Why does Firefox 'remember' a login from my last session when, on both occasions, I was using "Private Browsing"?

Why does Firefox 'remember' a login from my last session when, on both occasions, I was using "Private Browsing"? How do I stop this (without clearing other data)?

Try disabling hardware acceleration. Many visual bugs can be attributed to issues with graphics drivers.
(Firefox -> Options -> Advanced -> General -> [ ] Use hardware acceleration when available)

  • Why does Firefox try to open PDF with Acrobat 8 when I have Properties set to use Reader 9.1?

If I click a link to a PDF from Firefox 3.6.10 it tries to open it with Acrobat 8 and fails, while if I double-click in a folder it correctly opens with Reader 9.1
If I try to open with Acrobat 8 from folder it won't work either, but why doesn't Firefox use the default program?

Go to Tools|Options|Applications. The first 4 entries relate to Adobe. Make sure that the association is for your 9.1 version. If it's not, click the association that is showing. You will get a downward pointing triangle at the right. Click on it and see if 9.1 is listed. If so, select it. Do the same for the other Adobe items.
You might also want to check "Folder Options" in the Windows Control Panel. In the "File Types" tab you will find all of the file extensions and the programs they are associated with. Scroll down to the PDF extension and insure it's associated with an "Adobe Acrobat Document. If not, click on the <change> button and find adobe in the program list.
Just to let you know, Adobe Reader is now up to version 9.4. You can go to Adobe's website to download the latest.

  • Why does Firefox remove the URL from the query string?

    Hello there,
I've writing a servlet to read data from a file stored on a server. I'm using an HTTP <INPUT TYPE=file > element to locate the file to be read. When I run the servlet using IE as the browser it works fine. When I try running it using Firefox, the path to the file is not included in the query string. The full URL to the file shows up in the file input text field but then mysteriously disappears from the query string. Without the path, the servlet can't locate the file and the servlet fails. How do I get Firefox to include the path in the query string or is there some other workaround for this problem. I want my servlet to work on all types of browsers.
    thanks,
    grant

Well you may also ask it the other way. Why does Microsoft send the full path file with the input type="file" component?
The purpose of this control is to upload a file from the client to the server. That file is sent with the request.
It does not allow you to browse server files at all. Most probably you are working on your developer machine where the client IS the server, so it works right now.
    It won't once they're seperate.
<input type="file"> is the wrong tool to use to browser the server. You need to write your own html pages to do that.
    Cheers,

  • Why does firefox forget my login?

Since updating to the latest versions of firefox it no longer remembers my login from previous sessions, even when i tick the "remember me" box on websites such as facebook and trademe.

Are you using "Clear history when Firefox closes"?
*Tools > Options > Privacy > Firefox will: "Use custom settings for history": [X] "Clear history when Firefox closes" > Settings

  • Why does firefox hang up and say it "got confused", when I try to switch from using facebook as myself to using facebook as a page I manage?

firefox hangs up and says it "got confused", when I try to switch from using facebook as myself to using facebook as a page I manage.

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
    * https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Safe+Mode
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
    * Use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
    * Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")
In Firefox 4 you can use one of these to start in <u>[[Safe mode]]</u>:
    * Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
    * Hold down the Shift key while double clicking the Firefox desktop shortcut (Windows)

  • Why does Firefox remember the pages I've visited, even though I am using different computers? I've never used the sync function. I don't want my computer at work to be synched with my personal computer at home

My computer at work remembers the pages I've visited even though I visited the pages while I was using my computer at my home. I don't know how or why this is happening, and I don't like that it is in sync with my computer at home - I have never used that function.
For example - When I type in "the methodist hospital" into the search bar using the computer at home, all the search results come up from Google, so I click on the links and take a look around on the websites/pages. The next day, I walk into work, and I type in "the methodist hospital" again in the search bar, and when the results come up - it indicates in gray lettering that "[I] visited this page [yesterday's date]."
Please explain why this is happening and what I must do in order for it to stop. It is scary knowing that my browsing history is remembered using 2 completely different computers. Needless to say, I don't want my boss thinking I'm just surfing the web all day at work.
    Thanks in advance!

if i have to read any comment by matt n again i will throw up...in my mouth. i have gone all over google trying to figure out what the f ff did to me without my permission, i have updates turned off so there should be no prompting to restart, there should be a polite offer not a forced update. i am angry and so are a ton of people.
everytime i go to a new complaint, another angry fellow ff user there is matt n with his infuriating smiling little picture...telling me about the awesome safety and security of the new ff...ignoring that a supposed safe but ugly and unusable browser is worse than a customized, beautiful, well functioning browser...with supposed safety issues. i am so angry i cannot express how this has wasted my time. i have been online for 2 hours now figuring out how to fix, apparently i cannot. my old theme is not compatible now...so i am screwed.
good bye. if i wanted chrome i would have had chrome. but i have no choice now.

