Why does it say 'Mshome' in the Network finder?
Hi
I'm running a MacBook and a 12" PowerBook. The MacBook is working fine with regard to networking, but the PowerBook comes up with folders 'Mshome' and 'My Network'. What are they for and how do I get rid of them?
Also, I can easily see the Powerbook over a wireless network on the MacBook (as in, it come up under the 'servers' folder in the Network folder). However, you can't see the MacBook from the PowerBook. Any clues?

First.
One or both of the macs are configured for a Windows "workgroup". Windows XP workgroups are typically MSHOME.
Is there anything in that folder when you looked?
Configuring for this is done in the Utilities>DirectoryAccess, SMB/CIFS>Configure...look in the Workgroup box.
There's likely nothing in "Network"
Either way? don't delete 'em...ignore 'em.
I don't know the answer to your other question...Got File sharing turned on? firewall set to allow that traffic?

Be sure it is really a 3rd gen. Some people with 2nd gens were told they were 3rd gens. Identifying iPod models or Look up specs by Serial Number. If it is a 2nd gen, then you can't upgrade.
IF IT REALLY IS A THIRD GEN iPod Touch, then you first need to upgrade to iTunes 10.5 in order to download iOS 5 because older versions of iTunes don't support and can't sync with iOS 5. -
Why does apple say to leave the side door shut while computer is on?
I dont understand why you have to have the side door closed when the computer is on. What does the case do for the computer nothing because the plastic is covering the proccessors so its locked shut. Ive had mine off for a couple of days in it runs the same and i went to the store and they had the case off to while the computer was running. Does anyone have theres off while using it?
FWIW...I've left mine off for 20+ months and had over 14,000 TROUBLE-FREE HOURS on it. My drive bay ran 6F cooler with it off.

Try a re-set. If that doesn't fix it, restore. If that doesn't fixit, Set it up as a new device, preferably by putting into DFU mode.
If none of that fixes it, the WiFi radio has physically failed. -
Why does it say that the updated version of Firefox (which I am trying to download) is not compatible with my operating system when I have Mac OS X 10.5.8? I had an older version of Firefox and it said I needed to update it but that was the message that appeared.
Sorry, it's because Firefox 4+ are only compiled for the Intel processors.
There is a separate project for PPC Macs called Ten Four Fox. You might give it a spin when you're tired of 3.6.

I had the same problem today. I have a smart playlist made up of: Kind>is>Protected AAC audio file. This smart play list allows me to keep track of music I've downloaded from the iTMS after inadvertently deleting the Purchased Music default playlist. Yes, I know a new “Purchased Music” playlist is created when you buy music again, but it doesn’t contain any of the songs you’ve already downloaded.
When I went to burn this playlist (several hundred songs) to multiple audio CD format - I go the same result you got.
"After asking to burn a play list it asks to insert CD, checks the media, checks the play list and then stops with the apple icon reappearing and NO error message."
Apple tech support couldn’t help me - I found that out the hard way - after 1.5 hours on the phone. No, I haven't exceeded the 7 time burn limit either.
I tried selecting all the songs in the smart playlist and creating a new [regular] playlist and tried to burn from that, but got the same result.
Finally, I tried typing "Protected AAC audio file" from my main library in the search window, selected all the songs that resulted, created a new [regular] playlist from that selection and the burn was successful.
It was a real pain and took almost 3 hours to figure out, but it worked. I'm going to try the "Patchburn" download talked about earlier, but don't know if that's the real problem.
Yes, I have upgraded my SuperDrive, but iTunes recognizes it - Preferences>Advanced>Burning - if your drive shows up here then that's not the problem. Besides, I had the same problem when trying to burn to the original SuperDrive too.
I think the problem may be deeper inside iTunes itself. Duh! Maybe something with Apple tightening their DRM scheme which may make us unwitting beta testers to see if they tightened the noose too tight or not. Just a guess.
Any thoughts, anyone?

I noticed yesterday my Iphone 4s does not say verizon at the top anymore. I tried calling *228 and did both options mutiple times and it hasnt changed. Also when i go to settings>general>about the network tab says unavailable. how can i fix this
Can you make and receive calls and texts? If you can, I wouldn't worry about it. If you can't, you may need to call Verizon. However, try this first. The 4S has a Vodafone SIM card in it for foreign travel. Try taking the SIM out and doing the *228 again. Once it activates properly, you should be able to put the SIM back for safe keeping. It's not used in the U.S.

I have the CANON REBEL T5 1200D, and when i connect it to my mac which is 10.10 the new OS X YOSEMITE it says that it "Cannot be used with this version of the operating system" why does it say that if my camera is listed under the supported digital cameras for OS X YOSEMITE?
Put simply, the minimum system requirements for iTunes have changed. You need a Mac running at least OS X 10.6.8.
It's best you look online to see if your model of Mac can be upgraded to at least 10.6.8 "Snow Leopard". It should still be possible to order a copy of Snow Leopard if so. -
Why does it say in the Firefox Safe Mode article that all of the changes are temporary while in Safe Mode, then later it says "Note: The following changes cannot be undone."?
When you open Firefox in Safe Mode, it automatically disables your custom settings, themes, and add-ons. THOSE changes are temporary.
However, if you click any of the boxes underneath the line, "You can make some or all of these changes permanent", and then choose "Make Changes and Restart", everything you checked will be forever changed, even when you start Firefox again in 'normal' mode. [See attached image for a preview of the Safe Mode options].
To be clear:
1. If you check any of the boxes but do NOT select "Make changes and restart", those things will not be changed at all in safe mode.
2. If you select any of the boxes and you DO select "Make changes and restart", you will permanently lose any of the items you checked (bookmarks (except for backups), user preferences, etc.).
If you performed the action in step 2 above, you will only be able to restore those things if you have a previously created back-up of your Mozilla Profiles folder (not the same as the Firefox program folder).

Why does it say "The configuration data for this product is corrupt. Contact your support personnel." when trying to install itunes64installer on my b4 bit windows 7 acer pc? Any help would be much appreciated...
(1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):

(2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
(3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
(4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
(5) Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time? -

In the home page why does Firefox say I haven't upgraded when I have. So I upgrade again and still it says I haven't next time I log on. Today I upgraded to 9, it said congratulations on upgrading, I log off then log back on only to be told yet again I need to upgrade. What is going on?
