  • Why Does idvd take my 26.2gb imovie file and compress it so small?

Please help. I've created a 17+ minute long imovie file that is 26.2gb. When I view the file information in idvd it says that it's only 0.6gb.
I've already burned a test copy and it looked way too compressed. Like a bad jpg file. From idvd, I burned 'best quality' to a disc image and toasted it. I know that idvd decides who to do the compression in some complex way, but is there another method to not have so much compression?
    Thanks...

    Robert,
DV (as normally exported from iMovie to iDVD) runs
about 13 GB per hour. You say your content is 17
minutes and 26.GB - what CODEC did you use?
DVDs are in MPG-2 compressed format. In Best Quality
mode iDVD will take 120 minutes of DV content and
compress it to about 4 GB. So 17 minutes of content
    could be about .6 GB.

Thanks for your reply. I didn't pick a codec. I just clicked create idvd from imovie and it did it for me. I've made at least 10 other dvds and haven't seen this much loss of quality before. I'm just not sure why...
0.6 was project size and I guess your math is right, but I've very disappointed with quality.
    Thanks,
    Bob

  • Why does it take so long to download movies and tv shows from itunes

I can download songs pretty quickly from itunes, but movies and tv shows take anywhere from 12-24 hours.  Is there anything I can do to speed this up?

If you are downloading at work more than likely your bandwith is being throttled by your company.  If your using a Mac, download a little utility called "MenuMeter" It runs in the menu bar and will display your connection speed. If your on a windows machine similar utilities are available as well. Once you find out what your speed is.it'll be much easier to trouble shoot!

  • Why does it take 4 or 5 minutes for new mail to show up after I open Thunderbird?

When I initially open my Thunderbird mail program, no new mail appears until the program has been open for 4 or 5 minutes. My computer at work shows new email almost immediately after opening the program. I wish I could figure out what the difference is. I formerly used Outlook Express (with XP) before I got this new computer with Windows 7. Same computer and os at work. I would appreciate any help you could give me with this issue.
    Thanks!

Different anti virus at work? Different Thunderbird versions?

  • Why does my site look different in chrome, safari and explorer?

    Hi,
My site looks ok in Firefox but it looks different in  chrome, safari and explorer...
I have already tried to clean the cache and delete cookies, what I have to do?
    Thanks for helping!
    Livia

    Hi Livia
I have checked the file and can see that you have used a slideshow for browser background , the page fill is the hero image where the thumbnails are disabled.
If you remove the slideshow then the issue is resolved as the red bar in top and white bar at bottom comes fine with all browsers.
Please remove the slideshow from page background and use the same image as browser fill which will fix the issue.
    Thanks,
    Sanjit

  • On my mac why does it take so long to send a Email with an attachment, on my mac why does it take so lone to send a Email with an attachment

on my mac why does it take so long to send a Email with an attachment, on my mac why does it take so lone to send a Email with an attachment

It depends on the size of the attachment and the speed of your internet connection.
Next time you send an email with an attachment do these two things:
In Apple Mail (I assume you are using Apple Mail), under the Window menu select Activity. Arrange the Activity window so you can see it.
Then open the separate application located in the Utilities folder called "Activity Monitor" and arrange it so you can see it at the same time as the Activity window in Mail.
In Activity Monitor program, select the tab labeled "Network." Watch the "Data sent/sec" portion. Then send your email, while watching the Mail Activity window and also the Activity Monitor program window Data sent/sec area.
You should see the mail being sent with a progress bar in the Mail Activity window and also you should be able to see how many bytes/sec or KB/sec or MB/sec your internet connection is giving you in the Activity Monitor window.
Example: my internet provider gives me about 20 Megabits per second download and 5 Megabits per second upload. To convert these to Megabytes per second (Activity Monitor shows things in bytes, not bits), simply divide by 10 (not the exact thing to do, but close enough). So I get 0.5 Megabytes per second upload speed. When I send a file that is 5 Megabytes in size, it takes about 10 seconds if I am getting the full upload bandwidth. If I am getting less than that (which sometimes happens), it will take proportionately more time. Either way, you can see what is happening with these two windows.
If your internet provider is supposed to give you, say, 5 Megabits/sec upload (0.5 Megabytes/sec), but you see only say, 5 KB/sec (=0.005 Megabytes/sec), sent in Activity Monitor, then your emails are taking a long time because you are getting only abut 1/100 the speed you should be. You might want to check with your internet provider about that.

