Why does it have to be so difficult to get help from Apple?

I have been having problems with both Safari and my Hotmail (live) email account on my iPad 2, and I have spent the past 3 hours just trying to get to this point where I could even ask a bloody question. I am one very frustrated consumer right now. Fortunately, I have had few problems with my iPad over the past year, but now that I have... WOW! I had always heard Apple support was good. Not for this paying customer!
Yesterday, I had to change my hotmail password because my account had apparently been hacked. I have had nothing but error messages from the iPad since. I have reset, re-entered the password, deleted and re-created the account... And I still have trouble receiving and viewing the contents of some messages. The error message says the username or password are not valid, or something like that. I am not locked out of the iPad as some people have been.
My other issue is with Safari. When I try to navigate to msn.com (US), I always get rerouted to msn Hong Kong, and everything is in Mandarin! Nothing i do will get me to the US site, let alone change the default.
A year of bliss with my iPad, but now 24 hours+ of ****.
PMM

Yes, I recognize this is a user forum... But I did end up here through the Apple site and after rummaging through other posts, manuals, the Express Lane, etc. I admit I did not call Apple yet, but I was hopeful I could find someone with a similar problem that could offer assistance without coming to that.
I admit I am frustrated out of ignorance as much as anything else, but the process of establishing an Apple ID and password with my iPad was bad enough. That alone took several tries. Everything seemed to work, but then in the end it would kick me out and force me to start all over again.
The whole problem solving process may be fine for a regular member of the Apple techie faithful, but as a first time, casual consumer... It was not what I would expect from Apple.
To answer the microsoft question: I have perused their site as well for help, but I have really had no trouble with hotmail or msn when accessing these sites through my windows based laptop/Internet explorer. I have only had trouble with my iPad.
I assume my HK msn problem is due to the fact that I have actually used my iPad in HK on occasion. I'm guessing there is a setting somewhere in the iPad or the msn site that is remembering that fact and defaulting to HK. I just can't figure out how to change it because most of the text in the site is in Mandarin.
Again, whether it is in the iPad or msn isn't the point. As this is a user group, I thought there may be another IPad user that has experienced this and could help.

  • I am really upset because I have a subscription to Readers Digest on my iPad and can't access my issues.  It asks me for a password and ID I don't have and I can't figure out how to get help from apple or readers digest.

Need help and Apple or Reader's Digest are no help

There is a customer service 800 number on here that may be of some help for you (I hope)
EDIT. I had a link that was working and now it will not work. OK - this is really ticking me off now. Here is a C&P.
    1.
Where can I download the Reader's Digest magazine app?
You can download the app from the Apple App Store : click to RD page in iTunes
    2.
How much does the app cost?
It is free to download the app and there’s a gratis previous issue you can sample. Once you’ve downloaded the app, you can buy individual issues ofReader’s Digest for $3.99 each - the same price you’d pay for the print magazine at a newsstand.
    3.
Can I buy a subscription to Reader’s Digest magazine on the iPad?
Yes. You can get a month-to-month subscription for $1.99 per issue, or you can get a yearly subscription for $14.99.
    4.
I already subscribe to the print version of Reader’s Digest. Can I get the digital issues as part of my subscription?
Yes, for a limited time, U.S. print subscribers can access iPad editions for free. That includes all the additional videos, slide shows, additional articles and cartoons - a terrific value! Just tap the red button at the top right of the screen and follow the instructions. You’ll need the mailing label from a recent issue to enter your subscriber information. Once registered, your email address and ZIP code will serve as your log in username and password.
    5.
Where on the mailing label can I find my subscription account number?
As indicated in the image below, the account number is on the second line from the top of your mailing label. It has 10 digits.
    6.
I entered my account number and ZIP code, but nothing is happening. What should I do?
Call our toll-free Customer Service number: 877-342-4775.
    7.
Is access to the iPad app included for international subscribers?
We’re sorry, but access is available only to subscribers in the United States at this time.
    8.
I’m not seeing a subscription option in my in-app Store  - what gives?
You need to update your app in order to subscribe.
    9.
What content is included in the app?
Everything that is in the print magazine is also in the app. Plus, bonus photos, articles, videos, cartoons and animation, graphics, and various interactive features.
    10.
What devices can the app be used with?
It is available only for the iPad at this time.
    11.
Will new issues be delivered to the app automatically?
Not automatically, but you will receive a notification when each new issue becomes available. If you have subscribed to the app you can download it immediately. If not, you can choose to purchase and download the individual issue.
    12.
Will the issues I purchase expire?
No. Once you purchase an issue, you will have access to it for as long as you keep the app.
    13.
About how much memory does one issue take up?
An average issue will take up between 300 and 500 megabytes. With a good WiFi connection, it should take only a few minutes to download.
    14.
If I delete an issue, can I download it again for free later?
Yes. Simply touch the home icon in the upper left corner of your app to go to see all available issues. Tap the “archive” button next to an issue to remove it from your iPad and free up disc space. You can re-download it for free at any time.
    15.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Your subscription will renew automatically each month (for monthly subscribers) or each year (for annual subscribers) unless you take action to cancel it. To do so, open the "Settings" app on your iPad and select “Store.” Tap on your Apple ID and select “View Apple ID.” Once your account information appears, scroll down to "Manage App Subscriptions." Here you can turn your subscriptions off and on.
    16.
Can I share the digital issue with friends?
No. There are currently no share features available.

