Why does it take 7-42 minutes for Firefox 4 to open once I click the icon? (I have timed it, yes.)

I'm writing this on ie, which I HATE, because since I installed F4, it will not start up in a reasonable time. I did all the basic troubleshooting, uninstalled and re-installed it, checked the options, etc but nothing works. Everything elso on my computer works instantly, except F4. What's up with that and am I going to have to go back to using the hated ie all the time?

It sounds to me like the installation didn't perform correctly.
What I suggest you do is to go to Add/Remove Programs and uninstall it, but don't checkmark the option to remove your bookmarks, customizations etc.
Before you do that though, go to [http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/fx/?ref=logo Download Firefox 4.0] and download a fresh installation file.
After you uninstall the existing installation, reboot.
It's also wise to disable your AV before installing again. If you've got AVG, this is particularly difficult because it doesn't have an Exit option. Instead, you have to open MSCONFIG and remove the checkmark from '''AVG Watchdog '''which disables everything. Any changes to MSCONFIG requires a reboot I regret to say.

    1) When many tabs are opened in multiple rows (say 50 or 100) it may take an enternity for them to close after I click the appropriate command
    2)MOre often than not, it takes the browser too long to appear (open) after I initiat it by clicking the desktop or start menu icon.

    Best regards, Dmitry.

    Sorry about the bookmarks misread, I installed a Multi-Row Tab style, not for me but it in use deleted 126 of 130 tabs in about 3 seconds and then the last 4, no idea why that happens with the with the multi-row style.
    Did those 100 pages have web forms in them that you filled in an Firefox may be saving data along with the session.
    Here is a test page that you can quickly load up to 120 tabs at a time with an extension such as "Linky". See it if it takes an eternity to close them with the Multi Row tabs extension you are using, then try the same with the extension disabled. Works fast for me all tabs are on one row.

  • Why does it take a few minutes for gmail emails to be forwarded to my icloud account on my Mac Book?

    Suddenly, my gmail emails which have always been set to automatically forward to my icloud account on my, laptop (especially slow now), and iPad, are now taking several minutes for them to forward.
    Why is this?
    I did recently update to Yosemite. Could this be why? I have never had this issue.
    Thanks!

    Just to rule out Gmail, I have been having the exact same issue from a private-domain email account.  Like you, I recently upgraded to Yosemite and I'd say the timeframe roughly corresponds to that. I've seen delays of as much as three or four hours, in fact.  Crazy.

  • Why does it take over ten minutes for email to get through for my request for a signature

    Why isn't this program faster? It's been over 20 minutes emailing a test form, to myself, to see how quick this is? Is this normal? Not what I was looking for in a software program

    Have you tried to eliminate everything extraneous. In other words, do you experience the same delays with a simple Java program (no lookups, JNDI) that loads the drivermanager and creates a connection.
    Do you have access to a traciong JVM or some program that captures run-time execution timing information? Even without the source, this will tell you the specific class::methos where time is spent so you can better determine where the delay is ocurring.

  • Firefox will suddenly not open when I click the icon, even though I have used Firefox on this computer for several months with no issues.

    I have always used Firefox with no problems but suddenly the window will not even open when I click the Firefox icon. No error windows appear either.

    Hi pkuhne-
    I am not sure why your Firefox stopped working all of a sudden. I would recommend uninstalling and then re-installing Firefox.
    1) Get new download: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/
    2) Uninstall your current Firefox version.
    3) Do not remove personal data when you uninstall the current version.
    Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
    4) It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
    Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.
    Hope that helps

  • Why does it take over 2 minutes to get a database connection from the DataSource?

    Hello,
    It is taking over 2 minutes for my application to get a connection from a registered DataSource in iAS 6.0 sp4 on Solaris. The proper results are returned it just takes 2 minutes to establish the connection. The DataSource is an Oracle 9i database. I have the 9i drivers in the classpath. I also have a registered datasource that is an Oracle 8 database and have no problems establishing a connection quickly to that database. As an aside I have setup this application on JBOSS and both datasource's return a connection very quickly. If anyone has any ideas about what might be going on please respond. This issue is holding up a production release.
    Here is the code:
    try {
    log.debug("getting a new initial context");
    ctx = new InitialContext();
    ds = (DataSource) ctx.lookup(bundle.getString("IW_DATASOURCE"));
    log.debug("after looking up datasource from initial context");
    } catch (NamingException e) {

    throw new FinstarException
    (bundle.getString("E-0001"));
    try {
    log.debug("about to get connection");
    conn = ds.getConnection();
    log.debug("after getting connection");
    Produces this in the logs:

  • Why does iMovie take almost 10 minutes to launch?

    I have a 2.8ghz iMac with 4G of RAM, no projects loaded, yet iMovie launches VERY slow. The spinning beachball rotates for almost ten minutes before I finally can use the program. Tried to reinstall to no avail.
    Does anyone have a recommendation?

