  • Why does imac G5 eject leopard install disk

Why does imac G5 eject leopard install disk?  I'm trying to help my father get online to read the newspaper using an iMac G5 1.8 GHz 17".  I've installed a new hard drive and reinstalled software and rus software updates until I've reached 10.4.11 and the lovely "your software is up to date" message.  When I put in the Leopard 10.5.1 Install DVD, it auto ejects within 15 seconds and never gets mounted and never shows on desktop.  When I place the same DVD in my Intel MacBook Pro running 10.6.8, the disk mounts and the install window opens as usual.  Any suggestions on what i'm missing here? thanks

  • Why does iphone has common volume control for ringer as well as Alarm?

Why does iphone has common volume control for ringer as well as Alarm? which is quite unusual. For Exp, In case i lower down my ringer for some reason instead of silent and forget to increase before i sleep, my morning alarm also remains at the same ringer level volume at which i can miss the alarm. Is it due to some specific reason or i have missed something to change in settings. Other phone like Samsung etc, they have separate volume control for ringer and to an extent, Nokia rings for Alarm even if the battery is completely discharged.

I have booked an appointment at my nearest Genius Bar which is 40 minutes away next week, so do I need a reciept or is the warranty checked from the serial number?
    No receipt needed.
and is it covered under Apple's 12 month warranty?
It very well may be covered, depending on what Apple finds.

It can be a number of things, RAM and connection speed are the two on the top of my list.

why does ipad has the same ios like the Iphone4s ,it should be different than iphone

Having one iOS that works across several platforms is one of the advantages of the iOS system. This allows developers to produce one software product instead of several and reduces development time and costs. This is a fundamental difference between iOS and Android operating systems where operating system varieties impede development.

  • Why does watching just youtube videos causes my fanspeed to be very audible! im using a retina MBP 2012 june

why does watching just youtube videos causes my fanspeed to be very audible! im using a retina MBP 2012 june

Video use a lot of CPU/GPU resources and thus creates heat.  The fans speed up in order to dissipate the heat.  If you open Activity Monitor, it will show you the % of CPU that the video utilizes.  At high speeds, the fans are very much audible.
    ciao.

  • Why does iPhoto now import videos?

I'm shooting a video and production stills with my DSLR. Why does iPhoto '11 import the videos? They just take up disk space. I can't do anything with them in iPhoto. Can I tell iPhoto to import the stills only?

iPhoto has always had the ability to import certain formats of video.  Also, iPhoto video can be seen in iMovie for editting.  - http://support.apple.com/kb/PH2196.

  • Why does my 16:9 video show up in 4:3?

I can't figure this one out. When set my 16:9 video as a new track/asset to the button of my choosing, I throw open simulator and when I go to my video... It has been squished into 4:3! How'd that happen, and what is the easiest way to fix it, I really don't want to export all these files again. Thanks.

I appriciate the suggestion, however, that's not my problem.
The menus are all in 16:9, but it's just my video that seems to have been squooshed.
Even in DVDSP's preview mode, that video asset looks like, and reads as 720x480, when the real file is 960x720.
Does anyone have any idea why DVDSP is thinking this is a square video file?

  • Why does iMac (Mid 2012) not support Jumbo Frames?

Why is it not possible to change MTU size to more than 1500? Buying such a high quality product, I would expect that it supports jumbo frames!
My NAS supports jumbo frames, the Air Port Extreme does but a brand new iMac doesn't???
Is there any patch or somethin to fix this?
    Thanks!!!

