  • Firefox does not ask whether I want to save multiple tabs when I close, and I must sign in to every website every time I go there (even ones that I've been to 100 times). Why? How do I fix this?

    This happened very suddenly. I have gone through Preferences carefully twice, checking all settings. Safari is not giving me similar problems so I assume the problem is with Firefox.

    You can reset the warn prefs on the about:config page via the right-click context menu.
    browser.tabs.warnOnClose , see http://kb.mozillazine.org/About%3Aconfig_entries
    browser.warnOnQuit , see http://kb.mozillazine.org/browser.warnOnQuit
    browser.warnOnRestart , see http://kb.mozillazine.org/browser.warnOnRestart
    To open the <i>about:config</i> page, type <b>about:config</b> in the location (address) bar and press the "<i>Enter</i>" key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website.<br />
    If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page.<br />

    You get message "firefox is still running" and computer restart doesn't help you. Try the advice below.
    Make sure Firefox isn't running (end firefox.exe process in Task Manager or restart computer)
    Find your profile folder
    C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\xxxxxxxx.default
    find file "parent.lock" in it and delete it (the file is empty, its function is to signify to Firefox whether it's already open or not).
    Then try to open Firefox again. Will it start or not? What will it say?

  • How can I get Firefox to stop saving the open tabs when it closes and reinstating them the next time it opens?

    Even tho' I've set options for Firefox to delete history when it closes, it still remembers my open tabs and tries to reinstate them the next time it starts. This causes two problems: 1) it takes longer for Firefox to close, such that if I start it again a few sec later it is still running and won't restart; 2) it sometimes reopens websites I am no longer want when it next starts. The latter also makes the last sites I visited visible to the next user, which I (and I suspect most other users) want to avoid. I would like to turn this feature off since it is far more of a problem than a benefit!

    @cor-el
    I have the same problem.
    My settings are already configured to "Show a blank page". It does show a blank page normally, but when FF crashes, it attempts to reload all the tabs from the previous session when it restarts. My version is: Firefox/3.6.13, and I'm running XP sp3 if that matters.

  • Since 20.0.1, firefox automatically saves my tabs when I close. I don't see any option to stop this. How do I stop this?

    When I close firefox, the tabs that I have open at the time of closing are saved. When I reopen firefox, those same tabs are reloaded. I don't like this. I would prefer to see my homepage first.
    This first became a problem after installing the most recent update to firefox, which is 20.0.1. I've searched, and I can't find an option to disable this.

    You can check the startup setting and make sure that "Show my home page" is selected.
    *Tools > Options > General > Startup: When Firefox Starts:
    Make sure that Firefox closes properly to make sure that Firefox isn't restoring a possibly crashed session.
    *Use "Firefox > Exit" (Windows: Firefox/File > Exit; Mac: "Firefox > Quit Firefox"; Linux: "Firefox/File > Quit") to close Firefox if you are currently doing that by clicking the close X on the Firefox title bar.

  • Firefox now keeps my tabs when I close the browser if file manager is still open. Can I turn this off?

    Used to be if I closed the browser while file manager was open it would close that session, and when I opened Firefox again, it would have a brand new session with the home page. Now I just get the same session as if I had only minimized the browser instead of closing it. Is there a way to change that?

    You can set the pref browser.download.manager.quitBehavior to 2 on the about:config page.<br />
    That will make Firefox ask for confirmation if you want to cancel the download if you close Firefox.
    See:
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/browser.download.manager.quitBehavior

  • Why does Firefox now ask for my master password every time I check my gmail account? Sometimes, but not always, for my Yahoo mail account. Never did this before. Thank you.

    Don't know how to add any more details.

    Websites remembering you and automatically log you in is stored in a cookie.
    * Create an allow cookie exception (Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: Exceptions) to keep such a cookie, especially for secure websites and if cookies expire when Firefox is closed.
    Make sure that you do not run Firefox in Private Browsing mode.
    * https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Private+Browsing
    * In [[Private Browsing]] mode all cookies are session cookies that expire if that session is ended, so websites won't remember you.
    * Do not use [[Clear Recent History]] to clear the "Cookies" and the "Site Preferences"
    Clearing "Site Preferences" clears all exceptions for cookies, images, pop-up windows, software installation, and passwords.

  • Firefox used to ask if I wanted to save my tabs when I exited. Now it does not and it closes everything. I don't want it to do that. How can I get my tabs to remain open? So far I'm really sorry I downloaded this version. Yuck!

    I think I found the refresh. What about keeping my tabs when I exit?

    That was really helpful. Thanks.

  • Firefox offers to save my tabs when I close it, but when I reopen it they are all blank pages and I cannot click on any except the one already displayed, though I can highlight and close the others..

    I have looked at various help topics but nothing is working; I have not deleted my history lately and nothing in my preferences is checked to do so automatically. I also tried deleting 'sessionstore.js' but that didn't help either. Firefox acknowledges that there are other tabs open by making them pop a little when my mouse goes over them, and as I said I can still close tabs that are not currently displayed, but I cannot click on them to bring them up.

  • Why does Firefox, like others, feel it's so important that their updated browser have a "brand new look"? I don't want a "brand new look." I'm happy with the look as it is. So I will NEVER go to Firefox4.

  • The latest version of Firefox no longer asks if you want to save open tabes for your next session..I HATE not having that option. What were they thinking?

    Question
    The latest version of Firefox no longer asks if you want to save open tabs for your next session..I HATE not having that option. What were they thinking? (I think this is self explanatory)

    Firefox 4 saves the previous session automatically, so there is no longer need for the dialog asking if you want to save the current session.<br />
    You can use "Firefox > History > Restore Previous Session" to get the previous session at any time.<br />
    There is also a "Restore Previous Session" button on the default <b>about:home</b> Home page.<br />
    <br />
    Another possibility is to use:
    * [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Menu_differences Firefox (Tools) > Options] > General > Startup: "When Firefox Starts": "Show my windows and tabs from last time"

  • In the new Firefox, I have no back button, no "most frequently visited" and there is no longer an option to save tabs when I close.

    Many features have disappeared. There is no back button to go to the previous page. There is no "most frequently visited" icon on the toolbar. I am not asked if I want to save all my tabs when I close firefox. There is no recently bookmarked tab on the toolbar. Everything takes longer to get to. The tabs don't automatically stay open.

    Do you still have the Bookmarks Toolbar visible?
    * [[Restore the default Smart Bookmarks Folders]]
    Check that you still have the "Bookmarks Toolbar items" placed on the Bookmarks Toolbar
    If the menu bar is hidden then press F10 or hold down the Alt key, that should make the "Menu Bar" appear
    Make sure that you have the Bookmarks Toolbar and the Navigation Toolbar visible: "View > Toolbars"
    Open the Customize window via "View > Toolbars > Customize" or via "Firefox > Options > Toolbar Layout"
    * Check in "View > Toolbars > Customize" that the "Bookmarks Toolbar items" is on the Bookmarks Toolbar
    * If the "Bookmarks Toolbar items" is not on the Bookmarks Toolbar then drag it back from the Customize window onto the Bookmarks Toolbar
    * If you do not see the "Bookmarks Toolbar items" or other items that are missing in the toolbar palette or on a toolbar then click the "Restore Default Set" button