  • Why does it take so much longer for applications to launch under lion as compared to snow leopard

    I have two iMacs one which cannot run Lion and one which does.
    Launching applicaitons under Lion takes a measurable amount of time longer to launch under Lion than they do under Snow Leopard.
    The Lion machine is newer, faster and larger than the Snow Leopard machine - 4 cores vs 2, however, every time I launch an application, such as Safari or Text Exit as two examples, the Lion machine just cranks and cranks (you can listen to the disk drive).
    Text edit is particularly rediculous. If I try to open a text file, either for the first time or one which has been opened by text edit before, I am greeted with the sound of the disk drive and the spinning beach ball.
    All hardware diagnostic tests pass with flying colors. Or so it appears as no errors or abnormalities are reported.
    This effect has been in place since the lion machine arrived (which was "factory installed" with Snow Leopard and then upgraded over the net to Lion).

    That is not normal, but what is going on is hard to say without some testing.  It could be cache-related, if you've gotten some corruption in some important caches.  Try getting a copy of OnyX and clearing caches.  (Note that cache clearing should be considered a troubleshooting step only...  don't use such utilities for routine maintenance.)
    You could also have a dying hard drive.  That would not necessarily show up on hardware tests.  Sometimes drive failures show up in advance in hardware tests or SMART status checks, and sometimes they don't.  That could explain the excessive hard drive thrashing.  If this is the problem, there may not be any reasonable solution until the drive finally goes kaput, or decides to change to a detectable imminent failure.
    There could also be any number of other problems, such as low RAM, hard drive directory corruption, incompatible third-party software, etc.  Try some of the techniques in the Mac OS X Speed FAQ.

  • HT5312 why does it take a billion years for apple to send rescue email????

    I dont buy a lot of apps in the itunes store, but when I do I usually get the same ol login in 3-4 times and then the obscure when was the last time you took a breath or what was your grandmas neighbors maden name security questions..  I dont know the answers when I give them originally so remembering them is tough,  so I have to reset my them by requesting they send me an email  with instruction for reseting    but I never get the email   2 hours i wait ... Samsung has my business now...gooogle play is a cake walk compared to apple

    Usually a non-delivery report is sent by your mail service provider.
    Some will alert you to a problem after 2 or 4 hours and indicate they will keep trying.
    Others may discover the issue immediately because the receiving server refuses the message right away.
    But not finding out the address is invalid for a week is ridiculous. Does this only happen with the one client's email server? It may be misconfigured in some way.

  • Why does it take so long to clear a task (with DMA transfer) using the PXI bus?

    I am migrating a system which used to use a PCI-6133 (8 channel simultaneous AI) and PCI-6733 (8 channel AO) to one that uses a PXI-6133 and PXI-6733 mounted in a PXI-1033 chassis.
    In general, things seem to work (synchronized AI/AO running near the maximum rate on both devices), with the one exception that clearing an AO task on the PXI-6733 takes forever (on the order of 20-30 seconds).
    Even when I try the sinewave generation for the PXI-6733 in the MAX test panel it takes the same amount of time to stop the task. If I switch to using interrupts as the transfer mechanism, it stops immediately.
    I tried using the interrupt transfer mechanism on my more demanding set of synchronized tasks, but that does not produce the right behavior (even though it does not give any errors).
    Is there any trick (or better diagnostic) to help get my tasks working with DMA under PXI that used to work fine on PCI?
    Thanks in advance!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi Patrick,
    I'm using a PCIe-8361 controller. The computer is a Dell T5500 workstation running Windows 7 x64. I see the problem every single time I try to clear a task running on the PXI-6733, including my example using the Measurement & Automation test panel (from the very first time I try the Sinewave Generation onward). I can try other parameters in the test panel, but I don't need to adjust anything from the defaults (e.g., Rate = 1000) to get the behavior. I will also try installing the PXI chassis in a few other computers we have here just to confirm that it's not computer specific. From your line of questions I can at least gather that there's nothing obvious (like a known bug with the PXI-6733) and that I should expect this configuration to work.
    Thanks for your help and I'll post any other findings I obtain.

  • Why does it take numerous times to get firefox to work on my computer

    When I start my computer and I click on firefox sometimes it will not appear or takes ages and sometimes I have to reboot the computer. I can click on Google chrome no problem and very quickly. This seemed to be a problem after using homealot program on your site.
    I clear cookies and tempory files on a daily basis. How do I get rid of this homealot program or do you have any other suggestions. Its very frustrating.

    This is probably not a problem with the iPad, but with the wi-fi. If your internet connection and/or wi-fi speeds are slow, then loading web pages will be slow. If I was you, I would research different kinds of wireless routers to find the fastest one in your price range, and also research different kinds of modems.

    Hello Howard.
    It's possible that you are having a problem with some Firefox add-on that is hindering your Firefox's normal behavior. Have you tried disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal?
    Whenever you have a problem with Firefox, whatever it is, you should make sure it's not caused by one (or more than one) of your installed add-ons, be it an extension, a theme or a plugin. To do that easily and cleanly, run Firefox in [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode safe mode] (don't forget to select ''Disable all add-ons'' when you start safe mode). If the problem disappears, you know it's from an add-on. Disable them all in normal mode, and enable them one at a time until you find the source of the problem. See [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting+extensions+and+themes this article] for information about troubleshooting extensions and themes and [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting+plugins this one] for plugins.
    If you need support for one of your add-ons, you'll have to contact its author.
    If the problem is not disappears when all add-ons are disabled, please tell me, so we can work from there.
