Why does ical delete my past events when all settings indicate that it should not?

All of the boxes, about deleting past events, in ical preferences are unchecked, so I can't figure out why ical deletes my past events. Could it be because of a setting on either my iphone or ipad causing this to happen?

I had the same problem a few weeks ago and called apple support. The solution is as follows:
Most apple users have multiple devices using icloud such as an iPdad, iPhone, and other computers. In my case, I had two computers, two iPads, and one iPhone. After speaking to apple support, I realized that one of my ipad's setting were set to delete events older then 2 weeks. In short, if you are expeirienceing problems with ical deleteing events, you better check all your devices. If just one of them is set wrong in your preferences, you will lose past events. Even check computers you gave to your cildren or other members of the family. You will probably find out that the settings on one of these machines is causing your problems.

Why does ical automatically delete information on calendar after eight months or so? Why doesn't data which has been inserted on calendar remain on the relevant dated calendar? (Apart from actually saving or backing up calendar).

How are your settings in iCal preferences set?
iCal-->Preferences-->Advanced-->Delete events __ days after they have passed.

Why does my calander lose past events

My calendar loses past events. Everything from 30 days ago back is gone. Do i have something set wrong?

If you are syncing with a calendar on another computer, you may have the iPad settings set to a limited number of events. To check, go into Settings, Mai/Contacts/Calendars, and scroll down to the Calendars section. Tap Sync and select the number of months back you wish to sync. You may want to consider choosing All Events to have your calendar completely up to date.

Why does iCal always show 12:00am when I print calendar?

When I print a calendar month or email an event, the info shows a time of 12:00AM, as well as the actual correct time of appointment. Can I change something in Preferences to rectify this problem? Or what are other suggestions to fix this?

Damon's post is correct, but you don't have to disable the Time Zone to get this to work. Just set the time zone there in addition to the clock app. (I had choosen a time zone in the clock app, but the Date & Time - Time Zone value was empty and I was 'losing' 3 hours.)
Settings -> General -> Date & Time -> Time Zone -> (Enter/pick a city)
It just works (now)!

Why is ical automatically setting new events as "all day" events in Lion

After upgrading to Lion, everytime I add a new event in the Month panel it automatically selects the "all day" checkbox. It didn't used to do this and it's kind of annoying....anybody else?

Default event creation in Month view results in an all day event.
Lion iCal Help (Add events to a calendar) says: "Add a new event in Month view by double-clicking within the day you want the event to appear. Enter a name and time duration for the event in the event’s title field, and then press Return."
So, in your case try entering "Meeting at 9am"...that will create a one hour event named Meeting.
Lion iCal data detectors are supposed to make entry easier??

Following a seemingly successful call to a session bean my Sun appserver appears to hog the machines CPU resources, but I do not know what it is doing.
*** Problem detail ***
I am running Sun Java System Application server 8.1 on windows xp with 1 gig of memory.
I have happily deployed and can run a couple of sample EJB's, e.g. Converter from the J2EE tutorial and a modified/copied version that is basically a "helloworld" type session bean.
I have now successfully built and deployed a more complex session bean that uses IBM Toolbox classes to invoke functions on an AS/400(iSeries).
After this session bean is seemingly sucessfully invoked, the appserver seems to hog the CPU of my PC but it is not clear what it is doing.
I see no obvious errors in the server.log file for the domain.
I see not repetitive behaviour in the logs.
Even when I stop all the modules in the app server, via the deploytool, the task manager still shows appsevr.exe using 60-75% of the CPU.

How can I determine what the server is doing?

My session bean requires some IBM jar files at run time. So, I have added the IBM jars to domain_dir/lib/ext, as per the Java Optional Package mechanism (http://docs.sun.com/source/819-0079/dgdeploy.html#wp69906). Perhaps this is confusing the server??

Same problem appears with Sun Java System Application Server 8.1 and 8.2.
Does anyone knows about a solution ?
I can't imagine that DB2 Toolbox JT400 JDBC Driver has never been used against SJSAS by SUN technicians...
After a server stop all modules appears to be down, all session beans have been previously removed, but appserv.exe process do not shut down on Windows OS.
I hope someone from SUN can show a suitable workaround soon, this problem is really noisy.

Everything is organized the way I like it, but once I go to print, it rearranges the order of my events!

Hi PeterWCM, for what it's worth, the Apple help desk in Oz reckons we've uncovered a tech glitch in the software and that they replicated the described faults! But it only happens between specific dates (sometime in early Nov 1974, and runs through to today!)i.e; dates before Nov '74 aren't affected and some dates since!
We "trouble shooted" by inserting (made-up) dates in Addressbook and then watching when iCal updated. By a process of trila and error we nailed down the start of the problem to 2nd Nov '74!
Anyhow, they seemed to think there would be a "patch" issued in Jan...?
It MAY still be linked to timezone probs...not really sure!
Please let me know if you find a solution?

why does iphoto delete placeholder text when I try to send photo in email?

When I downloaded photos from a camera SD card using an adapter, I noticed two Albums were created in the Photo app.(Last Import & All Import). Like you stated, there is no option to delete excess photos without deleting all of them. So this is the lengthy steps I went through to delet the extra album (I hope someone comes up with a shorter process):
1) Connect iPad into your PC (Make sure you configured to Sync with iTunes)
2) Go to My Computer > right click and open Apple iPad > right click and open Internal Storage > right click and open DCIM. (This will show the photos from those to Albums only)
3) Right click on a empty space on the desktop
4) Click on New > Folder
5) Go back to the DCIM files and right click on each file(one at a time) then copy and paste each file over the New Folder.
6) Go back to the DCIM files and open each folder and right click and delete each photo.
You will notice that all the same photos are being deleted on the Photo app simultaneously.
7) Then drag the New Folder into you Pictures on the PC.
8)Then open iTunes on your PC and click on the Photo tab and click Sync on the bottom right to import those photos back to your iPad.
I hope my scenario can apply to you.

for example, when i am attempting to make a 'all-day' appointment on october 2nd 2011, it automatically shifts it to october 1st.
but if i am doing a timed appointment for only a few hours, it will allow me to put it on that day.
i am trying to put in travel dates so any help on how to fix this, would be greatly appreciated.

Quit iCal, and try removing the com.apple.iCal.plist file from your Macintosh HD/Users/yourusername/Library/Preferences Folder. Since that Library is now hidden, you have to use the Finder>Go Menu>Depress the "Option" key>Library. Drag the .plist file to your desktop, and log out/in or restart and check iCal for functionality.
Also go to System Preferences...>Language & Text>Formats>Region: and set/re-set the appropriate "Region."

One of the things I have loved about Macs since switching in 2003 is:
They tell you what went wrong when something does.
The Acrobat plugin is corrupted.
Solution:
Download a trial of AppDelete. Install it and open it.
Drag the Reader X app to the window.
Delete everything it finds associated with Reader X and empty the trash. Re-download Reader X and re-install it.
It will install new support and preference files and plugins. and things should go more smoothly.

Doulbe tab the home key to see the task bar. Touch and hold any of those icons until they jiggle, then delete them by touching the minus sign. Then reboot the pad by holding the sleep and home buttons until the apple logo appears. Ignore the red slider.
You either have another app open that is using the camera, or you just have too much stuff in memory. The reset process should clear it up.
