Why does Indesign CS4 stall on my Mac Pro with Snow Leopard as soon as I load a file?

I recently bought a Mac Pro (operating system: Snow Leopard) and installed the latest versions of Photoshop and InDesign (both CS4). I also installed those programmes on my older MacBook Pro with the former (Leopard) operating system.
Photoshop works just fine on the Mac Pro, with the machine's new Snow Leopard operating system. However, there is a problem with InDesign. Everytime I open a file, even opening a new file, the programme is stalling and I have to force-stop it.
Does anyone out there in the Adobe Community have a similar problem and could suggest a solution?
Looking thankfully forward to interesting replies!  Emil

I first installed the next to last version; the problem appeared there
(programme stalling as soon as a document is opened). I then updated to
6.04, hoping for a solution, but the problem remained unresolved. I still
cannot open a document without stalling InDesign. When installing InDesign
in my MacBook Pro (which runs Leopard), the problem does not arise. I am
able to open documents there and work as usual. The operative system was
installed by the supplier of the machine. Since I was not able to access it
(Password issues), I reinstalled it by booting the MacPro from the disquette
that was delivered together with the machine.
HELP! I am getting desparate!

  • Want new Mac Pro With Snow Leopard

I am after a new Mac Pro with Snow Leopard.
I understand that some of the newer Mac Pros can have Snow Leopard installed.  Some tell me that in the recent past Apple made a change that made installation of Snow Leopard difficult or impossible on a Mac Pro.
Does anyone know with a reasonable degree of certainty how to tell if a given Mac Pro can have Snow Leopard installed?
I called Apple about a refurbished Mac Pro, they don't know what operating system it will come with!  And they don't know if it will include OS installation disks.

For what it is worth, I recently went through this drama.
    Well, it's worth a lot!
it is theoretically possible for Apple to modify the firmware to prevent Snow from booting, but my experience is that this has not happened yet.
How long ago did you purchase your Mac Pro? (I miss the old days, when users would modify their own firmware.)
See if you can buy from a seller who will let you test this out. There are some nice retailers out there, especially when you are dropping $1000s on a new Mac Pro.
I've been looking for a while now, Mac Pro sellers that have Snow Leopard know how valuable there machines are. There are no bargains if you want snow leopard.
We couldn't install Snow directly on the Mac Pro, so I installed on another computer (an older Mac Pro), and updated to 10.6.8 and swapped the drive across. This worked without issues.
    I currently own a 2008 Mac Pro (2,1) with 10.6.8
See if you can buy from a seller who will let you test this out.
Why not Apple?  They have a 15 Day return policy.   When I called Apple recently the person I spoke to suggested this.

  • Mac Pro with Snow Leopard instead of Lion?

Planning to replace an aging G5 with new Mac Pro. The machine's primary usage is editing in FCP (not FCP X). Most projects are long form and I'm in the middle of one right now that will be in post for the remainder of the year. Can I get the new Mac Pro with Snow Leopard (running 10.6.8 currently) instead of Lion to avoid potential issues moving the project over?

Not if you buy it new. All of them come with Lion. However, the current Mac Pro's originally shipped with Snow Leopard, and while it's not entirely clear, it may be possible to install Snow Leopard on a new Mac Pro. There are a number of threads here discussing that but the Cliff's Notes version is that the 2010 Mac Pro requires at least 10.6.4, and the last retail version is 10.6.3 so the retail installer won't work. If you can't get Apple to send you the Snow Leopard installer that once shipped with the Mac Pro, posters have said you can't use 10.6.4+ installers specific to another recent Macs to do the job. However, there is a discussion here http://hints.macworld.com/article.php?story=20120123175902871 which explains how that can be made to work. I haven't tried it (I got my Mac Pro while it was still shipping with SL), I don't know if it would actually work, and I don't know if it's even legal, but there it is.

  • Installing Leopard on a Mac Pro with Snow Leopard

I have several applications that are not yet compatible with Snow Leopard, I've just bought a Mac Pro 8 core and It comes with snow leopard, is there a problem if I install Leopard 10.5.8 on the Mac Pro and migrate all my information from my Mac Book Pro ?

There is a problem, unfortunately. A Mac can't run an older version of OS X than the version that shipped with it. See here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2186

  • How do I do a clean install on my mac pro with snow leopard?

I got a Ssd drive, I did a carbon copy from my old drive, it was running Great, but now it's freezing how do I reinstall snow leopard , ive tryed booting from disc but won't work don't know what too do plZ help.

Corrupt directory and damage are best handled by booting from another hard drive with latest OS, latest Disk Utility, and ultimately, with SuperDuper.
In some cases it is best to clone and repair, then restore back to original, in this case your SSD.
Just as important, to find out why.
Is it the make/model and firmware of the SSD?
Is it known issue with that model?
Are you using Crucial, OWC, what brand?

