Why does Firefox require a Plug In for Windows Media 11 and it doesn't exist for Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit

I wanted to listen to an Internet Radio Station and every time I clicked the listen now button on that site, Firefox tells me a Plug In is required for Window Media Player 11 so I follow the link to be told it is a manual download. When I get to the download site, I cannot find a Plug In download that is suitable to Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit so, I cannot listen to the radio station I want too and would like to know if there are any other options.

You can use the new WMP plugin for XP/Vista as well on Windows 7 with WMP 11.

• Why does firefox stop loading then when i close it and try to open it up again I keep getting this message:Firefox is already running, but is not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing Firefox process, or restart your system

Firefox will just stop loading/ connecting to the internet. The gray circle will just continually move but it never turns green to load the pages. I know it's not my internet because my internet explorer works just fine while this is happening to firefox. So I close firefox and then try to re open it but I get the message: Firefox is already running, but is not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing Firefox process, or restart your system. So I wait a little bit then try and re open it and still get the same message. I then go into my windows task manager and try and end the firefox proccess but it won't end. So I restart my computer and firefox eventually starts acting up again.

• Windows 10 and Skype - doesn't work for me

Had perfectly settled, working Skype on Windows 8.1 (Pro) config Upgrade to Win 10 (release). Skype client won't log in any more.> It's not account details - I can log in on the WEB on the same machine.> Completely un-installed Skype following help instructions. Re-install. Client fires up, accepts username/pwd, but won't log in - spinning circle.> other apps needing internet are working fine (Edge browser, Chrome). I can't find any tools to help me diagnose what's going on. Really important app for me - help welcome!

I tried the app data, rename old file. At first it looked like it worked, but then right back to spinning balls. But almost as important it WOULD NOT let me sign in with my Skype ID. It would only let me sign in and then create a new ID associated with my Microsoft (old hotmail) e-mail. Obviously that is not what I want. So hopefully it works for you, but deleteing the %appdata% user file clearly isn't fixing the root issue. I have checked my firewall and Skype is allowed. Same Bitdefender settings that used to work. Also, in re-starting it several times, Skype now wants two factor authentication everytime I sign in!!!! Obviously, that is a huge time waster. Spent hours searching the interwebs as we use Skype for business communications. What I have found is it is clearly the early August update to Windows 8 and 10 that broke it. There are no for sure fixes that I have found. Mostly check your firewall and then the rename your user data file as above, and few or no reported cases of sucess. Hope someone takes this seriously at Skype, we are down on a critical business use for Skype for a few weeks, starting to feel been sold a bill of goods.

• Why does Firefox require a reboot after uninstallation?

Basically, my problem was already asked here: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/916857
But that thread is marked as "solved", when in fact this problem is nowhere near being solved, so I am asking it again in a new, "unsolved" thread.
In former times Firefox never needed a reboot, and it does not make any sense because no Firefox-related file should be in use at the time of uninstallation. (Forget about updating in my case; I am doing a clean uninstall, and Firefox insists in rebooting anyway.)
Windows reboots due to software uninstallations are generally only required in the following cases:
* If files that belong to Windows are being modified. I hope Firefox does no such thing...
* Part of the software being uninstalled is still running, so that its files are in use. However, I completely closed Firefox and even used the task manager to make sure no firefox-related processes were running.
Some applications (i.e. Adobe Reader) install fancy "Speed Launchers" that are loaded at boot time and stay resident in memory. Unless these processes are manually killed before uninstallation, they may also be the reason why a reboot is necessary. However, Firefox should not do such a thing.
To summarize it, the question is: '''Which part of Firefox is running during uninstallation so that removal of the corresponding files is required?
Generally, I consider this a very bad software behavior, one that I would expect from some commercial software producer who wants to install his speedlaunch or logging stuff on my computer, but not from a free project like this one.
Firefox Portable does not do this, easily proving that technically it is not necessary. Earlier versions of Firefox also refrained from doing such a thing.
A piece of software requesting a reboot without good reason is what I consider a bug.

Aw, c'mon. Writing to the Windows registry never requires a reboot. This is ridiculous.
And Firefox did not need that bad behavior up to version 8 either. Why now?
This is not a Windows issue. You cannot alter files in Linux either if they are currently locked. The thing is that there is no sensible reason for any Firefox-related files to be locked at uninstallation time, which is why there should be no problem removing them.
I do not mean to rant, even though I am disappointed by this new behavior and would like to have it changed, but the least thing I really would like to know is exactly what is causing this. Why have the new versions of Firefox been programmed to require a reboot? Exactly which files need to be removed or changed that cannot be removed/changed during regular uninstallation, so that their removal/change needs to be scheduled for the next restart of Windows?

• Why does firefox keep crashing? I ran a scan and there was no spyware or malware. I uninstalled and reinstalled firefox. It doesn't happen in safe mode.

For some unknown reason firefox keeps crashing on my laptop computer. I mostly just use the internet for surfing and for emailing. It is very frustrating when I am trying to write an email and firefox crashes. I have unistalled and reinstalled firefox. I ran a McAfee scan on the computer and it has no problems with spyware or malware. It doesn't crash in safemode either. I am in safe mode now otherwise it would have crashed multiple times while getting to this page and typing this message.

