Why does it show a user more than once in Users On...

At times I see that the same forum id is shown logged in twice on the Users Online
Is this just me going mad?

Hi DS,
That happens when the site's related cookies (viewable under options in your browser) have not cleared and the timeout session has not been registered. It doesn't affect your minutes online so you can either delete your cookies or just let it be. It has no negative effect so no need to worry.

Why does LR Develop Sharpening halo more than Photoshop's "Sharpen?"

Why does LR's develop sharpen have so much more haloing? Seems like it should be at least as good as Photoshop's basic sharpen algorithms, right? Sure, LR doesn't have USM and maybe there's an argument (a marketing argument, that is) for keeping some high-end tools in PS, but the basic sharpening that is so important for RAW images should rock in LR. Am I missing something here?
For now I'm doing the PS round trip that many of us are doing just to apply the basic sharpening that RAW images need. A round trip would be OK for the occasional need of something more sophisticated in PS, but a round trip for every image is ridiculous.

In it he outlines the concepts of a "sharpening workflow" where "capture sharpening" is done only to restore the loss of sharpness caused by digital capture (or scanning), "creative sharpening" to do image specific sharpening (or smoothing) and then "output sharpening" only at the final stage _AFTER_ you got the image in it's final size and resolution.
You can also delve deeper into the mysteries of sharpening in his book

The bottom line is that there really is no such thing as a "single sharpening" routine that will be correct for each image or output type. Thus the "sharpening workflow".
And the other big problem is the fact you can _NOT_ use a computer display to accurately sharpen images for output...a display is simply way too low a resolution device. You need to actually test the sharpening on the actual output and media you are using...
Sorry...wish this stuff was simpler/easier, but it's not :~(

Why the "Basic" crawled properties appear more than once for each property name?

When i map a managed property and want to select for example "Basic:9" - i see 2 lines of "Basic:9".
why is that so? are there more than one "Basic:9" property?

The properties have different types, Basic:9 which has mapped to Path is Text type, the other one is Yes/No type. You could refer to:

TS3276 the connection dr. shows my acounts more than once

I cannot send emails from any of my accounts(I have 3) everything was fine yesterday, this morning i went to send an email and I cannot. the connection Dr. shows my accounts 2 times - Once with a green dot but also shows them(repeated beneath the green dots) with red dots? The Network connection button is greyed out? Any suggestions.

I started doing as you suggested, I was hoping I could delete the offending accounts through the Connection Dr.(wishfull thinking) Only because the Offending accounts are also the green dot accounts. For some reason they are repeated: so I have a hotmail acct that is both a green and a red dot I have a Go Daddy account that is both green and Red - I cant even take them all "offline" and put them back "online" because according the status in the Mail Application the accounts are "online" but according to the preferences>accounts>outgoing mail sever they are all "offline". very confusing especially considering They work fine one night the next morning all this. I will try your advice I was nervous I would loose everything if i deleted the account but I am realizing now that shouldn't happen. Thanks again for your help.

Why does Safari become unresponsive when more than 20 windows are open

It is extremely annoying to wait for the beachball for minutes on end after a certain number of windows( 15 to 25) are open. You can't open a new one , you can't close old ones, you can't scroll, you can't use the back arrow, you can't bookmark.
I have tried iFreeMem to clear memeory, Empty cache, Clear History, keeping desktop clear of icons, nothing works.
Mi compadres in the Photoshop Forum believe it is a file swap issue and the disk is being accessed repeatedly, but I don't think so. Fire Fox does the same thing but allows more windows to be open.
I don't have any unresponsive or slow issues with anything else. Safari has always done this since at least 10.4

It's not that I'm unfamiliar with tabbed browsing, I use it three times a day in Firefox for work purposes. Firefox has a less awkward tabbing scheme, for one thing.
I't just that I never thought there would be a problem following links and leaving the previous windows open.
Moving 25 gigs of files off my hard disk showed a temporary improvement in the number of windows I could have open in both FF and Safari, but it seems to have reverted to about 20 in S and 40 in FF. This , I thought, indicated that it was indeed a swap file slowdown, but now I don't think so. The next time I start linking, I'll use Open in Tab and see what happens. Not tonight, too tired.