    Hi Marcus,
I find conflicting info on this...
The Ethernet port supports the configuration of Ethernet frames larger than 1,500 MTU (Maximum Transmission Unit).
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4619
Can anyone confirm if the new 2011 imacs already support jumbo frames? I heard it now uses a new broadcom ethernet chip that now supports jumbo frames on the 21 inch model. They removed jumbo frames support in the previous i5 and i7 models...
Hmm, I remember that the iFix tear down revealed that the 2011 iMacs had a Broadcom BCM57765B0KMLG Eithernet chip. (just go to the page and if you are using safari/firefox press command + F and type "Broadcom" to jump to that particular)
    http://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/iMac-...eardown/5485/2
so I did a little googling and found out that:
    http://www.broadcom.com/products/Eth...lient/BCM57765
    Integrated 10/100/1000BASE-T transceiver with:
    - 10/100/1000BASE-T triple-speed MAC
    - Compliant with IEEE standards
    - Compliant with IEEE 802.3az draft standard for Energy Efficient Ethernet™ (EEE)
    - State-of-the-art physical layer interface that exceeds IEEE requirements
    - Jumbo frame support with up to 9.6 KB frame size
    - EthernetAV protocols with IEEE 802.1AS, 1588-2008, IEEE P802.1Qat and IEEE P802.1Qav support
So it should support Jumbo Frames.

I set it using System Preferences -> Ethernet -> Advanced -> Ethernet -> Configure Manually.
I've confirmed the setting by checking the output of ifconfig. It shows an mtu value of 9000.

  • Uhhh... My iMac has no Video Card?

So I bought a 20' inch 2.4 Ghz iMac with 2 GB of memory because I knew I'd be playing games... But I downloaded Aspyr's Game Agent and all games came up as unplayable because I had no video card........... Are you kidding me........?

It's probably a problem with that specific game and the iMac video drivers. Hopefully Aspyr has some information about it on their support page or in their user forums. You might check and see if they have an update patch posted for the game.

  • Why Does Logoc Pro (With Video Loaded) Crash When Changing Screensets?

    Hi,
I have an annoying problem which has only started happening since I've been working in Logic Pro with a movie loaded.
The movie (.mov) is 2min 59 sec long and 3.2MB.
There are about 12 audio tracks with my voice commentary on them and I'm working on a music track to go behind video & voice.
My Mac OSX !0.5.7 has 7GB of RAM.
The crashes happen regularly but only when I change screen sets.
Thankfully the program saves my file every time but it is still annoying because I have to load up again.
I've also turned off automatic backups and a virus barrier but it does not help.
    Has anybody had this problem?
    any assistance is much appreciated.
    thanks,
    GB
PS: Since this movie project is my first, how do I save the movie with my voice commentary and music when I'm finished? Is it just a normal bounce?

Yes this is a known problem - with Quicktime. Downgrading to QT 7.4.5 works for some.

  • FCP X 10.0.2 why does crossfade blank following video

    MacBook Pro
    FCP X 10.0.2
Video imported from Canon 5D Mark II using Magic Lantern (AJ) clean HDMI output via Matrox MX02 Mini Thunderbolt to SSD drive as ProRes HQ 1080i.
FCP X running on built in 750Gb hard drive
I've edited my video and trying to add crossfades but the video after the crossfade turns black and doesn't display.
Also 1080p25 on Canon 5d Mark II, 1080i25 on Matrix MX02 Mini and audio recorded on Zoom H4N recorder. Audio has to be sped up using Propellerhead Reason from 120bpm to around 118.5 bpm in order for the audio to sync correctly.
    Help!
Lastly is it possible to transfer the project in its entirety from MacBook Pro to Mac Pro?
    Thanks
    Keith

OK - sorted the crossfade issue. Turns out that video clips with audio bound in won't crossfade correctly. Break apart the clip item then crossfade works on the video. Apparently according to Apple Support 10.0.2 should have cured this problem but it hasn't so he's going to escalate it.
The  Canon 5D Mark II mini HDMI outputs 1080i. 720p is preferable so I'm going to test 1080i to 720p in the Matrox MX02 Mini to see how well that works - I'll also try the PsF (Progressive Frame for Interlaced compatibility...)
Copied event and project folder from Macbook pro to Macpro and that worked but clearly they'll get out of sync so I'll look at the XML output to see if that will help...
No resolution on the Zoom H4N audio running too quickly except that on the clips recorded with fresh batteries the audio stays in sync. Note to self - use fresh batteries for audio recording in video shooting!

  • Why does dragging an imported video into a project reduce the file size by half?