  • Why does Firefox try to launch Adobe and/or Quicktime when I close Firefox? What is it loading into those programs?

When I shut down Firefox, it tries to start Either Adobe Reader, Quicktime, or both. It has done this ever since the first time I installed an used version 4. The applications do not actually launch, as in a window opening, but they are then present as a process in the system, and I have to close them from the Task Manager. It usually launches just one, but, if it's trying to launch one, and I use Task Manager to close it, it then launches the other. If I hurry and stop that one, Firefox reports that it messed up, and wants me to keep using the Internet for its own purposes that have nothing to do with what I was using the Internet for. This never happened under previous versions of Firefox. Do I need to revert to a previous version? I'm running Kaspersky Internet Security, and it shows I have no malware or the like on my computer, which could cause this. So, why is Firefox trying to do things I did not ask it to, and then expecting me to let it phone home to tell about it when I stop it. By the way, out of good practice, I often close down my Internet connection before closing Firefox, (in case I do get something like a Key Logger loaded, to prevent it from sending its final report before the cache is cleared), but this also happens when I have not yet closed my Internet connection before closing Firefox, so I do not think that is the issue, nor should it be. Your question below about when it happens does not provide for the answer "Every time Firefox Closes", so I picked the closest such answer.

This can be caused by clearing the cookies via [[Clear Recent History]].<br />
    * Firefox/Tools > Options > Privacy > Firefox will: "Use custom settings for history" > [X] Clear history when Firefox closes > Settings
You can try to exclude the cookies to test that.<br />
You can let all cookies expire when you close Firefox to remove unwanted cookies and keep the ones with an allow exception.
    * Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Keep until": "I close Firefox"
If you use [[Clear Recent History]] to clear the cookies when you close Firefox then Firefox also tries to clear the cookies from plugins like Flash and starts a plugin-container process for each plugin and possibly for each cookie (?) and that can add extra time if there are a lot of cookies to remove and also can cause an unresponsive script error to appear.

  • Why does Firefox remember Social Security numbers?

I do not think this is normal operation, so I am unsure if this is Firefox's fault or the website's fault. I was just doing something on Paypal.com and when it came time to fill in my social security number, it had "suggestions" pop up under the fields with my SSN that it remembered before. Things like SS# and credit card numbers should not be remembered like this because it's a major security issue for if someone else uses my computer.
I do not want to disable remembering fields entirely because that feature is useful to me. Names, addresses, phone numbers, emails, is all okay to be auto-filled in, but not something as extremely sensitive as SS#'s.
Again, sorry if this is Paypal's fault. I will be contacting them instead if it is.
Thank you for any information you can provide.

SSN's might get stored as part of '''form history''' and not recognized as such, depending upon how the Field Name of the on-page form is labeled. Clear your '''Form and Search History''' or don't save that data to begin with.
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/remove-recent-browsing-search-and-download-history
Or get in the habit of opening a New Private Window when confronted with the need to insert SSN's which might get saved in Form History.

  • Why does firefox want a login and password

I deleted firefox and tried Bing now I have deleted Bing and have redownloaded firefox but it will not open I wants a logon and password. How can I fix this

Do a clean reinstall and delete the Firefox program folder before reinstalling a fresh copy of Firefox.
Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
    *Firefox 20.0.x: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html
Uninstall your current Firefox version, if possible, to cleanup the Windows registry and settings in security software.
*Do NOT remove personal data when you uninstall your current Firefox version, because all profile folders will be removed and you will also lose your personal data like bookmarks and passwords from profiles of other Firefox versions.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
*It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored in the Firefox profile folder and won't be affected by an uninstall and (re)install, but make sure that "remove personal data" is NOT selected when you uninstall Firefox.
If you keep having problems then also create a new profile.

  • Why does Firefox remove the top portion of my Persona when I'm not showing the Menu Bar?

Under View > Toolbars you can show and hide the Toolbars you want, but when you choose to hide the Menu Bar, it cuts off about a centimeter of my Persona. A centimeter doesn't sound like much but on an image that is only about 10 centimeters tall in the first place, removing one from the top makes the picture unbalanced. Personas that don't have a boarder are even worse because it actually cuts off part of the detail of the image. Could that be fixed in a future patch?