  • Why does it take 3 hours to download a movie

Why does it take 3 hours to download a movie on apple tv?  Is there a solution??

What kind of internet connection speed do you have?
If you have 3Mbps DSL like I do, and are renting movies on either Apple TV model in HD Format, then it will take quite a while. Actually 3 Hours for an HD Movie would be failry fast here at my home. They are just large files. If I'm going to rent an HD movie, I will usually rent it earlier in the day and watch it when I'm ready.
If you have an adequate internet connection, and just want to rent movies on the fly and don't care about HD, on the AppleTV v2 you can go to Settings / General / iTunes Store / Video Resolution... and select Standard Definition. With our 3Mbps DSL connection, when we rent a movie it is generally "Ready to Play..." within about 2 minutes at the most (enough time to grab a beer and get comfortable)
As far as I know, Standard Definition movies still show on the same menu as the HD version with the ATV v1. I preferred that menu format myself because you didn't have to change the option in settings when you wanted to go back and forth.

  • What is "Other" and why does it take up so much space?

What is "Other" and why does it take up so much space?

What is the Other on my iPhone and How to Remove It
An "other" larger than about 1 1/2 GB usually indicates that the "other" includes corrupted files.
    First try:
"First you go settings/general/usage/music/then left swipe over music and press delete and you would think it deletes your music but it doesn't instead it deletes your other but make sure your ipod is connected to a computer while doing this"
    as recommended by:
How do I get rid of "other" storage: Apple Support Communities
Next, usually restoring from backup eliminated the corrupted files. However, sometimes restoring to factory settings/new iPod is required.
    To restore from backup see:

  • Why does it take over two hours to download a movie on Apply tv

Why does it take over two hours to download a  movie on Apple TV
    Thanks

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
The first thing to check would be your internet download speed, you can do this at www.speedtest.net.
1080p HD movies require a recommended speed of 8 Mbps, 720p HD movies require a recommended speed of 6 Mbps, while SD movies require a recommended speed of 2.5 Mbps.
Netflix uses adaptive streaming and can reduce quality right down to produce a stream as low as 0.5 Mbps.

  • Why does it take 30 seconds to fall in sleep modus?

why does it take 30 seconds to fall in sleep modus?
Some time ago it took just a few seconds.

I have the same problem.  It always takes about 30 seconds for my Mac Pro to fall asleep and it's driving me crazy.
I've got a Mac Pro early 2009 4.1.  I've reinstalled the OS twice, disabled all startup items, uninstalled the Logitech Control Center, and unplugged all USBs.  Only running keyboard and apple Mighty Mouse on bluetooth.
I've also disabled hibernate mode, and removed the sleep image from the boot disk.
On a pmset log, every thirty seconds the "com.apple.diskmanagementd" program creates a "PreventIdleUserSleep", then thirty seconds later it creates a "ReleasedIdleUserSleep".  This repeats itself continuously while it's sleeping.
I've tried killing the process in Activity Monitor and it just starts up again 30 seconds or so later.
What could be causing this, and how can I stop it?

  • I just recently upgraded to Mavericks.  Why does it take awhile to load messages in mail after I click to open them?

I just recently upgraded to Mavericks.  Why does it take awhile to load messages after I click to open them?

I should have put more info with my question. Anyway, I regularly use Seamonkey with its built-in mail client because it works so well. I also can use the Yahoo site's mail feature and the mail also goes out instantly once I click on the send button. Only Mail takes up to 32 seconds to send out a mail. I watch the spinning wheel churn until the whoosh sound comes. Not acceptable, that is why I use Seamonkey. Another iMac in the house shows the same low level of performance sending out the mail from that computer, and that computer uses the ultra-fast Comcast internet while my computer uses the AT&T land line. I tried changing some of the settings, like changing the port numbers to no avail. I returned to the recommended AT&T port setting. Since I have never been able to get Mail to work the way I want it, I switched to Seamonkey, but have always been curious as to why it wants to take so long. I like Safari as the browser a little better, but will use Seamonkey because it has it all and works the way it should. Unless a cure for that elongated wait with the outgoing mail is found, I will have to stay with Seamonkey.