  • Restoring--Argghh! Why does everything have to be so difficult?

I have been thrilled with my new iPhone for almost a month now, however it has crashed completely twice over the last couple of days, (Just the Apple Logo even after a Home/Power reset) It crashed once when I connected to computer and instructed it to update all applications (via app store in iphone.) and another time when it was installing a new application from phone(Movies free version), it just sort of tried to auto reboot and got stuck in the process. It took ages to restore and backup.
The very next day the same thing happened I was out on the road and I had my laptop with me. so a bit of a pain but not too much of a problem I thought, WRONG Why Oh Why can I not restore it without an Internet connection and insisting it needs to connect for the latest software, OK I appreciate Apple might want to update your phone with the latest versions, but surely there should be an option to bypass this. I was left with no phone for the rest of the day. Surely this is an important issue, supposing you landline happens to go down at the same time your iphone, you are then completely stuffed, Why can you not keep the last downloaded update on the computer, or allow a direct backup. Aargghh!!again
If this keeps happening it will seriously affect my opinion of the phone which up until now has been favourable.
Also what could cause my iphone to crash like that, it is too many or erroneous sofware issues. I wonder if it was a memory problem as I believe some applications seem to keep scores/last position etc, does that mean they are all still running in the background? and if so is this the problem?
    Cheers Terry

Same problem here. Installed an app using the iPhone's App Store and the phone crashes. Then I just get the Apple logo. Then I restore and it tells me all my backups are corrupt. Awful.
Quite honestly, I've had enough of this. Not had a phone with me all day today or when it happened last week.
Long time Apple fan but if this isn't remedied before I have another crash, I'm going back to Nokia. Just can't afford to spend days without a phone. I think Apple need to acknowledge the issue and comment on it rather than deleting posts.
This is crippling my use of the iPhone.

  • Why does it have to be so difficult!

OK so I think this started after updating to 10.6.8 or something with Mac OS X after. A lot of applications are just crashing on opening.
    Crashing applications are:
    Software Update
    iTunes
    iPhoto
    Safari
(I think more but these are things I use often)
I had serious thoughts about installing Windows 7 on this. But didn't. Reinstalled Mac OS X. Still the same.
Completed a fresh install of Mac OS X, after erasing the disk. Used Migration Assistant to bring everything across. What was annoying was that Software Update crashed. So installing anew, and then migrating profiles, and then expecting to update, didn't work.
Finally after the above I accidentally realized that applications worked under a new profile but not under mine. This took about two days as I don't have time to sit at the computer, plus with Time Machine restores I fudged things. I log into my 'old' user profile and the problems are still there.
I suppose that the profile has corrupted.
Prior to all this I had repaired the disk from the Mac Install DVD and other bits of house keeping (repair disk permissions).
I wish I didn't have to manually migrate elements of my profile to a new one.
Has anyone had anything like this?
PS - I can post examples of the crash reports. It's worrying that Software Update crashes too.

Safari just seems to hang now. Here is a report for that.

