Why does iOS7 kill my battery so much faster?

After updating to iOS7 my battery dies halfway through the day now! It turns off when it's still at 20%...hate this!!!

  • Why does my iPhone 5 battery drain so fast!?!?

Got an iphone last week.. for every minute that my screen was on, my battery would drain 1%. I was charging it so many times a day.. you can do the math. Finally brought it to Apple after day 3 and they gave me a brand new phone. My new one is doing the same thing.. I find it unlikely that I'd get TWO defective phones in a row. My friends with the iphone5 say they can go about a day and a half with heavy usage and still have a small battery percentage left. Is there something I'm doing wrong? I only have about 4 apps and I close them out completely when I'm not using them. I barely use the browser... I text a lot but isnt that the purpose of having a phone? Help please! Very displeased with Apple right now.

You could set it to Fetch every 15 minutes and see how your battery holds up. I have it set to check manually and when I open email it downloads the mail then.
It's not a great solution if you need Push email but it saves the battery.
Apple needs to fix it, it seems anything that uses networking is broken in iOS 6. iOS 6.0 and 6.0.1 function like beta versions of software.
Looking at the discussion forums Apple can and should do better than this. If serious users cant connect to wifi properly, cant get acceptable download speeds, see their cellular data usage skyrocket and cant use push emails then the iPhone 5 becomes an expensive toy.

  • Why does AAM Updates Notifier run so much?

Why does AAM Updates Notifier run so much? It seems to really be working my hard drive.

AAM updater launches automatically as you start the computer, so you can try preventing it from auto launch as per the operating system.
Though it is not recommended much. you can check it is Re: How to deinstall AAM Update Notifier
Moving it to download & install for resolution.

  • Why does IOS7 drain iPhone 4S battery

When I recently updated my iPhone to IOS7, it drains the battery a lot faster than it normally would. Does anybody know how to fix this?

Do you also own an iphone and an iPad?  I have struggled with all solutions to fast depleting battery on iphone 4s (and on the  ipad) since installing ios7. I sync via icloud to my ipad and noticed the problem stopped if I powered off the ipad for a day! ios7 must have set up some cycle that drained both devices. Now I have set the ipad to manual (not push) on icloud and diary sync and battery life is back to normal for a whole week  it can last 48 hours with light use- no longer have to keep shutting down all apps and turning off bluetooth and wifi to get through a day! Any one else found the same solution?

  • Why does OS7 use more battery on iphone?

Upgraded to OS7 from 6.1.4 which was much better on battery life. Why does OS 7 use so much battery and how can I reinstall OS6?
Its using approx 10% of battery life every hour, when not using the phone and all apps switched off, push notifications off etc - if I was actually using the phone and making calls battery will be dead in no time!

why?i rip all my cd's in wma,y does wma files use more battery life?
Due to higher compression rate of WMA. The player will need higher processing power to process it thus the higher battery consumption but it should not affect it very much around 0-5% more only.

  • Why does the messaging app take so much space (5.6??) Also when I try to delete messages, it still shows 5.6. help me!

    Hi,
I have barely any space left on my phone. ios7 messaging app takes so much space. How can I stop this?

Your phone needs more storage, buying storage on iCloud.com doesn't change that.
Delete some of the stuff off of your phone, it's full.

  • Why does iOS7 and Mavericks have different icons for apps?

I love apple simple desige and intuitive approach.
BUT why does not Contacts, Calender etc have the same icons anymore between your operating systems?
This is not simple and it is not intuiative.....
    Alexander

The removal of all the skeuomorphic elements from iOS and OS X is only partially complete. Doubtless we'll see this change as updates come out, though whether Apple will go with the exact same icons in both iOS and OS X for any given app remains to be seen. You can express your opinion to Apple via their feedback page, if you wish:

  • Why does my itouch 3g battery run out so quickly when i use apps?

I recently bought a ipod touch 3g off somebody else. I have found that when I go on to any apps that i have downloaded, the battery reduces. One time I went to play a game for about 20 minutes and went back to the home screen to find my battery had decreased by 20%. Has anyone had the same problem?

If you have iOS 5 installd it ends to drain the battery a little faster.  See the following for extending battery life:
iPod: How to extend battery life
Also, with use the battery capacity goes down and % wise it drains faster.

  • I have updated ipad3 to ios7 and now battery drains very fast even when not in use

Why is my battery draining so fast even when I'm not using it . last night I put it down with 45% and woke up to dead battery. I upgraded to ios7 last week. I have ipad 3.thanks

    Hi!
I have an iPad 3,3 GSM. I didn't update it since iOS 5.1.1. iPad works almost a week for me. And updated it to 7.1 at last Friday.
After update my battery drains notable fast. ~10-12% overnight(~8h) in standby mode. I've tried to turn off parallax, all location services and background apps. But nothing's changed.
So I''ve found that in usage section I ve almost the same values of usage and standby time. And I realized that one thing that drains my battery is "Find my ipad" service!!! I turned off it and my ipad works as with iOS 5.1.1:
2% overnight max!! And now it's drained only 14% after 4h20m of usage with parallax turned on! (yes i've only surfed web and read a book but nevertheless)
So it's your choice what to prefer - be sure that your ipad either protected from stealing or long battery life!

  • My ipad battery drains much faster after iOS 7 upgrade

my ipad battery drains 4x faster after ios7 upgrade.....how do I fix this?

Dig into your settings. iOS7 defaults a lot of stuff on that you may not need. Such as tons of notifications, background app updates, background app refresh. Turn extra stuff off and see if that helps.

  • Why does the iPad 3 have so much lag on ios7?

