Why does Firefox switch focus to an immediately adjacent tab (in a series of tabs) on middle-clicking a link instead of staying on the same tab? (with setting of NOT switching to new tab).

I have usually 4 tabs open by default. If, for example, I'm in the first tab and middle-click a link to open a new tab, the tab opens but firefox focuses on the tab immediately adjacent to the tab I'm on (in this case, from tab 1 to tab 2 instead of staying on tab 1 whilst tab 5 is loading). The pattern repeats if I'm on tab x and open a new tab from tab x, but focus shifts to tab (x+1) instead of staying on tab x.
It happens more often than not, i.e. it sometimes stops but usually happens.
I have this setup for a year now and this is the first time this is happening. I believe since this latest update of 3.6.13.

This issue can be caused by an extension or plugin that isn't working properly.
Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
* Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

I saw a quick Firefox notice at the lower corner of my screen about security updates available or being installed so when I checked to see what they were, I found an installed update 3.6.7 on 7-20-2010, and the next one 3.6.8, said installed on 12-31-1969, the next one 3.6.8 says installed on 12-31-1969, and the last one 3.6.10 installed on 9-16-2010. Firefox safe mode is meant for diagnostic purposes and not for permanent usage.
Possible suspects can be the BitDefender extensions (BitDefender QuickScan, BitDefender Antiphishing Toolbar) and plugin (BitDefender QuickScan Web Netscape Plugin)
You can also remove the Java Console extensions and disable the Java Quick Starter extension.

Why does Firefox re-download a web page that has already appeared in my browser? VERY time-consuming! Chrome just saves from the cache!

Every time I go to save a web page or image, Firefox insists on re-downloading the page/image, which consumes a great deal of time. Chrome (and my other browsers) seem to save the item directly from the cache or memory, which is MUCH FASTER! Is there an option to make Firefox save more rapidly, ie directly from cache or memory, so I don't have to sit (and swear and fume) while the file is being RE-downloaded??

600+ MB does sound like a lot, but that depends on what you are using as your homepage, and how much of that 600 is being used by the plugin container - Flash and other plugins. Also, using that amount might have to do with how much RAM you have installed - the more RAM installed and the more Firefox allows itself to use. Can't access to several sites because when I click a link, or I insert login and password and clickto enter, it just open a new tab, either blank or the same as the previous. i.e., can't save my changes on FB, can't look for a location on googlemaps, etc.

I changed in about:config "network.protocol-handler.expose-all" setting it to "false" to allow me to use Sopcast player (which I added on "network.protocol-handler.app.sop"). But after that, every time I have to, i.e., look for a location on Googlemaps, when I entered it it just open a new tab with the same page I was in; every time I click on a link it doesn't redirect me, it open a new page; I can't save changes on Facebook because when I click on "save changes" it just open another FB home page in a new tab; same problem with opening my bank account, etc. Even here, I could not get in when I tried to login. Now I put back "true" on "network.protocol-handler.expose-all", but, of course, Sopcast doesn't work anymore. What can I do? I'm using Firefox 6.0.2 on Ubuntu 11.04. I think I may have found the problem. It's embarrassing to find it minutes after posting the message yet I tried to solve it off and on for three days! My brother who is a 20 year Mac user has been trying to help me too. I guess it's true what they say... sometimes it's better to be lucky than good. LOL
I turned off the parental controls. What I don't understand is that the no website restrictions box was checked. To me this means I should be able to go to any site I wanted. Can anyone explain why I couldn't got to a HTTPS page on a parental controlled account even though there were no restrictions placed on it?
It's late and I need sleep. I'll leave this open for now until I have more time to test it.

Although possibly not related to your problem, I have to remind you that the version of Firefox you are using at the moment has been discontinued and is no longer supported. On top of this, it has known unpatched bugs and security problems. I urge you to update to the latest version of Firefox, for maximum security, stability, performance and usability. As for your problem, make sure your instructing Firefox to open the link in a new tab. For example, middle-clicking (pressing the mouse wheel or the central button of the mouse) the link will open it in a new tab.
If that doesn't help, it's possible that you are having a problem with some Firefox add-on that is hindering your Firefox's normal behavior. Have you tried disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal?
Whenever you have a problem with Firefox, whatever it is, you should make sure it's not caused by one (or more than one) of your installed add-ons, be it an extension, a theme or a plugin. Why does it take at least 3 hours to watch an Apple/iTunes movie, yet Netflix downloads in seconds? Both are accessed through the same AppleTV device?

I have owned my AppleTV for about 6 months, and it didn't take this long initially, what happened? And it cannot be a download setting issue through my Airport since downloads from Netflix takes roughly 30 seconds. Youtube about the same. What is Apple doing? MASSIVE PROBLEMS YET THEY ARE IGNORING THIS ISSUE ON THEIR SITE! IS THIS A FAILED PRODUCT? Should I buy a Roku? I've heard they work much better.

Netflix has variable quality streams - they get worse as internet bandwidth drops. iTunes content is fixed quality/bitrate and enough has to download to enable uninterrupted playback as the end of the film downloads while you watch.

Why does Firefox take me to a page that says, "Oops Page cannot be found" when I click on a link in a secure site. Not with IE: only Firefox.

If I go to a secure site and click on a link, it take me to "Oops Page cannot be found". I have reset Firefox, uninstalled it and re installed it, disabled my Add Ons, and every other suggestion from the forum. Nothing works and this does not happen with IE. Is the bottom line that I must use IE for these sites? I would prefer Firefox but cannot solve this problem.

I have two antivirus programs on my computer. The default windows thing and MalwareBytes (which I perform a full scan with everyday) and I still have the problem.
Hate to be a "problem child" but could anyone post an answer to this problem that isn't something that is obvious that should be done like resetting firefox or check for a virus or mess with the tabs options which I have tried every combination of the options that could be tried.
I mean does anyone else anywhere have this same problem? What I don't understand is that I posted this question two days ago and it doesn't look like anyone else has asked for help with this same issue.
What I really don't understand is why I can't find out anything doing an internet search using "why does Firefox keep returning to the webpage i am currently on when i open a new webpage" and so far no one has suggested something I have already tried.

Why does firefox keep changing things up with new versions?

It really bothers me that Firefox keeps changing things, namely the user interface with new versions. They move buttons around like the back / forward, and refresh button. If I don't have the latest version I get prompted to download it each time I open my web browser. Now with this latest update I got a good inch and a half at the top of my screen that should be gray but is transparent and shows my desktop background. Also, I like to right click and 'open link in new' tab a lot, I thought it used to be 'open link in new window' first than 'open link in new tab' second. They switched them around now I'm opening new windows instead of tabs from clicking the second option by habit. Its not that big of a deal but why keep changing it up when I'm comfortable with what I know.

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.

There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins" 
If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile (be careful not to copy corrupted files)

Why does firefox 7 crashes the system with a Quadro NVS 135M graphics cards installed?
It happens immediately after opening Firefox on a two screen system. You get a message saying the Graphics Driver stopped responding, but that it managed to recover, but after a while the system freezes completely. You can't even CTRL+ALT+DEL.

I get this too on with my nVidia GTX460 card. In my case the screen goes black. It happens once every few days, and for a while I could not figure out why. I was forcing a shutdown to get the screen back.
But I put the computer to sleep and woke it up, since that restarts the video, and this let me see what was wrong. The only error message is it reports that Firefox hung. There is nothing else in the Event logs.
I'm running Windows 7 with all the updates from Windows Update, and my video driver is 285.62, but his also happened with the 260.26 driver.
I imagine this is happening a lot, but people aren't able to isolate the cause.
I'm looking for a fix, not a bypass.