  • Why does it have to be this difficult? JES installation and a reboot

    Hi,
I downloaded JES for Windows, and I went through the default installation and configuration process. Everything works fine. I can use the Access Manager screens to create users and I got one of the example programs working that allows me to test remote authentication via LDAP.
    Horray!
However, when I shut my machine down and restart, I'm not able to remotely login as before. I'm starting the Webserver and Application Server using the start-menu buttons that were provided, but the sample remote login program won't work. I can't even get access to the web screens for the Access Manager, although I know that the app server is running on ports 8080 and 4849. I also managed to create a script to start the dsadm.exe process, but still no avail.
    What else am I missing?
    Thanks,
    Bruce

Did you start cacaoadm ?? This is known to come into play for Remote administration/actions.
The sequence I'd follow would be:
    1. Cacaoadm restart
    2. DS restart
    3. AppServer-domain1 restart.
Also if you are having any issues with the Console access after recycle you can look into the debug logs (path for debug logs is specified in the AMConfig.properties file) for traces on errors. If you dont see any relevant information there, you may want to turn on debugging in the AMConfig.properties, recycle Access Manager and try.
Attribute that enables (flood gates) debugging:
    # error is default, whereas message is for debugging
    #com.iplanet.services.debug.level=error
    com.iplanet.services.debug.level=message

  • PE 12 Video Quality - does it have to be so difficult to get good results

I downloaded PE11 trial before PE12 was released, which has since expired, but I have been monitoring this forum to see how PE12 is doing.  I am also trying other editors.
A common problem theme I see here for PE is the video quality.  With auto settings, so many people are posting that the quality is terrible.  There are suggestions on how to improve quality, but they seem to be very intrusive and time consuming, using other apps to 'prepare' media before bringing into PE.  This add lots of time to ones workflow, especially when trying to simply import some assets, and burn a DVD or create a file.
It just seems to me that it shouldn't have to be that hard.  Many other editors can look into properties of the imported assets and render with fine quality.  Why can't PE be that easy...or am I expecting too much?

Thank you for taking the time to expand on your original comments.
No two situations are alike. And, as I always write, problems with the same symptoms can (often do) have different causes.
I think that you need to zero in on your specific computer environment and your installation of Premiere Elements in order to make some headway into finding the reason for what you are seeing working in your Premiere Elements in your specific computer environment. Besides settings and the like, there are expectations that may not be consistent with the format resolution and the size of the viewer screen.
You did not answer my question about your target format. But, from what you wrote, I am assuming that you are addressing yourself to DVD-VIDEO on DVD disc and not AVCHD on DVD or Blu-ray disc format on Blu-ray disc. I get good results with any of the three with Premiere Elements in my Windows computer environment.
But, after weigning all factors, you feel that you want to be heard by Adobe, then I would suggest that you contact Adobe directly or through the Adobe Feature Request/Bug Report Form
    https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform
I do not work for Adobe and am not affiliated with it in any way; consequently, my comments are non promotional and are based on many years of working hands on with the versions on my computer at home and helping others with this type of problem.
Wishing you success in whatever your decision is on video editing software. If Windows Live Movie Maker works for you, then go with that to as far as its feature set can take you.

  • Why when we ask questions we never get help from Apple support.....is this just for other people's comments and answers?  Cause the two questions I have are still not resolved so how do we get help from Apple?

I have posted two problems I am having on my iPad and I posted them sometime back.  One how copy paste aren't working and how my microphone will not transcribe when I use it for email. Yet even though these were both posted months ago I still have no resolution.  So i guess this is just for us to complain about our problems and sometime some one posts an idea, but they don't work.  So Apple never offers us or helps us with these problems?  Just trying to see if this is worth using as I thought Apple helped us!

    For the copy/paste issue ...
    Reset the device:
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
If that doesn't help, tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings
No data is lost due to a reset.
Which transcription app are you using with your microphone?

  • Why does Firefox have to make it so difficult to get answers--I am not going to be able to check the website to see what anyone might reply to my question on crashing?