It still chops off the top of the personas :( I think I'll uninstall v8 and go back to v3 Firefox, those were the glory days! haha

  • Why does Firefox always ask me to approve a resend when using back button?

Almost every time I press the back button Firefox presents a pop up to ask if I want to resend. How can I stop this from happening? I just want it to go back to the previous page. It is an irritating waste of time to have to click the resend button all the time.

It is ok that we get an alert before resending post data. But we don't want resend anything when we click on back button. We just want to see the page as was shown last time. When we want to resend data we may hit refresh on the page.

  • Why does firefox beta download ask for adminstrator password but when I put it in, its says wrong password or user name?

whenever I try to download firefox beta on my laptop it asks for an adminstrator password but when i put it in it says wrong user " name or password" so I try to by pass that by trying to download as user but then nothing happens the dialog box disappears and I have to start the download all over again. I'm trying to sync firefox with my android phone but I can't get the desktop/laptop version going.

Since installing Windows 7 there have been some weird goings on with my laptop.
I kept muddling around with this and ran a few diagnostics only to find that everything was fine. There was an incompatibility problem with Windows 7 and Firefox (safe mode) which I cared for by simply agreeing with everything Windows 7 wanted to do. It made an adjustment and apparently between the two programs they worked it out.
I tried downloading Firefox 4 beta one more time...using a fresh download in my Firefox browser and from the Firefox webpage. Oddly, this time the program downloaded saved itself to my laptop. I was able to open and install it without incident.
Now, I am all sync'd up!
Thank you very much for your assistance

  • Why does Firefox 4.0 keep asking me for some "32-bit plugin" item that requires restarting the browser, and then I keep getting the SAME MESSAGE (this only shows up when I am in my Yahoo e-mail!)?

This only happens when I am typing an outgoing e-mail on my Yahoo account!

    Please do the following.
Click '''Help '''| '''Check For Updates'''. The option to update should appear and version 3.6.17 should download and install.
However, sometimes things go pear-shaped and you get version 3.5.19. If that happens, repeat the same steps to update to 3.6.17.
Once you have 3.6.17 installed, you'll get the opportunity to update to the current version which is 4.0.1 ''Please don't do that for the moment because you first of all have to update your plugins''. To do the latter, please do the following.
Go to http://www.java.com/en/ and install the latest version of Java.
Update Adobe Shockwave for Director via http://get.adobe.com/shockwave/
    Update Adobe Flash via http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/
    Update Adobe Reader via http://get.adobe.com/reader/?promoid=BUIGO
For security details regarding the Adobe updates, see: http://www.adobe.com/support/security/advisories/apsa11-02.html
Once you've updated all those, go to '''Help '''| '''Check For Updates '''again to update to version 4.0.1

  • Why does the earphone jack on the HPdv7 NOT work when on the notebook stand and using replicator?

My Pavilion dv9815nr let me plug my earphones into the pc while it was on the desk extender or stand, and the sound of the speakers would be cut out -- which was especially a good idea late in the evening and helped keep peace in the family.  I liked this VISTA machine very much and was quite happy with it for not quite 3 years.  Unfortunately, the Optical drive gave out, or at least the BUS died and the techies recommended the purchase of a new machine since a repair was apparently expensive.  In order to stay closely to the concept of a full keyboard laptop using a notebook stand with wireless keyboard and mouse, I bought end March a Paviliion dv7 as a replacement machine.  Other than a series of minor mishaps, most of the problems were encountered with the peripherals and I am on a second wireless keyboard, mouse and replicator.  Also a number of odd occurrences related to audio were fixed by obtaining the proper drivers. but now I have encountered something that appears to be simply sloppy design.  When this laptop is in use on the notebook stand and linked to the replicator, the earphone jack on the left side of the PC is dead.  The jack works fine and cuts out the speakers when the USB lead for the replicator is removed.  There is a very impractical solution to the problem and that consists of plugging the earphone mini-plug into the jack located on the replicator.  Since the replicator has a niche location on the back of the notebook stand, this is not a very practical solution.  Any good ideas to get around this?

I went through the installation where the bar shows the percentages downloaded and installed. Once it shows 100% it asks me to click Finish. I do. Then I go to yahoo to check and it continues to show that the plugin is missing and that I need to download Adobe Flash which I thought that I just did. Am I missing something in terms of installing??
