Why does installer program refuse to upgrade OS?

I currently have 10.5 on my Powerbook G4. When i ran the installation for upgrading to 10.5.1, i was unable to select the "G4 HD" for the destination. I got this error message: "You cannot install Mac OS X Update on this volume. This volume does not meet the requirements for this update." I have 38 GB of available space. I downloaded this installation from Apple, along with other updates to go up to 10.5.6. I have to install them one at a time because the 10.5.6 combo would not successfully download. Is there something i am missing? Thanks!

I bought my used powerbook on the web a couple years ago and it came pre-installed with this operating system. I'm not sure what you mean by a pre-released copy,
pre-release means it's a copy given to developers and beta-testers prior to official leopard release in October of 2007. it only gives you a license to use it before the actual leopard release. and it's impossible to install any software update on it. this is an intentional software limitation designed to prevent unauthorized use just of the kind that you were doing.

why does pages suddenly refuse to save a document back to our server after editing?
and can i specify a default save-as location?

The default save location is the one used to open the document.
The default save_to location is the last used one.
Both are stored in memory and written in the application's preferences file when we close it.
It's quite easy to change the defaults in the preferences file but we must do that before opening the app and if we use an other location once the app is open, we will lost the defined default location.
From my point of view, the best scheme is to use an Applescript to save.

  • Keychain - why does every program want to access it?

After I set-up MobileMe on my new Mac Mini, every program is now asking for access to the keychain? Whether I approve or deny does not seem to make a difference. Why is this happening now since installing MobileMe and why do the programs need to access it each time? Is there any way to disable this or grant approval so I don't get bombarded by window pop-ups each time a program is started?

Can you give some examples of every program please. Applications such as email, IM etc use it to store passwords and usernames so that's normal. Are there abnormal programs requesting access?

why does safari crash after lion upgrade

Right or control click the Safari app in the Applications folder then click Get Info.
In the Get Info panel, look for the Safari version number. If it's prior to Safari 6, updating to Safari 6 may help.
Click here >  Safari Quits Every Time Opened: Apple Support Communities
Then click the link posted by:  gregoryfromcork
That will automatically download this file >  Safari6Lion.pkg.download
    Now quit Safari.
Go to your Downloads folder and double click that file and follow the instructions for installing.
Then restart your Mac, try Safari.
If you already have Safari 6 installed, post a crash report.
If Safari has just crashed, press the Report button on the CrashReporter dialog box to view the crash  information.
Copy/paste the entire contents of the Crash Reporter window into your reply including the, "binary images" sesction.
f the crash report dialog does not appear or the crash is hard to reproduce, crash logs can be retrieved from the ~/Library/Logs/CrashReporter> folder.

  • When deleting bookmarks from Firefox, why does the program respond differently on similar installs to different computers all running OS X?

    On the subject of bookmarks...
The following procedure works for deleting bookmarks on my MacBook Pro, my iMac, and my Mac mini...
If the bookmark is itself a tab on the toolbar, right click on it and select delete by highlighting delete in the drop down menu that appears.
The following procedure works for deleting bookmarks on my MacBook Pro, but not my iMac or Mac mini...
If the toolbar tab is actually a folder containing bookmarks and possibly more folders, left click on the toolbar tab to open a drop down menu of other bookmarks/folders, highlight the one you want to delete, then right click on it and select delete by highlighting delete in the drop down menu.
On the iMac and Mac mini, right clicking on an item in the drop down menu of bookmarks/folders has no effect. It does not produce the additional drop down menu at all.
I can find no place to adjust this as a setting in preferences or anywhere else. Can you tell me why I am seeing a different response from the Firefox program on my MacBook Pro than I get from my other Macs?
All Macs are configured similarly and running OS X 10.6.5. All have Firefox 3.6.13 installed.
I realize there are many other ways to delete bookmarks from Firefox. My question is not about how to delete bookmarks, but rather why am I seeing the differing behavior from Firefox in other installs. It may well prove to be an issue within OS X rather than Firefox.

In case you are using "Clear history when Firefox closes" then try to disable this feature.
*Tools > Options > Privacy > Firefox will: "Use custom settings for history": [ ] "Clear history when Firefox closes"
Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problem.
    See "Creating a profile":
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/Standard_diagnostic_-_Firefox#Profile_issues
If the new profile works then you can transfer files from a previously used profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over the problem

  • Why does the logic pro 9 upgrade not work on OS X 10.8.4 ?

