Why does it take me so long time to migrate from my old Mac

Why does it take me so long time to migrate from my old Mac?
I just bought a new MacBook Air and using an ethernet cable to migrate all material from my old MacBook Pro, it has now taken med 4 days
and still not done? What am I doing wrong?

Thanks for that gbrenik.
Don't really wanna start reloading all of Lion, but read somewhere that I should start the migration by restarting my source Mac by holding down T during startup, that would do the trick. Is this what I  have done wrong?

  • Why does it take a very long time for shows to post to VOD?

A lot of programs say they will be on demand the following day. This isn't true. Seems you have to wait a week or longer for shows to post. Why? Comcast would usually be by 4:00 PM the following day. When you miss something and want to catch up on it you  have to wait, and then the next show is already being shown by the station. It's a pain. I know I can get a DVR but that costs more $$$. If you advertise your VOD to be current then be current.

Since the Verizon Forums are for users to help other users, I doubt you will get any definitive answer. We customers simply do not have access to any information on how Verizon handles VOD.

Yes. You are only Copying the Data not moving it.

  • Why is it taking a very long time to migrate files files macbook to iMac?

It is taking a very long time to migrate files from a macbook to a new iMac (24 hours). Is this normal for around 40GB of data?

  • Every time I upgrade to a newer version from 3.6 it takes Firefox a long time to start from my desk top, why?

The newer versions such as 4.0 and 5.0 run fine AFTER they launch, but they take a long time to launch when I click on the icon on my desktop. All other browsers including Firefox 3.6 launch immediately, I have had my PC checked it is not the problem. Is there a patch that I need to download?

The iPhoto version that is currently available at the App Store os 9.5.1 and requires the Mavericks OS X.  The early 2008 24" iMac can run Mavericks.  Once you have Mavericks installed (it's free)  you can purchase iPhoto 9.5.1 from the App Store.
If you don't want to upgrade to Mavericks you can purchase a copy of the iLife 11 disk from a 3rd party retailer like Amazon.com and install iPhoto 9.  Then up trade it to 9.4.3 via the updaters at the  Apple Downloads website: Apple - Support - Search

  • Why does TestStand take so much longer to load a Vi from a LabVIEW prject than calling directly?

I have done some tests where the same VI loaded from a LabVIEW project takes much much longer to load in TestStand vs calling the VI directly. The project file I'm using is large, and am guessing it tries to load all the files in the project into memory?? Any ideas on how to fix this? I would like to continue calling VI's using projects in TS but the load time can be ridiculous. Thanks

  • Why does it take so much longer for applications to launch under lion as compared to snow leopard

I have two iMacs one which cannot run Lion and one which does.
Launching applicaitons under Lion takes a measurable amount of time longer to launch under Lion than they do under Snow Leopard.
The Lion machine is newer, faster and larger than the Snow Leopard machine - 4 cores vs 2, however, every time I launch an application, such as Safari or Text Exit as two examples, the Lion machine just cranks and cranks (you can listen to the disk drive).
Text edit is particularly rediculous. If I try to open a text file, either for the first time or one which has been opened by text edit before, I am greeted with the sound of the disk drive and the spinning beach ball.
All hardware diagnostic tests pass with flying colors. Or so it appears as no errors or abnormalities are reported.
This effect has been in place since the lion machine arrived (which was "factory installed" with Snow Leopard and then upgraded over the net to Lion).

That is not normal, but what is going on is hard to say without some testing.  It could be cache-related, if you've gotten some corruption in some important caches.  Try getting a copy of OnyX and clearing caches.  (Note that cache clearing should be considered a troubleshooting step only...  don't use such utilities for routine maintenance.)
You could also have a dying hard drive.  That would not necessarily show up on hardware tests.  Sometimes drive failures show up in advance in hardware tests or SMART status checks, and sometimes they don't.  That could explain the excessive hard drive thrashing.  If this is the problem, there may not be any reasonable solution until the drive finally goes kaput, or decides to change to a detectable imminent failure.
There could also be any number of other problems, such as low RAM, hard drive directory corruption, incompatible third-party software, etc.  Try some of the techniques in the Mac OS X Speed FAQ.

  • Why does exporting take so much longer than in FCP7?

With the same computer configuration I am getting three times the rendering time with I go to either the projectings settings defualt or h.264. Nothing had been background rendered but it was never in FCP7 either. It seems like any text or other overlayed graphics are really slowing this process down. Thoughts?

  • Why does it take 3 goes to open my browser from my desk top?

It takes me 3 attempts to open my browser from my desktop icon. 3 lots of double clicks before Firefox will open. Things changed about a week ago. All was well before then. What has happened?

I would have thought if you select a program to come to the forefront it is
"active"and ready to use?  Is this an issue or am I doing something wrong?
    Thanks
Tried this on my setting but after having clicked on the icon the Bridge
window is present, ready and active. No need for an click here.
Have you already tried system maintenance for OS using Apple Disk utility to
    check and repair permissions?

  • Why does it take hours to download a rented movie from iTunes.

When I rent a movie or TV show from iTunes with my AppleTV (2), the download starts and I get a message saying the download will take an an hour and 45 minutes to download.  Then when the download it complete and I start to play it, I get a message saying downloading - and the rental never starts.
My AppleTV (2) it running the latest version, and it's plugged directly into my router via ethernet.  I have reset the Apple TV, router and modem.
Netflix  and YouTube streaming through AppleTV are immediate and seem to work fine.

What is your actual internet speed? use www.speedtest.net and post the results.
A sustained 6 Mbit/s or faster Internet connection is recommended for viewing High Definition movies and TV shows, and a sustained 2.5 Mbit/s or faster Internet connection is recommended for Standard Definition content. Internet connection speeds may vary depending on your ISP and other factors.
Using Netflix or Youtuve is not a good test as Youtube is must lower quality than HD rentals, and Netflix uses a variable quality download system that reduces quality based on your internet speed.

This is not the place to make a point. This is a user to user support forum. I do not need instructions about the use and care or alleged failure of cables. At no time did I ever say or imply that you were an idiot, that is your statement and words, not mine. Take the time to Google and you will find instances where there have been injuries and death dealing with 3rd party cables and chargers. The abilities that Apple has for manufacturing and what business decisions they make in creating their products is nothing more than speculation, and that is not allowed under the terms of the forum that you agreed on when you joined here. • After installing Lion my time machine using a Time capsule backups take a very long time, particularly indexing the back up, does any one know why and a fix?

I have installed Lion over Snow Leopard and noticed a marked increase in the time it takes my time capsule/time machine to back up.  It seems to spend a very long time indexing the back up.  Does any one know why and more importantly is there a "fix"?

The first index with Lion takes a very long time.  Could take over 10 hours.  You just have to wait.  You can see the progress by opening Console and entering backupd in the search box

  • Why does it take a long time to back up my iPhone?

My iPhone is taking forever to backup. Whenever I pluf it in and it starts to back up it seems to stay on the screen in my iTunes and the bar doesn't move at all. I need help. What should I do?

Extraordinary long backups are caused by an error when an app (or apps) was installed or updated, particularly if you have ever installed or updated using the App Store on the device itself rather than iTunes. Even if you were never aware that there was a problem, they can arise and will cause problems with the backup process. Maybe you did have a problem during an update or install. Maybe the update stalled, or the App Store crashed. These issues are very likely what have been causing your long backups and you didn't even know it. During the backup process these errors cause it to drag and pause for a very long time before it gets moving again. From your view, you just see a normal backup that is taking hours, and undoubtedly annoying you to no end. On the inside, iTunes is trying desperately to get past a roadblock that it doesn't know where it came from.
