Why does it take 4 or 5 minutes for new mail to show up after I open Thunderbird?

When I initially open my Thunderbird mail program, no new mail appears until the program has been open for 4 or 5 minutes. My computer at work shows new email almost immediately after opening the program. I wish I could figure out what the difference is. I formerly used Outlook Express (with XP) before I got this new computer with Windows 7. Same computer and os at work. I would appreciate any help you could give me with this issue.

Why does it take two or three minutes for my screens to load?

Starting a couple of weeks ago when I click on a new link it can take two or three minutes to load the page. It will eventually load the page but the lag is ridiculous. I also noticed that as soon as I close the page that isn't opening I do see that page for a second or two before it reverts back to the original page, and when I click on the same link again, it takes me there immediately.

Why does iMessage take longer to send messages for certain conversations?

iMessage can take around 15-20 minutes to send messages to certain conversations, but is extremely fast for others (I've noticed that it's generally faster for relatively newer conversations) off of my phone (iPhone 4S running iOS 8). iMessages for the same conversations send infinitely faster off of my macbook pro.
It shouldn't be a wifi/data/network issue because messages sent for different conversations off of the same network take different times to send.

I would delete the contact and then have the other person(s) send you a Mesage and then readd them as a contact.

Why can't my iphone play another ringtone for new mail? It is still stuck on the previous ringtone

I changed the "new mail" sound to a different ringtone and it clearly shows the new option but whenever i get a new mail it still plays the ringtone that I previously had. Why wont the new sound play?

well i have set fire fox to open my start page, but after opening my fire fox browser, it takes any where from 10 15 and some 20 minutes to open my start page, and some times it will open after that time then open and close again then finally open. With either Adobe Reader locally or the plug-in on a website, it takes a huge amount of time for a url called by a hyperlink in a pdf document to appear in a browser window. Can anyone explain why this happens and, hopefully, how to fix it?

Yes, sorry about that. I am using Win XP Pro and Adobe Reader 11.0.08 and plug-in 11.0.07.79. The browser is Firefox 35.0.01. The problem goes away if I disable the Adobe plug-in and use the native Firefox pdf handler. The same problem also occurs in Safari for Windows.
During the delay between clicking the hyperlink and the target url's being displayed, the "not responding" error appears for the browser in question.
This happens on both my desktop machine and my portable (also running WinXP; the Adobe plug-in is 11.0.8.4)

I have my setting to not auto download because of my limited satellite IP. But when I go to check the App store for updates it just sits there spinning apparently using up my download allowance. I am beginning to think Apples don't belong on Satellites.

I have machines on both platforms and am well aware of amount of updates. What I was wondering about is an issue I have when trying to check for updates, the length of time it takes to connect with the update server. I realize though it may be a "satellite" problem not experienced by DSL users.
But I am surprised that Apple doesn't provide an "inhouse" download scheduler given the size of many of their downloads (considerably larger than the average MS download)

A lot of programs say they will be on demand the following day. This isn't true. Seems you have to wait a week or longer for shows to post. Why? Comcast would usually be by 4:00 PM the following day. When you miss something and want to catch up on it you have to wait, and then the next show is already being shown by the station. It's a pain. I know I can get a DVR but that costs more $$$. If you advertise your VOD to be current then be current.

And did you purchase it online or from a reseller? Is it an EDU i.e. Student and Teacher edition software that you bought?
If it's a retail purchase online from Adobe site then as soon as the Order is processed you will get a link to download alongwith the serial number to your email.The same will be reflected in yor Adobe account.
Upon entering the serial number the software activates immediately.
The same holds for a boxed product if bought from a reseller. The serial number is located at the back of the case which you can use to activate the software.
In case of the EDU version software, the serial number is provided upon successful validation of the uploaded Proof of Eligibility documents and this process might take 24 to 48 hours to process.

Why did they take away the playlist feature for movies and tv shows?

The subject line pretty much sums it up but does anyone know why they took it away? It was seriously the greatest thing ever with my kid's tv shows. I could just turn on the playlist and they could watch a few episodes back to back without having to mess with the remote.

I don't think they have.
A recent software update may have reset your Settings which by default is playlists only for music.
Check AppleTV Setting menus and enable playlists for all not just music.
Let me know if you can't find the setting in the menu.

Why does my iPhone SOMETIMES not sound alert for new Messages?

Sometimes the iPhone (7.1) will peep with whatever sound is selected and sometimes not. I expect there's some pattern to this, maybe even a setting but I've not been able to dope that out. The two iPhones in my family both behave similarly, so I don't think it's a hardware or software error.
At first, I thought no-peeping happened when Messages was open on the screen, but then I caught it peeping like that. Now I'm puzzled - can anyone clue me in on what rule/algorithm/controls are for this?

Go to Settings>Notifications>Messages>Repeat Alerts
Change this to "Never" and it might help. If not, then you may have the same alert sound you use for messages for another app such as Mail, meaning whenever you were to get mail, it would make the sound, yet no notification pops up due to your default settings. This is the most likely possibility.