Just decided to upgrade to logic 9 from my 8 (an upgrade from 6!) but I also have Protools on my computer (dont hate). Tools 11 needs 10.8.4 but the logic 9 update refuses to work with 10.8.4 ...BTW pro 8 is still working well on my system, but 9 has some additional cool featurs etc
Additionally an upate to Logic X loses all my 32bit plugins so...I am  staying with 8/9 for a while ..any help to get 9 functional??

    It is the installer that's quitting, or Logic Pro when you try to launch it? If the latter, download all the available updates, either through Software Update or the standalone downloaders;
    http://support.apple.com/downloads/#logic%20pro%209
and apply them before attempting to launch Logic. That might work better.

  • Why does installation cd not work for new hard drive for 2009 MacBook pro?

my hard drive died in my 2009 MacBook pro so I bought a 1tb ssd drive and had the store physically install the drive only.   I arrived home and stuck in the original installation disc and pressed and held the c key after the chime. Nothing happened. after a minute or so the screen turned black and rebooted up again with the chime.  It would continue to reboot whether I pressed the c key or not. when i pressed the d key it would say:
"Apple hardware test does not support this machine"
why why isn't this working like it is supposed to?
    thsnks

    Ryan,
Have you tried using the Startup Manager (holding down the option key) whilst booting? If everything works as it should, you should be given the option to choose the DVD to boot. Holding down the 'D' key should load the Apple Hardware Test.
    Good luck,

  • Why does a program/application require admin password to run?

    Hello,
I have a third party program/application that I am running under standard user account with no admin right. The application was installed in a folder to which the standard account was granted full right. When I double clicked on the program to run it
under the standard user account, I was asked for admin credentials before I can run it.
Does anyone know what has caused this? The application does write in the folder where it was installed and was given full access right for the folder and all sub folder below it. My OS is windows server 2008.
    Thanks!

  • Why does a program quit unexpectedly?

I haven't had any problems with programs closing unexpectedly on my week 32 MacBook yet, but just now my Mozilla Firefox quit unexpectedly. What makes it do that?
Also, I hate asking this, but is it a sign of worse things to come? I just had a speaker problem today (suddenly going mute) and these two problems I also had on my week 22 MacBook that was a total lemon and resulted in me getting this one as a replacement.
I'm nervous. I'm in school and I can't even imagine having to go through the MacBook repair process again.
    Advice?

There are a multitude of reasons why an application might quit unexpectedly. It could be the app, the OS, hardware, other software, anything. It's wholly impossible (without seeing a crash log) to answer this.
The way I see a potential repair while you're in school is that you have two choices:
    1) (Try to) Use the machine that doesn't work well, if at all, and complain the entire time, run the risk of losing data or, in fact, the machine entirely - leaving you up that one creek that rhymes with "hit".
    or
    2) If/when a repair is needed, just suck it up and send it in and go to a computer lab for a week or so, use a roommate or friend's machine.
Either way, you're going to be without it for a spell.

  • Why does it cost $700 to upgrade to an iPhone?

Okay, let me tell you this story from the beginning.....
In December of 2013, I wanted an iPhone 5c. My current basic phone was acting up, so my dad wanted to get a replacement. Instead, Verizon (without telling my dad) marked this as an upgrade... My birthday was about a month ago, and we went to the store to get an iPhone...but we couldn't upgrade, without paying $700 until December of 2015. The store said I could get a used iphone from someone that was verizon and use that, but that leaves me with a 4s that's crappy. What do I do? Could I buy an iphone from the Apple Store and bring it in??? HELP ME.

Your dad signed a contract in order to complete the upgrade. It's never a good idea to sign things without reading them.
You can inquire about the possibility of upgrading your phone using Verizon's Early Edge program. Or, using an upgrade from another line on the account. Or, pay full retail for the new phone. Or, buy one of the used iPhone 5Cs that will be flooding the market in the next couple of weeks.

  • Why does the program panel fail to match magnification of source panel?

The magnification and resolution settings for both program & source panels are identical. However, the magnification on the program panel is much higher than the source. The rendered video, of course, is produced with the higher magnification thereby blocking out  a substantial % of the desired frame. What can I do to match the magnification of the source panel to the program panel? Thanks for your input in this regard!

It sounds like your Sequence setting
    does not match your footage.
