Why does GoPro Cineform Support Alpha Channels?

Recently, Adobe Media Encoder started supporting GoPro Cineform for use as an intermediate format for video captured with a GoPro camera. One of the main points that GoPro gave as a benefit of this was that the codec supports Alpha channels. I'm wondering how and why a GoPro would record Alpha channels? It's my understanding that they are used as transparency information, and I don't see how the camera would record transparent video.
So, why does Cineform support alpha channels

Hi,
I wonder if something is wrong with your installation of photoshop cc?
Here's what i see and get in photoshop cc (photoshop version 14) on a windows 7 system with
Filter>Render>Lighting Effects.

  • Why does cellular not support phone features?

iPad Mini with Retina display has a celluar capability. Why does it not support full phones features, doubling as an iPad and phone like the iPhone 5S does?

And I don't mean to seem rude. I have worked in product development many years with a very large company. I have also challenged engineers and developers to look beyond the basics to deliver something that sets the trend adn differentiates itself from the pack.
Apple as that trend-setter created awesome products in the form of the iPad Air and the iPad Mini w/ RD. It is extraordinary in the leading technologies they incuded in the  package. It would have been BRILLIANT though, to have converged both as an IPad and a phone. It would have propelled the iPad light years ahead of the competition.

  • Why does Canon NOT support the Canon Utilities software?

The Canon Map Utility software can not detect my Canon GPS Receiver GP-E2.  Over the phone, Canon "Customer Support" had me uninstall all 10 Canon Utilities that I had previously installed, and then let me install only 8 older versions of Canon Utilities.  And, the Canon Map Utility software STILL could not detect my Canon GP-E2.
Why doesn't Canon have ANYONE who knows the Canon Utility software?  The first support rep had NEVER used any of the software!  And the second support rep, whom I was transfered to by a Supervisor who told me that this was the most experienced support person for the software, has only used the software ONCE!
Why does Canon NOT SUPPORT Canon software?????

When I use the GPS-E2 on my camera, the pictures have are geotagged.  It's when I try to use the GPS log that Map Utility has a problem.  I like the idea of recording where I went, not just where each picture was taken.  That way, I can see where I found nothing to take pictures of.

  • Why does Verizon not support Windows 8 for wi fi?

Why does Verizon not support Windows 8 for wi fi?  Are they planning on supporting Windows 8?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Verizon wi fi for hot spots does not work with Windows 8.  For verification go to FAQs about Verizon Wi-Fi for FiOS Internet,
http://www.verizon.com/Support/Residential/Internet/fiosinternet/networking/setup/wi-fi/124650.htm , and click on How do I know if my laptop or netbook is compatible with Verizon Wi-Fi? .  Verizon wireless home network does work well with Windows 8.
Since you can't even download the wi fi for hot spots software if you have Windows 8, I don't know how to use compatability mode to get around the problem,

  • Why does Adobe not support tablets or Kindle Fire

Why does Adobe not support tablets or Kindle fire?

    You have it backwards.
Tablets (Kindle, Galaxy, iPad) don't support Flash.
    Chronologically:
2008 (March) - Apple® releases the first iPhone, using iOS®. Steve Jobs is insistent and adamant that iOS® is NOT compatible with Flash® and NEVER WILL BE. Jobs' reasoning is that playing Flash® content is processor consumptive and it drains batteries, thus shortening the life of them in mobile devices. In six years, that hasn't changed. Not for the iPhone®, iPad® or iPod® Touch™. It never will change and there never will be a Flash Player® for iOS®.
2008 (September) - Google® introduces Android™ to compete with iOS®, for people who don't want to pay what Apple® is asking for an iPhone®. Android®, unlike its Apple® counterpart IS compatible with Flash®.
2012 (June) - Android™ (Google®) announces the end of support for Flash® with Android™ 4.3. Going forward NO Android™ devices will be compatible with Flash®, but older versions on older devices can still be loaded with "legacy" builds still available from Adobe®. Android™ (Google®) cites the same reason Apple® did for the decision to end support of Flash®. Adobe® continues to release security patches to Flash Player® for Android™ until September 2013, announcing the "end of life" for Android™ Flash® September 10.

  • Why does Mail not support read receipts?

I find it hard to believe that there is a single email application that doesn't support read receipts. For me it is a fairly basic feature I would expect any decent Mail application to have.
I am currently in the process of writing an email to a company and I want to make sure they get it - a read receipt is how I want to verify that they've had it. Why does Mail not support this?
If I am going to have to accept that Mail is not the first class application Apple keeps parading around - is there an alternative that offers this and other features I would expect to find in Microsoft Outlook (minus the calendar etc...)?