I have no way of checking to see if anyone answers this. Why does Firefox have to make it so difficult?
What does this means: DLL C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\MOZCRT19.dll is not a valid Windows image. Please check this against your installation diskette.
Suddenly all my tabs closed. Then Windows told me I had a gazillion infections. Then a tiny strip appeared saying it was Firefox and these little blocks started to fill up the little strip as if it were downloading something--there was no way to cancel this so I cut the power. Now when I try to use the Firefox icon, I get the message above.
Am I supposed to remove the old Firefox stuff and start from scratch? I am stuck using Internet Explorer.
I went to the Firefox website and tried to download it again, but McAffee jumped in and said there is something wrong with Firefox and I should register with them that I am downloading Firefox (I do not have McAffee). Then I got a security warning saying Firefox is not safe.
I am completely at a loss as to what to do next, since I don't understand any of this mumbojumbo.

Here's the story on one of your infections, namely JS:Redirector-EH[Trj]: http://www.microsoft.com/security/portal/Threat/Encyclopedia/Entry.aspx?Name=Trojan%3aJS%2fRedirector.H
The main problem with malware is that it uses the installation to proliferate by contacting hostile servers to download more of the same rogue code.
Firefox doesn't have the option to "Run" a file. You can only "Save File" or "Cancel". If you downloaded it with IE8, then yes, you can run it, but that's not what I wanted you to do.
What you should do now is to disable System Restore. You can open System Properties by hitting the Windows logo key and Pause/Break key together. Then click the "System Restore" tab. Then checkmark the box which says "''Turn off System Restore on all drives''". Reboot to clear its contents. System Restore unfortunately makes a backup of all executables which includes viruses so that when you reboot without deleting them first, System Restore reinstates them again.
After you complete that step, run Avast and Malwarebytes again to make sure the system is clean.
Then go to the Windows Update site (link on your start menu) and install the missing patches which enabled your machine to become infected in the first place.
Once the system is clean, repeat step one to download Firefox again, but please do not run the file. If you don't see the option to "Save File", cancel the download, but it should be there. You can use this direct download link to download FF4.0.1 [http://www.mozilla.com/products/download.html?product=firefox-4.0.1&os=win&lang=en-US Download Firefox 4.0.1]
Run the file after you download it to the desktop.

Why does itunes have me logging in multiple times to buy a song? I can access everything else fine, but now my account is disabled for some reason although my password was entered correctly... help

I've seen a couple of other threads over the last 10 minutes posting similar problems, so it appears to have affected other people as well - the poster on the first thread has now posted again saying that it's now working for him, so you could give it another try.

I just purchased Lion OS.  Why can't I download it from the website?  Why does it have to be shipped to me?

Are you doing a Software Update or downloading directly from Apple?
If Software Update, instead download the combo 10.6.8 update from here. Use Disk Utility (on your hard drive in application/utilities)  to repair permissions, then apply the combo update, and when done, repair permissions again. You'll be at 10.6.8 at that point.

  • Why does it have to be tethered???

Hi, So I'm just about ready to buy the ipad. But I am having a big problem understanding WHY this thing cannot be used in my household, because my 2 apples run Tiger. If its a matter of an occasional update, I could take it to work to do that. I phoned the apple store, the rep said It can't work or sync without Leopard within my home wireless network. I also have within my wireless network 2.5 terabit of hard-drive and the rep was unsure if the ipad could see that either...
Both of my computers are pre Intel processor, so I read that leopard & snow leopard are out of the question on my computers.
If this is suppose the be the next big thing, Why does it have to be tethered to ANY computer. This IS sold as a wireless device, NOT an extension to another computer. Am I getting bad info or what.
    Please advise.

    Hi,
All is not lost, I think. It's true that you'll need either Leopard or a Windows machine with the latest iTunes in order to get the iPad going. But you're right, you can just do that at work. The iPad will work perfectly after that without ever synching it again. You can do everything from the iTunes store from the iPad itself.
However, if you want to synch your music not bought at iTunes, as well as iPhone apps and contacts then you're going to have to find a compatible computer to do it on. It needs the latest iTunes which doesn't run on Tiger. But once you've synched you don't really need to do it again unless you want to add a lot of music from another source than iTunes. Of course, synching also backs up the iPad, don't forget.
As far as the gigundo drive, if the iPad doesn't recognize it, all you have to do is copy what you want synched to a smaller drive (or even a DVD) and use that instead.
Hope that helps. The iPad is most definitely an independent device but it does need a compatible computer if you want to synch stuff to it from elsewhere.
