Why does flash player keep sending update requests when I have already installed latest version?

Flash player keeps sending update requests and when I try to install it tells me I need to close internet explorer when it isn't open. How do I make it stop?

Right click ANY flash content and choose "Global Settings" Under Advanced, you can check the version and set updating preferences.

Why does Flash Player keep sending me notifications to update to the version I already have? The result is always an error message telling me that the version is already running. (Desktop Computer; Windows Vista OS; Firefox; Adobe Flash Version 11.8.800.94)

I don't know; can you post a screenshot of such a notification?
Did you update both ActiveX (for Internet Explorer) and plugin (for Firefox)?

  • Why does Flash Player keep instisting I install?

Even after I've installed multiple times -- deleting my "old" version first, and reinstalling.
I've even checked my Win32 folder, and indeed Adobe Flash is installed!
But I keep getting messaged to "install the latest version of Flash" -- or suffer the consequences!
There is now an ugly pop-up that accompanies this advice.
    What is the deal?
In browsing around this Forum, I see multiple people  have had this issue (with no completely satisfactory solution offered. However, one line of advice did suggest checking for the latest/greatest version of Javascript for a proper installation of Flash, so I'll try that.)
It doesn't seem unreasonable to expect that Adobe engineers are sophisticated enough to allo for a specific instructions as to WHAT the problem is, for each download. Seems most Microsoft issues have this sort of advice available, either through the company's knowledge base (usually by error #) or intelligent pop-ups.

    Hi Pat,
Thanks for your ongoing assistance! I'm not sure of the Firefox plugin to which you're referring. Can you please be more specific?
I did try to find the reference to JS, and came up with this (I don't think it's exactly what I found the first time around, but seems close enough. http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/installation-problems-flash-player-windows.html  (the JS reference is second down).
My JS has been re-enabled, as I mentioned; I did that when I updated. (There WAS indeed some older security issue with JS that made its way through browserville. http://stackoverflow.com/questions/373818/whats-with-those-do-not-use-javascript-people. I didn't follow the specifics but there was a while where I had it disabled).
I'm noticing on the helpx link, above, that it also references something about ActiveX. I actually have no idea what ActiveX is or does, but I do know that when I initially switched to Firefox (from IE) it said there was an ActiveX conflict, and disabled some functions of ActiveX. I'm not sure if that was since resolved and the ActiveX re-enabled. I have done several MS auto-updates since then, and suspect it may have been re-enabled automatically.
Do you think ActiveX could have something to do with my problem?
I just remembered an rather intrusive message I keep getting while browsing Facebook with Firefox, so I logged on using IE8 and did NOT get the message. So my issue does seem specific to Firefox. (attaching a pic with the error message)

  • Apple configurator prompt to update iTunes when it's already the latest version

Hi there! We were trying out the Apple Configurator to help us in mass deploying our iPads for education purpose. However, when we tried to sign in with the Apple id it keeps prompting us to update our iTunes to the latest version. But problem is our iTunes was the latest version. Because of this we are not able to import any .ipa apps into it. Any help would be appreciated... Thanks!
Our iMac is running on Mac OS X 10.10 Yosmite
    iTunes is currently version 12.0.1.26
Our apps are all freeware. No license.
Our iPads were mostly iPad 2 and iPad w/ Retina Display

  • Why does flash player not work with facebook?

Why does flash player not work with fcebook?  Whenever I wish to view a video, I get the message that i need to upgrade my flash player. Then no matter how often I download and install flash player I still get the message that I need to upgrade my flash player.  When I go check which version I have, I always get the message that I have the most current one.  I run Mozilla Firefox with Windows.  I don't know anything else.

This means you don't have the latest version installed.  Update to 11.9.900.117, and Firefox will allow it: Flash Player Plug-in (All other browsers)

  • In the home page why does Firefox say I haven't upgraded when I have. This has been going on for over three weeks, I am now on 9 and still it says I have not upgraded.

In the home page why does Firefox say I haven't upgraded when I have. So I upgrade again and still it says I haven't next time I log on. Today I upgraded to 9, it said congratulations on upgrading, I log off then log back on only to be told yet again I need to upgrade. What is going on?

You may see that message below the Google search box on www.google.com/firefox which is the old Firefox default home page. It appears that page is no longer being maintained. You appear to have Firefox 8.0.1 installed which is the latest version.

  • It is telling me to update flashplayer when I have already

It is telling me to update flashplayer when I have already.

To help troubleshoot we'll need the following system information:
    Operating   system
    Browser
    Flash   Player version
When reporting issues with video or audio, it's also helpful to get your system hardware and driver details.  Instructions for finding this information can be found here:
    Windows
    Mac
Finally, sometimes video and audio problems are caused at a lower level and not directly related to Flash Player.  I recommend trying both of the links below to see how they perform.  If the problem exists with both, then Flash Player is most likely not the culprit as the HTML5 video link does not use Flash Player when playing.  You can verify the use of HTML5 by right clicking the HTML5 video and looking for the words "About HTML5" at the bottom of the context menu.
    HTML5   video
    Non-HTML5 video

  • Why do I get an "invalid signature" message when trying to download the latest version of iTunes?