If Firefox crashes frequently but stops crashing when you are in Safe Mode that is a pretty sure sign that there is something wrong with your individual setup of Firefox on your Windows 7 machine.
(The 99 others claiming to have the same problem this week probably have their own distinct and separate problems - if you are one of those 99 it may make sense to start your own questions about your problems, if you do not see suitable answers).
Many malware problems would continue even in Firefox's [[safe mode]], so the good news is that malware may not be your problem.
Note that safe mode does not disable plugins, you may wish to consider testing with your plugins disabled, just in case they are interacting with something. To temporarily disable plugins use
* '''Firefox button -> Add-ons -> |Plugins|'''
You do not list the Firefox extensions that are in use, maybe one of them is a problem. I suggest you try Firefox with half of them disabled, if that solves the problem, the troublesome add-on may be in the other half, disable them all and then try with half of the other half enabled. (If you have more than a handful of add-ons it is faster testing like that than enabling or disabling one at a time)
One very important question is how do you know Firefox is crashing ?
will you please explain exactly what happens, and what if any error messages you are seeing. (If firefox freezes/hangs that may be different from Firefox or the OS crashing, and require different solutions).
On a general note the following articles may help with troubleshooting:

• Why does Firefox keep me logged into websites after closing and reopening the browser?

As of today, Firefox has been behaving differently. Namely, when I close Firefox and reopen, I am still logged in to email and other sites. I have all of my privacy settings checked, such as clear history, offline data, form history, etc etc so that they all will be deleted upon closing but this has no effect. Can someone provide insight as to why this is happening and how I can correct it? Before today, after closing and reopening the browser I was required to log in to any sites requiring UN and PW.
I have rechecked all history deletion options to make sure all the appropriate ones were selected. Yesterday, I noticed inbox.com and a program called 24x7 Help were installed on the computer, without my knowledge. I promptly uninstalled them, but I'm not sure if they could somehow be responsible for the odd behavior.

Such a behavior indicates that you keep the cookie(s) that verify that you are logged on to a web server.
Are you using session restore to open those tabs automatically?
* Tools > Options > General > Startup: "When Firefox Starts": "Show my windows and tabs from last time"
You can set the browser.sessionstore.privacy_level pref to 2 (never) or 1 (non-HTTPS, default in Firefox 3 versions) on the about:config page to disable saving cookies via session restore.
You can change the browser.sessionstore.privacy_level_deferred pref that is used when you do not reopen the previous session automatically via "Show my windows and tabs from last time".

• Why does Firefox warn me "The URL is not valid and cannot be loaded" on just about everysight that I go to including my MSN homepage

When I open firefox and go to my home page I get The URL is not valid and cannot be loaded. This also happens when I access other pages. I click ok and then it opens up but I'm ready to go back to IE

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
See [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] and [[Troubleshooting plugins]]

If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all your extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
You can use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
You have to close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")

• Why does firefox sometimes just stop talking to the internet and just set there with the connection icon spinning and spinning and not going anywhere, when Thunderbird can still get email and any other program is not having trouble accessing the internet

sometimes fire fox will start talking again, most of the time it take a reboot to fix it, as it may set there spinning, for hours, and i do not have time to fool with it, and a reboot is a pain

• Why does Firefox force 8bit color quality when it starts and distort some elements of my screen?

Have no problem with other programs when I set color quality to 32bit. But when I start Firefox the screen looks like a low res screen. If I go look at the color quality in settings it will be at 8bit and changing it appears to fix things. Until I close Firefox and restart it then I am back to 8bit and poor looking graphics and even the windows start button will be messed up as well as the windows icon on the start button

Right-click on the shortcut that you use to start Firefox and select Properties, go to the Compatibility tab and de-select all of the settings.
If none of the settings are selected, repeat the above process, but this time using Windows Explorer right-click on the firefox.exe file, default location is C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe

• Why does Firefox 31 change all PDF icons and opening in browser, require a fix using REGEDIT to fix for ALL USERS on a computer?

The solution to use REGEDIT in the question linked below almost fixed my trouble with PDF files on over 30 computers, with several users on each computer:
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1013642
But I needed to fix it for ALL users on a computer, without logging onto each account, on each computer. My fix was to logon as administrator and change the following system-global key instead:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Classes\.pdf
Name: Default
Type: Reg_SZ
Data: FirefoxHtm
Changed the data from FirefoxHtm to AcroExch.Document.11
I use Adobe Reader XI on Win7 Pro, 64-bit machines.
The problem started when I ran a downloaded file to install the new version of Firefox on the computers.
Why would Firefox require me to use REGEDIT in this manner to fix the problem?

This only happens when you set Firefox as the default browser and Firefox thinks that there is currently no application the handles PDF files.

• In the home page why does Firefox say I haven't upgraded when I have. This has been going on for over three weeks, I am now on 9 and still it says I have not upgraded.

In the home page why does Firefox say I haven't upgraded when I have. So I upgrade again and still it says I haven't next time I log on. Today I upgraded to 9, it said congratulations on upgrading, I log off then log back on only to be told yet again I need to upgrade. What is going on?