I used a Canon Vixia HV40 to import 1 hour of HD video filmed using 24F and cina mode.  My import and project properties were as follows:widescreen (16x9, 24F, cinema, import size = full, original size.
The specifications for the imported file are as follows/:
    Size: 22.12GB
    Dimensons: 1920 x 1080
Codec: Apple Intermediate Codec, Linear PCM
    Color Profile: HD(1-1-1)
    Audio Channels: 2
    Total Bit Rate: 47,113
When I drag the imported file into a new project, the resulting .mov file has the following specifications:
Size: 9.67GB (approx half the size)
    Dimensions 1920 x 1080 (same)
    Codec: H.264, AAC (different)
    Color Profile: HS(1-1-1) (same)
    Audio Channels: 2 (same)
Total Bit Rate: 20,607 (approx half)
What causes the file size reduction and bit rate reduction?  Is it a result of the different codec?  Is there any corresponding loss of video quality that results from the conversion?
Thanks for your answers in advance.

Thanks a lot for your quick and detailed response!
Maximum image quality and file size are not the same thing, for a start.
Yes, but with JPG's they tend to be correlated, aren't they?
When you view a photo in iPhoto it's a composite of the original and the decisions recorded, and applied live as you view.
Oh, I always thought iPhoto makes a copy of the orginial and modfies that ...
If you want to use that photo for something then you have to export it. This make a new file with your photo in it. When you export you have a lot of options - including ones that will make the filesize bigger than the original.  This User Tip
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-4921
has details of the options in the Export dialogue.
Ah, that is cool. That solves my problem.
If you use drag and drop from the iPhoto Window that's a form of exporting too -but you have no options there. You get the iPhoto Preview. That's a 'handy-good-enough-for-most-things version of the shot. If you want  more options use the export command.
That's what I tripped over. (I used the email feature from within iPhoto for a quick sharing ...)
    Thanks, G.

  • IMac Why does iMac show mid 2011 when purchased mid 2012?

Just checked about my mac and surprised to find its stating mid 2011 when it was purchased from UK Apple store July 2012.
Could anyone explain why this would be?  Thank you

I had a similar situation with Bluewater, Kent.   Apple do not clear old stock on the basis of OS upgrades and I, too, had to accept Tiger upgraded to Leopard.  But like yours, mine has been an excellent machine.   I suppose it doesn't matter too much until you get a major system change and the machine is unable to accept it.

  • Why does it separate audio & video?

I have a few divX that I'd like to burn to DVD, however, when I import them into iDVD it separates the audio & video (Project info - assets), thus making the actual video seemingly twice as long, so I can only burn have as much to a DVD ... why is that?
I understand iDVD doesn't natively support divX, but have the proper codecs to do it ... so just curious if it's still a result of iDVD not quite fully understanding divX? but even still, once I convert to .MOV it still separates ...
so confused ... and frustrated ....

yeah, I'm guessing that it's the compression that will change things ... whenever I put a divX file in, it said it was taking up twice as much space as the file originally was, so I guessed that meant audio & video ... but that could just be coincidental ...
In all my stupidness I was judging based on file size, not run time. I'm trying to throw a few rugby games onto DVD, each being 1hr20min. Roughly 1gb/game ... on a 4.7Gb DVD i figured I could comfortably get 3 games .... I just realized my folly just before checking back here for answers ... doh!!
    dumb dumb dumb.
oh well, live and learn ... again.
As an aside ... why is it that on my package of DVDs it makes reference to different modes (Standard, Long Play, Extend Play, etc.) and how many hours can fit on the disc ... those are usually VHS modes, aren't they? so I'm assuming (I should stop that) that I can't use this info for my divX file, cause if I could fit 6 hrs onto a disc (which the package says I could if I used Extended Play), then I should be able to fit the rugby games on ... but alas I can't, so I'm assuming this doesn't apply to me ...
sigh ... sometimes I wish the guys at my local electronics dealer would be more knowledgeable ... but that's not likely to happen anytime soon, especially if they're on commission