Why do I get an "invalid signature" message when trying to download the latest version of iTunes?  Apple Support is the lamest excuse for support I have EVER seen.

That suggests that the installer is getting damaged during the download.
I'd first try downloading an installer from the Apple website using a different web browser:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
If you use Firefox instead of IE for the download (or vice versa), do you get a working installer?

  • TS3694 Why does my ipod keeps powering off, and when I turned if on, I have to press down the power button and the screen button at the same time ???

Why does my ipod keeps powering off, when I have to turn it on ... I have to press on the power button and the screen button at the same time ??? over and over again. I just got this in December 2011 as a gift.

I am having similar 'freezing' problems with many programs (Mail, Safari, iTunes, etc.). I have done a clean install of Lion instead of an upgrade when it came out. Perhaps something went wrong with my install? I'm thinking about wiping and reinstalling.

Why does my iphone shut down my computer when I plug into the USB port when I have pictures on my phone.  My computer says it has found a new digital camera - then my computer shuts down.

Thank you Lawrence.  I forgot I used to run a Logitech webcam several years ago and I hadn't uninstalled program when I changed the camera to a different one.  I uninstalled the camera and it now seems to accept my phone with pictures onto my computer without shutting my computer down. I really appreciate your help with this problem.

  • How do I update 7.0 so I can install latest version?

Hw do I update version 7.0 so that I can install latest version of Adobe?

    Hi,
Which application are you trying to upgrade from the version of 7.0?  Is it Adobe Reader or Adobe Acrobat?
If it is Adobe Reader you can download the latest version of Reader from www.adobe.com.
If it is Adobe Acrobat you can either subscribe the latest version or purchase the application and please see http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat.html?promoid=JOLIR.
    Thank you.

  • Why does Flash Player Update ask for update preferences if it has no intention of retaining them?

I find it completely maddening that Flash Player Update asks me for my update preferences every time I update it.  Retain my preferences if you're going to ask for them.  Furthermore, I'm never going to install Mcafee, please provide me a way to disagree with their terms of service so you don't have to ask anymore.
    Thanks!

I also find this issue deeply frustrating. Every time Flash Player installs it asks again, and every time it's reset the option back to "Allow Adobe to install updates". Unless I'm mistaken, the only people who see this window are those who selected the "Notify me" option previously, so there's absolutely no reason why it should be reset every time.
Except that I assume the reason is because Adobe wants to trick those people who simply click-through into choosing the "Allow" option. I can understand the security motivation for persuading people to have updates installed automatically, but for anyone making an active choice to have notifications, it's actually very annoying, especially when it must have been a conscious policy decision by Adobe.
I've opened a feature request/bug on this as suggested: https://bugbase.adobe.com/index.cfm?event=bug&id=3485588
Here's a screenshot of the offending window for reference:

  • Why does Flash Player prompt me to install an incompatible version on Mac?

Users of OS X 10.5 and 10.4 have noticed that with the release of Flash Player 11, the auto update mechanism will prompt them that an update is available.  While this is typically normal behavior when an update occurs, in this case Flash Player 11 does not support 10.4 and 10.5.   So, why is the updater telling them to update?
Unfortunately, our current auto update mechanism isn't able to determine if a new update is compatible with the current OS version.  We are aware that this isn't optimal, but we did add in logic to help minimize the noise.  Here's what will happen.
A user of an unsupported OS will get a notification that a new update is available
They'll download the update and attempt to install
The installer will notice that the OS is not supported and will:
Alert the user with an error telling them that the OS is unsupported
Set a flag telling the update mechanism to stop checking for future updates
So while you'll get one update notification, once the installer tells the auto update mechanism to stop you shouldn't see any more.

Can you post a screenshot of such an update notice?

  • Why does Flash player not work on samsung galaxy tablets?

Hello, I am wondering why they do not have flash player for samsung galaxy tab 3? I just recently got the 8.0 sized one and it has great features, but no flash player? To have an up to date electronic device, and older electronic devices carry it,but you won't put it on new devices? Is there a way to get it to work or download it? It has stopped me from viewing many different things on my tablet unfortunately and this may cause me to return it.

Android dropped all support for Flash last year (June 2012).
Going back to 2006, when Apple released the first iPhone and iOS 1, Steve Jobs was insistent that it be made incompatible with Flash Player because (in his words) playing Flash content is processor consumptive and kills batteries, and well as shortening battery life in mobile devices. Android came along a little while later, but their reason for droppiong Flash last year was the same.
Adobe continued developing "security updates" for the Flash Player that worked with older versions of Android, but even that ended in September of this year. Adobe will not continue development of a product for an incompatible format.
Android recommends either "Dolphin" or "Puffin" browser from the GooglePlay store (both are free). They use "server side" technology to play Flash content without taxing your tablet or phone's processor.