Outlook uses a Microsoft-proprietary system for "read receipts", so there may be no way Apple could implement it, or there may be licensing fees involved, or Apple may just not feel that it's worth spending the money to implement. Outlook which is designed to work primarily with an Exchange server, so it's in Microsoft's interest to support Exchange features (note that even Microsoft in their own Mac app do not support all the features theydo on Windows).
You can express your interest in this feature to Apple via their feedback pages, if you wish:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html
but support for return receipts in any system other than Exchange is very unlikely, since as Matt said it is not part of the Internet email specification and hence not widely supported at all.

  • Why does apple only support mp4 videos?

It's not really a problem, i usually use my friends computers to convert my videos since mine is so slow.
But why does apple only support MP4 and MOV formats? Why not MPEG or DivX?
I know they cannot use WMV because it is a Microsoft format.
It's just sometimes when i convert videos, the audio becomes out of sync or iTunes complains it's not playable on my iPod.
I would just like to know why?
    Thanks for your time.

If Apple chooses to go with H.264 or MP4 or whatever else they want to support, maybe it would be real nice if iTunes could automatically convert to those formats. So if I dropped my universally standard (and supported by most DVD players) DivX video clip in the library, iTunes would convert and format the video to an iPod friendly format.
So, let me see if I understand this correctly. You want Apple to pirate proprietary codecs from DivX and build them into iTunes QT access. Tell me, does this mean that Apple is working as your agent and you will be the one spending time behind bars or paying the fines. Or, are you saying that Apple should act as an agent for DivX and charge you for a version of iTunes with legal codecs installed. How about Windows Media? Want to double the cost? What about Real? Or maybe Apple should have different versions of iTunes -- one for you and one for the guy who lives next door who uses old Indeo files?
I have tried several 3rd party converters and they all suck.
Perhaps you should be more selective in choosing a converter or invest in a commercial product which is supported by the people selling it.

  • Why does Apple not support GiffGaff?

GiffGaff allow you to tether and use your standard data allowance, but Apple don't even recognize GiffGaff as a network - so you can't enable any kind of tethering. The only workaround appears to be to jailbreak your phone. Why does Apple not support this network?

    Nobody here would know that.

  • Why does not java support raw sockets?

Java does not have support for raw sockets, that means it cannot receive the packet header, just the payload data.
But the header data of an ICMP packet consists of 20 bytes, and you can still write single bytes in Java, so why isn´t is possible to write a header for an ICMP packet in Java?
Can someone explain how it all works?
    Thanks!

You can do raw sockets with third party libraries. They won't be pure java - but you didn't really expect to do raw sockets on your cell phone or TV set top box, or spy and spoof someone's network using an applet.
The FAQ for one such library hints what kind of a mess raw sockets are due to differences in common operating systems; see http://www.savarese.com/software/rocksaw/

  • TS1702 Why does iPad not support adobe flash player

Why does the Ipad not support Adobe Flash Player ?

No Flash for iPads, iPhones, or iPods
Here's why there's is no Flash available for iDevices or other mobile devices. Adobe was unable to provide a product that was suitable to the needs of battery powered mobile devices used for Internet browsing. Existing Flash technology used too much memory, ate battery life, and was buggy. Simply put Flash did not work well on mobile devices.
Apple's Steve Jobs led the escape from Flash dependency when Apple introduced the iPhone, and later introduced the iPad. There was a hue and cry over the omission. Time proved Jobs was right on target.
So this is why there is no Flash for your iPhone or iPad or iPod nor for most SmartPhones. Flash has been abandoned by many sites in favor of supported technologies such as HTML5 or by providing their own custom app.
Here is Steve Jobs official comment on his momentous decision to omit Flash from iDevices: Steve Jobs on Flash.
Here is Adobe's later announcement to cease development of Flash for mobile devices: Adobe on Mobile Flash. Adobe is not providing Flash for Apple iOS devices, and they no longer provide Flash for any other cellular phones. Flash is officially gone.
Now, you are not necessarily out on a limb. There are some apps that can display some Flash, but don't count on there ability to display anything using Flash.
A sample of Apps that can display some Flash content:
      1. Puffin
      2. SkyFire
      3. Photon Flash
      4. Browse2Go
      5. Swifter
Also, note that many sites that use Flash provide their own app for accessing their material. So check with your favorite sites and find out if "there's an app for that."

