Why does firefox send these two messages several times a day?

'''firefox is in offline mode.'''
[i never check offline mode. i don't understand]. this occurs at least twice a day, and sometimes more.
'''The connection was reset.'''
'''The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading.''

Hello @susan649,
Welcome to the HP forums.
I understand that you are concerned about the amount of updates being sent to your Photosmart 6520.
I would like to help.
That is actually a lot more then normal. One every few weeks sure. four or more a day? Nope, not normal.
Perhaps the same update is not updating properly so it tries again later.
I would try setting a manual DNS.
The following post by happytohelp01 has steps and screen shots to perform this.
Efax 7510 still won't work after turning off/on ePrint several times
The screen shots are for an Photosmart 7510, but the steps are the same.
For the Manual Preferred DNS Server please use 8.8.8.8 and for the Alternate Preferred DNS server please use 8.8.4.4. These are Google’s public DNS servers. If you find that those DNS settings don’t work, some customers have had success using the Level3 DNS servers. I have included About.com’s Free & Public DNS Servers.
If your printer is still doing an abnormal amount of updates, please call our Cloud Services at 855-785-2777.

  • Why does my MBP restart itself randomly several times a day? Something about a "Panic Report".

Ok so my MacBook Pro shuts itself down and restarts at least 4 times a day. Usually this happens when im away from my computer and its been idle or sleeping or whatever it does, however just 30 minutes ago this happened while i was using it and then it wouldnt restart it just kept showing the loading "apple" logo with loading bars comntinuously spinning... I had to shut it down manually and then it took an extra long time to load before finally loading to the user login page. Now generally... upon start up after this "panic" i will recieve a"Panic report" that says something aloong the lines of...

What the HECK is happening and whats causing this???? How do i fix it?

That panic was not caused by third-party software. If the problem is recurrent, the possibilities are:
A stale or corrupt kernel cache
    A damaged OS X installation
A fault in a peripheral device, if any
    Corrupt non-volatile memory (NVRAM)
An internal hardware fault (including incompatible memory)
An obscure bug in OS X
You may already have ruled out some of these.
Rule out #1 by booting in safe mode and then rebooting as usual. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Post for further instructions.
You can rule out #2 and #3 by reinstalling the OS and testing with non-essential peripherals disconnected and aftermarket expansion cards removed, if applicable. Sometimes a clean reinstallation (after erasing the startup volume) may solve a problem that isn't solved by reinstalling in place, without erasing.
Corrupt NVRAM, which rarely causes panics, can be ruled out by resetting it.
If your model has user-replaceable memory, and you've upgraded the memory modules, reinstall the original memory and see whether there's any improvement. Be careful not to touch the gold contacts. Clean them with a mild solvent such as rubbing alcohol. Aftermarket memory must exactly match the technical specifications for your model. Memory that is either slower or faster than specified may be incompatible.
The Apple Hardware Test, though generally unreliable, will sometimes detect a fault. A negative test can't be depended on. Run the extended version of the test.
In the category of obscure bugs, reports suggest that FileVault may trigger kernel traps under some unknown conditions. Most, though not all, of these reports seem to involve booting from an aftermarket SSD. If those conditions apply to you, try deactivating FileVault.
Connecting more than one display is another reported trigger for OS X bugs.
In rare cases, a malformed network packet from a defective router or other network device can cause panics. Such packets could also be sent deliberately by a skillful attacker. This possibility is something to consider if you run a public server that might be the target of such an attack.
If none of the above applies, make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store to have the machine tested. You may have to leave it there for several days. There isn't much point in doing this unless you can reproduce the panic, or if you can't, it happens often enough that it's likely to be repeated at the store. Otherwise you may be told that nothing is wrong.
Print the first page of the panic report and bring it with you.
Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you know how to restore, and you have at least  two independent backups.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.
Keeping your confidential data secure during hardware repair
*An SSD doesn't need to be zeroed.

  • I use multiple monitors, and Firefox switches monitors by itself several times a day (to the main monitor). How to prevent this?

