playlists, that's 8 years work down the drain!

You will need to connect from the headphone out jact to the input for the speaker on the monitor. The Video cable does not carry audio.

  • Why does firefox randomly close (no crash report appaears after)?

Firefox randomly just closes on me. It's not a crash, at least not a normal crash, because the Crash Report does not come up. It's just one moment it is open and the next it is now.
On top of that when it does do this, and at random other times as well, I am not able to re-open it for several minutes or I have to close the actual process through task manager in order for it to open again.

I'm sorry but I think you didn't get the problem right. Firefox just unexpectedly closes. It does not crash. There are no crash reports.

  • Why does Firefox repeatedly open new tabs when I open a .php file?

    Hey guys!
I do web development and design. I've just set up my PC (Ubuntu 14.04 LTS) and installed my choice of software.
On the .php files I set Firefox as the default software to open with but now it opens about 50 odd tabs in the space of 3 seconds. How do I fix this?
    Kind regards,
    -Trey

You've hit a bug that happens when you set Firefox as the external "helper" application used to open a type of file (the "Warning!" paragraph [http://kb.mozillazine.org/File_types_and_download_actions#Setting_an_automatic_action here] links to the related bug reports, if you're interested).
See [[Firefox repeatedly opens empty tabs or windows after you click on a link]] for how to fix this.

  • Why does firefox keeps forcing itself on top of all other windows? it doesn't matter what website im on, it always does it! Really gets on my nerves when im watching a video only to have it minimized and firefox slammed in my face lol...

It's not to do with what website I'm on - Firefox ALWAYS does this even if I just have a blank tab open! Seems to happen in ubuntu and windows 7. Does anyone know why this is??

    Hi,
You can consider the [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/reset-firefox-easily-fix-most-problems Reset Firefox] feature via '''Help''' ('''Alt''' + '''H''') > '''Troubleshooting Information'''. If it is okay, you can then install the Mozilla Archive Format add-on.
If you have security software installed you can try to delete all existing entries for Firefox and its sub processes in the different configuration modules and try to fully trust/allow Firefox afresh. Even after network access is completed, Firefox would still need unlimited access to its disk cache/memory as well as its files. Please see [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Firewalls this].

  • Why does Firefox's Maximize/Minimize tab in the bottom bar switch alternately from Green to Grey?

I am running Firefox 3.6.13 under Mint 9, LXDE Edition. I've noticed its Maximize/Minimize tab in the bar across the bottom of the screen blinks alternately between green and light gray. I've never witnessed this phenomenon while running Firefox under other Linux distros or Windows. Does anyone know what it means?
    Many thanks.

    Hi,
You can try to right-click the taskbar icon, '''Unpin''' it and later '''Pin''' it again. The [http://answers.microsoft.com/ Windows forum] would have different solutions to the problem.

  • Why does firefox only occasionally restore tabs?

I love firefox, but may have to return to chrome. Chrome restored my tabs everytime without fail, where as firefox does so occaisonally when shut down properly and never does if the computer restarts itself or some type of improper closing occurs. Why is this? Is there an addon to make firefox remember tabs?

The feature to restore your previous session is fragile. For example, if the Flash player updates as it did this week, a page will launch in Firefox. If you close Firefox without using Restore Previous Session, you just replaced your last session with the Adobe page. Oh NO!!!
There is an add-on to save more sessions and have better control over them. I haven't tried it myself.

  • Why does firefox lose all the tabs when logging on? annoying to remember the ones I had open

I open a few tabs with most used sites, facebook, ebay etc and when i log off i save and exit, some times it keeps them other times they go

Make sure that you do not use [[Clear Recent History]] to clear the browsing history.
Session restore works more reliable if you choose Tools > Options > General > Startup: "When Firefox Starts": "Show my windows and tabs from last time" instead of relying on the Save & Quit dialog.

  • Why does Firefox keep Opening My Hotmail link in a new window?

I have went to Tool-internet options-tabs-Open new windows in tab instead. And when Im at msn.com and click on the '''hotmail''' link it keeps opening it in a new WINDOW and not a tab. just really anoying was wondering if im missing something in options to set this strait :)
Edit: and i have tried Control Panel-Internet Options too.

Yes, this happens to me all the time too, but I can just be clicking on a link within a page when it happens; my mouse pointer isn't anywhere near the tabs...??

  • Why does Firefox upgrade 3.6.10 load into "F" which is old "C" drive?

Windows XP, SP3, IE 8 rarely used. When I added ROM (I think, it looks like a comb) to this computer 5 years ago, changed "C" drive to "F" drive. Is it normal for new upgrades of Firefox to load into that damaged drive? I never noticed before and when I ask it to load into "C", it insists in loading into "F". Could this be the reason my computer keeps locking up and is slower than molasses?

5 years ago the Firefox installer was different than what is being used now, so Firefox should have been installed to the C:\ drive at some point since then, unless you purposely installed it to a non-default location. Let's see where is is installed.
Right-click the shortcut icon you use to launch Firefox and select Properties.
Then copy the '''Target''' line using {Ctrl + C} on the keyboard, that line should already be highlighted so all you have to do is hit {Ctrl + C} - and Paste it into a Text program, like Notepad using {Ctrl + V}.
    Is that file path - '''"C:\Program Files\Mozilla\Firefox\firefox.exe"''' or is it '''"F:\''something or other''\Firefox\firefox.exe"''' - ??

  • Why does Apple have so many other languages into their devices but Swahili language from East Africa isn't added? Could somebody help me answer this question please? Thanks!

Hopefully someone inside Apple will see this and help us People that are using Apple devices but we do not have the option to change to our own language. Please Apple People look into this and consider it as a lot of people speaking Swahili are using apple products. Thank you in advance for your consideration.

  • Why does firefox intermittantly open a new window when I click on an existing tab? This only happens when I have three or more tabs open.

Several times now Firefox 4.0.1, when clicking on a tab (three or more tabs open) I immediately moves that tab to it's own window and closes the tab in the existing window.

That is probably the "tear-off tabs" feature. A slight movement (usually downward) when clicking on an existing tab will cause that tab to "tear-off" and open in a new window. You can drag the tab back to the previous window. You can also install this add-on to stop the behavior: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/bug489729-disable-detach-and-t/

  • Want new tab to open to home page and why does firefox not have a simple check box in the options because I can't keep going through a long procedure each time

I want new tab to open to home page and why does firefox not have a simple check box in the options because I can't keep going through the long tedious procedure each time I install firefox. It is something that should be in the options tab , and I want to know why it isn't. I am totally frustrated with firefox and getting ready to switch.

You can use the SearchReset extension to reset some preferences to the default values.

Note that the SearchReset extension only runs once and then uninstalls automatically, so it won't show on the "Firefox > Add-ons" page (about:addons).
