Why does iCloud require a DIFFERENT .me address?

If this is a stupid question, please forgive me. I have a .me address from years ago when I signed up for MobileMe. Before MobileMe disappeared, I signed into www.me.com/move and migrated my .me address (and my .mac address) to iCloud; got a confirmation message that I could use my .me and .mac addresses with iCloud.
My Apple ID is my personal domain address ([email protected]) and has been for years. No problems.
Now, after installing Mountain Lion, if I try to sync my Notes and Mail with iCloud, I am asked to enter a .me address for iCloud. When I try to enter my old .me address (that was OK to use with iCloud), I am told that that address is already taken. I know that; it is mine.
If I come up with yet another .me address for iCloud, what is going to happen to my iCloud account, which is already associated with my current Apple ID?
Sorry, but this is really confusing.
Any help greatly appreciated.

Apple's answer, via the Genius Bar at the 5th Ave Store in NYC, is as follows:
"You have to use a differnent @me.com e-mail address because Notes syncing is designed to remain compatible with Lion (10.7).  Even though it is inconvenient, you just have to make up a new address solely for the purpose of syncing Notes.  You don't have to ever use the address/log in/check mail; just type it into your iPhone once and Notes will sync."
Once you enter this address and turn on Notes syncing in the iCloud System Preference panel on your computer, and in the iCloud Settings panel on your iPhone, Notes will sync.  You will then have two Notes accounts on your phone, "iCloud" and "On My iPhone."  For new notes to sync, make sure you switch the default account to "iCloud" in the Notes settings on your phone.
Unfortunately, this will only sync new notes going forward.  I have not been able to get my existing notes to sync, other than by copying each one and pasting into a new note (and deleting the old one).  If you were syncing notes under 10.7, you might be able to change the account the notes are associated with (i.e. move them from "on my phone" to "iCloud') using the Mail application on your computer, but if you have not synced notes before I think you're out of luck.

why does aol not auto enter email addresses when I compose an email?

what a ridiculous decision to change from "starts with" to "contains".
I have a further problem - having selected the address I want from the umpteen options pulled from my address book, I then press enter to add another line for another address.....and the first address I selected changes to a completely different address!
And also addresses from the address book which previously appeared only in black now randomly appear in red.
    help please!

Why does iCloud email run so slowly in Firefox? Typing is frequently stopped and "non-responsive" shows up and everything freezes for a while. Doesn't happen with Outlook or Google?

    Hi,
You can consider the [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/reset-firefox-easily-fix-most-problems Reset Firefox] feature via '''Help''' ('''Alt''' + '''H''') > '''Troubleshooting Information'''. If it is okay, you can then install the Mozilla Archive Format add-on.
If you have security software installed you can try to delete all existing entries for Firefox and its sub processes in the different configuration modules and try to fully trust/allow Firefox afresh. Even after network access is completed, Firefox would still need unlimited access to its disk cache/memory as well as its files. Please see [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Firewalls this].

Automatically cc myself is not checked.  I did find out that if you have multiple email address that all of them need to be associated with "My Contact" tab.  Thanks

  • Why does iCloud not sync mail rules?

This seems like a no brainer. When I view my email on my Iphone, I see all my Spam, which would already be dispatched to the Junk box on my desktop, had I looked there first. Why does iCloud not sync my Mail rules, and is there a solution for this?

It is not Mac to Mac.
Why not look up iCloud support, it was never offered as anything outside iOS 5 supported devices.
Maybe if you would stop reading into things what isn't there.

  • Why does Apple require ISBNs when Amazon and B&N don't?

I'm sure this has been discussed, perhaps someone could point me to an answer.
Why does Apple require an ISBN when Amazon and B&N's digital stores don't. In many ways this eliminated many individuals or small presses from selling their books on iTunes. Does Apple specifically not want those not alligned with pre-digital publishing to be able to sell books on iTunes? Perhaps there is something I'm missing here.

Fabini, by the fact that I've uploaded and sold dozens of eBooks on Amazon and B&N without ISBN numbers. They both don't require them for eBooks.
As per Amazon: “An ISBN (International Standard Book Number) is not required to publish content with Kindle Direct Publishing. Once your content is published on the KDP web site, Amazon.com will assign it a 10-digit ASIN (Amazon Standard Identification Number), which is unique to the eBook, and is an identification number for the Kindle Book on Amazon.com. If you already have an ISBN for your eBook, you’ll be able to enter it during the publishing process. Do *not* use an ISBN for the print book edition.”
As per barnesandnoble.com's PubIt!: “You do NOT need an ISBN to sell your eBook through PubIt!. If you don’t have an ISBN, just tell us that you don’t have one by answering No when prompted. In that case, Barnes & Noble will assign an internal 13-digit identifier to your title for you when you submit the title to go on sale.”
Apple is the only of the "big three" eBook distributers that requires an ISBN and that is a bad call and reduces that "democratic" power of eBook publishing. I hope they change the policy soon. Anyone know who the best person to email about this issue would be?

  • Why does Mail require "Re:" subject prefix to group conversations properly?

When the Apple Mail program (using Mavericks 10.9.1) is configured to "View:Organize by Conversation", it is necessary for the email subject line to be prefixed with "Re:" in order for the email from different senders to be grouped into the same conversation, even if the emails contain proper "In-Reply-To" header fields.  Why does the program require this subject line prefix, versus just using the In-Reply-To field values to group conversations?  Many automated systems that generate emails (e.g., web-based helpdesk systems) will send email with the proper In-Reply-To field values to associate emails for the same topic/case, but they do not use the "Re:" subject line prefix.  This seems to be a defect with the design of the Mail program to require this prefix for the conversation grouping to work properly.
Does anyone know if there is legitimate rationale for this behavior?  Does anyone know if there is a work-around for this problem (short of changing these other systems to prefix the subject line)?
    Thanks, Steve

    Hi
You asked about a recommendation for an app to paste a group of addresses into the To, Cc or Bcc fields of an email?
Our "MailShot Pro" app is the only one we know of on the App Store that creates special "group contacts" in your address book which contain all your groups email addresses, but can be used just like regular contacts from most of your favourite apps. We now have nearly 50000 people using it, and growing steadily every day.
Here is a link if you would like to know more “MailShot Pro” (itunes link).
A free version is also available if you'd like to try it out with a small nmber of contacts.
If you need any customer support just contact us at the website, we're always happy to help.
