Why does iPhoto add every picture I import to Photostream?
Whenever I import a picture to iPhoto, it automatically imports it to photostream. Naturally I dont need every picture that I add to iPhoto to go on photostream. Is there a setting I'm missing or just poor design?
Something you are missing:
iPhoto -> Preferences -> Photostream and uncheck the box at 'Automatic Upload'

Why does iPhoto quit every time after I say do not delete the photos from the camera after downloading?
I have not have this issue before. I have iphoto 9.1.1. (531) and Lion OS. I connect the camera to iphoto and started to download the photos. Everything got downloaded up till when the iphoto asks if i want to delete or keep the photos. I say keep and click when at this moment iphoto quits unexpectedly. I start iphoto with option and command and click on rebuild the library and examine and repair permissions. I also deleted cache and looked in the preferences folder but could not find anything starting com.apple.iphoto.
Then it works again however until I start again. I also tried to download individual photos where it works for some and for some it quits. here is the error message:

When creating a new album, why does iphoto 11 separate pictures into untitled albums? I want all designated photos in the album i created..
I'm guessing you're missing the album in the left hand pane by just a bit and thus creating new albums for each of the photo you're dragging. Make sure the album is highlighted as in this screenshot (iPhoto 9.4.2) before releasing:
A sure file way to get an album with the photos is to select the photos again and use the File ➙ New Album menu option
and that will produce a new album with the photos that were selected.

Why does IPhoto always crop pictures when printing?
Whenever I print from iphoto the picture alway gets cropped automatically. Why does it do this and how can I stop it? This results in heads and feet often being cropped out of the printed photo which is frustrating. When I double click on a photo to view it full screen I can see the full photo however the actual print, regardless of print size chosen, ends up being cropped. I use an HP C7280 printer.
Photos from a digital camera are in a size ratio of 4:3 which is not one of the standard print sizes. Therefore the photo must be cropped in order to fit the select print size. You should crop the photo yourself in iPhoto before printing so you get exactly what you want with no surprises.
What iPhoto does is take the smaller dimension and scale it to fit that dimension in the print. The larger dimension will obviously be larger than the print so it will be cropped to fit, usually on both ends.
Bottom line: do the cropping yourself to get what you want.

The longer question though, which I placed on another thread in another forum, was why has the system stopped working as it used to? I have an iMac running OS10.4 and iLife 08, and a PowerBookPro running OS10.6 and iLife 09 and on both of them I have connected up the camera in the past and edited using iMovie without any problem. What's changed that now means `I have to faff around using another program when I have always been able, before, to capture straight from the camera?
In specific response to your reply, my video files, when I do a straight transfer from the camera onto the desk top, show up as .mod and .moi files, not MPEG2. But they won't then open in iMovie. -
Why does iPhoto crash every time i share on Facebook?
iPhoto hangs up after sucessfully posting a single photo to Facebook.
I've opened the program using option command and have now done each of the many choices.
I've repaired permissions there and with disk utility.
I've seen it hang up other times as well, after editing a picture, so it may not simply be a sharing issue.

Why does iPhoto Crash every time i click on preferences?
I need your help!!! I am running iPhoto 9.2.2 and everytime I click on preferences, the application crashes. It has been happeniong for a while so I deleted it from my MacBrook Pro and reinstalled it to the tune of $15 from the app store. However, same problem. I have run the Repair Disk Permissions and it did not solve the problem. I am running Mac OS X 10.7.3 and all software is up to date and I am not having any issues with any other application. The message I am getting is below.

iPhoto only imports from the Camera roll.
There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 10 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS. So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Include things like:
- What version of iPhoto.
- What version of the Operating System.
- Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For example, if you have a problem with exporting, then explain by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
- History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted? - Are there error messages?
- What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
- Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?
Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have. -
Why does iPhoto grab ALL my pictures?
Since I started downloading pictures from my iPhone and Nikon Cameras iPhoto grabs every picture I try to look at in my files and "imports" it. Those from the cameras are already in the iPhoto Library and I really don't want all my old photos in there (I have tons).
They used to just open on what ever page I was on and when I downloaded them it was with Preview. Can I disenfranchise (giggle) iPhoto? I know very little about photography/graphics and it's in and outs but I do like to look at my pictures from time to time without having to make a federal case of the process. Any help will be appreciated.

I open iphoto and I get the message
"the Photo library needs to be upgraded to work with this version of iPhoto"
I click upgrade and after a few seconds the photos show fine, the application works correctly.
then I quit the app. and reopen and i get the same message and the same results.
this was happening before I did a complete erase of the Macbook Pro and install of Mt Lion
upgraded from lion.
only thing thats the same is the computer and the library I restored.

Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

Why does iPhoto not recognize the .jpg pics from a Kodak C875 now? I can stick my memory card in the iMac and import them that way, but iPhoto will not import the pics from the camera.
There have been many issues reported with Kodak cameras - serach the forums for them
Actually the best practise is to use a card reader to import your photos, verify that they are imported ocrrectly and wait at least one backup cycle and then use the camera's format command to reformat the card and erase it - this assures no lost photos and always having the card properly formatted

Why does IPhoto create dupicates of photos and graphic that is on My Mac when I import the photos from Photo stream to the library? I started out with about 4,000 photos when I transferred everything from my PC. I use a new IPad and IPhone to take the photos. The Mac is running Mountain Lion 10.8.2 3.1 Intel prosessor. I am using IPhoto 11.

Barrythere is an app called daisydisk on mac app store which will help you see exactly where the memory is focused and consumed try using that app and see which folders are using more memory

Why does iPhoto now import videos?
I'm shooting a video and production stills with my DSLR. Why does iPhoto '11 import the videos? They just take up disk space. I can't do anything with them in iPhoto. Can I tell iPhoto to import the stills only?