I use Firefox 4, but this happened with Firefox 3 as well.
I have two monitors. I run Firefox maximized on Monitor 2. It switches by itself to Monitor 1 several times a day.
None of my other programs exhibit this behavior.
    Windows 7 64-bit.
    Thank you!

I have a similar problem with Firefox 12 (Mac OS X 10.7.3). The main tool bar is on monitor 1 and I want to display browser windows on monitor 2. In previous versions this worked fine. Firefox automatically opened on the last used monitor. Now it will only open on monitor 1, and I have to switch it manually. Other software does not show this behavior. I have tried switching off hardware acceleration, to no avail. Is there anything else I can do?

  • Why does my Thunderbolt turn off 2-3 times a day?

I've had this phone for about 3-4 years now, and in the last 6 months, it turns itself off with no reason 2-3 times a day.  If I don't have my earpiece in, I don't know it until I go to use the phone.  It happens with any kind of charge, so that isn't it.  In order to restart, I have to remove the back of the phone and remove the battery to reset.  The confusing thing is that the light flashes at the top as if it's on.  It is VERY frustrating!  Any thoughts?

I too have had my Thunderbolt for nearly three years now, and it too tends to spontaneously reboot several times a day, I have noted that the phone does better if I plan to reboot it myself during the day when I am not needing it or expecting a call,
It is especially more troublesome after it was upgraded OTA to Android 4.0x over a year ago.  Even though I had my doubts about the validity of the download, VZW told me that I could reset the phone again to reload the update... but this doesn't work so well, either.
It also tends to take forever to place a call and could stack up a list of outgoing calls just by repeatedly pressing the call button in trying to provoke a response from the phone.  I have had several lockups that have required removing the battery and reinserting it in order to get it to reset.
There also has been the maddening screen alert that tells me that I have no sim card installed and that I have to activate it in order to use it.  Swipe the screen away and there is my old phone again.  I have had the sim replaced three times, and yet it persists.
There is no problem with the **** battery.  I have the HTC cradles all over the house and charger cables in the car.
A Verizon rep told me that the Thunderbolt was a known problematic phone.  I wonder why VZW hasn't fessed up and done right by its customers?

  • Why does Firefox trigger the UAC warning each time I open it?

I design websites and test them across most browsers. We use Windows 7 operating system, and only Firefox triggers the User Account Control message on our test computers, which is a major annoyance when opening instances of Firefox in rapidfire order as web designers do. Is there a way to disable it? The UAC is not triggered by Opera, Safari, Chrome and we have made sure we have not checked properties-compatibility tab - "Run this program as administrator" in both the Firefox.exe file as well as any desktop shortcuts - as advised by several people and contributors to Firefox forums. But that doesn't have an effect. Each time we test, we get the Windows 7 UAC message. We've written to Microsoft several times and they have not replied. We thought perhaps you'd have a solution that actually works.
    Thanks

I reinstalled first without deleting everything and then as you suggested. The program now comes up ok when I log in as administrator. However, it is the only program I have that suddenly won't work as a non-administrator without requesting that the administrator approve it to make changes to my computer. I have looked at the permissions and they are the same as for WordPerfect, for example. I don't expect that this program makes changes to my computer that will bother any other users.
Why does Windows 7 think that Firefox is going to change the computer for other users?

  • Why does Firefox send me back a few pages when I attempt to type into a text box???

I am sick and tired of this insane bug. It affects me on a daily basis. 20% of the time I attempt to type anything into any text box, for every keypress, Firefox will treat them as requests to 'go back' and it launches me several pages backwards through my browsing history in the tab. I then I have to skip forward and attempt filling it in again. It usually works after 1-2 attempts but like i said this is happening 20% of the time on text input forms, especially FARK.com.
    == This happened ==
    A few times a week

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
See [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] and [[Troubleshooting plugins]]
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all your extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
You can use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
You have to close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")

  • Why does Firefox send scary warning "This Connection is Untrusted" for URLs that I know are OK?