My iPad 3 has so much lag on ios7 i cant believe apple would pass this i have restored twice and set up as new ipad and still does not fix the lag. It takes at least 10 seconds to change a wallpaper even rotating the ipad lags also safari is really bad wish i didn't update now. Ios7 is smooth as butter on my iPhone 5 how could apple get it so wrong on the iPad! There is alot of reports of ios7 being laggy on the iPad 4 and mini aswell. I cant seem to get rid of the lag no matter what i try does anyone have any suggestions? Apple?

    Hello,
It is luckily that an iOS 7 update will be coming out this week. As it's 7.0, there is a lot of bug so just wait to you update for a 2 week. Try restarting your iPad by holding the power button and the home button down at the same time till you see a apple, that will help.
Please reply if you have any more questions.
    Kind Regards,

  • Why does ios7 ip retain old ip when joining new wifi - thus knocking servers off the air

We had an issue this morning that took some time to find.
One of the VMWare hosts was knocked off the network due to a duplicate IP address.
We got the offending MAC and finally traced it to a iphone 4s with ios7. - Not an easy task with no MAC address in the phone to locate.
That user had been connected to their home network using that same IP and when then arrived at work and it connected to the Wifi, it obtained the server address before getting a DHCP assigned address.
We tried replicating it using static addresses over wifi which led to some interesting results, but could not kill another host using this method, looks like I'll need to wait till tomorrow to verify, but have every confidence that it will.
Any clues how to replicated inhouse?

Among the alternatives not mentioned... Using a TiVo DVR, rather than the X1; a Roamio Plus or Pro would solve both the concern over the quality of the DVR, as well as providing the MoCA bridge capability the poster so desperately wanted the X1 DVR to provide. (Although the TiVo's support only MoCA 1.1.) Just get a third-party MoCA adapter for the distant location. Why the hang-up on having a device provided by Comcast? This seems especially ironic given the opinions expressed regarding payments over time to Comcast. If a MoCA 2.0 bridge was the requirement, they don't exist outside providers. So couldn't the poster have simply requested a replacement XB3 from the local office and configured it down to only providing MoCA bridging -- and perhaps as a wireless access point? Comcast would bill him the monthly rate for the extra device, but such is the state of MoCA 2.0. Much of the OP sounds like frustration over devices providing capabilities the poster *thinks* they should have.

  • Why does hprof=heap=dump have so much overhead?

I udnerstand why the HPROF option heap=sites incurs a massive performance overhead; it has to intercept every allocation and record the current call stack.
However, I don't understand why the HPROF option heap=dump incurs so much of a performance overhead. Presumably it could do nothing until invoked, and only then trace from the system roots the entire heap.
Can anyone speak to why it doesn't work that way?
    - Gordon @ IA

Traditionally agents like hprof had to be loaded into the virtual machine at startup, and this was the only way to capture these object allocations. The new hprof in the JDK 5.0 release (Tiger) was written using the newer VM interface JVM TI and this new hprof was mostly meant to reproduce the functionality of the old hprof from JDK 1.4.2 that used JVMPI. (Just FYI: run 'java -Xrunhprof:help' for help on hprof).
The JDK 5.0 hprof will at startup, instrument java.lang.Object.<init>() and all classes and methods that use the newarray bytecodes. This instrumentation doesn't take long and is just an initial startup cost, it's the run time and what happens then that is the performance bottleneck. At run time, as any object is allocated, the instrumented methods trigger an extra call into a Java tracker class which in turn makes a JNI call into the hprof agent and native code. At that point, hprof needs to track all the objects that are live (the JVM TI free event tells it when an object is freed), which takes a table inside the hprof agent and memory space. So if the machine you are using is low on RAM, using hprof will cause drastic slowdowns, you might try heap=sites which uses less memory but just tracks allocations based on site of allocation not individual objects.
The more likely run time performance issue is that at each allocation, hprof wants to get the stack trace, this can be expensive, depends on how many objects are allocated. You could try using depth=0 and see if the stack trace samples are a serious issue for your situation. If you don't need stack traces, then you would be better off looking at the pmap command that gets you an hprof binary dump on the fly, no overhead, then you can use jhat (or HAT) to browse the heap. This may require use of the JDK 6 (Mustang) release for this experiment, see http://mustang.dev.java.net for the free downloads of JDK 6 (Mustang).
There is an RFE for hprof to allow the tracking of allocations to be turned on/off in the Java tracker methods that were injected, at the Java source level. But this would require adding some Java APIs to control sun/tools/hprof/Tracker which is in rt.jar. This is very possible and more with the JVM TI interfaces.
If you haven't tried the NetBeans Profiler (http://www.netbeans.org) you may want to look at it. It does take an incremental approach to instrumentation and tries to focus in on the areas of interest and allows you to limit the overhead of the profiler. It works with the latest JDK 5 (Tiger) update release, see http://java.sun.com/j2se.
Oh yes, also look at some of the JVM TI demos that come with the JDK 5 download. Look in the demo/jvmti directory and try the small agents HeapTracker and HeapViewer, they have much lower overhead and the binaries and all the source is right there for you to just use or modify and customize for yourself.
    Hope this helps.

  • Why does my Macbook Pro battery not even last me 2 hours even just browsing the internet or typing a document?

So my Macbook Pro 2011 that isn't even a year and a half old only lasts me about 2 hours of battery.  My brightness is set to only 4 notches most of the time and I mostly have google chrome and itunes or spotify open when I am using it.  I have to charge it about 2 times a day.  My old original unibody macbook lasted a longer time than this.  Today, my fans were running faster than normal and my battery drained 20 percent in less than a half hour.

it was using 53.5% of you CPU. Which if used over a long period of time, a lot of battery will be used and it will drain quickly, try figuring out what this is and use it less often, or try deleting it if it is not important.