Why does my MBP 2011 take more than 90 seconds to boot and be usable

The boot time from press start to when I can use my MAC is excruciating, at least 90 seconds.
I have REPAIRED DISK PERMISSIONS AFTER EACH UPDATE OF SOFTWARE,
I have created a Guest Account and the 'start/to use time is 1/3.
I have NO 3rd party software, all Apple,
My iPhono Library is only? 10.5G
I have reset the SMC-Shift/Control/Option-hold- start
Once the Mac is up and running it seems to run ok with Safari, Mail running, but add to that NUMBERS or Garage Band 10, (fagedabowdit),
so, short of more patience, or RAM, any suggestions on this LOOOOOOOONG boot time?

Ok, I'm gonna re-read this Transferring files from one User Account to another coupla times. Trying to see how I can see both accounts/homes at the same time.
Is this the home folder items on the right I copy and paste into the new HOME on the newly created Admin Account (using a different name)? So I select the the 10 folders, select copy and I assume all content is copied as well and then paste that into.....ok, I'll bug off and read and re-read and then decide to try--or not.

Why does printing a pdf take more than one hour?

Printing a single page from a pdf document (simple text) takes well over one hour. Surely, this can't be normal. Is this a known bug or is something wrong with my setup? Is there a solution/workaround?
Mac OS X 10.7.3, Canon MP550 printer.

With the Advanced setting window displayed you will see the setting "Print as Image". Having this enabled can dramatically increase the file size of the document to be printed.

Why does mtab show /dev/root rather than the partition mounted on /

Sorry if I have missed something I should have read, but can anybody explain please why my mtab no longer contains a reference to the actual partition which is mounted as root. I have:
/dev/root / ext3 rw,relatime,errors=continue,data=writeback
but no reference to the partition.

The first time one uses sudo this message appears:

value to "always".

My /etc/sudoers was pretty empty, so I really needed to read the f. manual
Who doesn't want to do that, just add
Defaults lecture = always
under the "# Defaults specification" line of the file. No garantuees however. If you're editing the file in a productive enviroment, make sure to use the visudo editor.

Does iCloud save my data more than once when i back it up?

I only have about 75 contacts and 165 pictures, which is the only thing I have on iCloud and the only thing I want to have saved. My iCloud keeps telling me that my storage is full but theres barley anything in it? It's a 5GB but still it shouldn't be full and I can't find my photos on iCloud

Apple states that it keeps up to 3 backups. Your camera roll photos are stored in your backup, but can't be viewed unless you restore the backup to your phone. You may have other data taking up the space in your account, such as email, app data, the data you sync with your iCloud account (contacts, calendars, reminders, notes, etc.), etc.

Why would aperture load more than once?

I understand that when I first load my RAW photos into Aperture it needs to generate a preview and so that's why it slows down and shows me "loading...". If I want to bypass this I can use quick preview mode. That's how I understood it so far. But I don't understand why it would need to load again at a later time? If I browse elsewhere and come back to this project, it'll start loading again. Does Aperture for some reason deletes the preview?

1) How do I force aperture to generate preview for everything, and not one by one. I'd rather go away and let the computer do its thing for a while than get disturbed every time I hop to the next photo.
You can select all images in the Browser and use the command "Photos > Update/Generate Previews" (Update will turn into "Generate", if hold down the ⌥ alt/options key). This way you can generate the previews over night.
2) Also this still doesn't explain why it needs to be done more than once? Why would it generate the preview again if I haven't changed any adjustments etc?
It will only keep and store the preview permanently, if you have enabled the sharing of previews in the "Preferences > Preview" tab. If you do not enable this, Aperture will not store the previews, to save space.

A possible cause is security software (firewall,anti-virus) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

Why does message show as sent when the user is offline??
After merging my Facebook and msn, I've been told by my Skype contacts, that whenever I'm offline, and they message me, it shows that I got the message. Just like I'm online.
This is also happening to my other friends who have merged their accounts ;(....!!!!
Please help, please! ;(...!!! I'm not hacked, I know, but it's happening even with other people who have merged the ACC....

If you want to work with Mac OS X, you need one computer per simultaneous user.
What you are describing, " Multiple simultaneous logins to a single computer" is not avialable on a regular Mac of any description, unless you decide to use Unix tools instead of Mac OS X.
Server will happily store files for many, many users and provide them to multiple (up to hundreds) of computers at "near hard Drive" speeds over Gigabit Ethernet. It can make the File Sharing part easy.