  • I have a Mac Pro with Snow Leopard and FCP7 installed I would like to run FCP7 and FCPX on the same computer, is this OK

I have a Mac Pro (early 2009) with Mac OS X version 10.6.8, I use this for video editing with FCP7. I would also like to install FCPX, my operating system is Snow Leopard. Is this OK or do I need to up-grade my operating system. I want to be able to use FCP7 and FCPX on the same Computer. Your advise will be appreciated.

You will see from the hardware spec that the latest version of FCP X requires Mavericks.
The Mavericks spec shows you can upgrade to Mavericks on your Mac Pro.
Ensure you have a bucket full of RAM installed.

why does my boot camp on my mac pro ask for a windows 7 disk?  Can I just install my vista home premium in and proceed?

Lion and Mountain Lion can only install 7 under BootCamp.
You can load Vista under a VM (virtual machine) such as Parallels or VMWare Fusion or VirtualBox (Oracle ownload).

  • Wiki Server support on Mac Mini with Snow Leopard?

    Hi
I am considering buying Mac Mini with Snow Leopard server. Before that, I want to know about wiki server 2 capabilities. Wiki Server 2 page says following:
"Mac OS X Server makes it easy for groups to collaborate and communicate through their own wiki-powered intranet website complete with group calendar, blog, and mailing list"
I am planning to setup wiki server for a small group of users over Internet (and not intranet) to exchange information and so it should look something like wiki.mydomain.com with login capabilities for user(and again, this is over internet).
My Question: Can wiki server 2 work with web server to support above (or similar) setup?
If not, what can be done to support above setup?
    Response appreciated.
    Thanks in Advance.

Jason, what is your source of information that this is a supported configuration?
I work at Apple. Thats why I have the !http://discussions.apple.com/images/status/apple_employee-16x16.gif! logo below my username.
The new Mac mini comes in three different configurations, two of those have the standard version of Snow Leopard.
There is an article that addresses issues similar to this here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2186, but switching from Snow Leopard Server to Snow Leopard is not like trying to install Tiger when the Mac mini came with Snow Leopard.
You can also verify this by contacting an Apple specialist at: 1-800-MY-APPLE or call U.S. iPod and Mac technical support at: 1-800-APL-CARE (1-800-275-2273).

  • Text messages in Safari are garbled on Mac Pro after Snow Leopard install

When reading or composing my Yahoo mail text messages in Safari on my Mac Pro after Snow Leopard, the wording is very garbled. Looks like o's, s's, c's, some caps, with lots of spaces intermixed. Messages look ok on Firefox, on same machine. New messages and reading sent messages look ok on my MacBook and MB Air. When cutting and pasting into something else (like this window), the text looks fine. I can compose and send messages that look garbled, but the right words and letters go out. HTML messages look ok. Any clues for solution?

I have this happening in bunch of different HTML pages. Here's a screenshot of the same page in Safari (Version 4.0.3 (6531.9)) and Mac OS X 1.6.1 side by side with Camino:
    https://dl.getdropbox.com/u/362958/miscwebimages/Screen%20shot%202009-09-22%20at%2018.35.47.png
Camino renders the page correctly. Safari is really unusable with this problem. Tried switching to and from 64-bit mode in Safari, didn't help either.

Given what you describe you will have to upgrade Snow Leopard by downloading and installing Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1. Then go to the App Store and sign in with your Apple ID. Purchase and download Mountain Lion to upgrade your OS. Then purchase the latest upgrades for the iLife applications which includes iPhoto.
Or you can go on eBay, Google, or Amazon and purchase another copy of the DVD based iLife.

  • FreeHand MX on the new Mac Pro under Snow Leopard?

Just wondering if anybody is managing to successfully run Adobe (Macromedia) FreeHand on the new Mac Pro under Snow Leopard?
We often need to access a lot of archived FreeHand files and are wondering whether we should keep an old G4 tucked away just for this job when we next update our Macs.
    Thanks,
    Jona

    Hi jona;
A quick Google search produced a number of sites such as this one that basically say that freehand doesn't do so well on Snow Leopard. You suggestion for maintaining an old G4 sounds like a good one to me.

  • Will firefox 5 run on a mac pro running snow leopard

I like FF but am concerned whether it will run on my mac pro running snow leopard, since the download information says it is a windows program.

Snow Leopard being Mac OSX 10.6
You need to download the version for Mac, not the .exe which is for Windows.
www.mozilla.com or if you prefer a certain language no given then look at http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html and look down the middle which is Mac OSX.

  • Transfer speeds between two Mac's with Snow Leopard is slow

Upgraded my MacBook Pro and Mac Mini with Snow Leopard and now transferring files between the two systems is slower. It definitely was a lot faster before, usually getting up to about 1MB/s transfer. Now I'm lucky to get above 300/400KB/s, on the rare occasion up to 600KB/s.
No other transfers going on nor other traffic, just really slow transfers now. Network is wifi being provided by an apple airport express.
Any ideas on what's going on? What I can do to troubleshoot?

Er, nevermind. I solved it, checked out the Airport Express settings and changed the channel and then realized it was set for b/g, and bumped it up to n/b/g.