Example: I try to log on to renew automobile registration at www.DMV.state.pa.us or other innocuous locations and I receive that scary warning. So I log in on Explorer on my PC and the website works OK. Am I doing something wrong?

as far as I know, you are not doing anything wrong. I get the same message for some government managed pages. I believe it has to do with who furnishes their certificates.
Firefox has a article that explains security certificates here:
    http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/This%20connection%20is%20untrusted

  • Some sites have displays that include overlapped printing, making reading impossible. This doesn't happen with Safari. Why does Firefox produce these mis-aligned displays?

I use Firefox 3.6.12 on an iMac with OS10.6.4.

no. thats the first thing I thought of. it doesn't jump on mac safari, and you wouldn't need to zoom in on an ipad.
I say this just in case you went to the site on your ipad or mac.
do this from your iphone and be sure zoom in and then to scroll around alot. (side to side as you scroll down)
now it also could be some weird thing that happens when you zoom in. to read the article I have to pinch in enough to scroll sideways as well as scrolling down. I can't read microscopic print.
it doesn't jump until you attempt to scroll the page around scrolling to the side or to the bottom of the page.
I know not the touch the top of safari as that does indeed bounce it back to the top. and since this only happens on abc news and nowhere else I am thinking its them somehow.
my current guess is some ad that makes the page reload or something.

  • Firefox has recently started crashing several times each day. This does not appear to be related to any particular website but happens when I try to follow a link or close a tab. Why?

It has crashed at least 64 times since 11 August and never before that. That is the total number of reports in about:crashes.
The signature on the two reports I have queried is LookupNPP

Hey thanx for the help, it worked like a charm.
I think firefox changed the application lay out, as I used to be able to choose my PDF opener from the list at " Adobe Acrobat Forms Document' where I could choose Nitro-PDF reader, but it has now moved all the way to the bottom like you suggested to the obvious place of "Portable Document Format" section.
If someone didn't tell me , I wouldn't have scrolled all the way down to be able to find it... it really should be with all its cousins up the top...
    Cheers again..

  • Why does Firefox display a screen, then several (8-10) seconds later refresh that same screen ?

I am using Windows XP, and connect to Internet via slow AT&T DSL. When switching sites on the WEB, the screen from the site is displayed, then shortly afterward the screen gets refreshed automatically. Also of note, at the bottom of the screen, I can see verbiage explaining what is happening, EG; "Waiting for google", "Updating", "Transferring" etc, and the site name.

hello, can you try to replicate this behaviour when you launch firefox in safe mode once? if not, maybe an addon is interfering here...

  • Why does Firefox disable a Roboform extension each time it opens making me enable it each time

I am using the latest versions of Firefox (22) and Roboform ( 7.9.0) with the Firefox extension.
I have used both programs successfully together for many years.
The problem MAY have been evident in just the previous versions of either or both programs.
No other extensions are adversely affected.
I am using Windows 7 with all updates.

What does the State line of this plugin say on the about:plugins page?
You can open about: pages via the location bar just like you open web pages.
Make sure that you have installed the latest version.
Try to delete the pluginreg.dat file in the Firefox Profile Folder and maybe addons.sqlite as well to reset the plugin registry databases.

When I double click Firefox to open it, 3 Tabs automatically open. One is my home page but the other 2 are about plug ins being successfully installed. I want for only my home page to open. How do I make this stop?

But there aren't any symbols. It's just set to http://www.yahoo.com
And every time I open Firefox, it opens with 3 Tabs, one of which IS Yahoo but the other 2 a regarding plug ins being successfully updated. I've even gone as far as to uninstall those plug ins and it still opens with 3. About ready to uninstall Firefox and stay with IE

  • Why does firefox keep asking for permission every time it starts, it never has before?

I'm using Windows 7 and recently used CCleaner to clean my registry and now Firefox asks for permission to make changes to my computer every time it starts. I have checked for viruses and malware, tried running Firefox as the administrator, removed all but one of my add-ons but nothing helps. Any suggestions?

Check that you do not run Firefox as Administrator.<br />
Right-click the Firefox desktop shortcut and choose "Properties".<br />
In the Compatibility tab, make sure that Privilege Level: "Run this program as Administrator" is not selected.<br />
You also need to check the Properties of the firefox.exe program in the Firefox program directory.<br />
If you can't make the changes then you need to start Windows Explorer as Administrator.<br />