  • IM08 supports alpha channels/'transparency'

in case, this is new to you (it was for me...):
iM08 supports pictures, which contain alpha-channels..
so, it is now quite easy for the ambitious iMovie-maker, to add 'bugs', 'mattes', even soft-bordered 'masks' to your project.
as an example, I'm adding here a 'bug' (=stationairy logo') to one of my projects....
I create a picture in Photoshop Elements, containing transparency as 'background', and my lil' logo drops a shadow (not seen in this size). I then import to iPhoto, as .tiff, which transport transparency-info ... the Photo-bin shows it (1)
than, the usual routine: drag it over your video (2) ... the blue blar indicates the position in time, you can elongate it, etc.
as you see in the preview (3), my logo is added, ... in the final movie, it drops a nice semi-transparent shadow onto my video..
for sure, you can create in a pic processor other things to 'add', e.g. 'dream masks/mattes', which add the movie a fade-to-white borders (flowers?), ... or, simple arrows, circles, boxes for instructional videos.. keep imagine!
a more elaborated and illustrated How-To as usual on my site:
    http://karsten.schluter.googlepages.com/im08tricks
(.. lists gets longer, should think about restructruring that...)
just to mention that: that was NOT possible with iMHD≤6 ...
    Have Fun with iMovie!

In addition to what David says:
if you rendered your timeline already, then exports will have black background.
If it's unrendered and then export, then the alphachannel will be included (with a codec that supports alphachannels of course)
to check what you are exporting: in the top of the canvas click the most right (of three) button and choose Checkerboard as the background.
If you now see the checkerboard, then you'll export with alphachannel. If you see black background then you've already rendered, and black will be exported. You can trash your renders using Tools > render manager. Or simply drag a clip over (1 videolayer higher) your title clip. And then delete this clip. It flushes your render.
    Hope this helps
    Rienk

  • Why does firefox drop support for a plugin with an update

Why the H*ll does Firefox drop support for a plugin when there is an update in Firefox.
FF4 has reported that 6 of my plugins that work fine in 3.6 are now not supported. !! This is a joke, and happens regularly.
As a user (a highly IT literate one) this is annoying and frustrating, and from a design standpoint, unprofessional.

Plugins as in Flash, Java, quicktime or such or do you mean Extensions ?
Plenty of Plugins seems to be detected and in use by Firefox 4.0 just fine according to your system details by your post.
If you meant Extensions then check for updates, look at addons.mozilla.org or the Extension homepage for to see if the author has provided a update.
Generally Extensions can need anywhere from a simple maxversion bump to a lot more for it to work properly on a new Major version of Firefox depending on what the Extension does.
It is professional actually as extensions that were not actually compatible may actually cause problems big or small if they were to still just ''work'' in a new Major version release so hence the need for them to be properly up to date on any changes and hopefully the extension author is quick about it.

  • Why does Mozilla/Firefox support OS X 10.4.11 and Apple does not?

I have a RELIABLE PowerMac B/W with a Sonnet G4 processor. I can not install Leopard/Snow Leopard because it seems that this software release requires an Intel processor. Being on a fixed income, I am unable to just go out and purchase a new Mac. As far as the new Safari System requirements, Safari 5.0.4 supports OS X 5.0 and above, Windows XP, Vista and 7. Windows XP has been around for quite a while, yet Apple will write code to support Windows XP but not for Mac OS X 10.4.11. Why is that?

    JPHP,
Thank you for you input concerning my problem. I, too have an iBook G3. I can't get updated versions of Acrobat Reader or Flash, but that is Adobe. I just think Apple should know it product line's interest. If anything, they could just look at"Discussions to get an idea of what product is still alive by questions that are being asked. Apple has a reliable Product that is dependable and lasts. We all paid good money for our computers, treated it properly and that explains the longevity of our computers. So why do they not support their existing embedded products?
Just out of curiosity, I know I need more RAM, but would you know if CPU speed 500Mhz would meet minimum requirements?

  • Why does Apple not support Java Runtime Environment?

I am a U.S. Armed Forces Service Member, and I have ran into this problem so many times along with millions of other people, and I would like to ask Apple why don't you support JRE?  My job requires me to use websites that is designed for government use to run on Java. I travel a lot, and I work on the go; I love using my apple products such as the IPad, but when it comes down the sites that I must use, I can't. It is very frustrating and impossible to get the job done without accessing these sites. Apple, you would get so much more support/business if you would allow your faithful followers to have access to Java. Specifically JRE 1.5+.  I still do not understand the reason why Apple has consistently refuse to work with Java based application. Apple, please swallow your pride and give your supporter something to keep going with. Thank you.
    Regards,
    U.S. Navy Service Member.

    One take on it here:
    http://www.codenameone.com/3/post/2013/01/why-oracle-wont-issue-java-for-ios-any time-soon.html
As James said, you can comment to Apple, but given the many serious security problems that have and continue to be discovered in Java, the chance of Apple implementing or allowing a Java engine in iOS is vanishingly small.
Expanding on what Phil said, there is at least one app/service combination,  VirtualChrome, which says it supports Java. But you could achieve the same result with probably more control over security by just taking control of a desktop system running Java.
    Regards.
